i'm rhiannon ally and i'm andrew dymburt. >> we begin with the three firstrillionesponders shot and killed during a standoff in minnesota. >> the two police officers and a paramedic were responding to a domestic violence call. those are among the most dangerous calls for police. a vigil was held last night to honor the three men. two of them were just 27 years old. >> the other 43. the governor has ordered flags to be flown at half staff across the state this morning. a minneapolis suburb is described as heartbroken after two police officers and a firefighter were shot and killed. responding to a domestic violence call. >> we are all hurting our officers, our fire department, our families, all of our staff, our community. >> reporter the call came in early yesterday in burnsville, minnesota. an armed suspect was reported to be inside the home along with several other people, including seven children. police started negotiating with the suspect, but then things escalated. shots rang out and in

the gunfire, officers paul strand, matthew ruge and firefighter paramedic adam finseth were killed. an emotional scene as their bodies were transported in a procession. police say finseth died trying to help one of the injured officers. >> three members of our team made the ultimate sacrifice for this community. they are heroes. >> authorities say the suspect was also killed in the shootout, adding they found several guns and large amounts of ammunition inside the home. >> i can tell you at least one of the officers was shot inside of the home. the other two that were deceased were still piecing together if it was inside or outside of the home. but i can tell you that officer that took fire inside of the home and once they were outside of the home, experts say domestic disturbance calls are among the most dangerous for police representing 8.5% of the total number of officers killed in the last decade and nearly 4200 officer assaults are reported on average every year from domestic violence calls. >> as for the case in minnesota,

another police officer who was shot is expected to survive. no one else in that home was injured. >> evacuation warnings are in place in parts of california as yet another atmospheric river takes aim at the state. trees came down near san francisco, causing isolated power outages. strong winds are expected there again today. the already saturated ground is rising, raising concern about mudslides. this landslide closed u.s. 101. in northern california, some areas could get five inches of rain. we'll check your forecast in just a few moments. new details this morning about the death of vladimir putin. >> critic alexei navalny, his death in prison, now a major issue on the campaign trail with nikki haley slamming former president trump's silence on navalny's death. meanwhile, putin's military has just taken control of a key city in eastern ukraine, their biggest victory in nine months. abc's em nguyen is here now with all the latest m. good morning andrew. >> good morning. the death of alexei navalny has been met with an outpouring of public grief. but the lack of response from former president trump is

getting attention on the campaign trail over the weekend, former president trump, remaining silent on the death of vladimir putin's most outspoken critic, alexei navalny. despite making multiple public appearances since the news of navalny's death broke friday. >> i'm thrilled to be back in the american heartland. >> nikki haley taking note, accusing trump of being too friendly to putin either. >> he sides with putin and thinks it's cool that that putin killed one of his political opponents, or he just doesn't think it's that big of a deal. >> navalny was serving a prison sentence after being charged with extremism, russian prison officials claim he died from, quote, sudden death syndrome. but this morning, an independent russian newspaper reports a paramedic claims navalny's body was found with bruises to his head and chest. abc news has not confirmed that report. navalny supporters insist he was murdered. they say his mother was told that her son's body

would not be released until investigators are complete. >> so right now we don't have access to the body and we don't know for sure where it is. >> russian police have been cracking down, arresting hundreds of people across russia for trying to pay their respects to navalny. meanwhile, here at home, navalny, his death along with the fall of a key city in eastern ukraine this weekend, have added urgency to the debate over passing more u.s. aid for ukraine's war against russia. >> the bill right now sits at the feet of speaker johnson, while putin waits to see what what the us does, if anything, house republicans, including speaker mike johnson, have insisted no more aid to ukraine until security is tightened at the u.s. southern border. >> a bipartisan group of house lawmakers late last week unveiled a new $66 billion plan to fund the war in ukraine, help israel and taiwan and boost border security. but there's no word yet if speaker johnson will support it. the house is currently on a two week recess.

