of our forecast with drew. >> yeah. so we do have a chance to eat rainbows today. we have a couple of isolated showers this morning and then into the evening. so here's a live look outside. it is dry from sutro tower but live doppler seven. we do have a front moving through the south bay this morning. so areas like san jose, milpitas right now we are seeing just a line of some light showers working through your neighborhood right now. pretty light in nature and these will last for about the next 30 to 45 minutes as this front passes through for most of us, we're dealing with mostly cloudy skies, a little bit of fog in the north bay this morning. temperatures. you're waking up to the 40s and into the 50s. we're going to have a lot of different skies today. in the morning it's partly sunny out there as one front moves through here. the middle part of the day, we actually get a lot of sunshine breaking out, but then into the afternoon another front arrives and that will bring some evening showers. later on tonight it is a level one light storm on the storm impact scale. we'll take a closer look at the timing coming up in a few minutes. let's see how the roads are doing this morning. good morning guys.

>> all right thank you drew taking a look right now. there is a solo car crash on southbound 8-80 right before 16th avenue, it's blocking a lane. so if you're headed that way, expect some minor delays. of course, we'll give you an update on this as the morning goes on. now to breaking news. highway patrol investigating a fatal hit and run that involves a pedestrian in san francisco. it happened on westbound 80 near the fifth street off ramp. the lanes have since reopened. we learned the pedestrian died at the scene. the driver took off and has not been caught yet. troopers are asking for any potential witnesses. >> happening today, a jewish students at uc berkeley are planning to march to protest what they say is the university's failure to respond to anti-semitic incidents on campus. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is here to explain how one professor is raising awareness. 24 hours a day. good morning. >> the professor is vowing to stay in his campus office until university officials take action against anti-semitism. on campus. he says recent violent events prompted the sit in action. uc berkeley professor ron hassner has set up a

mattress in his small office, teaching all his classes on zoom, and he's keeping the light on. the political science professor is staging a sleep in protest to help prevent violence between students. he says he'll be there 24 over seven until the university takes steps to address anti-semitism on campus. last month, the university condemned a demonstration by activists who surrounded zellerbach hall, where a pro-israel advocate was speaking . the professor says many students have faced harassment. >> they're facing, bullies who are anti-semitic. in addition to being anti-israel, i decided to engage in a very quiet non aggressive, peaceful form of protest. i dragged a mattress into my office. >> in a statement, the university says the administration is committed to confronting anti-semitism and hold professor hassner in great esteem. and it is in

conversation with him about his concerns. and today, jewish students are planning a march to, quote, liberate the gate where activists have blocked passage for weeks. a student says that the message is that jewish students have a right to be present and safe on campus, just like anyone else, and abc seven reached out to several pro-palestinian groups on campus, they declined our interview request. kumasi >> thank you gloria. pro-palestinian rallies blocked streets outside of the oscars. hundreds of protesters took over hollywood boulevard, just blocks from the dolby theater, to demonstrate against the current humanitarian crisis in gaza. many with palestinian flags demanded an end to the israel-hamas war. that protest also spilled into the red carpet, and on the award stage, several attendees, including best song winners billie eilish and finneas, wore pins for gaza. >> now to the actual awards and a show to remember. >> yes, tonight had tear jerking speeches, award upsets and a lot

of laughs. abc seven news reporter luz pena is in los angeles with the biggest moments, from the red carpet interviews to the actual show. >> it was a great night at the oscars, with oppenheimer dominating this year's academy awards. oppenheimer has 13 nominations. oppenheimer became the biggest winner of the night, taking seven academy awards, including the coveted best picture. >> thank you so much, best director for christopher nolan. >> but to know that you think that i'm a meaningful part of it means the world to me. thank you very much. >> best actor for cillian murphy, who played j. robert oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb. a set of wins that put to rest the competition between oppenheimer and barbie, which won one of its eight nominations. ryan gosling lit up the oscars stage with the best energy, performing the oscar nominated song i'm just ken, with the medley handed by

the oscars were also a night of first time nominees. on the red carpet, we caught up with bay area filmmaker sean loooooong. did you ever think your documentary was going to end up nominated and you were going to be here tonight? >> no. you know, i think we made something really special. we as we were shooting, as we were editing, we knew that we made something that we love that i think would be would honor them and their joy, their humanity. >> his now famous grandmothers from his documentary nanny on weibo, said they received a hollywood treatment ahead of the oscars. your bay area celebrities and now you're in hollywood. hello >> thank you. >> we're so proud of our grandson. >> bay area oscar nominated filmmaker leo chang was proud to be nominated for his documentary island. in between, being on the red carpet was part of the dream. exciting. >> and i think it's everything i thought it would be and then some. >> we also caught up with dave

and mark have special access with the winners at 9 a.m. live at the dolby theater. it's all here on abc seven news, the company hoping to build a massive new city in solano county, is trying to ease concern from local residents. >> california forever is releasing a new tv ad this week, explaining why they think a huge plot of land near travis air force base is the perfect place for their city. they claim in part, it's because the land is, quote, some of the worst for agriculture in solano county land where for years and years nothing much has been able to grow. >> until now. eastern solano county, where a new community can rise. >> this new ad features new renderings of the plan. it also claims it would create 20,000 new homes in the area between travis air force base and rio vista, and thousands of new jobs. the project has to be approved by solano county voters in november. >> oakland police need your help to find a missing man with dementia. it's 87 year old fu sheng yee. he was last seen around 830 yesterday morning in

