flipped on at 537 this morning. traffic is backed up to the 880 overcrossing, and we want to check in with the golden gate bridge. very quiet. the camera showing traffic is flowing freely in both the north and southbound directions. here at 602. we'll get back to the headlines. >> thank you. amanda developing news a fire has damaged a historic century old gym at amador valley high school in pleasanton. firefighters were called to the school around 8:00 last night, and they quickly pulled a second alarm, calling in reinforcement. a district spokesperson says they're still evaluating how this fire might impact classes. this week, a spokesperson says the gym is primarily used for practices with its sports teams. >> happening tonight, the community will hold a vigil to remember the three people killed in a weekend crash in san francisco's west portal neighborhood on saturday, an suv crashed into a bus stop on yolo street. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is in the studio now with what we know, this morning. gloria. >> good morning reggie. i just heard back from san francisco police that a baby is still

suffering from life threatening injuries. three people have died , and investigators still don't know why the driver crashed into the bus shelter. and the driver is also in the hospital. caution tape now surrounds what used to be a muni bus shelter in san francisco's west portal neighborhood. family friends say a couple and their toddler and baby were waiting at the bus stop on saturday when the driver of an suv crashed into them, a friend says the father and toddler were killed, and sfpd says a woman died from her injuries on sunday, a friend saying that was the wife and mom. vilma franco's husband, saw the crash and tried to help out, and she took her daughter to the memorial. >> obviously, i have my child, i have a kids and i. i don't want to imagine what the family feel in this moment. how heartbroken is for all the community. >> we're friends from san francisco, really close friends, like very good people, like very full of life. >> she's portuguese and then

he's brazilian. like they're living here. >> those are friends of the victims who say the family was planning on enjoying the nice day at the zoo. a nonprofit, walk san francisco is planning a vigil at the scene for 5:00 this evening. the nonprofit fights for pedestrian safety. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news, kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. >> this morning we're expecting to learn more about a shooting during spring break celebrations in florida. jacksonville beach police say one person has died, two other people have been hurt, and amanda is at the live desk with the details on this. >> amanda kumasi police in jacksonville beach say gunfire rang out in the city's beachfront bar district yesterday. video shows people running for cover on the beach. investigators say they believe there are multiple shooters on the run. officials ordered a shelter in place as they searched the area. >> it's a busy weekend. this is players weekend at saint patrick's day. it's spring break. we have a lot going on out here, so the fact that we had a couple of bad actors out here that really made a

dangerous situation for everyone . one is extremely tragic and unfortunate, but i'm so proud of our police department, all of our public safety officials and everyone involved that helped put public safety top of mind. >> and it's still unclear what led to the shooting. this comes as law enforcement has been on alert across florida as people head to the state for spring break, officials in miami beach imposed a midnight curfew over the weekend, prompting a lawsuit from nightclub. but a judge ruled against the club, saying the three night curfew did not cause irreparable harm. back to you, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. new developments san francisco mayor london breed is calling for the eventual release of video evidence in the death of a woman in the bayview district last year. breed made that call on facebook yesterday, a day after she met with community members at an event to mark three years since the mass shooting at an asian spas in atlanta. that group, asian justice movement, says it asked breed to release the video during the event. 63 year old yan fang wu died in july after she was pushed on a

sidewalk. the death was originally ruled in accident. our media partners at sf standard report the case was reopened last week after the woman, who is said to have pushed wu, got arrested for assaulting another woman in the east bay. >> berkeley police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year. it happened yesterday ■afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue, just a few blocks east of san pablo avenue. police say someone stabbed another person to death. when officers got there, they detained a person. police didn't share the age or gender of the victim or the person they detained. they don't think anyone else is involved and say there's no threat to neighbors. >> the desperate situation in haiti is deteriorating even more now. there are fears that roughly a million people are at risk of starvation. that alarming estimate is being made by the world food program and comes amid a political crisis in that country. gangs have attacked key institutions and shut down the main airport. they're calling for a quick transition of power after forcing the prime minister to resign over the weekend. we heard about some progress on

