has unbounded authority to commit crimes. the judges also taking aim at the serious nature of the charges. trump faces, writing former president trump's alleged efforts to remain in power despite losing the 2020 election were, if proven, an unprecedented assault on the structure of our government. trump has until monday to appeal to the u.s. supreme court. if the high court declines the appeal. the judge overseeing the case could set a new trial date soon. but if the court decides to consider the matter, all bets are off. there could be lengthy delays. pierre thomas abc news, washington. >> pierre, thank you. another trump case is going before the supreme court tomorrow. the justices will hear arguments on whether trump can be kept off the ballot after colorado removed him under the so-called insurrection clause in the 14th amendment. >> there are new clues about what may have led to that mid-air blowout on an alaska airlines flight last month, a preliminary ntsb report says four bolts meant to hold the plane's door plug in place were

missing entirely. the agency says that's because the plane's fuselage arrived at boeing's factory in august with damaged rivets near the door plug to fix the issue. the door plug was open and bolts were removed. the report finds. those bolts were never put back. somehow, the plane made nearly 150 flights without incident. in a statement, boeing's ceo said the company, quote, must do better. >> an historic rainstorm has created dangerous conditions across southern california. rescuers lifted a child out of the fast moving water of a storm canal. two others were able to get themselves out safely and further south. border officials say a migrant drowned trying to cross into the u.s. through the tijuana river channel, about a foot of rain in los angeles has compromised hillsides, leading to nearly 500 mudslides. many that have damaged homes and vehicles and the erosion is putting several buildings near santa barbara, right at the edge of the pacific. so what's ahead? we get the forecast from accuweather's melissa constanza,
