and 60s. but over the weekend we're going to see some very warm air move in here. can't wait to show you that. coming up, reggie in a few minutes. drew. >> thank you. if your phone is working right now, consider yourself lucky because breaking overnight, a major at&t outage impacted people across the country. gloria is tracking the situation at the live desk and gloria, the bay area is seeing one of the biggest impacts. >> yes, that's right reggie. you know, actually i was impacted. my phone my cell phone this morning had a big ol sos on it at home. but thankfully things are getting back to normal now. the area is reporting the most problems this morning include the bay area, la, dallas, chicago and atlanta, along with several other cities. now, people saw no service overnight or limited connection with phones displaying s.o.s. as of 4 a.m, nearly 38,000 at&t customers were reporting no service, and that was according to down detector, which tracks outages based on customers self-report issues. local law enforcement agencies sent out notices about the outage affecting emergency service

calls. san francisco fire sent out a message at 3 a.m. saying the city's 9-1-1 one center is still operational. officials also said that if you are an at&t customer and you cannot get through to 9-1-1, just try calling from a landline. and we reached out to at&t for more information. we still have not heard back. other networks like cricket, xfinity and boost mobile were also seen outages. verizon customers also reported problems, but verizon says that their service was not impacted. so the good news here it is getting better amanda. all right. >> thank you so much gloria. president biden making headlines in the bay area during a campaign event yesterday. he took aim at vladimir putin, calling him a, quote, crazy s.o.b. and criticizing donald trump. today we could hear more from him. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in los altos, where another fundraiser is set to take place today. lena >> that's right. good morning amanda, president biden will be heading here to los altos today

for his third campaign fundraiser in the bay area this week, with tickets going for as much as $100,000. a person, the president first arriving on air force one at sfo yesterday following an overnight stop in los angeles. then it was on to marine one for a quick helicopter ride to san francisco's marina green along the bay. president biden, attending at least two fundraisers in san francisco yesterday, one held at the getty mansion in pacific heights. the president was seen with nancy pelosi during some of wednesday's events and making headlines for his comments at one of the private events when he referred to russian president vladimir putin as a, quote, crazy sob. he also took aim at former president donald trump's comments, comparing himself to the russian opposition leader who died last week in an arctic prison. president biden, counting on bay area supporters to boost his campaign chest. >> we are the atm for the political world and there's a

declined to 65 students. the i-team first broke this story about human trafficking one year ago, where video showed young girls and alleged pimps near the school, the diocese says saint anthony's is facing, quote, overwhelming financial challenges despite large investments. a former school parent, rosa vargas, says families are worried about finding a safe alternate for their kids. it's really hard to get into good schools. >> it's really hard and for us parents that were that we were paying to get our kids in a safe school, it's hard because we take our our children to another school and then we were told that that they're not a gre level. >> the oakland diocese is assuring families it will help them find alternate catholic schools for their children to attend california regulators are pumping the brakes on waymo's bid to expand its operations, as the state's public utilities commission is putting waymo's

plans to expand into san mateo county and los angeles on hold until at least june. >> the puc says it needs to further review the request. one san mateo county supervisor had this critique of waymo's expansion attempts. >> they need to do a better job really communicating and i think one of the issues that we had as a county was there issue on communicating with our fire department, communicating with our sheriff. >> waymo responded to the suspension in a statement to abc seven news. it says its standard for regulators to automatically issue a suspension for further review on any advice letter, and that in 2022, its effort to provide service to san francisco was similarly suspended before eventually being approved. >> happening today, you can weigh in on a golden gate bridge toll plan that would break the $10 mark. there are four proposals the increases range from $0.35 to $0.50 per year through 2028. that includes tolls for fast track pay as you go and invoice commuters. the

golden gate bridge board of directors will hold a public hearing starting at 9 a.m. at the bridge toll plaza. if approved next month, the new tolls could begin on july first, and we're also learning more about bart's plan to redevelop the north berkeley bart station newly released renderings show double the number of buildings on the site. the plan now calls for 13 mixed use in residential buildings, with more than 700 units over half would be designated as affordable, and each building would rise between 3 and 8 floors. the plan also includes a new greenway, native plant, landscaping, common space and an activity courtyard. >> the pacifica pier is expected to partially reopen today. it's been closed since earlier this week because of high waves. city officials said last week. more closures are possible after the pier got damaged in a december storm. a structural assessment will be completed next month to determine what work needs to be done to fully repair it. after taking a beating by storms last year, capitola wharf may look a little different when it reopens

this fall. abc7 news south bay reporter dustin dorsey tells us some of the buildings are set for demolition. >> the sun may be shining, but storms are still top of mind. capitola boat and bait and the wharf house restaurant have never recovered from the damage caused by monster waves. in 2023, the city has deemed these buildings unsafe and they face demolition, devastating. >> you know, i couldn't believe we were. we had hopes that our building was able to survive and we get the news that it's being torn down. we walked off the wharf january 3rd, 2023. >> so it's been about 14 months walking off. >> did you ever think that that might be the last time? >> no. you don't think those things, but that thought may soon be reality for these longtime tenants. >> chloe woodmansee, with the city of capitola, said the damage was extensive and safety led to the difficult decision. >> our building official here at the city and our city engineer did an extensive review of the buildings. i do know there is structural damage to the foundation and some of the walls are caving in and i believe both

