date and i'm dan ashley, thanks for joining us. that breaking news is at uc berkeley. there was a shooting tonight near the student union and sproul plaza police blocked off the area of bancroft way and college avenue. >> abc seven news reporter tara campbell is at the scene. she's been speaking with students tara. yeah dan and ama. >> as you can see behind me at the student union here, most of the scene has cleared. plenty of students walking around now. cars are starting to pass by, but you can still see there is some police presence behind me. the first call for this incident coming in at around 840 tonight at first, when they got on bancroft on campus.
11:01 pm
now cell phone video you're looking at right here is taken from inside the student union, where you can see students running for safety. university officials have confirmed nine shots were fired outside the building before the shooter was apprehended. i spoke with one student who saw it take place. >> we happen to notice a bunch of cops drive by where we were so we came to check it out and we were standing by the student union and somebody was getting pinned to the floor. and then carried to the car. i was a little bit shocked that this all happened, like in the student building, like you hear of shots taking place around the surrounding area, but you never really see it happen in in the university's building. so i'm just wondering what the school is going to do about security measures. and video >> police taking a man into custody shortly after the incident. we have blurred his

face because it's unclear if he's been arrested, and it's also unclear what led up to the shooting. officials have only said there was an altercation on. now, one of the other things we're hearing from students is the campus wide alert didn't go out until about 30 minutes after this incident. again causing some concern for some students here. dan and ama >> all right, tara, thank you for that. >> now we'll have continuing coverage of this story on the abc seven news mobile app. when you download the app, be sure to enable push alert feature. so that we can keep you updated. and you'll receive updates. >> we have team coverage tonight as we count down to super bowl 58. chris alvarez is in las vegas and so is j.r. stone. >> that's right. and we'll start with j.r. at the airport where j.r, you found plenty of 40 niners fans flying into town today, ready for the weekend. and they certainly are ready. >> dan and ama, there's a certain energy you feel when you hear the chanting among fans. when you hear them singing. and we heard that today and it all