that front. >> we do see the political process moving forward. there was a terrific meeting in jamaica. secretary blinken represented the united states, where haitian led haitian groups came together and decided on this transitional presidential council to appoint an interim prime minister. so that's a good thing. >> hundreds of american citizens are trapped in haiti. the us government says it will organize a charter flight for them from a more stable area in the north of the country. the problem is getting there will be difficult because gangs are controlling the single highway to that region. >> israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is blasting comments by u.s. senate majority leader chuck schumer last week, where schumer called for new elections in israel. the scathing speech on the senate floor split from long standing u.s. policy. schumer, normally a staunch supporter of israel, called netanyahu, quote, a major obstacle to peace. in an interview with cnn, netanyahu called the comments totally inappropriate. >> it's inappropriate for a uh- to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected

sending lava flowing toward a town. barriers have been put up to stop the lava from reaching the main road. police declared a state of emergency as it evacuated one of iceland's most popular tourist attractions, the blue lagoon. no reports of any injuries or deaths. >> wow. good morning. we have cool numbers here in the 40s, low to mid 40s on the peninsula. the bay shore around fremont, 43, in saint helena and lower 50s by the water. low clouds and fog. the coastal variety are back once again and that is allowing for the gray start and maybe some patchy fog closer to the shoreline. but we'll get into a lot of sunshine. the warmest day of the week today. temperatures as much as ten degrees above average for this last day of winter and then for tomorrow. very subtle changes. the bigger changes come on friday with a level one system arriving, bringing rain that's going to last into the weekend. here's a look at it queued up here for friday. these systems coming out of the pacific

it is now telling airlines to inspect the cockpit seats on certain planes. it comes after that incident on a flight that went from new zealand. a flight attendant reportedly accidentally hit a button on the pilot's seat, pushing the pilot into the controls. it caused the plane to nosedive. nosedive and 50 people were hurt. now let's get to united airlines. there was an incident on a flight from sfo to oregon on friday. the airport director in medford says they noticed a missing panel on a boeing plane during a routine inspection before the next flight. early this morning, united ceo sent an email to

customers saying the company is implementing an extra day of training for pilots starting in may and a centralized training curriculum for new hire maintenance technicians. here's what it says in part. our airline has experienced a number of incidents that are reminders of the importance of safety. while they are all unrelated. i want you to know that these incidents have our attention and have sharpened our focus. you can be confident that every time united plane pulls away from the gate, everyone on our team is working together to keep you safe on your trip. bay area representative ro khanna is weighing in on the political battle that could get tiktok banned here in the us, a bill that would require bytedance to divest itself of the video app or sell it passed the house last week by dance as a china based company, parent company of tiktok. yesterday, connor told abc news he voted against the bill and says it unfairly targets tiktok when the real concern should be protecting data in general. >> two national security issues that proponents of the bill have

cited. both are legitimate. one will the data get to a foreign government in this case the chinese communist party? two will the chinese communist party have an influence on algorithms? we can deal with both with a narrowly tailored law. let's ban any data going to a foreign country and protect american data. second, let's ban any foreign interfere in a social media app, whether that's tiktok or another app. and by the way, those laws would also cover data brokers, which are selling data to chinese companies. so this bill is not actually addressing the issues. >> it's still unclear if or when the senate might take up the bill. president biden has said he will sign it if it makes it to his desk. >> this week, santa cruz county leaders will hold a series of listening sessions aimed at hearing locals out about cannabis laws for meetings in aptos, watsonville, ben lomond and santa cruz will be held the first part of this week. the meetings will also be on zoom topics to be discussed include cannabis sales, consumption and

cultivation, a few ideas being proposed, increasing cultivation limits and allowing consumption at existing retail businesses. now, some in the county have taken issue with where the dispensaries are located and how close they are to schools. >> spring is only starting tomorrow, but home depot is already thinking about a whole different time of year. the retailer is teasing some of its halloween items it's going to be selling. that includes this 12 foot skeleton nicknamed skelly. this year, home depot says it will have a new and improved version that will sell for the same price 300 bucks. it does look like it blinks now. it has animated eyes. this is the earliest it has ever announced any halloween products. in case you're wondering, halloween is just 227 days away. i don't want to think about that, do you? >> i'm not good. >> i'm not okay, lisa, we ar officially not thinking about it. moving on. >> no, that's why i'm over here. >> good. she's can't even come over here and won't.

