shoreline today and from sutro we are in the mid 40s in petaluma. so chillier with upper 40s in livermore. and as we go through the next few hours, we're warming up with all that sun through the low to mid 60s before noontime and then by noontime already checking out numbers approaching 70. look what happens at 3:00, some low 70s in our warmest inland valleys. but that sea breeze allowing for a cooler day from stinson pacifica, half moon bay, montara. and that trend continues into the second half of the weekend. much bigger changes for the upcoming workweek. we'll talk about it in a few minutes. stephanie. >> lisa. thank you. right now, 780 in benicia is back open this morning after a shooting closed a portion of the highway overnight. benicia police say they tried to pull a car over based on an alert from an automated license plate reader. they say the two people in that car started shooting at police, and police fired back. no one was hurt and the two suspects are now in custody. the highway closure started just after nine last night and lasted almost

eight hours. a person who was walking on highway two, 80, in san jose, died after being hit by a car. it happened between byrd avenue and vine street near the highway 87 junction, when officers arrived, they reportedly saw the victim on the ground and the driver stayed on scene. the southbound on and off ramps are back open this morning. new this morning oakland police are investigating an attempted robbery at a bank on broadway in 12th street. they say a vehicle was used to crash into the window of the city national bank, but the suspects were not able to gain access. police also report that they believe the 4 or 5 suspects in the car ran away before they arrived. developing news a plane that took off from sfo reportedly lost an exterior panel. it is the sixth incident involving a united flight since monday of last week. no one noticed the panel was missing until after the plane had landed. it took off from san

francisco with nearly 150 people on board, and it made it to medford, oregon without any issues. but nonetheless, this is alarming. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has intel from an aviation expert. >> friday. another problem for a united airlines flight involving a boeing plane, this time a flight from sfo losing an external panel. >> well, heavy things fall off. jetliners is not our favorite methodology. it is in any way, form or fashion, rare and troublesome. >> john nance is an abc news aviation analyst, and he's referring to united flight 433. it's there where crews discovered the missing panel. >> did somebody fail to close something which would have been a human factors uh- that it was a fatigue or do we have a situation here that was somehow in maintenance? those questions will all have to be answered. >> in a statement, united says it will thoroughly examine the plane and perform repairs and conduct an investigation to know how the damage occurred. boeing

saying in an email it's deferring comment to united about the carrier's fleet operation, also including some information about the boeing 737 800, which has been in operation for 25 years. >> you know, one of the questions i've been asked so many times over the years is how long can a jetliner stay in service indefinitely? we've got b-52s now that are older literally than any aircraft commander flying them and the air force as for the 139 passengers and six crew members on board, they likely weren't at any risk. i don't think we had any real danger here in the air. we had danger of anybody who something might fall on. they came off an aircraft. that's always a big concern. the big concern for the faa as well as all of us. >> the incident comes on the heels of a handful of mishaps with united flights in the last few weeks, including a wheel falling off a flight departing from sfo. but the experts say would be passengers shouldn't be worried. >> it's not only safe to fly, it's so much safer than even driving to and from the airport.

and that's not just statistically true. it really is true. >> tara campbell, abc seven news now united says that the missing panel was on the underside of the aircraft, where the wing meets the body. >> the panel fits right next to the landing gear. happening now, a large stretch of interstate 680 is shut down for the entire weekend. caltrans has closed the southbound lanes of 680 from the 580 junction down to koopman road. that's about nine miles of roadway. caltrans is repaving and says the work should be done before the monday morning commute. happening today, bart is suspending its red line this weekend for scheduled maintenance. it's the line from richmond to millbrae. they say riders who usually take the red line should instead board the orange line and transfer to a yellow line at macarthur station. there will be scheduled transfers. free busses will also replace train service from richmond and el cerrito del norte. also in the east bay, alameda rescue workers have recovered the body of a man who

was last seen struggling in the water. this was over by balaena bay. the alameda fire department's divers attempted to rescue this man, but were unable to get to him before he went under the accomplice in the fatal shooting of a federal building security guard will spend the rest of his life in prison. a judge sentenced robert justice to life without the possibility of parole. justice drove codefendant stephen carrillo to oakland during protests over george floyd's murder. both were followers of an anti-government group. carrillo opened fire on two guards, killing one. as justice drove off the killing set off a week long search that ended with carrillo killing a santa cruz county deputy. carrillo pleaded guilty two years ago and is now serving a 41 year prison sentence. we have new developments within the federal women's prison in dublin. a judge is taking an unprecedented step in bringing in outside oversight. fbi agents raided the place this week. a special

master will oversee the facility as part of a lawsuit over ongoing claims of sexual abuse. the bureau of prisons has never faced this level of scrutiny. before the prison is at the center of a years long investigation into sexual abuse and misconduct by staff. at least eight employees have been charged with abusing inmates. the fbi would not share details about monday's search. they did, however, say they were conducting court authorized activity on the peninsula. farm workers are taking matters into their own hands this weekend. we've reported extensively on the poor conditions they often live in, and that's something they'll address at a convention in san mateo county. here's abc seven news reporter lauren martinez. >> hola somos el comité de plantation de la convencion de campesinos. >> these organizers are spreading the word about a first of its kind farm worker convention. the event was planned by farm workers for farmworkers. >> levantar la voz leona martinez, a farm worker in

