today. there's that sunny break midday. then we turn cloudy once again in the afternoon, and then widespread rain returns this evening. it's a level one this evening for light rain and low rainfall totals will go hour by hour in future weather. coming up in a few minutes and show you the storm. guys. kumasi >> all righty. thank you. drew. breaking overnight. we are learning that highway patrol is investigating a two car crash right now. there is the crash right there. you can see on our map northbound 101 before oakland road. of course, we will get update on that at the moment. now, this is a deadly hit and run that is being investigated right now by highway patrol involving a pedestrian in san francisco. it happened on westbound 80 near the fifth street offramp before 2:00 this morning. the lanes have since reopened. the pedestrian died at the scene. the driver took off has not been caught yet. troopers are asking for any potential witnesses. >> happening today, jewish students at uc berkeley are planning to march to protest

what they say is the university's failure to respond to anti-semitic incidents on campus. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here to explain how one professor is raising awareness. 24 hours a day. >> good morning, reggie, the professor says that he'll stay in his campus office until university officials take action against anti-semitism on campus. he says recent violent events prompted the sit in action. uc berkeley professor ron hassner has set up a mattress in his office, teaching all his classes on zoom, and he's keeping the light on the political science professor is staging a sleep in protest to help prevent violence between students. he says he will be there 24 over seven until the university takes steps to address anti-semitism on campus. last month, the university condemned a demonstration by activists who surrounded zellerbach hall, where a pro-israel advocate was speaking. but the professor says more needs to be done. he says

many students have faced harassment and they're facing uh- bullies who are anti-semitic. >> in addition to being anti-israel. i decided to engage in a very quiet, non-aggressive, peaceful form of protest. i dragged a mattress into my office. >> in a statement, the university says the administration is committed to confronting anti-semitism and holds professor hassner in great esteem. and it is in conversation with him about his concerns. and today, jewish students are planning a march to, quote, liberate the gate, where activists have blocked passage for weeks. a student says the message is that jewish students have a right to be on campus, present and safe, just like anybody else. and abc seven reached out to several pro-palestinian groups on campus. they declined our interview requests. and of course, we'll stay on top of this story for you. kumasi. >> thank you. gloria. pro-palestinian rallies blocked streets outside the oscars.

hundreds of protesters took over hollywood boulevard, just blocks from the dolby theater, to demonstrate against the current humanitarian crisis in gaza, many with palestinian flags demanded an end to the israel-hamas war. that protest also spilled onto the red carpet and on the award stage, several attendees, including best song winners billie eilish and finneas, were pins for gaza. >> it's speaking of the oscars, there's another big production waiting in the wings. kelly ripa and mark consuelos are hosting their special after the oscars show. both of the hosts pull an all nighter, putting the show together, i get in my bathrobe and my fuzzy slippers and i walk. i shuffle down the hallway from my, you know, hotel room to the production office, which is a suite of hotel rooms. we chose and selected cultural moments throughout academy award history . >> viewers at home. we'll get to sharing the excitement with kelly and mark later this morning. our coverage of the

96th annual academy awards continues throughout the morning . in a few minutes, luz pena will join us live from la at seven. gma keeps things rolling with more highlights and backstage interviews with the stars. and then as i mentioned, kelly and mark have that special that starts at 9 a.m. and it's all right here on abc seven. >> the company hoping to build a massive new city in solano county, is trying to ease concern from local residents. california forever is releasing a new tv ad this week, explaining why they think a huge plot of land near travis air force base is the perfect place for their city. they claim. in part, it's because the land is, quote, some of the worst for agriculture in solano county land where for years and years nothing much has been able to grow. >> until now. eastern solano county, where a new community can rise. >> the new ad features new renderings of the plan. it also claims it would create 20,000 new homes in the area between travis air force base and rio vista, and thousands of new

jobs. the project has to be approved by solano county voters in november. >> oakland police need your help to find a missing man with dementia. he is 87 year old fu-sheng li ye. he was last seen around 830 yesterday morning in the area of 38th avenue, a few blocks from cesar chavez park. he was wearing a tan sweat suit. his family says he likes to travel around oakland and san leandro, including chinatown, the eastmont transit station and bayfair mall. please call oakland police if you've seen him. one year ago today, breach caused the devastating flooding of a farm worker community in monterey county, and the area continues to recover. the breach flooded more than 200 homes in pah'-ha-roe. our media partner, the bay area news group, reports that flood victims received more than $10 million in aid, with 5 million more still available in state funds. residents filed a lawsuit accusing the county of negligence in november, federal and local officials moved