>> i won't be a part of that. but i'll be a part of that. >> okay, spring. >> let's be a part of spring. >> yes. >> something. yeah. the last day of winter. first day of spring. tomorrow a gorgeous day today. even warmer than yesterday. it will be warmer. in fact, the warmest day you're going to see for a while. so we're. we'll savor that right the next couple of days. 50 in hayward, 52 in oakland, low 40s from the peninsula to the mid 40s in napa. low clouds, the coastal variety are here. you can see them right here, banked up along the coast and inside the bay, maybe even further reaching into the east bay. they pull back though by about noon time and then looking at them, setting up away from the shoreline. so that's sunny at the coast and high pressure being pretty stagnant. it's going to stay here for days before we see a return to the several wet weather systems that will bring cold rain headed back our way wednesday. temperatures are still above average, but much cooler here along the shoreline. we're in the upper 60s inland and then by thursday everyone

comes down a few more degrees. we're still dry. we're still looking at partial sun here. and then friday is when we're going to bring in our storm impact scale, with possibility of a rainy afternoon commute. so this is very preliminary, but through the weekend we're looking at anywhere from 4/10 to maybe upwards of three quarters of an inch of rain. for most of us now, this will be fine tuned as we get closer to the event with our high resolution models. come say, wednesday into thursday and also painting a very snowy picture in the mountains through the weekend, maybe 1 to 2ft. there we can always use a little more of that, right? high temperatures from the mid 70s, even a few upper 70s around our inland valleys. remember we should be in the mid 60s, so that's well above average 67 in san francisco. and then back to the fog tonight. good morning amanda. >> good morning lisa. yeah we're starting off with a focus on the east bay. we're talking about the emeryville camera. you're seeing highway four to the toll plaza is going to take drivers about 30 minutes at this hour. just slow traffic on westbound 80 toward the toll plaza. we

sacramento will consider a bill that would extend the deadline for students to apply for state financial aid. right now, families are facing a tight deadline to figure out how to pay for college. the federal government tried to simplify the application for state and federal student aid, but a series of glitches is making a mess of the process. so now there are about two weeks to the deadline and thousands of families still can't even apply. the extension would allow applications through may 2nd.

tesla and a black former employee have settled a discrimination case that drew attention to the company's treatment of minorities. last year, the man was awarded more than $3 million by a federal jury after he claimed tesla overlooked racial epithets and offensive graffiti at the fremont factory. court documents gave no details about the settlement, and tesla has not commented. next, at 630. robert kennedy jr is set to announce a running mate in the coming days, and his rumored pick has bay area ties. and where is kate middleton? rumors about her health continuing to fly. friends say she may be ready to break her long silence, and as we head to break, we're going to take a live look outside right now at 626. beautiful start to our week. we'll be right back

san francisco across the bay to oakland up in the north bay. we're cool in the mid 40s, but we'll break out into plenty of sunshine later on this morning and temperatures this morning with that blanket of clouds a couple degrees warmer. so we'll be looking at the 50s throughout the morning hours. mostly cloudy , and then by about 11 12:00 we're already surpassing average highs for this time of year with low to mid 60s and numbers at least 8 to 10 degrees above average today. hey, amanda. hi, lisa. >> yeah, here at 630, we are going to take a look at drive times. you can see tracy to dublin 580. westbound is 55 minutes. that's probably going to be the busiest part of the commute at this time. taking a look at the overall map now that slowed down at the altamont pass we were keeping our eyes on. you see it there, a slow down on highway four around pittsburgh as well. and last headline, a little slowdown in albany on westbound 80. it doesn't slow down again until the foot of the maze to the bay bridge toll plaza. >> thank you amanda new this morning a stretch of southbound