pescadero, says the this sunday is to make the workforce known and to raise their voices. >> the host organizations, puente and coastside hope, are expecting hundreds of farm workers from half moon bay, pescadero down to watsonville to attend. >> so it's really the union of an entire region coming together to learn, but also to share about their stories and their lives. >> there is pride in the farming community and problems. >> primero es ella martinez listed decent housing for farm workers as the number one problem. >> farmers living in shipping containers surfaced during the half moon bay mass shooting in january of 2023. last september. this property in pah'-huh-roe in monterey county was cited several times by code enforcement. lack of heating, roach infestation, lack of ventilation, missing smoke and monoxide alarms are just some of the violations. >> we were able to see both the

very gross gross neglect. >> raymond cansino was the ceo of community bridges, a multi-service agency. he says the 17 unit converted apartment complex housed farm workers and their families. many, if not all, were undocumented. one unit was redtagged days later, cansino says the property owner decided to evict everyone around thanksgiving and christmas. >> it completely undermines and destroys people's kind of sense of, groundedness. >> cansino says some of those tenants are seeking civil litigation against the landlord. >> until we have legislation at the statewide level that mandates a certain percentage of agricultural, farm worker housing be created on farm worker land, i don't see a solve for this. and so i hope that more of these gatherings across sectors, across people of color, are uplifted, are created, and i hope that we improve the well-being of those around us in the south bay.

an israeli strike in central gaza last night killed 37 people, according to gaza's hamas run health ministry. sources say that residents only got 15 minutes to evacuate. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu's office says he has approved the plans for action in rafah, but the white house says it has not received those plans. right now, 1.4 million people displaced who are palestinian are currently in rafah. cease fire talks between israel and

hamas are expected to restart as soon as tomorrow. the race for the white house continues as we count down the days to the november general election. meanwhile we're following developing news on the trials against former president trump, the gop nominee. a georgia judge rules fulton county da fani willis can remain on the trump election interference case, but only if she removes the special prosecutor with whom she engaged in a romantic relationship. yesterday, that lead prosecutor nathan wade stepped down hours later. separately, a judge in new york overseeing former president trump's hush money case delayed the start of the trial from its original march 25th start date. today, multiple cities, including san francisco, will honor the victims of the atlanta spa shootings that happened three years ago. the shooting left eight people dead, six of whom were of asian descent. today, asian american communities and allies in new york city, l.a. and atlanta will host events called stand together remembering 316. it

will feature asian american leaders, activists and artists addressing anti-asian hate. the event will happen in japan town's hotel kabuki today from 2 to 5 measles cases here in the u.s. have reached a troubling benchmark. the cdc has now confirmed 58 cases across 17 states this year. that's as many as there were all of last year. to put it in perspective, there were 121 cases in 2022 and 2019. there were more than 1200 cases, and that was the biggest spike since 1992. p-g-and-e's is donating over ten acres of land in novato to build one of the largest affordable housing projects here in california. the land is located on redwood boulevard near the days inn hotel at the base of the mount burdell preserve. p-g-and-e's has been trying to sell the land since 2018 without any buyers. it decided to donate it. the project will include 82, three

and four bedroom homes. the 13 acre housing complex will have trails connecting residents to parks and open space in novato. now to the severe weather aftermath in the midwest, three people are now dead after tornadoes tore through multiple states on thursday, more than a half dozen tornadoes were reported across seven states in indiana and ohio. the weather service says there were two ef three tornadoes, one of the hardest hit areas was logan county, ohio, just outside of columbus. more than two dozen people are being treated for broken bones and other injuries. back here at home, though, we get more sunshine with another beautiful day in store. let's check in with lisa. >> all right. stephanie, good morning to you. yes, we're looking at high pressure, our dominant weather feature protecting us for the next several days before things change as we get towards the end of the upcoming workweek. this is mount tam, where we're looking at just a little bit of fog temperatures in the mid 50s here. also 55, san francisco 56.

in oakland 57. hayward, good morning to you, san mateo, half moon bay. and as we look out from our exploratorium camera, it's going to be a cooler day in the city. a nice afternoon, but at least eight degrees cooler. and then at the coast, maybe ten degrees cooler. 50 in napa, 56 fairfield and concord, with 46 in santa rosa. and our forecast headlines then sunny today, temperatures dropping off from the 70s half moon bay to the low 60s. today looking at your sunday, waking up to some patchy fog at the shoreline, but sunny and mild once again inland with temperatures above average in the 70s, the vernal equinox is tuesday. that is the first day of spring. it's still going to be nice, but then after that, things really change. south winds coming up today allowing for the sea breeze to set up for the afternoon. so they turn westerly over 20 miles an hour. and that's typical. so nothing like yesterday. but if we advance forward into thursday, little light rain coming our way. look what happens friday. this is pretty far out, but it

bayi football club or bay fc will play its inaugural game this weekend. bay fc is the 14th and newest soccer team to join the national women's soccer league. bay fc defender emily mengis spoke to reporters about the club's preparations for any team. >> i think the first game of the season is always kind of, yeah, kind of just a not a crapshoot. we're more prepared than that. but every, every team is prepared as they will be later on. but, but yeah, we're feeling good. we're we're getting ourselves, like i said, we're ironing out the final details tactically. and, yeah. ready to play angel city. >> got to get that first game under the belt. the game kicks off tomorrow afternoon against angel city in los angeles bay fc's first home match is on march 30th. the dubs play the
