now, to the major settlement with the impact on the way we buy and sell our homes. chief business correspondent, rebecca jarvis here to explain why this decision was made and who throughout the country does this affect and when does it start? good morning, rebecca. >> rebecca: good morning, michael. this is a land decision how we buy and sell our homes. so today, if you want to sell your home, you have to agree up front to pay nonnegotiable 5.6% to 6% commission. once you sell it, you paid that to your agent who splits it with the buyer's agent. now the trouble wi this according to the suit is that it can drive up home prices, and it allegedly let's buyers agents to steer clients towards expensive homes. this decision to give sellers negotiating power of the commission. 6% no longer standard *empire us -- empires more transparency. buyers could choose to pay a commission directly to their agent, or they could choose to skip using agents altogether. economists estimate it will save consumers $30 billion in

commissions, but it will also likely lead to real estate agents leaving the industry in $418 million settlement is approved by a federal court, the changes will take effect in months. experts tell me this could be mid-july. michael asked, who does it affect? it affects everybody who buys a home or sells a home you are in the business of buying or selling a home, it doesn't matter what state, robin, it impacts everyone. >> robin: it's the game changer, rebecca, you are right about that. we are going to turn to a a model mystery and lara is here this morning. good morning. >> lara: this is a mystery, hiking in a remote area and suddenly coming across this, a 10-foot tall silver monolith with no footprints or tire tracks, no clue as to how it got there. that is exactly what happened in the welsh countryside. now, residents and visitors alike flocking to the bizarre scene. take a look. >> it is the mysterious monolith that is the talk of one u.k.

pierre. >> good morning. federal authorities concern social media companies like meta which owns facebook and instagram are not doing enough to keep illegal drugs from being sold or marketed on their platforms. the federal grand jury subpoena and review by "abc news" reveals the justice department launched a criminal investigation into this very matter. according to that subpoena sent to a social media watchdog group that tracks online crime, prosecutors want record showing any drug content on meta platforms that may have violated federal law and any that relate to illicit sale of drugs. authorities have been concerned about victims being sold as drugs to contacts on social media and beginning to focus more on the unethical or illegal promotion of opioid use through advertising online. and telling us in a statement, "the sale of illicit drugs are against their policy and we will work to remove the content from our services." meta is cooperating with law enforcement officials to

>> it was a family affair of the day that jaden was born with kathy's children and husband there for support. >> they have become an extended family to us and we hope jaden will grow up and see them as such. >> it is such a gift that desiree and kathy did for their families. meredith and eric and gigi, kathy, i want to say thank you so much to all of them for sharing their story. i talked to all of them extensively and one of the things they wanted to do was help people feel less lonely in this process because it can be a very lonely journey at points. >> robin: i can hear your voice catching a little bit. this resignations with you. when did you feel there was light at the end of the tunnel? >> it is an interesting question because i really held my breath until the day leo was born and he was in my arms. matt and i am the hospital with and the surrogate and her incredible family.

but i think that first moment where we met our surrogate for the first time, we hadn't -- it's called matching when you meet them for the first time, and you talk to each other. you talk to each other's families and you get to know each other and decide if this is the right journey you want to be on together. week, i mean, matt and i wrestle with this, whether this was the right choice for our family. i realized we talked about a lot there in the story. this is not the right choice for people. it is not necessarily going to be the path forward for many, but we wanted to shine light because surrogates are doing an incredible service. kathy and desiree did an incredible service. >> robin: you know, so many are listening right now may be an a tough part of their journey. so, what advice do you have? >> you know, a question like that, i don't want to say what people should do because i understand the prescription could be wrong. but for me, there were so many

moments that i would come to work and i was a devastating moment and see your smiling faces made a difference for me. another thing that really made a difference is i found friends who are going through this. and we started dancing together. we took a dance class together. and i would look forward to that moment just being apart from everything that was happening, but being with these two women and they know who they are. it made the most incredible difference for me. so, i hope people can find a practice of struggling and also, talk to your partner. thank goodness, matt, my husband was with me through it. if you are having trouble having those conversations, get a party involved, a trusted member of the community that have those conversations. >> robin: i know this will be an ongoing series so what do we have for day two? >> we are talking about adoption coming up because, again, this is a struggle for so many families. there are so many different options when you are following this journey. >> robin: to know what your options are? >> yes. >> robin: thank you for sharing this.