the buildings, bayton boat manager david morris, says the coastal commission may be able to trump the city's decision and save the structures. >> but after decades in business , it's hard for him to look to the future. what future? you know, because we can't afford, you know, a $500,000 building or $1 million building out there. >> we just can't afford that. so what future would we have if i can't get coastal commission to work with us and help us out? so what's next for the wharf? >> its future may come down to the opinions of the community. residents will get to share what they want to see on the wharf at a town hall. we got some public opinion ahead of the meeting, perhaps a bait shop, a little cafe of some kind, some place that leaves us with a destination. >> what i don't want to see happen is that there be a lot of construction happen, and trying to turn the capitol wharf into a fisherman's wharf with all kinds of little shops. >> i don't want to see them pull down the building. we don't need you now. that's that's a big joke. the wharf is on track to reopen this fall, but whether or

spent this much on food in 30 years. in 1991, consumers spent 11.4% of their income on food and today the latest data shows that figure at 11.3. egg prices were back up again. >> meat products also saw some big jumps. also uh- carbonated beverages, sodas, soda prices jumped a lot. things that we all enjoy were prices are jumping. still jumping. overall inflation has cooled in the past two years, but grocery costs are stubbornly high. >> experts blame several factors, including higher labor costs and record low cattle numbers, driving up the cost of beef and steak. >> in some cases, it's strong demand. in other cases, the limited supply other cases, weather events, uh- you know, it's a mixed range of factors that are driving the price increases. >> grocery prices rose 1.2% last month compared to the same time last year, but the cost of eating out in restaurants surging much higher by more than 5. the good news analysts expect some relief in the coming

flights between the us and israel next saturday. flights from new jersey to tel aviv will start up again. the airline suspended the route in october, when the israel-hamas war started. united says it conducted a detailed safety analysis and consulted security experts and government officials before making this decision. the airline also says it will evaluate resuming flights this fall from sfo to israel. a united airlines flight going from new jersey to los angeles was diverted to chicago after passengers say a bomb threat was found on board. authorities say all 202 passengers were evacuated at o'hare airport without their carry ons. bomb sniffing dogs then searched the plane and their bags. some passengers say they woke up in confusion as they felt the plane descend only two hours into the flight. >> the pilot was like, we're making an emergency landing at and, um, we landed and as soon as we landed, he said that somebody wrote a note in the bathroom saying that there was a

bomb on the plane. no explosives were found and no injuries are being reported. >> but a canine did match the scent on the note to a passenger's bag. investigators took them in for questioning, but it's not clear if they were arrested. the other passengers got back on board the same plane and eventually landed in lax. the irs will conduct dozens of audits starting this spring on corporate jet usage. >> the agency is cracking down on executives personal use of business aircraft who write it off as a tax expense. tax benefits can add up to tens of millions of dollars in deductions, the commissioner says. there are 10,000 corporate jets operating in the us. >> the fcc is considering a proposal for a new emergency alert like amber alerts for missing and endangered persons, not just missing children. it would help law enforcement push timely alerts to grab public attention, especially for vulnerable groups like native and indigenous women. the alert commissioner's claim could help collect more data on these cases

ruling frozen embryos are the legal equivalent of children and destroying them could be considered a crime. the alabama decision is tied to wrongful death cases where frozen embryos were accidentally destroyed at a fertility clinic. the white house saying this type of chaos was expected when the supreme court overturned roe v wade to say that every single embryo is a child is just factually incorrect. >> flies in the face of science with in vitro fertilization, families can freeze multiple embryos, bettering their chances of having a child. >> we know that there are hundreds of thousands of embryos that are discarded through the ivf process, killed and lost and as pro-lifers, we believe that that's an unethical treatment of human life. >> in a statement, a spokesperson for the medical association of alabama writes the ruling will likely lead to fewer babies. gabby and spencer say their clinic in alabama will

going to sit off the coast for a while. it's not going to impact us until early monday morning with some light shower hours. we'll take a look at the february month so far and we are in a surplus when it comes to rain. the past 22 days across the board every city is seeing more rain than normal. santa rosa close to four inches above average for the month, nearly three inches above in the city. even oakland and san jose, more than an inch above their february average up to this point in the month. but now we get a break this morning. we do have some fog in the north bay. a dense fog advisory is in effect until 10 a.m, so we start out with some cloud cover, but sunshine breaks out here pretty quickly this morning. temperatures in the 40s climbing into the 50s by about 10 a.m. looking at your sky throughout the day today. you don't need the umbrella. we haven't been able to say that since last week, so we have that north bay fog early on just giving way to bright skies. it's a partly cloudy afternoon. we'll find some cumulus clouds bubbling up, but they won't bring any rain and temperatures today are getting to near average upper 50s to the mid 60s. so taking a