president biden criticized house leadership, saying a two week vacation. what are they thinking, rhiannon? all right, adam, thank you for that. >> for the first time, the us has confirmed an underwater vessel has been used by houthi rebels targeting ships in the red sea. the pentagon says the unmanned vessel was among five other targets hit by us airstrikes yesterday and later british officials say the crew of a ship in the area was forced to abandon their ship after an explosion nearby caused damage. the houthis are supported by iran, which has reportedly called for de-escalation in the area. >> celebrity pastor joel osteen got emotional yesterday during the first sunday service since a shooting at his megachurch last week. >> hey, it's so awesome to have you in the house of the lord. i'm a crowd, baby, y'all. but i can't help it. but again, you know it's not tears of sadness or fear. it's just wow, look at the goodness of our god. and he brought us through last week. >> police say janice moreno entered osteen's lakewood church

with her seven year old son and firing moreno was killed after exchanging gunfire with security staff. two other people were wounded, including moreno's son. he remains in critical condition. osteen said he's grateful moreno did not make it to the church sanctuary. we great security here and the security plan worked. >> that's why she didn't get past, you know, into that building. >> police are investigating why moreno opened fire and why she may have targeted the church. >> also in texas, new clues in the search for a missing 11 year old girl, her father's roommate is now in custody. described as a person of interest in the case. here's abc's allison kosik. >> this morning. major developments in the search for 11 year old audrey cunningham reported missing last week. north of houston. >> there's not words for it. >> authorities have arrested 42 year old don steven mcdougall on a separate assault charge, saying he's a person of interest in the search for audrey. they say he's the roommate of

audrey's father and has an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for enticing a minor in 2008. >> we are hopeful that we can bring audrey home alive, and that's what we are. absolutely working for right now. now. but based on the evidence that we've got, we understand that foul play is a factor as well. >> audrey's mother says her daughter was last seen around 7 a.m. last thursday when she was supposed to catch her school bus not far from the home. she shares with her father. she she was allegedly dropped off. >> um, at her bus stop. and later on, uh, we come to learn that she never even made it on the bus. police are now searching for this 2003 blue chevy suburban, saying it belongs to mcdougall. >> investigators also found audrey's backpack near a local dam and say other items were found, but they're not elaborating.

on the attack. it happened on a popular trail east of seattle. a woman suffered serious injuries to her face, neck and jaw, and officials say her friends saved her life by joining together to pin the animal down under a mountain bike. other cyclists are now being warned. >> pretty terrifying. i was up here on the trail yesterday, so i didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but, um, there is definitely wildlife around these parts, so you always have to be careful and aware. >> wildlife officials responded. they shot the cougar. the woman who was attacked has been released from the hospital. >> a pennsylvania judge is in custody facing attempted murder charges. police say sonya mcknight shot her ex-boyfriend in the head while he was sleeping. then she allegedly tried to convince him that he had pulled the trigger. the incident took place at his home last weekend amid the couple's bitter breakup. the man suffered permanent vision loss in one eye. investigators say they found gunshot residue on mcknight's hands. she was suspended from the bench last year for an alleged violation of judicial probation, her lawyer says. mcknight is innocent.

she's due in court next monday. >> an elderly man is accused of a string of bank robberies in chicago. authorities believe 83 year old donald bennett had. been targeting the bank since last summer, along with a younger accomplice in his 50s. in the final heist was last week. bennett was convicted of robbing multiple banks back in 1989. he was released in 2020 after serving more than 30 years in prison, and police say that is where he met his alleged accomplice. >> a big disappointment for tourists in paris today, with the eiffel tower shutting down because workers are going on strike, workers who staged a similar strike back in december say the city is underestimating the maintenance costs ahead of this summer's olympics, leaving them with a heavier workload coming up. >> what we are learning about a rally in nashville. >> also ahead, the historic three point showdown between nba star steph curry and wnba star sabrina ionescu. the comments after the competition sparking after the competition sparking controversy rsv is out there. for those 60 years and older
