an airportrillionunway, a bizarre sight on the beach in half moon bay. look at this. a small plane sitting there on its nose. the thing is, there's no one inside. good evening. i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. >> thanks for joining us. now, this all happened earlier this evening just south of poplar beach. that's a couple of miles north of the ritz carlton. if you know the area as abc seven news reporter lauren martinez found, it was quite a close call. >> all. >> authorities are investigating why a man stole this small plane and decided to take a joyride before landing on a half moon

bay beach. a witness said it flew right over her twice. >> the first buzz was so fast. it was a normal speed, and it flew right over my head, like 20ft over my head. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office said they received reports the small aircraft landed on the sand just south of poplar beach at five thursday evening. >> the plane is unoccupied. what else? >> i'm getting reports that the pilot took off on foot thanks to a witnesses description of the pilot. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office arrested the suspect within minutes. authorities say the suspect is 50 years old, from miami, florida. >> i've been doing this for almost 20 years, and this is a first for me. >> authorities say the pilot was able to steal the plane from the palo alto airport. and for unknown reasons, decided to land it on a beach in half moon bay. >> it was very unnerving because it's well below the flight deck. it's well below 500ft. you know. so that's what i thought. either

couple 49 ers, one big actually at tonight's awards. >> and larry is live in las vegas now where larry we saw 40 niners past and present share in some of the spotlight tonight. yeah it was a big night for the 40 niners. >> as you mentioned past and present. we'll start with running back christian mccaffrey. and former niners linebacker patrick willis. they both came away with trophies prestigious honors tonight. let's start with christian mccaffrey who led the league in rushing touchdowns. and he came striding out to the podium. also had rushing touchdowns as the number one stat for christian. led the niners. and set the single season touchdown record with 21. stanford man, he is the quintessential swiss army knife of the niners offense. >> i can't even put into words how much i love you guys. this has been the most fun i've ever had playing football. um, i'm not up here without you. football is the greatest game on the planet. it's the biggest team sport in the world. and we're so lucky to get to enjoy

to the food, drinks and music, there's also a good old fashioned wager down the line. reidy tells me he and the irish center have a bet with their counterpart in kansas city over who will bring home the winner's trophy if kansas city win on sunday, they'll send us some irish cream liqueurs and some coffee of course, if san francisco uh- don't win, we'll have to do something in return. >> maybe some buena vista cafe gift boxes and coffee as well. >> but the super bowl isn't the only thing people across san francisco are gearing up for. saturday marks the start of lunar new year celebrations at mark korean grocery store. sophia liu says she was getting some essentials for a gathering. she's hosting. >> i got stuff to make dumplings, so i got ground pork, shrimp dumpling wrappers, uh, shiitake mushrooms for my friends and i. >> it was a similar story in chinatown thursday night where streets were packed with people. currently, there are several establishments around san francisco getting ready for either the lunar new year or the super bowl. but some places, like the golden gate fortune

cookie factory are doing both. owner kevin chan says they've seen a big uptick in orders ahead of the holiday, driven in part thanks to it being the year of the dragon. >> it's the most important uh uh , zodiac in the calendar. the very first one, the stronger one, but also due to 40 niner mania, the excitement so high. >> chan says his company is even making special super bowl themed cookies. >> they're having a super bowl party, and they make their own message about both team and some funny messages in san francisco. >> tim johns abc seven news. all right, there are some traffic changes being put into place in san francisco on sunday night. >> the closures include some roads in the mission district as well as freeway off ramps similar to what happened. remember during the nfc championship game, some muni busses will also be rerouted in some areas of the city. now speaking up, here's how the muni fleet is prepping for the 40 niners. we spotted these busses around town earlier tonight sporting those special messages and getting into the spirit.

