>> all right, we get it. super bowl 58. coming down to just the final seconds. now at six. the tough loss for the 49 ers against the chiefs at allegiant stadium in las vegas. >> there's no words for me there. >> and i just don't get how. we just can't finish it off. >> certainly not the ending. the 40 niner faithful had in mind were checking in on those fans who braved their journey to las vegas for the big game. digging deep, paying thousands for those tickets just to see their team lose in overtime. but the super bowl wasn't all doom and gloom. >> one bay area native took the stage during halftime to perform alongside usher. that was amazing. >> thanks so much for joining us for abc. seven mornings. the day after the usher concert. >> i appreciate you being here. yeah, it is february 12th. >> we want to get a look at the forecast. hopefully something to look forward to. >> yeah. you know what? it's still winter and we do rain around here. and when we do it

know that the kansas city chiefs are never underdogs. just know that the game went into overtime and that's when the winning touchdown since the team's back to back super bowl wins, it's the first time in 19 years since tom brady and the patriots did it last. >> mahomes also tying brady for the number of mvp awards after winning it for the third time last night and another key player, travis kelce, showed some frustration on the sidelines. he ran over to chiefs coach andy reid, screaming at him, almost knocking him back a few steps. there reportedly, he was angry he wasn't on the field for a play. i'm a keep it between us. >> i was just telling him how much i love him. yeah yeah, that's what he said, right? >> uh- all was well after the game between travis kelce and of course taylor swift sharing a kiss on the field during the celebration. the kansas city parade is on wednesday. but of course that does not concern us. we're thinking about the 40 niners fans this morning that made the trip to las vegas, hoping to see their team win big. they were treated to an

exciting game right up to the last minute, but were heartbroken with that overtime finish. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes live for us at allegiant stadium with reaction from some of those fans. zach, obviously not the ending we were hoping for. >> it's not. and it was such a crazy game, especially once it went into overtime there. and look, 40 niners fans are faithful, but they're still disappointed. just take a look at some of the video that we shot shortly after the game. there you see this fan walking out of the stadium just after the loss. and that was really the look and feeling from so many of the niners fans in the stadium. when the last touchdown was made. and while every 40 niners fan felt disappointment at how they reacted to the loss, was different among each person. we got to speak with, take a listen to what some of them had to say, pienta three super bowls in my life. >> new orleans, miami and here we lost everyone. it's devastated. so devastated. i'm from the bay area, danville devastated at the end of the

day, being here is a blessing and the team fought through it. >> a lot of adversity this year. >> yeah, each person we spoke with did have a lot of pride for quarter the court, their team's quarterback. and look, both teams had complimentary things to say about each other. fans of kansas city chiefs had complimentary things to say about the 40 niners and vice versa. a well fought game, some disappointment from 40 niners fans, but a lot of excitement out here and a lot of proud people of their team, regardless of that outcome right now, live in a very cold las vegas this morning. zach fuentes abc seven news. >> all right. thanks so much, zach. >> and in san francisco, fans poured out onto 24th street after the heartbreaking loss. it was fairly subdued with just a few fireworks shooting into the night. sky fans are trying to see the positive and look forward to next season. >> hell of a game. i mean, they could have done better. they could have done some better plays, but it was a hell of a game. >> we still faithful to the niners? no matter what. there is

no this year, probably next year we're going to be a champions san francisco police had several roadblocks set up around the city in preparation for the possibility of big celebrations taking over the streets and we know that did not happen. >> we've compiled all our stories on the 40 niners, run to the super bowl in a new streaming special, the road to las vegas. you can stream it on demand right now on our website or the abc7 bay area app. >> san francisco police are following leads this morning after vandals set a waymo self-driving car on fire. it happened during lunar new year's celebrations in chinatown on saturday. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at waymo headquarters in san francisco, with the reaction from witnesses that saw this unfold. lena, the video we have of this incident is just wild. >> yeah, that's right julian. unfortunately no one was inside of the car at the time of this incident and city officials say police now have good leads on this case. now, one witness that we talked to said he came to

chinatown for lunar new year celebrations on saturday, but he never expected things would take a destructive turn like this. a waymo driverless car stopped in traffic, vandalized and set on fire by a group of people. all of it caught on camera. he describes the moments when one man jumped on the hood and then on the windshield, which is what started the whole thing. witnesses say about a dozen people were involved. one person is seen using a skateboard to break the car's windows before someone threw a firework inside of the car, causing it to fill with smoke and catch fire. >> eventually, people started backing away, but it was very, very dangerous. the car could have exploded. it's just a mob mentality. everyone all the adrenaline of the whole situation. it was mostly, i think, young teenagers who were responsible for the damage and the vandalism. >> now, waymo tells abc seven news the vehicle was not transporting any riders and no injuries have been reported. we

