back to your headlines. >> thank you. amanda. developing news this morning. fire has damaged the historic century old gym at amador valley high school in pleasanton. firefighters were called to that school around 8:00 last night. they quickly pulled a second alarm, calling in reinforcements. a district spokesperson says they're still evaluating how this fire will impact classes this week. spokesperson says the gym is primarily used for practices with its sports teams. >> a vigil is planned for tonight at the site of a terrible crash in san francisco. police say an suv plowed into a bus stop. it killed two people, including a child. a third person died at the hospital. this happened on west portal avenue saturday afternoon. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. and gloria, there is a fourth is in the hospital. >> that's right. reggie just so tragic. the baby survived the crash but is in critical condition. three people have died and investigators still don't know why the driver crashed into the bus shelter. the driver is also in the hospital. caution tape now surrounds what used to be a muni

bus shelter in san francisco's west portal neighborhood. family friends say a couple and their toddler and baby were waiting at the bus stop on saturday when the driver of an suv crashed into them. a friend says the father and toddler were killed and sfpd says a woman died from her injuries on sunday, a friend saying that was the wife and the mother. vilma franco's husband, saw the crash and tried to help, and she took her daughter to the memorial. >> obviously i have my child, i have a kids and i. i don't want to imagine what the family feel in this moment, how heartbroken is for all the community. >> we are friends from san francisco, really close friends, like very good people, like very full of life. >> she's portuguese and then he's brazilian. like they're living here. >> of the victims who say the family was planning on enjoying the nice day at the zoo. a nonprofit walks san francisco is planning a vigil at the scene

for 5:00 this evening. the nonprofit fights for pedestrian safety. of course. we'll have the very latest on this story for you. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. it's just so heartbreaking. this morning we are expecting to learn more about a shooting during spring break celebrations in florida. jacksonville beach police say one person has died. two other people got hurt. a man is at the live desk with the details on this. amanda? yeah. >> kumasi. police in jacksonville beach say gunfire rang out in the city's beachfront bar district yesterday. video shows people running for cover on the beach. investigators say they believe there are multiple shooters on the run. officials ordered a shelter in place as they searched the area. >> it's a busy weekend. this is players weekend at saint patrick's day. it's spring break. we have a lot going on out here, so the fact that we had a couple of bad actors out here that really made a dangerous situation for everyone is extremely tragic and unfortunate. but i'm so proud of

our police department, all of our public safety officials and everyone involved that helped put public safety top of mind. >> it's unclear what led to the shooting. this comes as law enforcement has been on alert across florida as people head to the state for spring break, officials in miami beach imposed a midnight curfew over the weekend, prompting a lawsuit from nightclubs. a judge ruled against the club, saying the three night curfew did not cause irreparable harm. back to you, reggie. >> new developments san francisco mayor london breed is calling for the eventual release of video evidence in the death of a woman in the bayview district last year. breed made the announcement on facebook yesterday, a day after she heard from community members during an event to mark three years since the mass shooting at an asian spas in atlanta. 63 year old yan fang wu died in july after she was pushed on a sidewalk. the death was originally ruled an accident. our media partners at sf standard report the case was reopened last week after the woman, who is said to have pushed wu, got arrested for

assaulting another woman in her post, breed said video from wu's death should be released as soon as the investigation allows, and her family is notified and the east bay berkeley police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year. >> it happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue, just a couple of blocks east of san pablo avenue. police say someone stabbed another person to death. when officers got there, they detained a person. police didn't share the age or gender of the victim or the person they detained. they don't think anyone else is involved and say there is no threat to neighbors. >> the desperate situation in haiti is deteriorating, even more now. there are fears that roughly a million people are at risk of starvation. that alarming estimate is being made by the world food program and comes amid a political crisis in that country. gangs have attacked key institutions and shut down the main airport. they're calling for a quick transition of power after forcing the prime minister to resign over the weekend. we heard about some progress on that front. >> we do see the political

process moving forward. there was a terrific meeting in jamaica. secretary blinken represented the united states, where haitian led haitian groups came together and decided on this transitional presidential council to appoint an interim prime minister. so that's a good thing. >> hundreds of american citizens are trapped in haiti. the us government says it will organize a charter flight for them from a more stable area in the north of the country, getting there could be difficult. gangs are controlling the single highway to that region. russian president vladimir putin is poised to win another terms as president within minutes of polls closing in the weekend election. russia's central election commission said putin held a solid 87% with a quarter of ballots counted. that means putin will remain in power until at least 2030, when he'll be 77 years old. most opposition candidates in russia are either jail or either dead. i should say in jail, in exile, or banned from running. anti-putin protesters staged a rally outside the russian embassy in

