good. after eating all those big macs. who would have thought? >> well, happy election day. >> i hope that you have filled this out because it takes a while. it does? yeah. so if you haven't, start now, please start now and look who's back. welcome back. yay! >> welcome back. >> thank you for checking on me all as well for supporting my family. so thank you for all your notes. but i'm back. she's back. >> happy to be back. she's ready. >> she's ready. and today we have good for cast for the primary. today we'll go outside. here's a live look at live doppler seven. we will find just a couple of light pocket of drizzle. you can see along the coast and in the north bay. what we have here is a stationary front just to our north. and that's the focus of a lot of the shower activity. well to the north of us. but at times today parts of the north bay, northern sonoma, northern napa county may get brushed by some isolated drizzle for most of us, it's just a mostly cloudy day out there, temperatures not nearly as cold as we were yesterday. now, frost advisory is in effect. for the most part, we're

in the upper 40s to the lower 50s. as we get you out the door. so take a look at the forecast today. we'll keep a lot of that cloud cover around some pockets of drizzle. again the best chance of that in the north bay just a mostly cloudy day a little bit warmer than we were yesterday. upper 50s to the mid 60s for daytime highs. let's see how the commute is going with gloria. good morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. so far the commute is going good. this is our map of the roads here in the bay area. you'll see mostly green which means no major incidents, no major delays. other than from tracy to dublin, which we always see. that's the slow spot. however if you do take bart, we have a ten minute delay right now. this is in the sfo, millbrae and daly city directions, and this is because of police activity. so again, ten minute delay. there and then overall trains are going to be running at slower speeds because of the wet weather. >> kumasi thanks, gloria. today is california's primary election. and candidates are making their final pitches to voters. one of the big races that we are keeping an eye on is the u.s. senate race. there are

four big names vying to win the seat, long held by the late senator from san francisco, dianne feinstein. it's currently being held by senator laphonza butler, but she is not running to keep the job. abc seven news reporter amanda delcastillo joining us with more on the candidates and their campaigns. amanda. yeah. kumasi >> it's crunch time for the prominent four after california's open senate seat. they're working overtime and across the state with two slots on the november ballot at stake. the four candidates include democratic reps. barbara lee, katie porter and adam schiff, and first time candidate republican former baseball great steve garvey all recently made stops in southern california. latest polls show schiff and garvey running neck and neck at 25 and 27, respectively. porter is trailing with 19, followed by lee with 8. a republican hasn't won a senate race in the state since 1988, and a reminder, regardless of party, california. puts all candidates on one primary ballot. the two who get the most votes advance to the

general election. >> we make sure that that, uh, that one time first baseman in, uh, who is now playing in deep, deep, deep, far, far right field never gets anywhere near the us senate. are you ready to win this thing? >> i'm really not running against my opponents. i'm running for the people of california. uh, what they do is, is their business. uh, but. but if mr. schiff wants me, um, he can have me. so to speak. >> we feel like it's a very close race. we've seen the polling go up and down. low turnout elections are tough to poll because we just have a lot of people who usually come out, are staying home. >> turning to oakland, congresswoman barbara lee, she has served the east bay as a u.s. representative since 1998. lee was in la on sunday, she told reporters that california voters should be concerned and that for the first time in 30 years, the state may not have a female senator. referencing the importance of rep. presentation.

now, there's no question the race to fill the seat signals a new era in california politics. the late senator dianne feinstein held the seat for three decades. i'm live in studio this morning. amanda delcastillo abc seven news. >> amanda, thank you. people in 15 states head to the polls today, including california, of course. and as for the republicans, donald trump has a commanding lead in the polls nationwide heading into today. gloria, the big question is whether trump will sweep today or if nikki haley will be able to make her mark. >> that's right, reggie, the latest polling from abc news partner fivethirtyeight shows trump leading by at least 37 points in each of the 15 states holding primaries today. it appears as though trump is on the verge of clinching his third republican presidential nomination. today's election comes just a day after the unanimous supreme court ruling. the justices rejected colorado's attempts to remove the former president from state gop ballots. the ruling also ended similar efforts in illinois and maine, both trump and haley applauding the decision. you

cannot take somebody out of a race. >> the voters can take the person out of the race very quickly, but but a court shouldn't be doing that. >> we don't ever want some elected official in a state or anybody else saying who can and can't be on a ballot. look i'll defeat donald trump fair and square, but i want him on that ballot now as for today, haley has no events scheduled. >> she's expected to watch tonight's primary results privately at home. it's not clear what she plans to do after super tuesday. haley has been facing growing pressure to drop out of the race, so far. she has refused. kumasi. >> thank you gloria. governor newsom was in san francisco promoting proposition one, which he sees as a solution to homelessness and drug addiction. this $6 billion bond measure would build treatment facilities and permanent housing across the state for people with mental health and addiction issues. the measure had broad support, but that support has waned in recent polls and a group of opponents