are working closely with local safety officials to respond to the situation. the san francisco police department says that it is investigating, but so far no suspects. supervisor aaron peskin tells us that police are collecting lots of video evidence from this incident. live in san francisco lena howland abc seven news. >> thanks, lena and in the east bay, some oakland residents are calling for a state of emergency to be declared over public safety. the group coalition for community engagement rallied in the parking lot of the soon to close in-n-out burger. they say small business owners are struggling after being targeted in robberies, burglaries and vandalism in every part of the town. if in and out, we're in the parking lot of in and out. >> if they cannot survive. imagine small businesses cannot survive as well, and people are dying. businesses are dying. our communities are dying. we need to stop that now. the insanity needs to stop. >> the group is unhappy with the performances of oakland mayor shang tao and the alameda county

district attorney, pamela price. they did applaud governor gavin newsom for his order to send additional highway patrol officers and state attorneys to the east bay. investigators in texas this morning searching for a motive into why a woman opened fire at celebrity pastor joel osteen's megachurch. and gloria, this happened as the church was packed with parishioners for sunday service, as it did amanda. >> off duty officers responded as gunfire broke out inside. joel osteen's lakewood church yesterday in houston. police say the suspected shooter, a woman said to be in her 30s, walked into the church holding a rifle and she brought along a five year old boy. and that boy is now in the hospital with serious injuries. a 57 year old man was also shot in the leg and taken to the hospital. those two off duty officers who were working at the church shot and killed the shooter. the incident happened just before spanish service was about to begin. hundreds of parishioners were inside at the time.

>> they started shooting and we weren't scared. and then we went to the chairs to try to protect us. and then everybody was crazy running. police say the woman claimed to have a bomb before she died, but authorities say no explosive sieves were found at the scene. >> the shooter's identity has not yet been released, and we also don't have any word yet on a motive for that attack. amanda. >> thanks, gloria. and still to come, we're hearing from students at uc berkeley after a man fires a gun. several times on campus. the charges that person is now facing. and an apology from one man running for president. >> the reason robert kennedy is now apologizing to some of his family members following an ad that ran during the super bowl and starting your monday off with some cloud cover and dense fog in the north bay, frosty temperatures in the hills of santa clara, and we will be looking at some slight improvements.

concerns over a safety notification that should have went off on campus. it happened. a shooting there friday night in the area of sproul plaza and the mlk student union. abc seven news reporter ryan curry has more on the moments leading up to the shooting and response from students. air. new video shows what happened on the uc berkeley campus friday night. a man gets into a fight with several people near sproul plaza. shortly after the fight, he pulls out a gun and starts shooting students quickly ran to safety. >> we happen to notice a bunch of cops drive by where we were so we came to check it out and we were standing by the student union and somebody was getting pinned to the floor. and then

carried to the car. i was a little bit shocked that this all happened, like in the student building. >> no one was hurt in campus. police arrested him several minutes after the shooting, but students say they didn't know there was a shooting until well after it had happened. >> so this one says there's police activity in lower sproul plaza. this is like about 30 minutes after it happened. >> santiago hopkins says he heard from friends instead of the uc berkeley alert system. >> he was kind of egregious considering, like, you know, even the email said there's police activity involved and say there's like a shooter or something. um, i heard about it through, uh, like a slack through my club. >> other students didn't get the alert until several hours later. >> the alert system went off and around like i think like 10 or 11, even though i heard the shooting happened at around 840, you can see the window shot out in the second floor of the student union. >> plenty of students walked through here. it's right by the center of campus. uc berkeley says they're looking into why the alert system was delayed.

but the students we spoke with, they say they want it improved. >> it just has to be better, i think. yeah it's pretty simple. >> police are notrillioneleased in the name of the man, but says he is 59 years old and not affiliated with the school. they say he faces several weapons charges. students on campus are on edge the day after. >> i mean, i come here every day, so, like, i, i could have i could have been here when the shooting happened, and thankfully, i wasn't in berkeley. >> ryan curry, abc seven news. happening today at bodega bay salvage crews will begin siphoning 1500 gallons of diesel fuel from a fishing boat that ran aground over the weekend. the u.s. coast guard has been keeping an eye on the 58 foot aleutian storm for fuel leaks after it washed ashore on saturday. the captain of the boat radioed for help after getting stuck in the sand on the beach at the sonoma coast state park, all four crew members got okay. got to the shore. okay, i should say salvage teams will remove the fuel before transporting the boat off the

you'll notice thursday. not as much rain as perhaps wednesday. but as we get into friday and the weekend, we will have some breaks. but there are a series of wet weather systems that will affect us. and the big picture here picks up on wednesday, thursday looks pretty light. there's our break for part of friday, then late friday into saturday. first system following quickly. another one sunday into monday and this will bring some wind but not like the wind. we had a couple of sundays ago. if we add up the rainfall totals into the middle of next week, about nine days out, we're talking maybe three inches santa rosa, the hills there over two and a half san francisco, san jose could pick up an inch and a half or so. but as for today, we're dry. but some peeks of sun, especially in our inland valley. so 60 in concord, 61 in fremont, upper 50s downtown, and the accuweather seven day forecast featuring another dry day for your tuesday level one system. valentine's day, thursday, and then heavier rain could bump this up to a level two, maybe into the middle of the weekend. gloria >> yeah, lisa, we are getting

