determine a plan going forward. >> the future of 4th of july fireworks. some bay area cities looking at one particular alternative to the annual celebration, plus, mcdonald's fans are loving it. >> a look at the one of a kind restaurant that is gaining popularity this winter. >> okay good morning. it is tuesday, february the 20th. back to work for so many of you after that long holiday weekend. yeah i'm sure many people spent it inside because of the weather. >> totally. and now we have more downpours this morning. live doppler seven is showing you that we have some heavy rain to talk about. a lot of this is working its way through the north bay. we had some showers over the city and parts of the east bay will press in a little tighter, and you can see there's these isolated cells that contain some heavy rain this morning. and a lot of them have been moving over napa. and that's why we have a flood advisory in effect for napa, because this heavy rain is causing some localized flooding behind the showers. more more rain is developing. so we are in and out of the showers all day today. it's a level two for these downpours. the thunderstorm chances in there as well. the biggest threat we face

today is new areas of flooding thanks to these downpours. so future weather throughout the middle part of the day and into the afternoon, we'll track those downpour hours. and again, if you do hear thunder, see some lightning, you do want to move inside and wait till that storm passes. let's see how the commute is going with gloria. good morning. >> good morning. well things are back to normal today. you know, yesterday we had really light volume on the roads because of the holiday today. check this out. it is busy out there this morning. this is a live look at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. and you can see that traffic is pretty slow there. right now it's actually backed up to the foot of the maze right now. and also chp has issued a high wind advisory here. so just keep that in mind when you're driving. make sure you keep both hands on the steering wheels. and let's go to our 680 camera over in walnut creek. traffic is moving smoothly through walnut creek. no issues there, julian. >> all right. thank you so much, gloria. this morning, caltrans crews will be back out to assess the storm damage along niles canyon road in alameda county. we have a look here at a portion of the road that's been washed

away. caltrans says the roadway, which is a part of highway 84, will remain closed between old canyon road to main street in sunol. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live there this morning. lena, do you have any idea of how much longer that roadway will stay closed? well julian, chp says to expect this road to be closed for at least the next few days, while caltrans can get out here to assess the conditions and their options. >> take a look at this video. our aerial view shows part of niles canyon road west of sonoma broke off into the alameda creek . this all happened almost exactly 24 hours ago, just after 5 a.m. yesterday, caltrans is calling this a slip out from a mudslide in the area. they say it's a consequence of heavy rain affecting the roadways is when the roadway gets eroded, the ground underneath it kind of washes out. >> then the pavement slips down right? or becomes unnavigable. so we can't have people driving

on it. so that's what's going on out there right now. and we're going to need to make a repair before we can open the road all the way back up. >> crews still had one lane of this highway open doing one way traffic controls up until about 5:00 last night. that's when chp shut down both directions of the road indefinitely. caltrans crews are expected to be back here on site sometime this morning so that they they can assess the highway and figure out if and when it's safe to go back to one way traffic controls . but for now, there is still no estimated time of fully reopening this road. live in sonoma lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you so much, lena. heavy wind gusts knocked out power and downed trees across the bay area yesterday. a massive tree fell in burlingame. you see it there stomping southbound traffic along i-280. nobody was hurt, thankfully, but it did back up traffic for quite some time. >> it was very, very windy. you could see the trees swaying. there was actually sparkles and smoke coming on the on the in

the middle of the road. and so that you can see that the power lines were down p-g-and-e's eventually restored power to about 1000 customers who lost it in the area. >> as caltrans is working or as it worked, i should say to clear the roadways and there were nearly 3300 p-g-and-e's customers without electricity overnight. this is a real time map of those outages. currently, the largest outages are in the south bay, where 600 customers are impacted. in saratoga, heavy snowfall last night in the sierra. this is a live look from our lake tahoe camera at zephyr cove. it's been anywhere from blistering to quiet. the area is looking at another 1 to 2ft of snow by wednesday. difficult driving is expected through, then snow chains are required on 8-80 going over donner pass and on highway 50 from twin bridges to myers. >> get the latest forecast and track the rain anytime with our live doppler seven radar. all you have to do is search abc

>> thank you so much, gloria. at least two bay area cities are considering moving away from the typical 4th of july fireworks shows. napa and richmond officials will both be talking about independence day drone shows at their city council meetings today. got some video right here from texas based sky elements drone shows, according to the napa valley register, napa is already in talks with the company. they've already put on shows in bay area cities, including brentwood, their 4th of july festival and the alameda county fair too. looks pretty cool. those in favor of the shows say they are much more safe and sustainable than the traditional fireworks show. >> coming up, a brain implant update what founder elon musk is saying about the first person implanted with a neuralink chip and we got to talk about those controversial comments from nba commentator chuck. >> yeah, we're talking about jews getting some heat for his statements about san francisco as the city is getting ready for next year's nba all star weekend

