but okay. >> but it's good they're testing on that instead. >> i agree, i agree. yeah, just in time for valentine's day, a look at the top love songs. my endless love. one. all right, endless love by diana ross and lionel richie tops the billboard 50 best love songs list. the rest of the top five includes i'll make love to you by boys to men, how deep is your love by the bee gees, we found love by rihanna and calvin harris, and silly love songs by wings. this list is based on the performance of each song on the weekly billboard hot 100 chart. uh, does anybody have a different nomination, or do you think one of those is probably your pick? >> well, i have one that most people probably have not heard of because it was on an album by smokey robinson and the miracles that was released in the late 60s, and it wasn't one of their, like, solo hits. it was like a secondary song. it's called my love for you, and it's actually
4:44 pm
a smokey robinson solo. it's called my love for you and for me. that's the sweetest love song i've ever heard. >> oh, that is sweet. >> and i like smokey, i like cruisin, that's one of my favorite songs. yeah it's such a good one. i don't know, you know, i like the top three. i'm not sure about the rihanna calvin harris one, and i'll be honest, i had to google the last one out there. yeah, i did hear mariah carey always be my baby on the way driving in. i know it wouldn't make the top, but that is a good one too. >> i was going to say mariah carey, but i would say pretty much any boys to men song. oh yeah, especially that one. so i'm glad at least they were on the list. yeah i mean, mariah carey's already got christmas locked down, so valentine's to somebody else. there are a lot of good love songs out there. if you listen to like, the 80s, 90s station, you're like, oh yeah, that's. and you remember all the words. >> you got one, spencer. another. >> yeah, one by bonnie raitt called i can't make you love me if you won't. >> it's kind of a heartbreaking song, but it is a love song. >> all right? >> okay. spencer's breaking hearts on valentine's day. >> well, speaking of that, some
4:45 pm
people are not a fan of the flowers, the chocolates and all the hoopla over valentine's day. we know that. but you can name a cockroach or a rat after an ex-partner before it gets fed to another animal. how about that for a breakup isn't the only reason some hate the holiday. a pew survey found 30% of singles aren't interested in a relationship. then there's sweethearts, which launched a candy with blurred letters for those hard to define relationships. i do hope that you know this holiday. it doesn't make people feel like, you know, i need to be in a relationship. and i'm sad, you know? it's a day to maybe just tell your mom, your sister, your brother, your kid, i love you. >> yes, i do it with my friends. we've been texting all day. just love you. friendships rock. awesome. you know all that good stuff? yep. yes yes. >> actually, on the three today, we had a guest whose whole thing is about divorce. finding happiness based on yourself. not couplehood, not like that's the
4:46 pm
norm. and only way to have a fulfilling, you know, life. so true, right? if that's you and you got singlehood going, celebrate yourself. get yourself a little chocolate. yes. >> so many of my single friends said i'm treating myself today. so treat yourself. i'm peter dixon and in kenya... we built a hospital that provides maternal care. as a marine... we fought against the taliban and their crimes against women. and in hillary clinton's state department... we took on gender-based violence in the congo. now extremists are banning abortion and contraception right here at home. so, i'm running for congress to help stop them. for your family... and mine. i approved this message because this is who we are.

