the peninsula tonight as police investigate the deaths of four people, including two four year old twin boys found inside a san mateo home. >> good evening. thank you for joining us. >> i'm dan ashley, and i'm ama daetz. the discovery was prompted by a welfare check this morning. >> abc seven news reporter ryan curry has the latest on the story. police tape along alameda de las pulgas and fernwood street. investigators are focusing on this home. when they showed up, they found four people dead. >> unfortunately, we located four more deceased people inside the home one adult male, one adult female. and that two children. >> police say they got a call for a welfare check in the morning, but when they arrived, they couldn't get inside through any door. they had to break a window in the front yard. sources tell the abc seven news i-team. the two children were four year old twin boys. police are notrillioneleasing their identities or any information about how they died. however, investigators are not looking for any suspects. they say the incident is isolated to that

home. >> officers didn't locate any forced entry to the home or anything like that. so as they're continuing to investigate everything at this time, whether there's no evidence to say that it wasn't an isolated incident, still, this neighborhood is on edge. >> we spoke with people who live on this street. they told us this is a quiet neighborhood, suburban safe. they never thought something like this would happen here. >> streets closed between 40th, 41st and 42nd. and i'm going. that's my. that's my area. >> danny mcdevitt was on a routine walk around the block when she saw the police tape. >> it's a quiet, safe. i walk it every other day at least. and this breaks my heart. >> never did she think her almost daily walks would involve being near a crime scene. this is just not the norm. >> um, for this area. i mean, it's turned out to be a crazy

world out there now, but this in , uh, our area of westwood knolls. no, no, in san mateo. >> ryan curry abc seven news in the east bay, pleasant hill police say they've assigned all of their investigative team to solving a murder that happened in a popular park over the weekend. >> abc seven news reporter leslie brinkly has the very latest from a city that has had very little violent crime until this homicide in the last five years, there have only been three murders in peaceful pleasant hill. >> solving this homicide and arresting the person or persons responsible for this is a top priority for our department. >> late friday night, a pleasant hill park janitor, 37 year old santiago jacobo of pittsburgh, didn't return home as expected. his worried wife drove to the. park just after 4:30 a.m. saturday. she went to the park to check on him, and in fact, she was our 911 caller. >> unfortunately, she found him

down, unconscious and unresponsive in the parking lot. >> the parking lot faces out onto busy gregory lane across the street as pleasant hill city hall and lots of businesses. >> part of the investigation is canvasing for any and all video cameras and video evidence associated. so yes, our detectives are are gathering video footage and studying the footage at this time. >> jacobo, coworkers and family and friends are being interviewed and evidence is being processed, according to police. a small shrine to jacobo has popped up in the park with flowers and candles and notes of condolence. >> it sounds like a premeditated murder, obviously. i don't think it'd be a random, random, uh, person doing that. um, and that's a little frightening to know that it happened. >> you're in shock. so it's not like i'm in some city with high crime and danger and people are being robbed and mugged, so you got to wonder. >> it's just so sad. it's very

sad. but uh, they just hope is, you know, it doesn't happen again. >> police still don't have a suspect or suspects, but expect to have more information on solving the murder later this week in pleasant hill. i'm leslie brinkly. abc seven news in san francisco, now, 23 people have been arrested during a two night operation around un plaza last week. >> it's part of the drug market agency coordination center's effort to combat open air drug markets and activities happening in that area of town. overnight, the city invested $2 million to renovate the plaza last year, san francisco mayor london breed calls the waymo vehicle arson an unacceptable act. >> the mayor released a statement today saying crimes like this have no place in the city. during saturday's lunar new year celebration in chinatown, a mob of people set fire. look at that to a waymo self-driving car. after breaking the windows and throwing a firecracker inside for the fire, crews were able to extinguish the flames quite quickly. sfpd

is investigating this case in the south bay, a street reopening is being celebrated two months after a christmas day fire ripped through a massive commercial building today, the last cones blocking off a portion of el camino real were removed. >> abc seven news reporter dustin dorsey has the story. >> this turn may not seem like anything special, but it's a turn in the right direction for los altos residents. el camino real has been closed since christmas day after a fire destroyed a two story shopping center. now for the first time since that day. traffic is moving smoothly. once again. >> i'm happy that el camino is back open so we can actually back across. >> now it's less traffic and it's more productive. we're not having it closed down. it was just a real nuisance. >> this shopping center has been surrounded by fences since the fire, but the road closures are now gone. as happy as many are to see the street open, the walkways are still blocked off. >> i see a lot of people walking

here that can't get around going like i'm having to do around the whole building. i've seen people, people in wheelchairs and older people, and there i've actually seen them swearing because the area is not open for them to even get by. you can understand their frustration. >> it's been almost two months since the fire. the detours for walking, biking and driving. have been challenging for businesses and residents alike. >> they started disassembling it slowly and when they were doing that, they were hauling the trucks out here, making a lot of racket and they were just tearing it down. and they just did a piece by piece. but they i think they could have done a little bit quicker and more efficient. >> a look inside the fences shows the area where this building once stood. now it's a giant hole and a pile of rubble. demolition is in its final stages, and the road opening came ahead of schedule. the city hopes the bike lanes and sidewalks will reopen soon as well. >> we understand that it did cause some inconveniences, but we're glad that county fire was able to conduct their

