start with a look at our weather. >> drew. yeah it really is incredible what happened in the sierra. >> that snowstorm is wrapping up. that blizzard warning is done here locally. we have a couple of isolated showers, one crossing into the east bay, moving through san leandro right now. another isolated shower in the santa cruz mountains are just on the tail end of our weekend storm in the sierra. the snow is wrapping up, but we are dealing with feet of fresh powder. that's why crews have had a hard time clearing a lot of this snow. updated snowfall totals will come this morning, but some areas have close to 90in of new snow out of this storm. back here at home, it's cold out there this morning. frost advisories are posted. we're starting out in the 30s and in the 40s. we'll keep that chance of an isolated shower in this morning into the afternoon. it's all about the cloud cover and those cool temperatures. only in the 50s. let's see how the commute is going. gloria good morning. >> good morning slick roads this morning. there could be showers when you're driving as well. this is a live look outside from our bay bridge toll plaza camera. it's getting really busy

out there this morning. metering lights flipped on at 530. right now the backup is to the 880 overcrossing and also chp has issued a high wind advisory for the bay bridge. and looking here at our 680 camera in walnut creek, you can see traffic is a little sluggish. heading southbound to highway 24, but no major delays or incidents there, guys. all right. >> thanks, gloria. and we want to get back to that breaking news out of the north bay. there continues to be a large police presence at multiple locations in santa rosa. police have shut down stony point road between bellevue avenue and todd road. they say todd road between stony point road and moorland avenue will also be closed indefinitely . abc seven news reporter lena howland is there. and lena, what have you learned? >> amanda, we're still waiting to hear from officials about what happened here overnight. but what we do know is that there are at least two different scenes set up right now, which has shut down multiple roads in this area. the first one is right here behind me here at standish avenue and sutton

place. i want to go now to a look at the scene taken just after 1230 near todd road between moorland and standish avenue. this has shut down multiple roads in this area indefinitely. you can see a heavy law enforcement presence out there working through the night. and also working through some heavy rain. we also saw a second scene near the area of stony point road, just north of todd road and butler avenue. it's not clear how the two scenes are connected just yet, and while no injuries have been reported so far, we also saw quite a few police cars staging outside of the santa rosa memorial hospital overnight. that includes a number of deputies from the sonoma county sheriff's office and officers from the santa rosa police department. we've also learned that the sonoma county sheriff's office will be the lead agency on this incident, instead of the sonoma in stead of the santa rosa police department. we have reached out to them for some more information, but we are still waiting to hear back at this hour. for now, reporting live in santa rosa. lena howland

abc seven news. >> thank you lena. happening now. interstate 80in the sierra is closed this morning as caltrans continues to clear the roads after the blizzard this weekend. so here's what it looks like right now along i-80, a 70 mile stretch of the road has been closed for days because of the intense winds and snowfall. caltrans crews have been working to get i-80 cleared, but they have faced a big hurdle. officials say only eight of their 30 snowblowers are working right now. white out conditions near donner summit. stranded drivers who had to be rescued yesterday. many roads in and around lake tahoe are still too dangerous to travel on. some ski resorts remain closed yesterday as residents started to dig out their homes, and that could take a while. snowed all day yesterday and then today we woke up to. about a foot and of fresh snow. >> my neighbor's house is. the snow is almost up to the top of their their doorways started trying to blow the snow blower,

but i might have broken it. >> so me and my buddies are trying to fix it and get it running. >> the chp is still urging drivers to delay trips to tahoe because of these hazardous conditions. >> your voice, your vote. today is the final push to super tuesday. former president donald trump is leading the republican race in all 15 states and territories, where delegates are up for grabs. tomorrow and gloria, nikki haley has just notched her first victory. >> good morning amanda. nikki haley is projected to win the republican primary in washington, d.c, and it is historic. haley is the first woman to ever win a republican presidential primary or caucus. her win comes after losses in idaho, michigan and missouri. dc is one of the heaviest democratic jurisdictions in the country, only about 23,000 republicans are registered to vote in the city, which has a population of more than 700,000. haley is now refused to pledge to endorse former president donald trump should he become the nominee. >> i think i've thrown out the