washington, decrying the election and putin's autocratic rule ruling since the turn of the century. putin will be russia's longest serving leader since soviet dictator joseph stalin. >> israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is blasting comments by u.s. senate majority leader chuck schumer last week, where schumer called for new elections in israel. the scathing speech on the senate floor split from long standing u.s. policy. schumer normally a staunch supporter of israel, called netanyahu a, quote, major obstacle, end quote, to peace in an interview with cnn, netanyahu called the comments, quote, totally inappropriate. >> it's inappropriate for a uh- to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership there. that's something that israel, the israeli public, does on its own. and we're not a banana republic. >> when asked whether he would commit to new elections after the war with hamas, netanyahu said that was something for the israeli public to decide monday

morning. >> and we're waking up to low clouds and fog around the bay. it will clear and we'll see another not only sunny day, but a warmer day. today will be the warmest day of the week. although the first day of spring looking awfully nice as well. starting out with some mid 40s on the peninsula. morning palo alto a little cool there as well as fremont. it's 46, in vallejo with 49 in brentwood. a look outside our roof camera, low clouds and patchy fog this morning. it peels back and we'll have a sunny day today. temperatures into the 70s, so high pressure building in temporarily and by the end of the week we're going from may like weather back to winter as rain arrives friday a level one system and it's going to last through the first weekend of spring. here's a look at your wednesday as the temperatures are cool at the coast. upper 50s here to the upper 60s are blocking. ridge begins to weaken and fade away into thursday, but we're still dry. temperatures in the 60s around average and then

as we get into friday, here's when the rain arrives and we'll see this system stick around. several waves of rain over the weekend, and then much colder air behind the system. so we're talking snow in the sierra as well. rainfall estimates at this point looks to be anywhere from about a half an inch to three quarters of an inch. so we are looking at some beneficial rain. no problems, but certainly not like today where we'll see mid 70s concord, 70 in oakland, 75 in santa rosa, and the accuweather seven day forecast. plenty of dry days. spring arrives tomorrow and then rainy by the end of the week. >> lisa. thank you. another blow to downtown san francisco still ahead. another longtime business has left union square. >> executives at boeing working to address concerns over the recent string of plane issues with the company, is now telling airlines to do immediately. >> meta once again involved in a federal investigation. the serious claims about how the social media company is benefiting from drug sales on

works to address the latest string of mid-air incidents. boeing is now telling airlines to inspect the cockpit seats on certain planes. the report said. someone bumped a button on a 787 dreamliner plane, which sent it into a nosedive. last week, 50 people ended up hurt on that flight to new zealand. the wall street journal says a flight attendant serving a meal hit a switch on the pilot seat, pushing the pilot into the controls. there have been some other recent incidents as well. you probably remember last friday, united airlines flight from sfo landed in oregon with a panel missing. the airport director in medford says they noticed it during a routine inspection before the next flight. no one was hurt in that case, but it follows a flight out of sfo where they lost a wheel shortly after takeoff, crushing multiple cars below. >> meta, the parent company of facebook and instagram, is now under federal investigation over accusations means the social media company facilitated and

profited from illegal drug sales. the wall street journal first reported the news last night. these federal investigations sometimes don't lead to criminal charges. mark zuckerberg has previously said he wanted to root out wrongdoings on his platform. in a statement to the journal, a spokesperson for meta said, quote, the sale of illicit drugs is against our policies and we work to find and remove this content from our services. bay area representative ro khanna is weighing in on the political battle that could get tiktok banned here in the u.s, a bill that would require bytedance to divest itself of the video app or sell it passed the house last week. bytedance is the chinese based parent company of tiktok. yesterday, khanna told abc news he voted against the bill and said it unfairly targets it, unfairly targets tiktok when the real concern should be protecting data in general. >> two national security issues that proponents of the bill have cited. both are legitimate one will the data get to a