and it's going to be like that for the evening. unfortunately, on valentine's day. >> kristen, i know, i know, but
4:49 pm
let's check in with spencer and see what you can expect. a lot of storm coming our way. >> oh well that's true. kristen and karina, let's take a look at live doppler seven. i've been characterizing the storm so far as a mainly light storm, but look at that line of rain moving onshore right now with a bunch of downpours embedded in it in those areas of yellow and orange. so there's going to be some heavy rain, or at least some spotty, briefly heavy rain over the next hour or so as that line moves inland. this storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is level one storm through this evening, mainly light showers, mainly with briefly heavy downpours at times and breezy with slick roadways. here's the forecast animation showing the widespread scattered showers going into the late evening and then the storm sort of breaks up after midnight with just a few few trailing showers overnight into the early morning. now we have a line of other storms, a series of other storms moving in one on saturday, another one late sunday into monday, and tuesday. so some pretty heavy rain is headed our way with a impressive rainfall accumulations by next tuesday or wednesday. here's the
4:50 pm
accuweather seven day forecast. you can see a level two storm coming in on saturday. level one on sunday, level two storms monday and tuesday. stormy weather lies ahead kristen. >> all right. spencer. thank you love. fill the terminals today as san jose mineta international airport. but there are plenty of happy tales roaming around looking to spread their love to passengers. the airport's therapy pets were all decked out for the occasion, with valentine's day inspired outfits. there is even a parade to start the day through baggage claim to let the animals strut their stuff. the airport was the first in the us to introduce therapy animals. >> new chicks are flaunting their feathers in a celebration. of love at the california academy of sciences, the academy's african exhibit welcomed four new baby penguins to the colony today as part of the annual penguin valentine's program. look how cute they are! oh, aussie finn, iggy and lazala all received heart shaped felt valentines. they'll use them as nesting material in their nest
4:51 pm
boxes. the academy's biologists say the nesting is great for pair bonding of the penguins. too cute. are okay. a fremont filmmaker is up for an oscar. >> the nominee took his family's ordinary yet extraordinary life and turned it into a movie. why he said it was important to share their story next

steve harvey at ten. then stay with us for abc seven news at 11. >> osama. an osca filmmaker, used his grandmothers as inspiration for his movie. >> and he grew up right here in the bay area. abc seven news anchor julian glover spoke with shawn wong about his film. >> the short is about my two grandmothers, my nana, who was my paternal grandmother and my maternal grandmother. and i think if you see the film, it's such a holistic portrait of them. and to me they are just the most pure form of joy in my life. i think they are so special. they are truly magic and i, you know, i'm from the bay area. i grew up here. but you know, like a lot of people, i left home at a certain age and i was living in new york city for about 5 or 6 years. and i moved home in 2021 to then move
4:55 pm
back to la, where i went to school to be closer to a lot of my filmmaking collaborators. and i had this sort of transitory period in my life of a months long period where i was living at home with my grandmothers and that time happened to coincide with a lot of anti-asian hate crimes that were happening in our country. but especially in the bay area. you know, where we shot the movie, where they are. um, and so that sort of feeling of seeing that and then seeing my grandmother's and it was this extreme anger and extreme, um, joy kind of juxtaposition like that, that juxtaposition was such an a strange feeling. and that was sort of, um, coupled with this feeling of, you know, seeing the fragility in my grandmother's, you know, i saw how how, um, their, their the feeling of their sort of their aging. and i had this thought that when i do eventually leave home, like, that could be the last time i see my grandmother and so with all of those
4:56 pm
emotions kind of swirling, you know, the filmmaker in me was just like, i want a time capsule of this moment with them. i want to remember these few months that i get to spend at home with them, and really see them in their sort of day to day, quotidian rhythms of their life. um, but also, i want to make something that was kind of an antidote to all of the headlines that i was seeing, something that really captured their humanity, their their joy, their silliness, their humor, their infectious, childlike. energy. yeah. without also their wisdom. >> to their wisdom. >> yeah. without ignoring the, you know, the wisdom they have and the pain and the loneliness that comes with old age sometimes. so that was the impetus. >> i want to ask you what it was like to ask them to essentially be the stars of this short, because i know, you know, grandparents can be so kind of like, oh, no, don't, you know, don't feature me like you should be talking about something else. so what was it like for you to ask your grandmothers? hey i want you to be the stars of this short. >> yeah. i mean, it was
4:57 pm
honestly, it was easy. you know, they we i mean, i'm like their filmmaker grandson. so i've made stuff with them in the past, you know, like, oh, so they are already stars in their own right. >> yeah. >> and i knew that. and i keep joking with them, you know, and it's not a joke anymore. but when we were shooting it, i was like, hey, will you be my movie stars? and they were like, oh, we can't be your movie stars. but we'll be your actresses. and subjects. i'm like, no, you'll be my movie stars like you guys are movie stars. and they're like, no, these are their words. but they're like, movie stars are beautiful and young. and i'm like, you are beautiful. so you're a movie stars. and so. so it wasn't hard, really, because yeah, we the idea of their grandson with the camera filming them, making something silly out of it. yeah. wasn't foreign to them. i think it was the, the, the other stuff that was like, hey, just being honest, like, i want i want to create a holistic portrait of you. and that means, you know, i want to have a record of who you were before you were my grandmother. absolutely. you know, and that sort of the pain of their childhoods and what it's like to sort of grow old and think about
4:58 pm
, think about death and mortality. like, i want to talk about those things with you guys and the infrastructure of making this film allowed me to kind of go to those places with them. >> a filmmakers love letter to his grandmother's name and waipoua is now streaming on disney+ and hulu. you can see if sean wins the oscars on march 10th. we're rooting for him right here on abc seven. the academy awards begins one hour earlier than usual at 4 p.m, and that's going to do it for abc seven news at four. abc seven news at five with dan and ama is coming up next