interstate 680 in the east bay reopened this morning after a weekend construction project. the repavement work happened from the i-580 connector in pleasanton to koopman road. it started friday night. caltrans says a full closure over the weekend saved them from doing 40 separate nighttime closures. >> tomorrow, we'll get new updates on the proposed network of speed cameras set to go up around san francisco. we first reported about this on abc seven news at 11 last week. 33 cameras will be installed across the city's 11 districts. once installed next year, cameras will hit drivers with speeding tickets if they're caught going 11mph or more over the speed limit. the fine goes up the faster you drive. on tuesday, the sfmta board of directors will get to weigh in. oakland and san jose are two other cities where speed enforcement cameras have been approved under a state pilot program. >> this morning, friends are mourning a family they describe as amazing. >> they say a couple and their two young children were waiting for the bus in san francisco

like no issues with anything. they were just like love, love, love and taking care of their, their kids, you know, like then they were like going to the zoo, you know, like to have a nice day at the park. >> nobody should die this way. we shouldn't. our community shouldn't be losing members of our community this way, it's absolutely devastating. >> that's the executive director of walk san francisco planning the vigil tonight. investigators still don't know why the driver crashed into the shelter. and the driver is also in the hospital. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> such an awful story. gloria. thank you. in the north bay, petaluma police are asking for the public's help to solve a rash of car break ins over the weekend. they're hoping people have surveillance surveillance video that can help them identify the suspects. police say more than 30 cars got hit saturday night. the break ins happened at a number of places across town, including the petaluma outlets at a high school, an apartment complex and a hotel. neighbors say it's pretty jarring.

with plans to build another, larger community. the village provides housing and resources for its residents. developing news from the texas-mexico border a lebanese migrant who claims to be a part of the hezbollah militant group entered the u.s. this month. border patrol says the man was caught by agents near el paso after crossing the border on march 9th. the new york post is reporting. the 22 year old man was headed to new york and had plans to, quote, make a bomb. in an interview, the man said he trained with and been a part of the terror group for at least ten years. he's been marked for deportation, but it's not clear where he'd be returned to. >> your voice, your vote. republicans are defending former president trump after he claimed there would be a bloodbath for the auto industry and the country if he loses the election. >> we're going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you're not going to be able to sell those cars if i get elected. now, if i don't get elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole that's

this is over accusations the social media company facilitated and profited from illegal drug sales. the wall street journal first reported this. these federal investigations sometimes do not lead to criminal charges. mark zuckerberg has previously said he wanted to root out wrongdoing on his platforms. in a statement to the journal, a spokesperson for meta said, quote, the sale of illicit drugs is against our policies and we work to find and remove this content from our services. an 81 year old craft store has filed for bankruptcy. joann made the announcement this morning and also said it secured $132 million in funding that will help reduce its debt in half after it ballooned to $1 billion. the retailer hopes it will emerge from the bankruptcy process as soon as next month. there are about a dozen joann stores in the bay area, all 850 stores and its website will continue their operations. and now we're taking a live look at the new york stock exchange. you can see that we're up about 62 points. >> if you are still feeling some saint patrick's day luck, maybe

it's time to buy a lottery ticket. two massive jackpots up for grabs in the next few days. mega millions is estimated to be a whopping $875 million for the drawing tomorrow night. it's been weeks since anybody matched all of the numbers. $875 million would be the sixth largest mega millions jackpot ever. and it could be even larger by the time we get to the drawing tuesday night. if you missed that one, saturday night's powerball jackpot is expected to be about $600 million, and now it's my favorite story of the morning. >> it's a dog named velcro. he finally found his forever home after spending more than two years in a texas shelter. turns out, his perfect match is also a fellow senior, 74 year old jeanette says she's been spoiling velcro since bringing him home. velcro needs a lot of love and attention. he's ten years old and he has some special needs he can't see or hear very well, jeanette says to that. that's all right because she's not that spry herself, although i think this video is proving otherwise as she describes velcro as a gentleman. jeanette says wherever she goes,