of flooding. the reason why we're already seeing downpours developing this morning. parts of the east bay and in the north bay. we have a flood advisory already in effect for napa because we've seen heavy rain move over napa consistently this morning, leading to standing water on roads and even on our smaller streams and creeks. the wider picture showing you we have more rain developing off the coastline and some of these showers have already produced lightning, so thunderstorms are in the forecast today. it's a level two, a moderate storm for downpours. that chance of more flooding and a thunderstorm. no threat of tornadoes. today. that threat is over with, but we could see some lightning this afternoon. here's future weather . you time out some of those heavier showers by about lunchtime. again, the north bay, the coast, and then later on the afternoon, that threat shifts to the east bay and in the south bay. temperatures today in the upper 50s to lower 60s, amanda. >> all right. thanks so much, drew. coming up. beached boat at bodega bay. a look at what's left of the fishing vessel that was stuck for days and preparing for the next big one. the deadline you need to know about to apply for a retro fit grant.

>> in less than a year, the bay area will be hosting the 2025 nba all star games. the warriors shared this video to get the excitement started. basketball superfans and celebrities will be in the bay area in a big way next february. a couple of key warriors staffers spent four days in indianapolis observing operations at this year's games. in preparations for next season, showcase the 2025 all star weekend will be an opportunity for san francisco to cash in on some much needed tourism dollars. chase center cal palace and the oakland arena will be hosting the festivities all star weekend is set for february the 14th through 16th. next year, starting on valentine's day. well, a san francisco supervisor is criticizing some recent comments by a pro basketball hall of famer and nba on tnt commentator charles barkley. so during sunday's all star game in indianapolis, he took some time to bash san francisco. if you had a chance to be in cole or being around a bunch of homeless crooks in san francisco when you

bit tighter into some of these cells. when you see the deep red just crossed over highway 37 near sears point on its way into napa. that is some intense rainfall that can really add up very quickly. that's something we're watching very closely in parts of the north bay this morning as we head towards the peninsula, we have another cell that's developing. this one actually heading towards sfo this morning. and parts of south city. so we're watching these downpours this morning with more rain developing off the coastline. the wider picture you can see this cluster of cloud cover and rain and even some lightning strikes. so this does have a history of producing thunderstorms. and that is moving into our direction throughout the later morning into the afternoon. the winds are so much lighter today. we're not going to deal with those gusty winds like we did yesterday. it's a level two, a moderate storm today will track those downpours throughout the afternoon. it's just a really unsettled day. and underneath any one of these downpours we could see localized flooding because everything is just so saturated. heavy rain could cause some issues on our roads in our smaller streams and creeks. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. that's a

this rain. it's moving in our direction. so we have showers overhead right now. more rain is coming our way later on this morning into the afternoon. and this cluster of showers has a history of producing lightning to the south. we go. southern california is getting an atmospheric river. they're just going to see some flooding later on this afternoon. unfortunately here locally, those downpours have really been confined to the north bay. we're going in a little bit tighter near yountville, napa, saint helena. and when you start seeing live doppler seven with these deep reds, that is some intense rainfall falling in. some of these showers are falling over the same areas, which is leading to localized flooding. we had a downpour that moved through richmond on its way into hercules, now moving into vallejo, we have a flood advisory in effect for those showers that just continue to move over the same areas of napa. even sears point american canyon. so certainly we'll see water on our roadways and even our smaller streams and creeks could have issues. a level two today we'll have showers and scattered downpours. there is the chance of a thunderstorm today. there is no threat for tornadoes. that threat is over

with. but if you do see lightning, hear thunder, you do want to move inside. as that storm passes. and again, localized flooding is possible underneath any of these downpours later today. julian you know, thank you so much, drew. >> well, the saga of the beached fishing vessel at bodega bay is finally over. the effort to save a 57 ton fishing boat that washed aground more than a week ago has failed, and the aleutian storm was ripped apart by ferocious waves. these are images of what's left of the boat at salmon creek beach. bits and pieces of the vessel are now littering the sand there. there was hope that the crab fishing boat could have been salvaged. last friday, the coast guard ordered the operation to stop, essentially dashing those chances. a gash formed in the hull, promising compromising for the boats integrity. a deadline is coming up this week to help california homeowners prepare for the next big earthquake. you have until tomorrow to apply for a retrofit grant through the state's earthquake brace plus bolt program. homeowners in more

anticipating new areas of localized flooding today because we have downpours in the forecast. it's a level two on the abc seven storm impact scale. there's the chance of a thunderstorm but no threat of a tornado. today, that threat is over with. take a look at future weather as we head later into the day and into the afternoon. you can just see we'll be tracking those downpours. and again, underneath one of these, we could see a quick round of heavy rain leading to localized flooding. let's see how we're doing on the roads this morning with gloria. good morning. >> good morning. slick roads out there this morning. and we are continuing to follow this crash over in richmond. that's causing some delays in that area. that's a multiple car crash on westbound 80 before the el portal drive. but they have just cleared that. so traffic is moving again, but it is still moving slowly because of that crash. so that may be the case for a little bit there. that's has speeds down to about 30mph in that area. then a look at your drive times for this morning. the usual slow spot from tracy to dublin 50 minutes. so with those slick roads, give yourself a little bit more time this morning, amanda.

