for kickoff. good morning. it's super bowl sunday, february 11th, and lisa and i are hoping for a win. >> yeah that's right i mean it's our time i think. >> right it is about time. >> nearly 30 years right? right and we're going to have a winning forecast. so a few more high clouds today. and as we look at live doppler seven, you'll notice a ridge of high pressure allowing for mainly sunny skies. but notice they're going to see a few cloud patches throughout the day today. from a system to the north there that will stay to the north, but will be the recipients of some higher clouds, quarter mile visibility. santa rosa. we still are chilly in the heel in the hills of the santa clara region of the east bay, where temperatures are in the 30s. that's where we have a frost advisory. it is 37 right now in sonoma, 39 santa rosa and 24 hours ago we certainly were milder in the north bay. now we're colder this morning and a little milder out towards hayward and oakland. so we will keep the numbers around 40 in

the coldest spots. otherwise warming up through the 50s, upper 50s, mid 50s by noontime. partly cloudy skies, some low 60s around the bay and inland, and we'll talk about when the rain returns and it's coming back stephanie, in earnest. >> all right lisa, thank you so 80s across the bay area are getting into the super bowl spirit especially here in san francisco. numerous landmarks as you can see, are glowing and red and gold. abc seven news reporter anser hassan is in the east bay with the preparations for some watch parties. >> when the 40 niners beat the lions in the nfc championship game, retro junkies sports bar in walnut creek was packed. a co-owner, enrique monteiro feels sunday will be different. >> there is something different. i mean, after finally winning the championship game after three years and getting through, it's time to get some payback on the chiefs. that payback will be televised at their huge super bowl party. >> the big beer garden has been prepped with a 15 foot led screen, tents, surround sound and food. >> we got food trucks, uh-

barbecue, of course. we got all sorts of games, raffles, squares, stuff like that. we got a deejays before uh- during commercial breaks and after the game. hopefully we're celebrating my family, big niner fans grandfather sold. >> you know, seat cushions and programs at kaiser. um, so it's in my blood. >> mark trapani will keep the family tradition alive at rotator taproom bar, also in walnut creek. he says they're loyal. 40 niner fan base will pack the place. six tvs, food trucks. and of course, there will be games as cameras pass by. >> taylor swift everybody's got a dream. >> despite being raider territory, downtown oakland will be another hot spot for the 40 niners gang at fillmore social. nina joyner will be serving up a special super bowl cocktail and a viewing party. she's a vegas native and a raiders fan, so she has mixed feelings. the reason why i came out to the bay area is because of all the sports teams. >> it's bittersweet for me, but i'm really happy for city of san

better get here and be wearing red. melissa don, abc news, las vegas. >> we've compiled all our stories on the forty-niners run to the super bowl in a new streaming special, the road to las vegas. you can stream it on demand right now on our website or via the abc7 bay area app. i'll take a look at this lunar new year celebration took a destructive turn in san francisco's chinatown, a waymo car was vandalized and set on fire by a mob of people on jackson street near grant. right around 9:00 last night, waymo tells us nobody was inside that vehicle at the time the fire started. after a window was broken into and a firework thrown inside. firefighters quickly extinguished. the flames also in san francisco, we're hearing from the mother of a young boy who was rescued after getting stuck on a cliff at fort funston. 12 year-old adam told us he thought he could make it up back the hill on his own after descending 150ft towards

the beach. when he got stuck. bystanders call 911 and the highway patrol helicopter showed up for the rescue. mom terry says this was a teachable moment. >> i felt like i was going to be okay. we had some great people on the beach that helped out and called 911, and a great rescue team that helped him, and i think he learned a lesson. >> the mother and son are both relieved and thankful for chp san francisco firefighters and the witnesses who called for help. the fire department says the cliff at fort funston are dangerous. they remind everyone to stay away from them in the east bay. now we're learning more about a deadly stabbing that happened early saturday morning at pleasant hill park. police say the victim was a city employee. investigators identified him as 37 year old santiago jacobo from pittsburg. they say he was a member of the park's janitorial staff, and his body was found by his wife. this is pleasant hill's first homicide of the year. students

at uc berkeley are raising questions over a safety notification system. after there was a shooting on campus friday of sproul plaza and the mlkre student union right ne the intersection of bancroft way and collegaven. abc sev news reporter ryan curry has more on the moments lding up to the shooting and the response from students. fire video shows what happened on the uc berkeley campus friday night. >> a man gets into a fight with several people near sproul plaza . shortly after the fight, he pulls out a gun and starts shooting students quickly ran to safety. >> we happen to notice a bunch of cops drive by where we were, so we came to check it out and we were standing by the student union and somebody was getting pinned to the floor and then carried to the car. i was a little bit shocked that this all happened, like in the student building. >> no one was hurt in campus.