idea that they think i'm running for vice president. that's not happening. if this was about my political career, i would have been out a long time ago. >> the former president barely mentioned haley over the weekend on the campaign trail, but through a spokesperson, trump sarkar congratulated her on being named, quote, queen of the swamp by the lobbyists and dc insiders. trump is likely to pick up several hundred republican delegates when voters head to the polls tomorrow. reggie >> thank you. gloria. the us supreme court could rule today if donald trump can be kicked off the ballot in colorado. trump is challenging a groundbreaking decision by the colorado supreme court. it ruled he is disqualified from being president again and ineligible for the state's primary because of the constitution's insurrectionist clause and his involvement in january 6th. illinois and maine have also barred trump from their primary ballots, but those decisions are on hold pending the outcome of this colorado case. >> polls will open in california

in just about 24 hours. in, the bay area is playing an important role in the final push to super tuesday, democratic representatives adam schiff and katie porter both held events in san francisco yesterday, hoping to secure additional support. the latest polls show schiff, in a statistical tie with republican steve garvey. katie porter is trailing both. >> we have a handful of billionaires who are literally spending millions to try to prevent me from getting to the senate. why would they do that? it's because they don't want someone who's going to address the income inequality that we see in this country. they don't want someone who's going to stand up for workers and consumers. we have reached out to steve garvey's campaign and they declined to comment. >> the top two candidates after tomorrow's primary advanced to november. that means if two democrats win, the seat is guaranteed to remain blue. if a republican and democrat win, it could mean millions more in campaign spending for the rest of the year. the other candidate in the race for senate, barbara

flowing from an active volcano. this is the galapagos islands. official say the volcano started erupting over the weekend and could be its largest eruption since 2020. the volcanic activity has not posed a risk to humans because that island is an uninhabited. however, several animal species are threatened. galapagos is definitely on my list. it's something i want to see in this lifetime. >> yeah, i mean, this is just really incredible to see all that lava flowing. what a neat video this morning we had a lot of pictures coming in from the sierra this weekend because of the blizzard. here's a look at some of the latest snowfall totals. these are from yesterday. we'll get fresh numbers as folks go out there and measure this morning. but areas like soda springs, sugar bowl more than 80in of snow, more than 60in at palisades tahoe, and the sierra snow lab. we also saw a decent amount of rain here in the past three days. san francisco more than an inch and a half of rain. oakland more than an inch close to half of an inch in san jose. more than two inches in danville. so it's been an active pattern.

of the white house. according to abc news. they're expected to further discuss a cease fire deal calling for hostage releases, along with ways to increase aid over the weekend, vice president harris doubled down on the administration's call for a cease fire. >> this would allow us to build something more enduring to ensure israel is secure and to respect the right of the palestinian people to dignity, freedom and self-determination. >> the biden administration has said israel had, quote, basically accepted a six week cease fire proposal in gaza. those talks fell apart after hamas rejected a demand to provide a list of israeli hostages who are still alive. still, all of this talk of a possible cease fire has once again brought this issue front and center in the bay area. yesterday, we saw people gathering in san francisco to protest anti semitism that included a march to city hall, where organizers held a rally.