at school. it's going to cost you a lot of money, especially in san francisco. a new report shows tuition his sky rocketed over the years. the chronicle analyzed the data and it found it's costing families $520,000 to send their kids to private school for 13 years. that's from kindergarten through high school . the average annual tuition has risen nearly 70% in the past 20 years, and in san francisco, nearly one third of k through 12 students are enrolled in a private school versus 10% in california, the report says. the most expensive school in the city is the bay school of san francisco. the tuition there is more than. $61,000 a year more defense secretary lloyd austin

is back in the hospital this morning for what the defense department is calling an emergent bladder issue. austin was taken to the critical care unit at walter reed medical center in bethesda, maryland. officials there say they expect austin to make a full recovery and that his prognosis for fighting prostate cancer remains excellent. the 70 year old has transferred duties to his deputy, kathleen hicks. it's unclear how long he will remain at walter reed medical facility. coming up next at 630, former president donald trump now getting heat from international leaders. what he said about nato that has some us allies questioning his allegiance. and as we head to break, we will take you outside on this monday morning. the sun still comes up after a tough 49 ers loss. we have lots of coverage coming up from vegas after this sho

turn campbell-black. of course, little john. you got usher luda, little john, all artists with serious ties to atlanta. so they had to end the show shouting out their city. i told the world today i took the world to the a bay. now a lot of the internet was upset that justin bieber did not perform, even though he is from canada, which is definitely not atlanta. and whether or not he was asked to or not, he did show up for his friend and even wearing an atlanta braves hat. that is a good friend right there supporting his guy in new york. for abc news, i'm danny new. >> i'm still going to say it upset with bieber not being there. i'm upset about the super bowl outcome. and so are so many 40 niners fans who went to las vegas hoping to see their team take home the victory. though many are heartbreak taken, they were treated to a thrilling game. abc seven news reporter zac fuentes is live outside of

allegiant stadium, with more on how fans there took the loss. good morning zach. looks like the sun is up. >> uh- good morning to you amanda. i know a lot of us are sad this morning. i was inside the stadium for a good part of the game, and there was just a full range of emotions from people who were on both sides rooting for either team. but of course, the 40 niners disappointment after that loss was about as intense as the game itself was, and you can see their reaction in some of the video we shot shortly after. for some of the first fans walked out of the stadium following that stunning loss, and it looks in their faces. it's just a feeling shared by so many we spoke with as they left the game and still processed its outcome. and then, while it's clear no. 40 niners fan was happy with the loss, how each person is reacting really differs among who we got to speak with. >> there's no words. >> we there and i just don't get how. we just can't finish it off. four years, five years, just just we're so close. jr and just it's not working out man i don't know what to do. >> i'm bummed. but but, uh, very

thankfully, no one was hurt in this. >> julian, that is the good news here that nobody was hurt and nobody was in the car at the time of the incident, either. take a look at this video. a wave, a waymo driverless car stopped in traffic, vandalized and set on fire by a group of people, all of it caught on camera. witnesses say one man jumped on the hood and then on the windshield, which is what started the whole thing. they say about a dozen people were involved. one person is seen using a skateboard to break the car's windows before someone threw a firework inside the car, causing it to fill with smoke and catch fire supervisor aaron peskin says police are collecting lots of video evidence of the crime in progress. >> i've talked to them today. they've got good leads and i'm pretty hopeful, if not confident , that arrest will be made. it's totally unacceptable. it's particularly horrific that they did that during chinatown's most important day of the year.

and look at the fog. it's like a morning summertime view, right? we have low cloud like we did yesterday, and we have high clouds. 42 santa rosa, 37, napa 39. concord, a dense fog advisory through 10:00 for our north bay valleys, where visibility is reduced to nothing , and our eastern santa clara hills are frost advisory. partly cloudy today. dry the next couple of days. rain returns level one system wednesday ending into thursday. here's a look at today and the cloud cover thinning out from time to time. more so east bay and south bay. tuesday they were cloudy and as we get into wednesday, the morning commute looks dry right now, but this could change . stopping this at about 4:00 and you see the rain moving into the north bay, sweeping through the bay area. it's not a big system at all. we're looking at wednesday rainfall about a half inch to a quarter of an inch, maybe less in the south bay. friday we add to that about an inch in the north bay, and we're adding to the totals now. breaks in between here with two and a half to three inches north bay coastal hills and ben lowman, the santa cruz mountains once again upper 50s to near 60. in