police arrested him several minutes after the shooting, but students say they didn't know there was a shooting until well after it had happened. so this one says there's police activity in lower sproul plaza. >> this is like about 30 minutes after it happened. >> santiago hopkins says he heard from friends instead of the uc berkeley alert system. he was kind of egregious considering, like you know, even the email said there's police activity involved and say there's like a shooter or something. >> um, i heard about it through, uh, like a slack through my club . >> other students didn't get the alert until several hours later. >> the alert system went off and around like, i think like 10 or 11, even though i heard the shooting happened at around 840, you can see the window shot out in the second floor of the student union. >> plenty of students walked through here. it's right by the center of campus. you see, berkeley says they're looking into why the alert system was delayed, but the students we spoke with, they say they want to improved this. >> this has to be better. i think. yeah, it's pretty simple. >> police are notrillioneleasing, the name of the man, but says he is 59 years

58. time now is 513. we're learning new details about a deadly helicopter crash in san bernardino county. six people were on board, including the head of a major nigerian bank and his family. the helicopter went down in the mojave desert after taking off from palm springs airport friday night. the victim's friends say they were on their way to las vegas for the super bowl. people reported seeing fire on the helicopter. the ntsb is looking into reports of downed power lines near the crash site. investigators are also investigating if weather may have been a factor. new details about the fishing vessel that washed ashore friday in the north bay. fish and wildlife officials are concerned about potential pollution from the 1500 gallons of diesel fuel on

board the boat. the vessel grounded itself on sonoma coast state park, two miles southwest of bodega bay. four crew members on board made it safely to shore. the coast guard says it will monitor the boat for leaks until salvage crews come up with a plan to get this boat off the beach in the south bay. now, residents are being warned about false mail containing information or endorsements on judicial elections. the fake mail claims to be from the santa clara county superior court. it released a statement saying the court does not take any position on judicial elections, and it does not endorse, support or oppose any candidates in the east bay. the martinez refinery says it accidentally released petroleum dust into the air this afternoon. now the refinery has had a series of emission issues there lately. the dust can cause health issues if inhaled, but the county health department said there was no impact to the surrounding community. this is the fifth time the refinery has released this dust since

november 2022, when it rained 20 tons of the white powder across martinez. a new bill is making its way through the legislature to ban all plastic grocery bags. that's after a new report shows the existing california bag laws are actually generating more trash in our landfills, not less. the plastic bags we now pay for at checkout stands are supposed to be reusable. up to 125 times, but the reality is, most of us just throw them away after the first use. the bags are thicker and heavier than ones used nearly a decade ago. now in east bay, democratic lawmaker wants to get rid of plastic bags entirely. >> this time we are getting rid of those thick plastic bags that you see in grocery stores. you will no longer be getting plastic bags when you shop trees, you will instead have an option between paper bags or the reusable tote bags. >> but there's this the fee stores charge when they ask you for a bag would not go away. luna new year celebrations are

the lunar new year. >> tara campbell, abc seven news and famous world landmarks lit up red to welcome in the lunar new year. >> right now, red represents good fortune and major cities are leaning into this symbolism. check out the tokyo tower in japan, which rang in the year of the dragon with a grand ceremony. the famous saint trinity bridge in saint petersburg, russia, also illuminated. in the u.s, the empire state building held a lighting ceremony and revealed a zodiac window display for its happy spring festival. all right , take a look at this. this is a tiger named akasha from zoo. boise making her big game day prediction in two boxes were painted with both the san francisco 40 niners and the kansas city chiefs logos, and you can see here in the video, she drags away a good choice. i spot a 40 niners bag right there . that's adorable. well, there's a lot of predictions going on

