>> we are back with these shocking images out of detroit. tuesday afternoon's blast sent glass flying through a neighborhood, and three children in a neighboring home also suffered cuts from the shards. firefighters say the home is a total loss. of course, you can see that from these images. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. >> the city of san francisco has taken the first step in its effort to atone for institutional racism. officials have issued an official resolution apology to black americans and their descendants for institutional discrimination . the city's board of supervisors says the move is the start of its promise to issue reparations and advisory committee has proposed that every eligible black adult receive a $5 million lump sum cash payment. >> san francisco flagship downtown macy's store is among 150 of the company's locations that are set to close. the plan is for the company to now focus on its more upscale stores, opening 15 new bloomingdale's and 30 new bluemercury locations . that's makeup and skin care.

michigan handing decisive wins to both president biden and former president trump. >> biden picked up more than 80% of the vote among democrats, 13% checked off uncommitted in protest of his handling of the war in gaza, and dean phillips got 3% and 68% of the republican primary voters went with trump, while nikki haley won 27. >> abc's lana moise has the latest. >> this morning, a wild card in the michigan primary. >> tens of thousands of democrats instead of voting for president, biden chose to cast their ballots as uncommitted, many of them arab american voters who say biden has been too lenient on israel in its war with hamas amid a growing civil death toll in gaza. they've made it into a thing by putting resources, putting energy into it and highlighting that there's a way to register disappointment with policy, a movement to secure uncommitted votes, vastly exceeded expectations. >> if he doesn't change his ways, i most likely won't. i won't vote for him. >> the question now will this primary protest vote in michigan threaten biden in the general

election? >> that's not the democrats who said, look, they'd rather have this problem in february where there's time to patch things up and make sure that people are heard. then in october or november, in michigan's republican primary, former president trump winning another landslide. >> but nikki haley is vowing to stay in the race through super tuesday. >> what i am saying to my republican party family is we are in a ship with a hole in it, and we can either go down with the ship and watch the country go socialist left, or we can see that we need to take the life raft and move in a new direction . >> as for trump, he's already focusing on the general election , where michigan will once again be a crucial battleground. >> donald trump won it by about 11,000 votes, and then four years later, uh, joe biden won by about 150,000 votes. so if we're talking about a number of uncommitted votes, that's 100,000 plus 100 or approaching 150,000, that at least on paper, is enough to swing a state. >> analysts also questioned

whether trump could take advantage of this uncommitted vote among arab americans in michigan, given that trump has vowed to bring back a travel ban on people coming from majority muslim countries, that is something that he faced a lot of backlash for in his presidency. >> and some of the leaders of that protest vote movement for uncommitted said they wanted to get about 70,000, and they got over that. >> well, well, i think the initial was around ten, but but clearly they're making their voices heard. we'll have to see how the candidates respond to be interesting to hear how president biden responds to this. >> definitely. >> thank you, lionel. thank you so much. and speaking of gaza, temporary cease fire remains elusive after president biden said he was hoping for a deal by this coming monday, a senior israeli official said prime minister benjamin netanyahu was surprised by biden's remark, and a hamas spokesperson said the group has not formally received any new proposals. meanwhile, the un is warning that more than 575,000 people in gaza are one step away from famine. that's one fourth of the population.

>> senior congressional leaders who met with president biden say they are optimistic about averting a government shutdown, with a deadline now just two days away. but far right house republicans are demanding that democrats agree to a long list of conservative policy changes, and there's no progress on aid to ukraine. house speaker mike johnson says border security must come first, even though he blocked the bipartisan border bill. >> fast moving wildfires in texas and the southern plains have forced the evacuation of several communities. the flames have already destroyed an unknown number of homes and other structures, and forced the facility that assembles and takes apart u.s. atomic weapons to pause operations. one fire has quadrupled in size in just 24 hours. meanwhile, a strong storm system that caused damage outside of chicago is now moving east. accuweather melissa konstanzer has the details. good morning melissa, and drew. >> good morning. we're talking about the threat for severe weather across some of the ohio river valley into the appalachian, with the chance for damaging winds. there will be

heavy rain too, with these thunderstorms starting off the morning fairly active as we get through the afternoon and evening, you can see these thunderstorms blister up in a line and push their way on through. later on this evening things will die down as the storms move offshore behind it, though, plenty of cold air. just look at the temperature change in a place like albany, 45 degrees from the mid 60s in the afternoon to the lower 20s. andrew rhiannon. >> melissa, thank you for that. the apparent murder of a pregnant woman has stunned an amish community in western pennsylvania. authorities say the woman was just 23 years old. rebecca byler, her husband, found her body on monday inside of a home about 30 miles south of erie. police have not said how she died, but they her death has been ruled a homicide. an autopsy is now underway. police don't have any suspects, so far, but neighbors are still in disbelief. a bunch of good people. >> everyone seems to get along with them. everybody's just stunned. nobody could even imagine that this kind of stuff is going on. >> we're just a very tight knit

community and i'm just just absolutely heartbroken that this has happened. authorities say two children were inside that home when byler was killed, but they were not hurt. >> there are lingering questions about a death in the extended british royal family. 45 year old thomas kingston was found dead on sunday. he was married to the daughter of the late queen elizabeth's first cousin. no cause was announced, but a palace statement says there were or are no suspicious circumstances and no other parties involved. meanwhile, it's unclear why prince william was forced to cancel an engagement yesterday for what was called a personal matter. later, the palace made clear williams cancellation was not connected to kensington death or the health of his father. the king, who is currently battling cancer. >> we love a good real estate story here on world news now, especially when it involves an entire island pumpkin key 26 acres of florida goodness. >> just a ten minute helicopter ride from south beach. when the chopper arrives, it will land on