the area of 38th avenue, a few blocks from cesar chavez park. he was wearing a tan sweat suit. his family says he likes to travel around oakland and san leandro, including chinatown. the eastmont transit station and bayfair mall. please call oakland police if you've seen him. >> one year ago today, a levee breach caused a devastating flood of a farm worker community and monterey county, and that area is still trying to recover. that breach flooded more than 200 homes in pah'-ha-row. our media partner, the bay area news group, is reporting that flood victims received more than $10 million in aid, with 5 million more still available in state funding. residents filed a lawsuit accusing the county of negligence last november, federal and local officials moved forward with a nearly $600 million levee fix. >> 509 on this monday, we'll take you to our oakland airport camera live. look, you can see the taxiways are wet this morning. we have a line of showers that is moving through

mainly in the south bay this morning. here's live doppler seven. the front that is really just falling apart still bring some light showers. part of the santa cruz mountains, part of the south bay. for the rest of us, we're just dealing with mostly cloudy skies and a little bit of fog in the north bay. so here's one front we're tracking this morning. it's quickly getting out of here. so much of the day is going to be quiet. but this next front to our north this will swing through here later on tonight and bring us some evening rain showers. so this morning we have an early chance during the commute in the south bay of finding a shower. then about 7 a.m. we're dry. it's a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning. brighter skies as we approach midday. here's future weather showing you those clouds breaking down for more sunshine around lunchtime. and then the reverse happens in the afternoon. clouds will roll back in here ahead of that rain, arriving later on this evening, likely after 7 p.m. we're in for our next round as that front moves through here. it's a level one this evening for light rain. low rainfall totals and the winds. not that breezy. 15 to 25mph. so it's a minor impact system. we're tracking this evening.

americans are waking up to warnings this morning on the east coast. >> strong winds are cranking up as a powerful storm is moving out. here's abc news reporter lionel moses with more from new york. >> this morning, a deadly storm wreaking havoc on the east coast. more than 55 million people are under wind alerts in the northeast. these beachfront streets in new hampshire transformed into canals. farther north on mount washington, a woman was killed after falling 600ft due to icy conditions on the slopes. the state has seen the warmest winter on record, and experts say that was a factor in those icy conditions. >> so it was warm. we had some rain. it was a wet snow pack which temperatures dropped and it got cold and it froze and became kind of a firm surface. >> in the south, a tornado tore through southeast georgia, winds up to 130mph, ripping apart homes, leaving twisted piles of metal and mangled trees in its path. sometime between 2 and 3:00, we had a tornado that came

shadow successfully hatched an eaglet, which was later named spirit. now, on saturday, an expert with the organization that hosts the bald eagle camera said one of the three eggs laid back in january was no longer viable to hatch. the group hasn't given any other updates, but the incubation period for bald eagle bald eagle eggs is 35 to 38 days, which means the other two eggs are now past viability as well. >> we're getting a look at new video showing a stunning sight across san francisco. look at this. a red rainbow taken tuesday morning. the photographer said he caught it on camera as a band of rain was moving in. he timed it to catch the rainbow right over the bay bridge and the city skyline, he said. the light peeking in lasted for exactly four minutes. how do we miss this? >> it looks like the end of the rainbow is right over us. >> it does. we're right there. >> right there in it. you know why all those camera views are behind us? oh my. >> oh, that's a beautiful. that was pretty. >> how nice i know.

>> what's the day looking like. >> very similar actually. you may have a chance to see some this morning. let's go outside. san jose is one of the spots we're tracking. just a few light showers out there. this morning. and this is the area that is seeing much of the rainfall currently. here's live doppler seven. it's a surface front that's currently passing through about the southern third of the region. for a lot of us, it's just mostly cloudy out there. we have some fog in the north bay and we'll find another front moving through here this evening that will bring widespread rain back into the forecast. 30s in our coldest spots right now. upper 40s, lower 50s around the bay shoreline. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. the wider picture that surface front moving through right now, but another one behind it. this one will arrive later on tonight for some evening rain. it's a level one for this evening rain. it's light in nature, less than a half of an inch of rainfall. and the winds not an issue at all. a little breezy, but not intense by any means. so here's future weather. midday today. noon sunshine breaks back out. it's pretty nice around lunchtime. those clouds will fill back in this afternoon. then 7 p.m. here

are in control, said this weekend that it has no more room for surrender dogs. it's asking people to postpone surrendering dogs as long as possible, at least until today. the shelter says the majority of dogs are there because of legal matters. animal care and control can't adopt or foster them out and they have no choice but to hold them. skiers and snowboarders have been rushing to the sierra after the tahoe area received a good dumping of snow. people hit the slopes of boreal over the weekend to get ahead of the crowd. palisades is also open after the blizzard forced the resort to shut down last week.