even interrupted newsom during an event yesterday to demand from our communities no. >> on prop one, not on prop one. >> all of us can agree, including people that may feel differently about this initiative. the status quo is not acceptable. >> some mental health providers have come out against prop one because it would divert local funds to the state, leaving counties with less money for mental health services. as nearly 90% of california voters haven't returned their ballots, according to our media partners at the mercury news, today could be a record low for voter turnout in a state primary. >> overall turnout for the last primary election in 2022 was 33. excuse me percent. the state's all time low was the 2012 primary at just 31. this year could come in much lower than that in the bay area between nine and 15% of ballots have been turned in so far, and stay with abc seven news for our election night coverage tonight. our full team of reporters and experts are fanning out across the bay area to keep an eye on

the races that matter to you. as the results come in, our coverage of the california primary election starts at 9 p.m. we stream anywhere you watch abc7 news bay area online at abc7 news.com, and on your abc7 news app. >> a live look now at our lake tahoe camera at zephyr cove. new data from the state shows the snowpack after last weekend's blizzard is now 104% of normal for this time of year. the storm forced a large portion of interstate 80 to close for a few days before it reopened yesterday afternoon. former abc seven news reporter laura anthony was able to make her way home to the reno area. >> i honestly don't see a lot of just passenger cars with chains. i saw many, many dozens of big rigs lined up along interstate. 80 below the chain controls, i guess waiting to go through caltrans has done an amazing job of clearing this freeway. i thought it was going to be a lot worse. >> the mess on i-80 left more than 300 vehicles stranded, and

some drivers had to be rescued. i've never seen that many cars stuck on the side of the road, so we lended a hand, pushed a few, helped to shovel. now because of the intense snow flurries, caltrans said it was down to just eight functioning snow blowers as of it's 30. in that area, you can track the weather conditions anytime with the abc seven bay area app, you can access the same live doppler seven radar that our weather team uses to search abc seven bay area in your devices app store and download it now. >> we'll take a look at live doppler seven. we did have a winter storm warning in effect for the sierra that has been dropped early. part of the reason why most of the snow is now falling north of blue canyon . you can see 80 and 50, a couple of snow flurries, but the heaviest snow falling around quincy this morning back here at home locally, we have a couple of pockets of drizzle. we'll go into the north bay first. you can see as they move on shore into marin county, as they work their way into sonoma and napa

county, they're really falling apart, but nonetheless, as you're driving 101, especially through marin county this morning, you'll likely find some pockets of very light drizzle. similar story along the coast. we're watching this line of drizzle. it's falling apart as it approaches land. we'll keep our eyes on this, but we could see a quick hitting drizzle spot over. the city in the minutes. that's just the day we're featuring the best chance of those pockets of drizzle are in the north bay. for most of us, it's just a day of mostly cloudy skies, some peeks of sunshine here and there into the afternoon. a little bit warmer than yesterday. we'll have some areas in the east bay in the south bay getting into the 60s for daytime highs. so a lot of cloud cover today. some pockets of drizzle, peeks of sunshine. the further south you are. we'll hit 65 in san jose, 61 in oakland only 59 in santa rosa, 61 in the city. now tomorrow we have a better chance of finding showers. it's a level one. but then thursday we dry out in the sunshine. is back. we'll take a closer look at wednesday's system coming up in about eight minutes. reggie drew thank you. >> more store closures after san francisco's troubled downtown mall rebranded. two more stores

filings from the la innocence project, the legal nonprofit is looking for dozens of items of evidence they say could not be located. after reviewing the trial files from peterson's previous council. it's believed the hearing will be in response to the request for those items. peterson was convicted of killing his wife and unborn son in 2004. he was originally sentenced to death, but was later resentenced to life in prison. the innocence project is trying to get peterson a new trial and says new evidence will exonerate him. >> two more stores are pulling out of san francisco's emporium center, according to the san francisco business times. times beauty brands loccitane and

sephora, both closing stores. loccitane has already shut its doors and san francisco based sephora plans to close that location in the former westfield westfield center by mid-april, all in the east bay. >> crucial road access could be lost for an entire neighborhood in the oakland hills. a portion of tunnel road is collapsing in slow motion into a landslide. the street is crumbling away, ready to cave in. this is something residents have been complaining to the city of oakland about for seven years. the city has just been putting up sandbags and tarps, but this is the second round of tarps in this storm season, and they're already washing away. >> and we can see that there's continued erosion underneath the tarps. it's worse. it's getting worse. even the last week it's gotten much worse. residents tell us they're afraid of getting stranded in their homes, not to mention the lack of access for emergency vehicles. >> the city of oakland says it plans to implement a permanent repair estimated at $850,000.