investigation in a safe manner. we're going to continue working efficiently and safely to be able to get those open for the community as far as what caused the fire in the first place, that's still a mystery in los altos. >> dustin dawsey abc seven news. >> in the north bay, a major operation is underway to free a large fishing boat that's been stuck on a remote stretch of beach near bodega bay. the coast guard says the vessel ran aground during rough seas friday night. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard explains why the refloating mission is becoming urgent. by air, land and sea, there's a major operation happening on this beach. >> dozens of people working to get the 58 foot aleutian storm back into the pacific. trouble is, she's stuck in several feet of sand. >> she does weigh about 57 tons. and so everything we have has to be a pretty heavy lift. and so it definitely has been challenging. but she is a steel

hulled vessel, which is actually beneficial to her because she's not breaking up in the surf. >> lieutenant kenny says the crab fishing boat ran aground friday night at sonoma coast state park during rough seas. its four crew members made it to safety. >> friday night, there was a bit of weather that was coming through and so, as you know, when storms happen, things can change rather quickly. >> but there are now pollution concerns surrounding all the fuel, which could leak from tanks. >> it definitely does have fuel on board. he was on his way to bodega to refuel, so not his max load, but there was an estimated about 1500 gallons of diesel on board. >> heavy machinery is being used to remove sand to help free aleutian storm, but more help is needed right now. the coast guard says the plan is to attach a tow line to the aleutian storm and a tug boat offshore and pull her off the beach. when the tide comes in. >> today, our efforts are to refloat the vessel, which is going to be pulling it off the beach. >> gary sachs from sebastopol is watching the effort and taking

because of wild fire smoke. researchers from the first street foundation say. fine particles pollution that type from comes that comes from wildfire smoke is rising in western states at the same time, it's actually dropping in other parts of the country. these pollutants have been linked to alzheimer's, dementia. and cancer, according to the san francisco chronicle. counties like santa clara, alameda, sonoma and napa could see more than a month's worth of bad air per year by 2054. >> all right, time now to get a check on our weather. it's gorgeous. >> out it is. we've got good air out there now. >> meteorologist sandyha patel is here with the forecast. but sandy, that is going to change rather significantly. >> we're going to see a wet pattern set up, that's for sure. but you have some time to enjoy the sun. dan and a good evening to all of you. let's take a look at a live picture right now from our mount tam cam. absolutely gorgeous. the sun setting 5:45 p.m. tonight and you will notice all those extra clouds around. these are high clouds in advance of our first weather system in

the series. so this system is developing in the pacific. it will bring us wet weather as early as wednesday. right now on live doppler seven, a few passing high clouds and that's about it. your temperatures are in the comfortable zone, 50s and 60s. you know, it was really foggy across parts of the bay area this morning, but it has definitely brightened up this afternoon and evening. overnight tonight, increasing clouds. you certainly see a lot of sun from our san jose camera. valentine's day rain arrives, but don't worry, it's not going to dampen the entire day. i'll get to that in just a moment. beneficial rain coming our way and the holiday weekend. a wet, windy pattern is setting up as a series of storms comes through here. but first let's talk about the overnight hours into tomorrow morning. you see a lot of cloud cover, maybe a little drizzle as well. we certainly are going to see some fog out there to start off the morning. just like this morning. now by tomorrow night, rain is just off the coastline and we'll talk about when it reaches your neighborhood first thing tomorrow morning. 30s and 40s, on your temperatures, a little

bit of damp roadways because of the mist and drizzle. and tomorrow afternoon you are looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies. highs in the 50s and the 60s. a level one system is coming in wednesday, going into thursday morning. light to moderate rain. highest totals in the north bay and it will be breezy at times. so we're going to show you hour by hour what happens at midnight wednesday. the rain is still north of the bay area. 8 a.m. wednesday. you will notice some showers beginning to move into the north bay. that's where it stays until about 11 a.m. then you start to see the rain shifting southward by 3 p.m. some other areas are getting wet. 6:00 you're seeing some pockets of light to moderate rain. this continues into the latter part of the evening. and going into the wee hours of thursday morning before this system pushes on out of here, it certainly will mean that rain totals will slow down your commutes at times. so keep that in mind, especially for the evening. highest rain totals as i mentioned, over an inch in ukiah. but as you head into the rain shadow of the santa cruz

mountains, places like san jose getting under a 10th of an inch, this does turn to snow in the mountains, but more of that snow coming in over the weekend with more significant storms coming in. so by presidents day, some of the resorts picking up anywhere from 2 to 3ft of snow certainly will be a rain snow mix at times. so the longer range models saturday here comes the next system. it will bring a heavier rain at times than the third one on sunday and going into monday. so keep that in mind as you make your holiday weekend plans. accuweather 70 forecast tomorrow you're still okay. mix of sun and clouds. level one for valentine's day, a one thursday with some morning showers and then a one for uh- saturday and sunday mainly and monday, but we may need to bump that to a22 for the weekend. so dan and ama stay tuned because that system, those systems look a little stronger. >> all right. thanks andy. >> the san francisco 40 niners are back in the bay area. the team plane landed this afternoon in san jose, where seven busses were waiting to take the players