organizers say it's a response to escalating acts against the jewish community throughout northern california. nearly 30% of the san francisco hate crimes in 2023 targeted the jewish community. >> this has been a 260% increase from. 2022. >> on saturday, there was a pro-palestinian protest in the city. it ended with some tense moments between san francisco police and the demonstrators. new developments boeing and alaska airlines are now facing a $1 billion lawsuit for its blown door plug incident from earlier this year. the suit includes three plaintiffs who were sitting close to the door plug when it flew out mid-flight. two of them are a couple from portland. they were sitting just two rows diagonally behind where it happened. >> we could see it clearly from where we were sitting. i was dozing off when it happened and all all of a sudden we just hear a loud pop. the couple was on the flight from portland, orange

everyone in the team's dugout to stand during the national anthem . melvin says the decision is more about letting the other team know that the black and orange is ready to play. he adds, the same rules apply during his time as manager with the a's and the padres. melvin occasionally cracked down if he noticed a lack of participation during the national anthem. he says the team is embraced, basing the policy change a new concern this morning for people living with sleep apnea. a new study has found it clean. it could lead to memory and thinking problems. sleep apnea is a disorder that causes people to stop and restart breathing while they sleep. researchers with boston medical center followed 4300 people for the study. about a quarter of participants had sleep apnea symptoms, and a third of those people reported brain issues. doctors say the study highlights the need for early screening and treatment. fast food chain in-n-out is setting its sights on a new state. a local

newspaper in washington called the columbian is reporting on in-n-out's application plans in the city of ridgefield. it's near the washington, oregon border. in an out opened its first location in idaho in december. the california based chain has more than 400 locations across calif, oregon, nevada, utah, colorado, arizona and texas. next, at 630, waymo gets the okay. the use of those robo taxis is set to expand outside the city of san francisco. then a new investigation into that missing malaysia airlines flight, nearly ten years after it disappeared. as we head to break, here's a live look outside. it is 627. we'll check in with drew in just a few

live now at 630. >> new information about that breaking news in santa rosa. what we just learned about sheriff's deputies involved in an overnight shooting that has closed down several roads, then the search is on for a group of masked men who got out of a car in monterey county, opened fire at a party, then drove away after killing four people. >> i had some big trouble for san francisco schools, a new report finds. >> they may have to close some campuses as enrollment declines by thousands. >> good morning everyone. it is monday, march 4th. thank you so much for joining us. we'll get to all that. >> of course. we've been talking a lot about the blizzard over the weekend. more snow now in the sierra today. >> yes. so the blizzard warning is over. and now a new winter storm warning will kick in. we still have some leftover showers from our weekend system here locally. just 1 or 2 crossing the bay area. these will last the last 90 minutes. then they're done. so it's not an all day affair now. the snow is wrapping up with the blizzard, but a new storm moves in here later today. could see 4 to 9in

of additional snow. not a big impact, but it could slow the cleanup process from that weekend blizzard back here at home. it is cold, 30s and 40s. we have frost advisories in effect, so we have a lot of cloud cover out there and isolated shower early on, giving way to just cloudy skies and cool numbers this afternoon. gloria, we're only going into the 50s for daytime highs. >> all right. that's good to hear. drew we are tracking a crash right now in san pablo. so we're going to show you a map. show you exactly where this is happening. this is over on westbound 80 before san pablo avenue. this is a two car crash. and right now, one lane is blocked. speeds are down to 57mph. so not super slow yet, but it is causing some delays in this area. we expect that to continue until they do clear this crash. so we'll keep an eye on this for you and a look at your drive times for this morning. from tracy to castro valley that is going to take you 67 minutes. so some delays right there, reggie. >> thanks, gloria. new information now about breaking

news. we're following in the north bay. four sheriff's deputies were hurt in an overnight incident that left one person dead this morning. several roads are closed as a result. this is happening in santaosa. police say stony point road between bellevue avenue and todd road will be closed indefinitely. todd road between stony point road and moorland avenue is also being impacted. let's go live to abc7 news reporter lena howland with the information that we just got in the past 15 minutes, lena. reggie we have just learned from the sonoma county sheriff's office that a total of four deputies have been injured after they were involved in a shooting and a chase with a suspect and that has also left behind two different police scenes, like this one spanned out within minutes of each other here in santa rosa. >> now, the sheriff's office says this all started after deputies responded to a person waving a rifle just after midnight. they say after deputies found the male suspect that person led them on a chase and started firing shots at deputies. during the chase, the

