much more snow they expect in the sierra. abc seven news at six starts right now. >> always live. abc seven news starts right now. >> a sunny start, but this time lapse video from atop mount tam shows just how quickly the weather can change as our latest storm rumbles into the bay area. thanks for joining us, everybody. i'm dionne lim, be prepared for pounding rain and whipping winds. the storm landed its first punch about an hour ago in the north bay, and you can see from these live conditions in san rafael, things are looking ominous. or we are going to be getting a check now of the weather situation with spencer uh- and talking about the winds. this is really affecting this camera shot. >> it really is down all around the bay area. our live cameras are bouncing in the gusty wind. here's a look at live doppler seven. you can see the rain is becoming quite widespread right now. and down in the santa cruz

mountains we did some pounding rain falling right now, but let's move up to the north bay where we see pockets of steady rain all around the area from sonoma county over to napa, down into marin, and into the golden gate area. so the rain is spreading. here's a look at the storm from satellite image. you can see how tightly wound the storm is generating. wave after wave of rain and strong, gusty wind on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level two storm. so for tonight and part of tomorrow, at least moderate to heavy rainfall. wind gusts from 25 to 50mph. forecast animation starting at 630 shows a steady flow of downpours during the late night and overnight hours into the morning commute. so this storm is going to be with us for a while and may make for a challenging driving conditions tomorrow morning for morning commuters, wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. tuesday. a flood watch in effect for the entire bay area until wednesday morning, and a high surf advisory because of the winds kicking up those high waves in effect until a 4 a.m. tuesday. so there's a lot going on and the storm is going to be

with us for a while. i'll have the complete accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. diane all right. >> spencer, thanks. people on the peninsula spent the entire day preparing for round two of the rain and wind. abc's seven news reporter cornell bernard caught up with some who have become accustomed to this kind of weather. >> it's been a day of severe weather here on the coast. we have seen super strong wind and rain all day here in pacifica. in fact, just standing upright has been tough. let's talk about the surf, the ocean certainly churning ahead of the storm that is now moving in. wow, look at the swell building up there that's going to probably hit 15 20ft. janaki taneti and her husband rama are watching big waves crashing at the pacific pier. >> oh my goodness gracious. look at that. jesus >> the surf is churning up ahead of the next storm. moving into the bay area. >> oh, it's magnificent. it's exhilarating to see this. this high swells. >> it's scary too. i was i feel

dizzy when i was watching the waves because they keep moving. >> the city is closing the pier to the public as a safety precaution due to high wave action. neighbors on beach boulevard are sandbagging their properties to keep seawater out. stormy conditions have prompted the closure of seven parks in san mateo county, including san pedro valley park in pacifica. officials are concerned about trees toppling well for safety reasons. >> it's a good thing today actually is less windy than yesterday. so we did come into the park and take a walk, but we turned around at a specific time in the north bay. >> this big tree fell saturday in downtown santa rosa on fourth street, knocking out power to some businesses and several roads in sonoma county near the russian river saw weekend flooding. firstrillionesponders say they are ready for more of the same. >> we've spent the last several days just outreaching to our community, making sure they know the potential of another round of rain, the effects of it like

police sergeant was also wounded, but is expected to survive. the horror unfolded at a home in the twin cities suburb of burnsville overnight. the gunman barricaded himself inside the home with a woman and seven children. police say he opened fire on two officers, then shot the paramedic who ran to help the downed victims. >> i need that ambulance to 33rd avenue and i need two additional ambulances. >> the dead were identified as officers paul m strand and matthew ruge, both 27 and 40 year old firefighter paramedic adam finseth. the gunman was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. new developments now in the war in the middle east. israeli strikes across gaza killed at least 18 people overnight, according to medics and witnesses, while the israeli cabinet adopted a declaration today saying israel opposes any unilateral recognition of a palestinian state. the u.s. said