>> starting next week, alameda county will get help prosecuting suspects in violent crimes. governor newsom and attorney general rob bonta are sending state attorneys to help with criminal prosecution options. the focus will be on violent crimes, fentanyl dealing and property crimes like retail theft and auto burglary. the attorneys will be from the doj and the national guard, though it's to be determined and just how many are being assigned here, that's what we do when there are when the evidence and the data show what exists here in oakland, that there are spikes in crime much higher than other levels in the state of california. >> so we need to be responsive to it. we need to hold people accountable. accountable. we need to work together to deliver the results that the people of oakland and the east bay deserve, and they deserve their leaders working together and we're delivering that. the move comes as an effort to recall alameda district attorney pamela price continues. >> da price says she expects accepts extra help from the state, calling it consistent with the plan to bring more

california highway patrol officers into the county. >> new developments with the special counsel report that says president biden willfully retained classified documents from his time as vice president. the president is now defiantly responding to that report, addressing the details in a news conference at the white house this evening, abc news reporter zohreen shah has the latest, including the questions raised about biden's mental fitness. >> tonight, president biden, responding to a special counsel investigation that recommended no charges against the president after finding there was evidence that he willfully kept classified documents from his time as vice president. >> i've seen the headlines since the report was released about my willful retention of documents. this these assertion is not only misleading, they're just plain wrong. >> but the special counsel disagreeing, saying in the report that the president is a sympathetic well meaning elderly man with a poor memory. also, that it would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him by then, a former

president well into his 80s of a serious felony, thatrillionequires a mental state of willingness and stating that during biden's interview he could not remember the general time frame of his vice presidential terms, or when his son beau died. >> i know there's some attention paid to some language in the report about my recollection of events. there's even referenced that i don't remember when my son died, how in the hell dare he raise that? frankly, when i was asked a question, i thought to myself, wasn't any of their business. >> special counsel robert herr also writing the evidence does not establish mr. biden's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. the report did establish that biden kept sometimes top secret material pertaining to the military and foreign policy. they also said that biden kept handwritten notebooks that had information implicating sensitive intelligence sources and methods, some found inside his delaware home. next to ordinary items, which they deemed was considered junk. the

underground septic tank. the incident happened in a mobile home community in fontana, about 50 miles east of downtown l.a. the woman's one year old child reportedly saw the woman fall and her other children dialed 911. i mean, the baby's one years old and he was pointing, saying, mom because he knew that his mom was down there. >> that's very traumatizing. >> the san bernardino fire department initially thought the woman fell through a sinkhole, but after investigating, they say ground covering the old tank shifted during the recent storms, causing it to open. took firefighters an hour to pull the woman to safety using a rope attached to the back of a fire truck. aside from minor scrapes and injuries, the woman is expected to be okay. >> thank goodness. yes. all right. let's go back to las vegas and the show everyone is waiting for. not just the game. all eyes are on usher and her super bowl halftime performance. >> yeah. should be good. he says his big challenge has been squeezing his 30 year career into a 13 minute show. you know, there's been these fantasy lists that have been going out and

quarter mainly clear and breezy if you're fortunate enough to go. that's what it's looking like now. beautiful and decked out san francisco getting ready for the big game here at chase center thrive city. we are expecting bright start a dry evening for the viewing party that begins at 2 p.m. in the upper 50s, dropping down to the low 50s, so it should be good. and if you are viewing anywhere around the bay area, let's check out the forecast. so inland areas in the early afternoon it will be in the upper 50s and then by 7 p.m. dropping to the upper 40s. if you're going to be around the bay, ■maybe you've gt an outdoor venue that you're going to watch the super bowl with friends and family. 60 degrees temperature dropping off into the mid 50s, eventually to the low 50s. and around the coast. we're going from 56 to 50 degrees. it is going to be dry. it's going to be beautiful, a mix of sun and high clouds. here's why. high pressure is building in behind that system that soaked parts of the bay area. most of the bay area yesterday definitely brought

some snow to the sierra. even a few tornado were reported around parts of southern california. reservoir levels are doing great after all the storms. everyone in our major reservoirs shasta, oroville, trinity, new melones, above average. san luis is the only one that is running behind at 81% of historical average. let's talk about el nino because an advisory was issued today, warmer than average sea surface temperatures are continuing near the equatorial pacific. but climate prediction center is saying there's a 79% chance we transition to neutral this spring. and a 55% chance that we go to a la nina. and so this is going to happen in the summer is what they're saying historically, la nina is follow a strong el nino events. the other thing we're talking about is the chill 36 in danville right now, 41 in santa rosa. frost advisory going up for most inland areas until 9 a.m. tomorrow. temperatures as low as 33 degrees. protect your tender plants. here's a look at the headlines. overnight, cold and frosty. tomorrow through the
