francisco is elevating sisterhood. >> abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> we definitely thought, you know, maybe there was a little too much hype at first. we went from 0 to 100 pretty fast. rare blizzard conditions are pounding the sierra, closing roads and ski resorts, and the snow keeps coming. >> thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. let's get the latest on what has been a brutal forecast. abc seven weather anchor spencer christian is tracking the snow and the rain. and spencer, we see all of those colors on the radar there. how long is this going to last? well, it's beginning to wind down a bit right now, j.r, but we have a few more hours of this stormy weather left. let's take a look at live doppler seven again. and we just had some downpours drenching rain over in the east bay along 580 from around castro valley and dublin out to livermore. that's winding down now, but the steadiest and heaviest rain currently showing up is in the santa cruz

mountains, moving over towards saratoga, cupertino, campbell and san jose. so that area is getting a bit of a drenching right now. but as you can see, this is not a blanket widespread storm for the entire bay area. and there's not much developing offshore right now, so it may be easing up a bit as we go into the late night hours. on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. this is a level one storm through tonight. we'll see more periods of showers, some brief downpours and snow on our higher peaks. of course, and gusty wind at times. but there are some brighter days ahead. i'll tell you about that in my accuweather forecast. a little bit later j.r. spencer thank you so much. we love brighter days. that system that's creating blizzard conditions in tahoe is bringing us rain, wind and downright cold temperatures here in the bay area. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live in sonoma, where an emergency shelter is opened to help people stay safe. cornell yeah. >> jr near freezing temperatures expected here tonight. that is why this emergency shelter right over here will be opening shortly, providing a warm, safe,

dry place for those who may be experiencing homelessness. meanwhile, up in the sierra, that epic blizzard is not over yet. fierce blizzard conditions creating a snowmageddon in the high sierra this weekend with high winds and heavy snow, whiteout conditions, and hurricane force winds unfolding at the top of donner summit, where some stranded drivers had to be rescued by chp off interstate 80, in both directions remain closed sunday afternoon. >> guys, chp truckee out here. so i just wanted to say thank you for your patience. we're trying to get this roadway open, as you can tell, a little bit of snowfall here on highway 50. >> caltrans says a snow slide on echo summit trapped several cars and closed the road for about 30 minutes. luckily, no one hurt. >> oh my gosh, it's so windy. wow >> bay area resident renee adelman is riding out the blizzard in south lake tahoe, where wind and blowing snow has been relentless node all day. yesterday

>> and then today we woke up to about a foot and a half of fresh snow. >> my neighbor's house is. the snow is almost up to the top of their their doorways, but many roads are still too dangerous for travel. >> this skier had the right idea to get around on venice drive. check out the unreal conditions at the gondola station at palisades tahoe. this resort had to close on sunday. heavenly resort was opened and look how many skiers showed up to enjoy some fresh powder. after digging out. could take a while. kevin dupuis was trying to clear a path in truckee but not having much luck, started trying to blow this snow blower, but i might have broken it so me and my buddies are trying to fix it and get it running in the bay area. no snow, but cold temperatures are a concern in the sonoma valley for unhoused folks. this emergency warming shelter is now open. unfortunately, here in the city of sonoma and in the valley sonoma valley, we don't have permanent uh- uh- winter

shelters. >> and so we've establish a, um, emergency winter shelter that we can open as needed. yeah >> and the shelter is scheduled to open here in about 45 minutes. it will close tomorrow morning about 8:00. and the chp still asking drivers to uh- delay any trips to tahoe because it is still too hazardous out there. you saw the video. we're live in sonoma tonight. cornell. bernard abc seven news cornell. >> thank you so much. that blizzard that cornell showed us hitting the sierra has forced several ski resorts to close today. you saw some of the images there with conditions just too dangerous. palisades tahoe, sierra at tahoe, homewood and mount rose ski resort are all closed today. several other resorts have a limited number of lifts open. resorts are reporting anywhere from 4 to 6ft of new snow over the past three days. now a look at the roads in the sierra. many are buried under snow. chains are required

kamala harris is set to meet with israeli minister benny gantz tomorrow, also at the white house. they're expected to discuss a ceasefire and hostage releases along with ways to increase aid. a celebration today of asian women at the iconic ferry building in san francisco. the nonprofit asians are strong led the women's history month event. they honored women in the aapi community for their strength and obstacles they've overcome. today's activities include cultural performances, guest speakers, live music, and aapi women focused resources, the group's co-founder says this event was all about conquering challenges together. >> i very much like why we are doing this event, you know, spotlighting asian women, creating this empowerment, a movement, how we can uplift each other and encourage each other to chase our own dreams. >> asians are strong works to empower individuals to take action and strive towards the elimination of hate crimes and

times. here's a forecast animation starting at 7 p.m. notice by nine 10:00 tonight. how widely scattered and light the showers will be, and the system will just start winding down overnight, but there will still be some showers lingering into tomorrow morning, so it's not quite over yet. rainfall totals, though, will be minimal about 8/500 of an inch or lower for most locations between now and 11 p.m. meanwhile, in the sierra, blizzard, warning remains in effect until midnight, and after that it's going to be a winter storm warning. so still a severe conditions there with snow just piling up and powerful wind gusts back here in the bay area right now we have breezy conditions, but no strong gusts, and it's a degree or two warmer than it was last night at this time. here's the look at the current temperature reading, starting with san francisco where it's 51. oakland also 51 and low 50s in hayward, san jose , san mateo, and half moon bay. oh, beautiful western sky right now. the view from emeryville 46 degrees right now at santa rosa mid to upper 40s. also at petaluma, napa, fairfield,

livermore, concord, 50 degrees. and these are our forecast headlines. we'll see occasional showers tonight through tomorrow tuesday light rain and showers a little wetter than tomorrow will be. but after that we'll start to clear out a little bit on wednesday and wednesday through friday, we'll be looking at sunnier, drier and milder conditions for the bay area. nothing mild in the north bay overnight, though. a frost advisory once again will be in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. temperatures dropping down to about 35 degrees. most other locations in the bay area will be not quite so chilly tonight. upper 30s in the inland east bay and then low 40s. just about everywhere else will be the low temperature overnight. highs tomorrow under cloudy skies with a little downpour. not not even a downpour, but a shower here and there. upper 50s tomorrow. so another relatively cool day. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. now tuesday wednesday level one storm activity wednesday mainly in the morning hours. we'll have those lingering showers, but impactful enough to rank level one on the storm impact scale, then sunny uh- thursday and friday. sunny