where you can see. yes, it is dark and yes there is lots of precipitation. just clouding that lens. a little hard to see there. and then we also have some other cameras we do want to show you this is a look at the embarcadero. this is actually the camera that is atop the abc seven news studios, where you can see a great vantage point, but definitely some slick roads. something to keep in mind. and one more camera up here for you. this is the live look at sfo where yes, there is that sheen on the ground, but as of right now it doesn't look like the weather situation is impeding any air traffic. we will stay on top of that for you now. some scary moments off of highway 101 in northern california this weekend. this video shows rocks and trees just falling over, spilling onto the roads after the heavy rain. all of this happened in del norte county. that is near the oregon border. crews there spent the weekend cleaning up debris, and this latest downpour has also triggered an evacuation warning

for some people living in the carmel valley area. you can see the specific areas there highlighted there for you in yellow. those dots. the sheriff's office says the warning is in effect for low lying areas of the carmel river community until further notice. officials say people with large animals, they should leave now. now moving on to the sierra now, where a winter storm warning is in effect until 10 a.m. wednesday, the uc berkeley sierra snow lab says it recorded 7.5in this morning alone, and they expect another 18 to 30in of snow through wednesday afternoon. chains are required on highway 50 in el dorado county. right now, there are no chain controls on i-80. and really, if this is a taste of things to come, we are in for it. >> well, this is certainly the thing that this is what's coming in the next couple of days for sure. we're talking about maybe 2 to 4ft of snow in the higher elevations and up to a foot or more at lake level. so that's that's a pretty good storm. and we've got a pretty good storm

here right now. a rain storm that is rain and wind, as you can see on live doppler seven, the rain has expanded to cover most of the bay area and some of the steadiest activity right now, some of the heaviest is over in the east bay. just a moment ago, it was closer to oakland and emeryville and berkeley. now it's out towards orinda, moving up toward martinez, but it's the rain is blanketing the whole region, and you can see from the satellite how tightly wound the storm is. just generating wave after wave of rain into the bay area and some strong, powerful wind as well. on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level two storm for tonight and much of tomorrow. moderate heavy rainfall, winds gusting 25 to 50mph. flooding, of course, is possible under these conditions. here's the forecast animation starting at 630. and notice how strong these, uh, these areas of rainfall are with the colors in here of red and orange indicating the strongest downpours. that pattern of downpour bring drenching rain continues right up until midnight. then there's a little bit of a break going into the wee hours of the morning, but as the morning commute gets underway, more rain will follow and gusts right now up to 43mph

at sfo, 32mph here in the city, 24 at nevada all along and near the coastline. the wind gusts are quite powerful. current temperature reading 61. in san francisco and san mateo 59, oakland. low to mid 60s at hayward, san jose and 57 at half moon bay. and now the rain is getting a little bit heavier at the golden gate, and traffic is slowing down a bit as it should. 54 degrees in santa rosa right now, 50 in petaluma, napa 59 low 60s at fairfield, concord and livermore. let's take a look at our wind advisory until 4 a.m. tuesday. we expect winds to be generally out of the south, 30, 20 to 30mph, with gusts up to or maybe even exceeding 50mph. when we go to our flood watch, which is in effect for the entire bay area until wednesday morning, flooding is possible in creeks, streams, roads and low lying areas, so it covers the entire region, not just certain areas and a high surf advisory in effect until 4 a.m. tuesday. wave heights are already elevated. large breakers could reach heights of 22ft. and we're

talking about up to 28ft in those favor areas, which is where the steeper beaches are, risk of rip currents. and of course, dangerous surfing and swimming conditions. now, overnight, as the rain eases up just a little bit, overnight lows will be mainly in the low to mid 50s. highs tomorrow as the rain intensifies again, mainly in the low 60s. and as we look over in the sierra, you see the winter storm warning in effect until 10:00 wednesday morning. up to one foot of snow at lake level, 2 to 4ft at elevations of 7000ft and higher when gusts up to 50mph. uh- travel conditions are nearly impossible. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. level two storm continues into tomorrow. it eases up a bit to level one on tuesday, wednesday morning, showers still linger, so we'll give that a level one for now. but sunnier and drier weather will prevail on thursday and friday. but then the clouds increase again next saturday with another chance of rain by next sunday. >> abc seven sports is sponsored by your northern california honda dealers.
