san francisco's chinese new year parade gets going with a bang. a huge crowd shows up to celebrate the year of the dragon and what is billed as the largest parade outside of asia. good evening, i'm lauren martinez. actress awkwafina was the grand marshal. our media partners at san francisco standard briefly caught up with her on the parade route. as always, this was a colorful display of culture that tapped into longtime traditions. abc seven news reporter ryan curry was right in the middle of it all, and asked people, what makes the year of the dragon

stand out? >> lighting our way into 2020 for the year of the dragon is here, and thousands came to san francisco for the annual lunar new year parade. it's a celebration, you know, a celebration indeed. float after float, each one celebrating asian culture and its deep history in san francisco. this is market and second street. this is the parade. start right here. every float, one by one, coming down this street on the way to market before they will then embark further down the parade route. and you really couldn't ask for nicer weather. beautiful sunny skies here in downtown san francisco. a perfect way to welcome in the new year. it's a great night in san francisco. >> the weather is beautiful. it can't be any better. >> a beautiful night to come together. just like steven zhang and his son. if you ask them. the year of the dragon is about exploring imagination, right? >> it's not a real like an ox or rabbit, you know? you see. right in the real life. but dragon is an imaginary asian, right? it's means it's going with your

celebrates the black experience and highlights its positive influence throughout the bay area's diverse communities. it is the centerpiece of a week of events that include finance, dinners, brunches, small business markets, and open mics for creative. yesterday, three community leaders were honored at what's called icons among us for their work to uplift communities. one honoree tells us what black joy means to them. joy is internalized. >> it comes from a part of your being that that is connected to experience. and so to be able to think of african americans coming together to celebrate the victory and the suffering as a part of who we are, is just a phenomenal idea and experience that you can experience that joy tomorrow with live entertainment and activities for the entire family. >> join zach fuentes, julian glover and ama daetz as we stream the parade live tomorrow starting at 1230. watch it

and cooler, but dry and that's ahead of a system that is going to bring us some light rain to the bay area on monday. it's a level storm one and i'll have more details on that and how much rain you can expect in your neighborhood. lauren francis, thank you. >> new at 11. three people were shot in san leandro this afternoon. two people, two of them dead, and the other is in critical condition. it happened around 3:30 p.m. at an apartment building on miramonte avenue near foothill boulevard. no word on whether any arrests have been made. the sheriff's office is investigating and says it started as a domestic dispute. also new at 11, a fire broke out at a target in vallejo this afternoon. the building, which was filled with shoppers and employees at the time, was evacuated once the alarm was triggered, firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and were able to quickly put out the fire, which was located in a corner of the store. only one

customer suffered minor injuries . the cause of the fire is still under investigation. antioch police are investigating after a teenager was shot to death. investigators found the victim, a 16 year old boy, inside of a car on the 1700 block of observation way just after five this morning. they say he had been shot at least once. officers tried to save him on the scene, but he was rushed to the hospital where he died. investigators discovered the shooting happened about two miles away on the 2000 block of. to play away. no word yet on any arrests in the south bay. elon musk is vowing to make good after tesla abruptly canceled an order with a popular pie shop that cost it thousands of dollars. today was the community showing its support for the small business in a big way? >> it's crazy. i didn't even think about that. >> i the community is giving back to the giving pies on saturday, a line of customers

stretched out the door. >> oh, i just want to support her because i felt bad that she lost a lot of money. so i just want her to know that we as a community, we will help her out. we care. news spread about what happened on valentine's day for loooooong russet marinara said tesla placed an order of 2000 mini pies, a couple days later, the tesla employee doubled the order. >> marinara said she bought ingredients and turned down other orders. when she reached out about payment for the invoice, she received a crushing text message that tesla did decided to cancel the order. >> sam and i heard that elon musk stood you up, so we thought we'd come try to pitch in, san jose mayor matt mehan and former mayor sam liccardo wanted to rally behind the small business and were pleased so many others did as well. i was really overjoyed to get here and see a line out the door into the parking lot. there's a ton of community support. this is what san jose is all about. >> rosa was overwhelmed to see the large turnout anxiety, but

the two incidents are related. weather could be a payday ahead for some california drivers. that's because of a class action lawsuit against a company that scans and sells life plate data. a trial is scheduled for may on behalf of about 23 million californians. the suit alleges that digital records mission network has violated state privacy laws meant to regulate the use of license plate readers. the court says any resident whose data was collected at least 15 times since june of 2017 will be included and well organized by fans. for fans, way to look wiget a massive crowd flocks to oakland to show its support for the a's. even though the team has its set its sights on las vegas. we'll take you to the showing of green and gold, unity and a little later, florida decides to have some fun with its reputation for bizarre headlines. the competition going on this weekend

cool down because as i show you live doppler seven, the satellite radar image, we have this area of low pressure spinning off the coast. this is going to bring us increase in clouds and cooler temperatures, and then some light rain possible. on monday, a live view though from mount tam shows these beautiful, clear conditions as we look south towards san francisco and all those pretty sparkling lights. currently it's 58, in san francisco, oakland 55, hayward 57. san jose's also 58. cooler in san mateo at 54, and half moon bay already in the upper 40s from emeryville. we're looking across the bay and in santa rosa it's 50. we're seeing some 40s elsewhere. petaluma 45, napa 49, fairfield 46, concord 52. livermore 49 degrees. so here's what you need to know. the headlines as we look from sutro down towards san francisco tomorrow. it's going to be cooler with more clouds. and then on monday, that's when we see the light showers move through the bay area, mainly south of the golden gate bridge.