>> thank you robin, guys. >> michael: very personal, rebecca, we really appreciate you. thank you. we are going to turn to the change coming to the self checkout line at target and other retailers. rhiannon ally, good morning, rhiannon. >> good morning, michael, love them or hate them, self checkout lines are here to stay. this morning a big change coming to target. the chain is tweaking how many items you can wring up yourself to just ten and all of its 10,000 locations. the company did a trial run 200 stores last fall and this is what they found out self checkout lanes move twice as fast and though stores had a reduction in theft as well. target told abc news, the program was not directed at targeting theft, but that was one of the results. and for those who can't go to target and buy less than ten items with less face-to-face with employees, target is opening up traditional checkout lanes as well. target is not the only store making changes to self checkout, dollar general close the option in 300 outfit stores with the

highest rate of theft and implemented five times things or less at stores. but one thing i certainly learned while researching this story, the self checkout lanes with strong emotions from customers on both sides of the aisle. >> i'm not good at it. the sting of inflation, some restaurant chains getting creative. ♪ ♪ >> earlier this year applebee's launching a new dining subscription, the applebee's date night pass. >> we kind of felt like we won the applebee's lottery. >> selling out one minute, pass valued $1,500 gives users food and drink once a week for a year. the promotion comes as the cost of eating out is up. according to the labor department, it is 29% higher than five years ago. >> it helps the consumer in ways. one, consumers able to get the food they like at discount prices. number two, it builds a brand loyalty for the customer and the restaurant. >> emily brooks and her husband $200 had given up date night to save money, but snacking the coveted applebee's deal put down her

it is a homage to my mom, a sicilian woman teaching school in washington, d.c. you know, except for the accent we had a for melissa, it is very much my mother was brooklyn. so she was just a really fierce, caring, protective woman. she loved her students. she was a real bear in the school system. so, i just based it on her. unfortunately, she passed right after we shot the pilot. but i was when she was in the hospital the last time, i was able to get a copy of the pilot. which you are not supposed to do quinta made that happen. i really want my mom. she was sicilian and always pessimistic. that is how we do it, sicilian families, what is not going to work? that is what is going to happen. so i never told her about the things i shot until something happened with it. with this one when i knew it was

going to go on we shot this amazing thing, i wanted her to know that i was going to be okay. so to have it in 3 minutes, i played it for her. >> robin: did she love it? >> first of all, she knew i was happy, working with great people and a great homage to her. all the teachers doing it every day. >> sweet. >> everybody bothers you about "parent trap" possibilities? it is no bother. to be a part of the movie still to this day, first of all, i can't get bad service. i go to the restaurant, the waitresses and the young women and the clothing stores, i mean, everybody is grown up with this movie because it is a kids movie but also a romance. they feel safe with the character. >> it is so classic. it is so classic. >> i love that people respond to it still and i'm lucky. do you think lindsay will come back in the business now? >> i was trying to get too

fistful of parmesan. you want to make it hardier, add some ground meat or some pesto, you can take eggplant 45 minutes and scoop out the insides and mix it with a sauce. now your sauce got a little bit hardier with little effort and great for a weekday night. >> show us how to make the recipes in the book. this is a pasta pizza where the crust is positive. -- pasta. >> that's right, pizza, cooked pasta one minute less cook than what the box will tell you. michael, please help me out. whisk, beat the edge, beat the cornerback. so, you want this pasta to be oiled and i will actually dump into you here. perfect. looks good. all right. >> michael: what do we do after that? >> we have to mix it all together. >> michael: you don't trust me.

because you mixed it into the pasta. [laughter] >> we already oiled that she pan and you might get a little dirty here, michael. >> michael: i don't mind. >> spread this out nice, single even layer. here you go. >> michael: even layer. >> all the way to the edges. this will be our pasta crust, pizza crust rather. you will bake this 15 minutes at 425 and it will come out looking like this. we are halfway to a crust and we will top it. >> michael: cheese first. >> michael: why the cheese first? that is not the controversy but then cheese. >> my podcast i interviewed patsy and he said put the cheese on first because the crust, you don't get that problem when you bite into the pizza and all the cheese slides off. >> michael: oh! it is also with this specific , it is an advantage because the cheese creates a see also the sauce does not gap through the bottom and make it soggy. >> michael: gap, are you talking about me, willis? so pizza with cheese. >> get it nice and smeared on top. and look, there is a lot of great additions in the cookbook and a lot of things that will change your pasta game. imagine we are in a pasta rut in so many different dishes with chili -- egg on top, you break the yoke. and my kids love that one. >> michael: i will tell you this i trust a man who creates his own pasta who has one "time" magazine of the year, best invention. this actually, all right, that is the pizza. that will come out at the end there, right? >> that is right. at the end looks like this and the pasta is crispy on the bottom. and you are going to be able to pick it up like a slice of pizza. it is a great party trick, and it is a ton of fun. >> michael: i will do it once i throw it to commercial because i can't eat at the same time. go to good goodmorningamerica.com and