>> all right. thanks so much, gloria. and in the east bay, a popular route for a lot of commuters is shut down this morning after a huge chunk of the roadway washed out during the storm highway 84, also known as niles canyon road, will be closed indefinitely. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in sunol, and lena cal trans crews are expected to be back out there this morning to really assess the damage. that's right, amanda, caltrans crews are expected to be out here at some point later on this morning to figure out the next steps. >> the chp has had this highway shut down in both directions here behind me for about the past 12 hours, and now they're saying to expect this road to be closed for at least the next few days, while caltrans can come up with a plan for repairs. take a look at this. this is the reason why in aerial view shows a portion of niles canyon road cracked and slipping into the alameda creek on monday morning. this all happened a little more than 24 hours ago, around 5 a.m. yesterday, caltrans is calling

this a slip out from a mudslide in the area. they say it's a consequence of heavy rain affecting the roadways. >> there's a slide that's happened and we're doing one way traffic control in an area that's that's about from pleasanton road on highway 84 to washington boulevard. so that's sort of the area that's that's affected. we're seeing this type of thing around the bay area. this is a this is a slide at this location. >> don't expect this for just this rainfall like it's it isn't that hard right. for this rain i didn't expect any blockage here. but they were shut it. >> they were doing one way traffic control yesterday before shutting it down at 5:00 last night. we're told caltrans crews are expected to be back out here sometime later on this morning to assess the highway and figure out if and when it's safe to reopen to one way traffic controls. but there is still no estimated time of when this road will fully reopen. caltrans says locals can use palomares road to

get around this live in sunol. lena howland abc seven news okay, thank you so much, lena. >> from the damage left behind from that rain. now to the damage left behind by wind gusts of up to 53mph that hit the north bay, sending trees crashing into roads and homes. abc seven news spoke with one man in santa rosa who had a tree branch come through his roof and through the wall too. this was at an apartment near fourth street and diamond court. >> so i was sitting in my office trying to play some video games on my day off, and all of a sudden it felt like an earthquake hit my house. but from above thought that the tree had gone entirely through the wall of my house. it shook the whole house. >> yeah, thankfully he wasn't hurt in this. in sonoma county. this road in windsor was underwater. and this is how things looked on waller road near forestville. >> people in vacaville are staying prepared for extreme weather. officials are keeping an eye on hillsides for possible mudslides. the weather swung to extremes throughout the day yesterday, raining a ton one

minute, followed by pockets of blue sky and sunshine. >> i'm hoping to just skips over us. >> i have friends from out of state texting me and wishing me to be safe and to be careful in this weather because they heard that tornadoes are coming and flooding and all that. >> no one was taking any chances out at nut tree airport at this flight, school staff made sure the aircraft were all tied down >> southern california is dealing with major flooding flood warnings this morning. creeks in santa barbara county turned into river from the runoff. flooding into the airfield has closed. the santa barbara airport once again. that's the second time this has happened in just the past few weeks. in ventura county, it's mudslides that has everyone concerned. >> we're also keeping an eye on the hillsides and their saturation levels and making advisories on evacuations if necessary. >> in l.a. county, flash flood

warnings are in effect for the beverly glen area. neighbors are once again on alert in case mud starts moving downhill. >> some much needed aid will soon head to san diego after the powerful storm caused widespread flooding. fema announced a major disaster has been declared for the city after the storm. in january, governor newsom says the declaration will help support residents and businesses impacted the mayor of san diego praises the announcement, saying it will help rebuild the city. >> an alarming new report exposes a danger under several freeways in california. the out of 60 underpass storage sites statewide, just 12 past fire marshal inspections, two out of 16 sites passed in the bay area. fire marshals uncovered several fire risk and lease violations as caltrans leases leases out the space under freeways and said tenants were given 30 days to correct any problems. there inspections were spurred by that big fire in november under i-10

we're finding is that we have downpours over head right now, and now we have more showers developing off the coast and they now are producing lightning . so there's the potential that as this next wave of rain moves onshore later this morning into the afternoon, we could see some thunderstorms. let's pull in a little bit tighter. live doppler seven. it's the north bay this morning that has been seeing those downpours developing. and what is happening is a feature called training. think of railroad tracks. the showers are moving over the same regions and that's creating some flooding issues. a flood advisory is in effect for napa, sears point, american canyon. this area has seen some downpours throughout the morning and that is leading to water on roadways and even our smaller streams and creeks are having issues. winter storm warning in effect for the sierra, we're expecting about 6 to 10in of additional snow today . it's a level two for those showers and downpours, even the chance of a thunderstorm. our biggest threat is localized flooding. thanks to these downpours that will be moving through throughout the afternoon and throughout the evening. but we do have drier weather on the