sheriff's office says deputies returned fire and the suspect crashed the vehicle he was driving. he was pronounced dead on scene. we also saw quite a few police cars staging outside of this santa rosa memorial hospital overnight. out of the four deputies that were injured, we were told that one has a gunshot wound to the leg, two have injuries to their hands and one deputy has a head injury. we're told the deputy with a head injury is in critical condition but stable. the sheriff's office says that the santa rosa police department will actually be taking over this investigation, per their critical incident protocol. obviously, there's much more to come on this and we are working to talk to somebody with the sheriff's office in the next hour live in santa rosa. lena howland abc seven news. all right. >> thank you so much, lena. developing news from monterey county. the search is underway for a group of masked men who police say killed four people and shot three others. it happened yesterday at an outdoor

party in king city. police say a group of masked men pulled up in a silver car, got out and started shooting. they got back in the car and drove away and still have not been caught. three men died at the scene and a woman ended up dying at the hospital. king city is about 100 miles south of san jose. >> now to the blizzard that dumped feet of snow across the sierra ■nevada over the weekend. part of the lake of the lake tahoe area still a snowed in and they're going to get more snow. interstate 80 is closed. abc news reporter faith abubey is in truckee. this morning. and good morning to you guys. >> thousands here in the sierra nevada mountains are bracing themselves for yet another round of snow, even as they are reeling from those blizzard conditions over the weekend. we're here in the downtown area of truckee, where there's just so much snow. the city workers are telling us they're just piling them up wherever they can . homeowners waking up to giant walls of snow blocking their windows and doors. >> i could barely open the door. it was waist deep to get out of the house.

>> more than seven feet of snow falling in some areas over three days. i'm not going to lie, i'm from new york, so i'm used to snow. >> but this has this is different. >> hundreds of drivers trapped on interstate 80 for hours. >> we had a bunch of people that were stuck and they couldn't get out, or they were scared to leave, and it was just kind of that perfect storm. literal and figuratively. >> officers going vehicle to vehicle, checking on stranded drivers, among them a mother and her newborn baby who ran out of gas. >> we just selected to transport her and the baby off of the mountain down to a warming center here in truckee, and leave her car on the freeway. >> even some emergency vehicles and tow trucks unable to handle the brutal conditions. >> i was the rescuer. now i'm going to be the rescued. >> and a change of weather in texas could help crews battle the largest wildfire in the state's history. cooler temperatures and lighter winds are expected this morning through tuesday. since starting a week ago, this smokehouse

creek fire has left a charred landscape dead cattle and has destroyed as many as 500 buildings, including homes. at least two people have now died. >> texas in the panhandle had a higher than average rain over the winter, and so there's a lot more grass, which we consider fuel. that's what's going to burn. >> the wildfire has burned more than 1 million acres and is now stretching north into parts of oklahoma. >> happening today, groups looking to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price say they'll turn the required signatures to election officials in oakland, the chronicle reports. save alameda for everyone and supporters of recall pamela price together intend to submit about 123,000 recall signatures. they needed to collect 73,000 to trigger a recall election. organizers of the recall efforts say price is soft on crime. those working to keep her in office characterized the attempt as an undemocratic effort to unseat an elected official. so far, supporters

have raised $2 million in funding. this recall. >> some public schools in san francisco could close within the next two years, according to the chronicle. san francisco unified school superintendent matt wayne outlined a plan to address the loss of about 10,000 students that plan could force an undisclosed number of schools to close by fall of 2025. wayne says there are no specific schools being targeted for now. the new plan comes as the district is addressing several issues, including a massive budget shortfall and replacing a faulty payroll system. >> the city of san francisco hasn't given up on trying to get pandas to the zoo. our media partners at the sf standard report, mayor london breed, asked chinese president xi jinping about the situation again last week, this time, she was joined by a list of chinese american leaders who cosigned her letter. if china were to agree to send pandas here, habitat construction is expected to cost tens of millions of dollars. as we reported before, it looks like san diego is going