>> these two movies never really competed with each other. they kind of parallel like, find their way to enormous success. >> this barbie making $1.4 billion worldwide and oppenheimer's three hour long movie grossing $957 million. the two big budget hollywood films went on to complimentary success , but now they find themselves head to head in a number of oscar categories. oppenheimer leads the oscars with 13 nominations. i think picture and director locked up for oppenheimer and its director, christopher nolan, likely to just just dominate the night. barbie with eight nods. both films are contenders for best picture, best adapted screenplay, best supporting actor and best supporting actress. emily blunt in oppenheimer and america ferrera for barbie. >> it wasn't a movie for little girls playing with barbie dolls. it was for all of us men, women, young, old, around the world. and that that's not an easy or

all stuck in the 50s today with that front moving through it brings in a little bit warmer air. so low to mid 60s in our warmest spots. later on today. now tonight we'll keep the cloud cover, the pockets of drizzle and numbers in the 40s heading into tomorrow afternoon. it's a level one for scattered showers. even the chance of a thunderstorm. here's future weather showing you by two, three, 4 p.m. there you can see that chance of a shower as that low pressure moves south. rainfall totals again, not a lot of rain. where we do find those showers, we're talking less than a quarter of an inch for wednesday. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. after wednesday. sunshine is back. it's looking quite lovely. thursday and friday. over the weekend, clouds roll back in here. our clocks go forward one hour. our next best chance of rain is on monday. gloria >> all right, well, it's starting to get busy out there on the roads this morning. we have a live look from our emeryville camera, and you can see the traffic starting to build up here from highway four to the toll plaza. it will take you about 18 minutes right now, but there are no blocking issues

voice. your vote today is election day. and one, one of the questions voters will answer who's going to succeed? long time congresswoman anna eshoo. it is a hot race. eshoo is retiring and not running for reelection in california's 16th congressional district. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in menlo park, where voters will be casting their ballots this morning. lena >> hey, reggie. here on the peninsula and in the south bay for the first time in more than 30 years, voters will have the opportunity to pick a new congress member representing the 16th district. and there is a long list of candidates vying for the seat. four have raised the most funds, according to opensecrets.org. as of the last report on february 14th, newcomer peter dixon raised more than $2.7 million, followed by former san jose mayor sam liccardo. state assemblyman evan low and santa clara county supervisor joe simitian. dixon is a tech entrepreneur and marine corps veteran. though he has raised the most money, he's never held office before, something he says gives him an

curry, abc seven news today marks two weeks since a cyber attack targeted a major health insurer. >> it has paralyzed some hospitals, doctors offices, pharmacies as well. and gloria reports are coming out that the company may have paid a large ransom to the hackers. >> in this case. good morning. kumasi. it appears as though insurer unitedhealth group may have paid the hacker group responsible for the attack. the group, known as black hat, was allegedly paid $22 million in ransom money. that's according to experts. since the attack, thousands of smaller pharmacies have been facing major disruptions as pharmacists are sometimes unable to fulfill prescriptions and they cannot verify insurance coverage. there >> targeting the health care industry because they know that people patients they are especially vulnerable. they these these organizations are in a position where they cannot wait too long before they have to pay a ransom. united health has not confirmed the payment, but an analytical firm estimates

camera. we're dealing with mostly cloudy skies up above. we'll take you to tahoe where the winter storm warning has been dropped. earlier, early. it was supposed to last until tomorrow morning, but you can clearly see the heaviest snow now falling north around quincy. blue canyon, some flurries right now, some flurries on 50 around kirkwood. but the heaviest snow is pretty much over for the sierra back here at home. live doppler seven. we have a line of just some drizzle that's moving onshore. it's all associated with a stationary front. well, to our north there's no organized showers today. it's just mostly cloudy and some pockets of drizzle from time to time. and the commuter forecast this morning shows you those chances of drizzle. they're very low. just 10% a lot of cloud cover today and temperatures slowly climbing through the 50s as we go later into the morning. here's future weather showing you that chance of some drizzle by 11 a.m. more into the upper 50s. it's a warmer afternoon today. we'll get areas into the low and mid 60s for daytime highs, so look at the forecast region by region. a lot of cloud cover, some sunshine here and there. but all in all we'll find
