cameras caught people in san jose running for cover during a downpour in the east bay. >> the heavy rain made for treacherous driving conditions like here in pittsburgh, as well as in orinda. >> well, we are back on storm watch tonight. good evening. >> i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. fortunately, the flash flood warning in san francisco has now expired, but we're not done with the rain just yet. >> no, we have abc seven news team coverage with reporter tim johns tracking the conditions in marin county. >> but let's begin with abc seven news meteorologist sandyha patel. sandy. yeah. >> and dan and amna let's take a look at live doppler seven. because while you may want to put the umbrellas away i wouldn't do that just yet. as we take a look as where it is raining right now. we're going to get you into the north bay around windsor highway 101. old redwood highway. we are still seeing some light to moderate rain. also around antioch, heading across highway four into knightsen. watch out, there are still some slippery roads, so san francisco recorded 8000/800 of an inch per hour in terms of rainfall. at one point. that's

why they had that flash flood warning. this is looking back at what happened of course, we have so much concrete and hills that the water was just running off, and that's something to keep in mind now off the coastline here we are tracking some more showers. they're showing up just to the southwest of san francisco. still, the possibility of thunder as we look at our flood alerts. much of the bay area is covered in green. let's start with the flood watch in effect for the entire bay area until 10 a.m. tomorrow. that's because roadways, streams, and creeks will continue to see flooding. a flood warning for sonoma county until 10 p.m. tonight. they've already seen flooding and that is going to continue. now keep in mind these things are changing in terms of timing. so stay with us and obviously download our weather app as we take you back in time. low pressure system off the northern california oregon border continues to spin. it is drying up that moisture still, the potential for thunderstorms as we go hour by hour. here you will notice the rain is still continuing. downpour at times at 6:00 and then we switch over to

scattered showers tomorrow morning. continuing into the afternoon. this trend will go on into the evening hours. it is a level two and that means thunder threat continues today. downpours at times and urban flooding. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast coming up. dan okay sandhya, thanks a lot. >> now to the north bay and abc seven news reporter tim johnson is live near marin city with a look at conditions there. hi, tim. >> yeah, dan, we're standing by a freeway overpass and as sandhya just said, the rain has stopped for the time being, but it's left behind a lot of standing water here in marin county. just like in this parking lot behind me here. and fire officials here tell us that standing water like that is exactly what they worry about. when big storm systems impact our area. the north continuing to get pounded tuesday by the seemingly never ending parade of storms in sonoma county. many roads remain flooded ahead of the latest batch of rain, and one woman even having to be rescued from a stranded car in forestville, a

local high school in sebastopol, also shutting down for the day after a tree fell on top of it. typically farther south in marin county, fire officials say they've been preparing for the latest storm. she's been a constant process of evaluating what's next on the forecast, working with your meteorologists and the national weather service to see what what uh- barreling down the barreling down on on our region. battalion chief graham groneman says his department has seen an uptick in calls for service over the past few days, thanks to the bad weather. he says keeping extra staff on hand has been critical in helping them respond to everyone. >> we're looking at the potential for increased mud or debris flows, shallow landslides , small stream urban flooding events where where vehicles get trapped. >> and it's not just first responders who have been worried about the storms at shamrock building materials in san rafael, we met david, who was buying gravel and sandbags for a

>> new developments a retired pittsburgh police chief will step into command for antioch police department. former police chief brian addington has been named antioch's interim police chief. he retired from his pittsburgh role in may of 2022 after serving for nine years. he will now replace former apd police chief steven ford, who stepped down last year amid a racist texting scandal case against the police department. abington starts his new role on monday in fremont. >> a new drone, firstrillionesponder program will be integrated into a emergency calls city council approved the program to improve faster response times to emergency incidents like crimes in progress, fires, traffic accidents and reports of dangerous subjects. a remote controlled drone will launch from fixed locations throughout the city any time a 9-1-1 comes in on the dispatch, it was first explored by fremont police and fire back in 2022. this is the first joint public safety drone responder program anywhere in the country, just down the street from apple park in cupertino.

>> plans for the largest housing project to ever come to cupertino have been approved. 're lking about the former site of vallco shopping mall, abc seven news south bay reporter dusti dory explains why city leaders believe this will give the community something it desperately needs. >> this is all that remains of vallco town center after the mall officially closed nearly a decade ago, the mall acted as a community center where people could gather and meet. and now, newly approved plans by the city aims to bring back that sense of community. >> it has housing uh- it has retail, it has office space and, um, you know, i think it will it will be a hub for our civic and social activities in in a few years. when all this comes to pass, soon, this empty lot along stevens creek boulevard and wolf road will transform into on the rise. >> it's the largest housing project in cupertino's history. nearly 2700 units, including 50% affordable housing. there will be plenty of retail and office

space as well, but mayor sheila mohan says the emphasis is on giving people a place to live. >> it recognizes that uh- times have changed. the city has changed and it attempts to accommodate the changing needs of our city residents. >> we spoke with say it's about time that the land was developed. after sitting empty for so long. but not everyone is on board. >> it's important that we do something, but i think apartment complexes is they have already so many. i would probably do more like an indoor or like an outdoor space, like a park kind of thing. then apartment complexes. >> the reality is, cupertino actually needs more housing. mayor mohan says this brings the city closer to meeting housing requirements handed down by the state. >> we have to come up with 4588 units in this housing element cycle. uh, this modification, uh , plans for about 2700. so that's that's a big chunk. it's

