we work together to try and solve the problems we face in our country? and that's the message, and that's the message that resonated with the people in this campaign. >> former president trump is suggesting pilip lost because she wasn't maga enough, and he slammed her as a foolish woman who failed to endorse him. >> meanwhile, on capitol hill, house republicans mustered up just enough votes to impeach homeland security secretary alejandro mayorkas. abc's sam win has more this morning, for the first time since 1876, a sitting u.s. cabinet secretary has been impeached. >> the yeas are 214 and the nays are 213. >> the resolution is adopted. >> the republican led house narrowly impeaching homeland security secretary. alejandro mayorkas after a failed effort last week. they accused mayorkas of failing to enforce immigration laws, triggering a crisis at the southern border that has resulted in millions of illegal migrant crossings since president biden took office.

>> and thank you. it was a chaotic scene at an austin hospital. all of that smoke after a vehicle crashed into an emergency room entrance area. the driver was pronounced dead after staff at saint david's north medical center performed emergency services. at least four other people were injured, including two children. some of those hurt are in critical condition. officials say it appears to just be an accident, but there were no signs that the crash was intentional. >> some parts of the northeast are clearing up to 15in of snow. most areas received less, but it was heavy and wet, bringing down power lines and leaving tens of thousands of residents in the dark, wet roads and falling temperatures overnight have officials warning of black ice during the morning commute? let's get the valentine's day forecast from accuweather's. melissa konstanzer melissa, good morning andrew. >> good morning. it's a chilly one and a little breezy. watch out for a few icy spots, especially where it snowed. accuweather realfeel values in the teens this morning or single digits in some spots in the northeast and new england. but there's a new storm system on

the horizon. this one not very strong starting up today in the plains and working its way east into tomorrow night with it. 1 to 3in of snow possible for some, and in some areas in the higher elevations, we'll talk about three plus inches of snow. andrew. >> rhiannon, melissa, thank you. now to your money. and it might feel like there's a lot less of it these days because of inflation. those concerns were justified by new reports showing inflation is being more stubborn than many expected. abc's lina moise explains this. morning americans are paying the price for rising inflation. >> from the grocery store to housing and transportation prices were 3.1% higher in january compared to a year ago, which was worse than analysts expected in response, the dow plunging 500 points while it was, showed improvement was not nearly as good as anticipated. >> prices are up a lot, so investors are expecting perfection an they didn't get it rent and housing costs increased 0.6. >> a major driver of inflation

getting behind the wheel of a car. also more expensive. >> it's a lot more to own a, to purchase a car, particularly a new vehicle. and because of that costs a lot more to get insurance on a car. >> prices for many groceries also on the rise, including cereal and beverages. >> we're seeing prices rise for fruits and vegetables as they were up a lot during the month. soda prices jumped a lot, so all in all, prices for food are growing more slowly than they have been. but they're still, you know, things that we all enjoy where prices are jumping, still jumping. >> since january 2020, just before the pandemic, grocery prices are up a whopping 25% and beef prices could hit a record high this year due to bad weather and feed costs. to keep up with the cost of living, more workers are pushing for higher wages. flight attendants picketed yesterday. those at alaska airlines have voted to authorize a strike, and today uber, lyft. and doordash drivers

are planning to strike, demanding higher pay. >> a wage growth is now outpacing inflation for most wage groups. still very uncomfortable. particularly low. income households. struggling with the still very high food prices. rents are a lot higher than they were the cost of energy and electricity. so kind of basic things that people need now, the bad news on inflation means don't expect the federal reserve to cut interest rates any time soon. >> rhiannon andrew lionel. >> thank you. there appear to be there appears to be a major change coming to the nation's covid isolation guidelines. the cdc is about to announce new guidance saying americans who test positive no longer have to stay home for five days. that's news coming from the washington post. instead people could return to work and school if they have been fever free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medication and if symptoms are improving, big change.
