sunday, march third. i'm stephanie sierra. lisa is tracking the latest with this storm. we get to see the sun again. the sun? yeah. >> what is that 39 to 52. are the current temperatures. so certainly cold. our frost advisory has expired for sonoma and napa. but we'll do that again overnight. tonight there's a look at the rain. it continues to move in across the peninsula and the east bay this morning looking at seaport boulevard san carlos also beach park boulevard, some moderate showers. and down further to the south from pescadero to la honda and boulder creek in the santa cruz mountains. some moderate downpours. mount hamilton a little bit of snow there and up to the north bay. we have some rain from boyes hot springs and middletown, where the snow was accumulating with those low snow levels, showers, downpours, those snowy peaks and gusty winds on the docket today. and you'll notice throughout the afternoon we have a chance of rain right on through the day. so it's going to be kind of hit

visibility up here on the summit to get over uh- into nevada or from nevada, over into california. >> yeah, it's pretty bad. chain controls are also required if you're traveling on highway 50. the blizzard warning issued by the national weather service has been extended to 4 a.m. on monday. all right, here's another reason not to drive there. this is what it looks like for people who live in truckee. video overnight shows those whipping winds blowing snow all over the place as the snow continues to pile up. and this morning, people who are from the bay area. but in the sierra right now are hunkering down and waiting to get home. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard spoke to some of them who say the snow piled up fast on interstate 80 in the northern california area and sierra nevada is closed from colfax to the nevada state line due to spinouts. >> interstate 80 remained closed saturday afternoon over donner summit. the winter storms slamming the sierra with rare

open ski resorts like palisades tahoe were closed saturday due to severe weather and an unbelievable wind gusts overnight on top. >> siberia ridge, which is the top part of our mountain. we were reaching wind uh- up to 190mph, which is, you know, i'm pretty sure it's hurricane force winds. we're obviously going to be seeing a lot of this today. >> my neighbors are, uh, digging out retired abc seven news photographer randy davis lives in truckee, where the snow is being measured in feet. i'm walking on the deck in over two feet of powder. light snow, very light snow. but there's a significant amount of it. we filled our cars up with gas. not that we're going to go anywhere for. it looks like it's going to be a while before anyone gets out of town. >> cornell, bernard abc seven news new. >> this morning, heavenly ski resort is expected to delay opening the slopes today. that opening time is estimated for 10

a.m. now, if the weather permits, heavenly is still planning to hold its big air show featuring a pro skier and rider stunt show, along with a party today, the resort recorded about 38in of fresh snow overnight and check this out. this is video coming from sugar bowl. people there can't even get through the door. can you imagine? this is a situation where you just send the picture. no caption needed. the resort says it got 35in of snow within the last 24 hours, and this morning we're learning sugar bowl is open, but expect significant delays because of that heavy snowfall back here in the bay area. warming shelters are open across the region as the rain and cold temperatures continue. abc seven news reporter ryan curry explains how this service saves lives. >> fresh food and cupcakes for the dozen people who checked into the alameda warming shelter saturday. for some, it's either spend the night here or possibly spend it outside. where would you be if you didn't have a

place like this to stay tonight? >> honestly, i don't know. >> it's a vital resource, one that allows them to avoid potentially dangerous weather conditions, fulfilling, nurturing. >> um, deprives me of being cold . >> and christ episcopal church in alameda teamed up with the city and other churches to provide a place for the city's unhoused population. christ church used to only offer a space like this a couple times a week. during the winter months, but with the last two years seeing intense storms, they expanded this year they're operating until march 14th, a space where they can be cared for, get food, um, feel connected to the greater community and hopefully get some more resources to lead them towards paths for housing. the bay area is once again enduring another strong storm, this one bringing intense winds and high surf along the coast. >> that's why we stay away. but look at it from afar and cold air. >> it is expected to drop below

40 degrees in some spots. one of those spots is sonoma, where the city also opened up a warming shelter. >> we realized the cold temperatures, especially with the wind chill, um, in the early mornings, both last night and tomorrow. so, um, warranted us doing something for our most vulnerable population. >> because for those staying in these shelters, there is a comfort knowing they can stay safe. >> it means a lot to me. it's like all most opening a key to a door to your own apartment, but it's not yours. but almost like that. >> safety in the east bay ryan curry, abc seven news. >> the storm also left behind a mess at san francisco national cemetery in the presidio, a 50 foot eucalyptus tree fell onto several gravesites. it also landed on a water main, causing it to break. a tree trimming company and san francisco firefighters did clean up the damage. a tree coming down overnight in pleasanton. chp says it's blocking foothill drive south of castlewood drive. it also looks like a utility pole fell down along with it.

afternoon from the embarcadere and will go down market street, ending at city hall. mayor london breed, state senator scott wiener and sheryl sandberg will take part in a rally after this march. continuing our storm coverage this morning, the snow is piling up in the sierra. take a look. this is a live camera atop heavenly mountain resort, and you can barely see those trees. but the snow there is covering up half their size. we're also learning that the blizzard warning in this area has been extended to 4 a.m. monday morning. lisa is tracking the impacts of this level. one storm we're seeing here. closer to home. and is it about time we see some sun, right? >> i know, i know, i you know, a lot of people like the rain. that's great. there'll be more. but i know a couple people around here want some sun. so yeah, we'll be focused on the break late in the week. there will be breaks in between this system and what we're expecting late on tuesday, but not enough to get too excited about because

as you look at live doppler seven, you can still see the moisture rotating in, especially on the peninsula there. and as we go in cser highway 101 up in the north bay around penngrove yountville, you've had some snow and this is all coming to an end. we had a snow on top of mount diablo, just a light dusting. san francisco, you've got wet weather through the bay view, brisbane and further to the south around boulder creek. looking at some moderate downpours. saratoga so light to moderate showers throughout the day today. higher elevations will see a rain snow mix. hayward 8-80 in fremont little wet weather for you as we look at emeryville right now it is cloudy, upper 40s oakland, san francisco, 50, in hayward and half moon bay. but the blue sky here, the golden gate bridge looks pretty nice. 44 santa rosa, 51, in fairfield and a dramatic view from mount tam. so scattered showers on tap today could see a few downpours for your monday. will be mainly dry. we could see an isolated shower here into tuesday. we're mainly

dry late tuesday into wednesday we get more rain and then we're sunny wednesday afternoon. thursday and friday. hour by hour. the showers continue to rotate through throughout the day. today it's a cold and breezy afternoon. that's your monday. cloudy skies and then tuesday the bulk of the day is dry. rain is offshore. our rainfall amounts today very light anywhere from a couple of hundreds to perhaps a 10th up in napa. as we get towards the wind profile, it's breezy, 30 mile an hour winds throughout the afternoon and highs will be below average just in the 50s today. so with that rain feeling pretty damp out there, a winter storm warning through monday, 6 to 12 additional inches of snow could be 18in at the crest. winds at 45 miles an hour, 100 mile an hour. wind ridge tops and we'll see 1 to 2ft of snow right on through tuesday. so that second system that brings us the wet weather, it's going to bring more snow into the mountains. mid 50s in oakland, a breezy afternoon, upper 50s in san jose. and the accuweather seven day forecast level one system today a break tomorrow