won best actress for her role in poor things. and we are so of our filmmakers from the bay area who were nominated for an oscar this year. and i don't know if you can hear this about 2000 audience members inside the live with kelly and mark after the oscars show. we'll have more on that later on live in los angeles. luz pena, abc seven news. >> yes, this is lucy's first time covering the oscars. >> kumasi has also covered the oscars. so i'm curious, louis, from your perspective of, you know, what was the highlight for you? what was the most interesting part? >> you know, i honestly love the speeches, but i also thought it was very, interesting how al pacino announced best picture. everybody was like, what is happening? and you could see how the dolby theater crew were just moving around like, wait, did he just announces, was he not going to mention the other? the other nominees? so i thought that was really peculiar. but overall it was an incredible night being on

the red carpet. it was so much fun meeting so many nominees, being there for obviously our bay area nominees. it was so great to see them there and live their dream. that was super exciting. >> now i remember screaming at denzel washington and he just kept walking. he was like, hey girl, leave me alone now. was there anybody that you were really trying to like get them to talk to you? did it work? did it not work? >> okay. so i got to tell you guys something. so this is actually my third time at the oscars. my first time was in college. >> third time this was it. >> so my first time was when i was in college and i won an oscar competition with mtv. i got to come to the oscars and one of the first, yeah, i won. i one of my first interviews was with mark ruffalo. so seeing him again yesterday was super cool, and he didn't stop for an interview, but i just shouted and i said, hey, do you think this is your year? and he's like, yes, i hope it's my year. but as we know, it wasn't so we're hoping for the best. well,

don't want to be photographed are not in the area where the photographers are taking pictures of the nominees and the celebrities. so that was new this year, which i thought was super interesting because you know, obviously you notice every time you go to these award shows, there's a lot of people around the nominees or the celebrities and they're in the middle of those shots. so this time around, the oscars, a place like this, like passage, this like walk through. so the pr crew were just hiding behind this wall and you wouldn't see them, and you just see the celebrities or the nominees taking their photos. yeah, that was pretty cool. >> yeah, it's like a secret passageway for the unseen. >> yes. the people that don't want to be seen. no, no no no tunnel. you tunnel like. yeah. that's right. >> i don't want to be. yeah, yeah. they're like i don't want to be photographed. let's just go through there. so yeah they had a chance to do that this year. >> it was great talking to you for the third time. she's covering this time okay. that makes a lot of sense because i saw a lot of videos where, like, couples were reuniting at the end. i was like, what is happening? yeah, now that makes

checked out. no serious injuries were reported. the airline says the plane had taken off from sydney and landed as scheduled at auckland airport. >> authorities are trying to find out what led to a shooting on the bay bridge. that left a person hurt, and it shut down nearly all lanes. police say a woman was shot while heading eastbound toward yerba buena island around 830 saturday night. so this is video of the victim's car. police say the suspects fired multiple shots at the car while it was going through a tunnel. now, we do know the woman had to be taken to the hospital at this point. the extent of her injuries is not clear. >> it looks like a callback is advising that they were shot. they were heading eastbound towards oakland inside a blue toyota camry. again medics are responding as well. three they were shot going through the tunnel. >> gunshot victim to the leg. conscious breathing. >> authorities say they do not have a list of suspects or know the motive behind the shooting. abc seven news was on the scene

as police conducted their investigation. you can see all of this led to massive backups on a busy saturday night. uc davis medical center in sacramento is trying to contact about 300 people who may have been exposed to measles. health officials say it happened after a child was treated for the contagious viral illness at the hospital last week. the child had returned from traveling outside the u.s. and was evacuated on march 5th in the emergency department between noon and 5 p.m. uc davis says it has the situation under control, according to health officials. people with measles are infectious from four days before to four days after the onset of the rash. >> many of us may be recovering from losing that hour of sleep over the weekend, springing forward usually brings more warm weather events to the bay area. >> abc seven news reporter tara campbell shows you how san francisco is taking on new life and building a better bay area reporter. >> from free concerts to free tulips, night markets and more, san francisco's welcoming in the

let's talk about fashion or fashion. there were so many incredible gowns on the red carpet last night. i personally loved america ferrera in that pink sequined dress. she looked incredible. very barbie. so when i was told that i was coming to the oscars, obviously one of my first thoughts was, what am i going to wear? and that's when we decided to feature several bay area fashion designers. and one of them was very and sacco. >> oh wow. a long time. the first step is the fabric was hand-painted, so it was kind of rolled out in our studio, and the artist came in and then each strip was individually hand pleated. so i would say it's about two months. yeah i mean two months. yeah. this is not fast fashion. oh my gosh. yes yeah. >> and that's exactly what we don't see. the months and years and many of these fashion