government, in this case, the chinese communist party? two will the chinese communist party have an influence on algorithms we can deal with both with a narrowly tailored law. let's ban any data going to a foreign country and protect american data. second, let's ban any foreign interference in a social media app, whether that's tiktok or another app. and by the way, those laws would also cover data brokers which are selling data to chinese companies. so this bill is not actually addressing the issues. >> it's still not clear if or even when the senate might take the bill up. but president biden has said he will sign it if it makes it to his desk. >> happening today, state lawmakers in sacramento will consider a bill that would extend the deadline for students to apply for state financial aid. right now, families are facing a tight deadline to figure out how to pay for college. the federal government tried to simplify the application for state and federal student aid, but a

series of glitches is making a mess of the process. there are about two weeks to that deadline, and thousands of families still can't even apply. this extension would allow applications through may 2nd. >> this week, santa cruz county leaders will hold a series of listening sessions aimed at hearing locals out about cannabis laws for meetings at aptos, watsonville, ben lowman and santa cruz will be held this first part of the week. the meetings will also be on zoom. the topics that will be discussed include cannabis sales, consumption and cultivation. now a few ideas being proposed. increasing cultivation limits and allowing consumption at existing retail businesses. now some people in the county have taken issue with the dispensary locations and how close they are to schools. >> another longtime business in san francisco's union square is no more. the north face closed for the final time last night. the outdoor retailer traces its origins to san francisco's north beach. it has no other stores in the city. the company was purchased by the vf corporation

here's a look at the south bay today, 76 in san jose and los gatos, 75 cupertino. so lots of sunshine. the fog clings to the shoreline, so we'll see. low 60s here. 72 in redwood city, mountain view, downtown. partly cloudy. nice afternoon at 67 and up in the north bay. plenty of sunshine, mid 70s. definitely feeling like may out there, even maybe some upper 70s. but the coast will be much cooler. and on the east bay, the shoreline there 74 in newark, heading inland, we've got those mid 70s. so the clouds will clear by ten, 11:00 in some spots. so it could be some late clearing closer to the bay shore. then as spring arrives just a few degrees cooler looking at midweek cooling with increasing clouds level one systems on the weekend and temperatures dropping well off to below average. good morning amanda, good morning lisa. >> now let's get you out the door and on your way this morning taking a look at drive

also filling up on southbound 680 heading towards highway 24. still good news. no major delays this morning. >> thanks so much, amanda. new this morning a stretch of southbound interstate 680 in the east bay has reopened this morning. after that weekend construction project we're warning you about on friday, the repavement work happened from the i-580 connector in pleasanton to koopman road starting friday night. caltrans says a full closure over one weekend saved them from doing 40 separate nighttime closures. tomorrow, we'll get new updates on the proposed network of speed cameras set to go up around san francisco. we first reported about this on abc seven news at 11 last week. 33 cameras will be installed across the city's 11 districts once installed next year, cameras will hit drivers with speeding tickets. if you're caught going 11mph or more over the speed limit, the fine goes up the faster you drive. on tuesday, the sfmta board of directors will get to weigh in. oakland and san jose are two other cities where speed

were hit saturday night in the break ins happened at a number of places around town, including the petaluma outlets, a high school, an apartment complex, a hotel. neighbors say it is a jarring incident in their community. >> it's one thing when it's just a random situation, but when it's happening all over and it's consistently getting worse, i it makes you wonder where you can live and be safe. >> police say this type of break in spree is happened in nearby cities to anyone with surveillance video. would they would like them to contact petaluma police? developing news from the texas mexico border. a lebanese migrant who claims to be a part of the hezbollah militant group entered the u.s. this month. border patrol says the man was caught by agents near el paso after passing the border on march 9th. the new york post reports a 22 year old man was headed to new york and

patchy fog from oakland, san francisco up through the north bay, and then sunny and our warmest day of the week today, mid 70s. gilroy santa rosa could be some of the warmest locations. it's going to take some time for the fog to pull back though, and then we'll look at a level one system on friday lasting through the first weekend of spring. so beneficial rain headed our way. we are above average everywhere except for oakland at 86% of average, and looking at over 32in of rain in santa rosa. so we're doing well. not as good as we were compared to last year, but if we look at the snowpack, 28% in january, theory right now, 104% of average, and we'll be adding to these totals because the next incoming system, several of them , they're going to be cold coming from the pacific northwest. and we could see maybe a foot of snow or more in the sierra nevada. this is very preliminary. and by about wednesday or so, we'll really fine tune the numbers. but we are looking at about maybe a half inch to three quarters of an inch more in the north bay as