ahead of the big game. again, espn is predicting a niners win by roughly three points. so lisa, we're hoping that turns into two touchdowns right. >> at least we've been here before. yes. all right well the forecast is going to be nice nonetheless the next couple of days. we do have that to enjoy before things turn around. and we see a return to the rain showers. and as we get through the second half of the workweek, they'll progressively get stronger and the wind is going to accompany that. so first things first, a nice day today. if you're headed outside, watch parties uh- just to hang out temperatures in the low 60s in the afternoon. our inland valleys dropping through the upper 50s to near 50 by 7:00. so that sun will make it feel pretty good after one 2:00 around the bay shore and temperatures will cool off after five, and then along the coast will be in the mid 50s, and we'll have a little bit more in the way of high clouds today. but it should be a nice afternoon and as we look at live doppler seven, you notice that there is a system to the north

here bringing in some of that high cloud cover. and then this is what we're going to tap into the second half of the week. couple of systems getting going. we'll just get things wet by the end of the week. but unfortunately the weekend next weekend looking like a lot of rain as we go through the next couple of hours, we'll see some high clouds and the temperatures warming up slowly. 48 in hayward, 44 in san rafael. so we're basically in the upper 40s. if you outliers in the 30s from saint helena to gilroy, 37, in livermore and our exploratorium camera. so we've got a little bit of frost out there around the east bay, the hills, the santa clara hills there. otherwise it's a nice day today. sun, high cloud mix. and then as we get into really the middle of the week. so we're moving that rain up a little bit into wednesday. some showers return. here's a look at the day to day. so we've got the high clouds sweeping through throughout the afternoon. and then as we get into your monday still mild and partly to mostly cloudy at times. same deal on your tuesday. going to take you

day by day here and this still has definitely room for air. but as we look at your wednesday could see anywhere from a 10th to a third of an inch. this takes us through wednesday night. then we add in thursday. this will take us up to about a half inch. now we're adding the totals from wednesday to thursday and let's add in friday . now you can see a little more rain bringing about an inch, an inch and a third santa rosa. not too much from your thursday friday time period for the rest of the bay area. and then this model on saturday wants to bring anywhere from 3 to 4in from the north bay, over four inches ben lomond. and there's more rain after that. so we have that to prepare for. but today it's all about the mild weather and temperatures reaching about 60. so so enjoy the day today. palo alto, 60 degrees, santa cruz about the same. 63 in san jose, 58in napa. and tonight with the cloud cover not quite as cool, mainly in the mid 40s. the accuweather seven day forecast. we've got a couple of dry days here and then as we get into

of 2026 with the richmond san rafael bridge and the metropolitan transportation commission's goal is to have open road tolling. >> you won't need to slow down to squeeze through that uh- that toll booth, you'll be able to continue on to the bridge at 55 or 65 miles an hour. >> this plan has been in the works since 2018. why has this taken so long? >> it's a great question. um, one one was the need to come up with this new toll collection and accounting system, the system that we have now is a little over ten years old. >> bay area commuters have been waiting for it, but it would be better to just go back and forth without hesitating and stopping or slowing down. in 20 1718, a bay bridge toll worker was killed after a drunk driver crashed into the booth during the pandemic. human toll collectors were removed, but the empty booths have also been a hazard. in october of 2023, a

after that 2020 loss to the chiefs? here's abc seven's chris alvarez. >> good morning and happy super sunday from here in las vegas. a little later today 40 niners and chiefs in super bowl 58. now it's a rematch of the super bowl 54 game we saw in miami, kansas city and san francisco and we know the niners lost that game. and we know fred warner was on that team. and earlier this week i talked the team captain about a little payback against kansas city. tebow called it the hardest, the biggest heartbreak of his life. i imagine, at least on the football field, it has to be how do you overcome that emotion to have maybe the greatest moment of your life in football? >> yeah, i think you kind of i think football is unique. uh- is a unique sport in the fact that there has to be some sort of emotion being played with on the field because of how physical of a game it is. you know, when you're you're putting your body on the line every single play and, you know. but that being said, i think you got to remove most of the emotion out of it in terms of what happened last