more than 50. >> mayor mohan hopes construction can start as soon as possible, so the community can benefit from all that. the rise will offer cupertino probably one of the most exciting things to happen in our city in a while in cupertino. dustin dorsey, abc seven news, politics now your voice, your vote. >> the march fifth primary is just two weeks away from today, and that means today at midnight is the deadline to register to vote. but as abc seven news reporter zach fuentes explains, if you miss it, there are still options. there was just 15 days before the march 5th primaries. >> some people might think a primary election is not as important as a general election, but every election is important. >> it's a message officials like santa clara county registrar shannon boucher are working hard to share, even in general elections. the statewide turnout leaves much to be desired. in 2022, only 51.5% of eligible californians voted in the november election. boucher says the primaries have even more room for improvement. >> look at four years ago, in

our last presidential primary election, where only 52% of our registered voters turned out and cast their ballot. so those 52% of people made the decision for 100% of the voters. so it's important to get out. there are local races. there are state races and federal races. >> that's why she says getting eligible voters registered is a priority. ahead of march 5th. the deadline is tuesday at midnight, but in california, there are still options. if you miss it, we can do what they call condition voter registration, starting tomorrow through election day, where any voter can come down to any of our 100 plus vote centers, or they can come down to our office and they fill out a conditional voter registration. >> from there, people are given a ballot and can return it with a conditional voter registration envelope. and we will take it back to our office, enter their information and then be able to count their ballot. so it's not too late. if they don't get

registered by today. >> heading to register to vote ca.gov can not only let you register to vote, it's also where you can check your registration status, confirm your address and other details to help make sure those who can are able to vote. >> you need to get out and cast the vote to have your voice heard. you're only getting one vote, and that's how you make your voice heard in santa clara county. >> zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> with two full weeks until california's primary, a new poll from emerson college shows a shift in the senate race. adam schiff remains the front runner, but republican candidate steve garvey is now firmly in second. he has seen his support grow along with katie porter, who remains in third. oakland congresswoman barbara lee is in fourth at 9. the top two advanced to the general election in november. >> president biden is now in california for a three day campaign fundraising visit, which will include stops in the bay area. a mr. biden arrived in los angeles a short time ago, where he'll participate in two campaign receptions today and tomorrow. the president will fly to the bay area tomorrow for two

through the region. as we look at the north bay from windsor to healdsburg, across highway 101, old redwood highway, some slippery roads and san francisco. while it looks quieter than it did earlier today. hey, take a look at this. we do have some more moisture off the coast moving in the direction of sebastopol at 715, heading into santa rosa at 730 tonight. so we're not done yet for the south bay from coyote to morgan hill heading into the santa cruz mountains. we still have some steady showers, and we do have a flood warning remaining in effect in the sonoma county area until 10 p.m. tonight. the rest of the region shaded in that darker green under a flood watch until 10 a.m. tomorrow. that's because we're going to continue to see flooding on roads, streams and creeks. there is an area of low pressure that is spinning right there and that area of low pressure is just dry, tying up the moisture that is coming in from the southwest, allowing us to see with the daytime heating, those thunderstorms, rainfall so far. this is why a flash flood

warning was in effect for san francisco in just an hour. they picked up 8000/800 of an inch so far in the last 24 hours. one and a third santa rosa over an inch, about a half an inch in oakland, less than that in livermore and san jose. but half moon bay is 6900 of an inch. your temperatures right now in the 40s and the 50s. a live look from mount tam cam. you can pretty much see that we're not through yet. tonight. showers thunder chance tomorrow. scattered showers remain in the forecast. and for your thursday and friday. yeah, you get to dry out a mix of sun and clouds. i know people will be ready for that. level two for today. thunder threat. continue those downpours at times and urban flooding will remain another threat. so 530 tonight we do have those showers going through 630 still looking at pockets of light to moderate rain. we go into tomorrow morning and this is when more showers redevelop 8:00 until 11 a.m. in the north bay. and then really just scattered around in the 2:00 hour. continuing at 4 p.m. so i would just keep the umbrellas

handy if i were you. you might see a mix of sun and clouds, and then all of a sudden a downpour of additional rain anywhere from a few hundredths to about a third of an inch. wetter spots picking up up to 4/10 to a half an inch. winter weather advisory for the sierra until 10 a.m. tomorrow, 4 to 6in of snow higher amounts for the ridge tops and certainly gusty winds will make for the potential for difficult travel and delays. 30s and 40s on those temperatures tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at 50s and 60s sun clouds, a few showers. that's basically the kind of day we're looking at. the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a one for tomorrow. so we are going to downgrade the current level two to a one morning fog on thursday . filtered sunshine friday used to have that dry weather continuing partly cloudy saturday. we do have a chance of showers both sunday and monday morning, but that system is a light level one, so no need to worry. we'll dry it out for you by tuesday. so dan and i'm really looking at this is the worst part of it. through this evening. and then ■we'll go to a