then the end of next week. i want to bring your attention to that because that's when we have a colder storm and more significant rainfall. so not quite over yet, but i hope you enjoyed the nice break today. lows generally will be in the upper 40s to low 50s tonight when you wake up tomorrow morning. san francisco 50, oakland 49, san jose 48. a little cooler in some of the inland valleys like livermore, lakeport, 45 degrees. and then tomorrow afternoon, we're not going to see the 70s mostly low to mid 60s for everyone with those cooler conditions, san francisco will be six c, one oakland 63 for the black joy parade. san jose 69. that will be one of the warmest spots. so at the beaches on the cooler side, upper 50s to near 60. so the futurecast shows those clouds moving in tomorrow will be under partly cloudy skies. and then after that comes some of the rain moving in around midday and then clearing out by monday night. so rainfall amount is kind of measly. generally

under about a 10th of an inch for most spots. in fact, some areas may not get any rain at all north of the golden gate bridge in the north bay, so we're well above normal for many areas for rainfall, but oakland could still use a bit more rain. we're only at 89% of normal year to date, so here's a system that's heading our way towards the end of next week. this is a colder storm dropping in from alaska, and it's probably going to give us some rain around thursday afternoon. it will continue friday into saturday day and this will bring us anywhere from an inch to maybe an inch and a half of rain. so this is the one we'll keep an eye on. and keep you updated. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so a lovely end to our weekend. although temperatures will be coming down by about 5 to 10 degrees compared to today's highs. still enjoyable then breezy conditions with some light showers. monday afternoon. you saw how light it was, maybe

diarrhea and foodborne illness. it's often referred to as stomach flu or food poisoning, according to data from the cdc, almost 13% of norovirus tests in the western u.s. are coming back positive. well, there are more than 7000 homeless people in san francisco. it's impossible to address all of their medical needs, despite the millions of dollars the city pours into the problem. but at one clinic, doctors are doing what they can to keep this crisis from turning into a catastrophe. can their work help us build a better bay area? abc seven news reporter lyanne melendez followed a small team of doctors working in the so-called trenches when it comes to medically treating the unhoused, the unconventional has now become habitual. >> people are okay, it's okay. every friday, a small medical team from the san francisco health department comes to treat patients in this isolated bayview encampment. what do you

see out here? >> we tend to see things that we see in the clinic, but they're often more severe because they've been, like, unattended to for longer. people with more severe mental illness, more severe addiction and substance use disorders. >> and the reason you come out here, what is that? instead of them going to the clinic, there are lots of people who can't manage being inside, even for small amounts of time, who their mental illness is. >> so intense that they're too paranoid to come in. they're too weak or too ill to come in. this is a patient i've known for a long time. we're are drawing some blood and talking about some medications. we restarted doctor catherine taylor treats anyone willing to be cared for. >> it takes trust. how many days do you think in a week have you taken it? this type of homeless health care is an effective way to keep them from ending up in the emergency room. after her weekly checkup, juliana amos

spoke to us about being unhoused for the past five years. i assume that you don't interact with many people. what does it mean to you for doctors to come to you? >> um, it means a lot because i don't like going on the busses. the long bus ride, you know, down there. and sometimes i forget to come in. so it's good that they come out here. >> if they didn't exist, what would happen to you? >> uh, if i was dead. >> despite her circumstances, we couldn't help but notice how the american flag is the first thing you come across. >> we like our freedom out here, you know? so we know what's going on out there. we don't want to be stuck in sros. we are. everybody's doing their drugs and dying. >> those unhoused or living in sros are closer to the downtown area and have access to a network of outreach teams. we staff between 8 and 9 vans a

day, so 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. >> last year, in 2023, we responded to just over 11,000 calls. >> here's the outcome of their interactions with those struggling on the streets. 25% are taken to the hospital, another 25 are transported to a clinic or shelter, and the remaining 50% either don't meet the criteria for a psychiatric hold or they decline their services. when you reach out to somebody, is it frustrating when you know that person needs so much help and intervention? but they don't want it? >> yes, of course, you know, but that's the that's the thing that we do the best is building that trust, building that report. and just being consistently able and showing up because someone showed up is why joseph peterson is alive today. >> all i did was kept drinking and using drugs. so therefore, after many years of doing that, my legs started having problems complications with my legs. so

they had to amputate my feet. >> what made you decide i've had enough? >> because he kept checking on me and he was coming up there to check on me to see how i'm doing, and that helped me a lot. i said, somebody really care about me, you know, today peterson has permanent housing and helps out at the maria x martinez health resource center, a clinic dealing specifically with the unhoused population. >> this building opened a little over a year ago, so we're finding is really working for people. >> the clinic is strategic, located in the south of market area and sees between 60 and 70 patients a day. >> they can come in to see the dentist and then find out, oh, you have a psychiatrist here, and they can see the psychiatrist. the same day, all in one. >> they also offer addiction treatment. so why do you continue to volunteer here? >> because they took the time out to help me, and i don't mind helping them back. >> leon melendez, abc seven news

bay area, but some clouds will be moving in tomorrow and then bringing us a chance of rain as we enjoy this pretty view from sutro. so cooler with clouds tomorrow, monday. very light showers moving in through the forecast and then we need to pay attention to this next storm. it's coming at the end of next week. this one's colder coming in from alaska heading straight to the bay area. temperatures tomorrow morning will be in the upper 40s to low 50s around the bay for the most part. and then we'll be cooling down compared to today's numbers. so no more 70s will generally be in the low to mid 60s, closer to normal, but about 5 to 10 degrees cooler compared to today. and then on monday, generally less than a 10th of an inch around the golden gate bridge or south of the golden gate bridge. i should say tuesday. there could be a frost advisory for the north bay. it will be dry, but a chilly start. we've got a couple days of dry days and then that wet weather for next weekend. much cooler to okay. >> francis, thank you so much.
