how more men are getting out of work and a bank mistakenly allows people to withdraw more than what's in their accounts. >> what happened when the bank asked people to return the money? >> from abc news in new york. this is america this morning. good tuesday morning, everyone. >> i'm rhiannon ally, and i'm lionel moise. >> in for andrew. we begin with the former president, president trump and his financial troubles. >> his lawyers say he's not able to raise the nearly half $1 billion bond that a new york court is demanding in his civil fraud case. trump is now responding on social media, calling the dollar amount unconstitutional. >> meanwhile, major developments from the stormy daniels hush money case she is speaking out. in a new interview ahead of the upcoming trial. abc's perry russom has the latest, beginning with trump's bond payment, which is due soon. perry good morning. >> good morning to you. trump has less than a week to pay the bond in full, but his lawyers say that will be impossible.

well, they say trump does not have the money. this morning former president trump is lashing out at the $464 million judgment in his new york civil fraud case, calling the bond unconstitutional and un-american. trump also claiming the bonding companies have never heard of such a bond. it comes hours after his lawyer said they face insurmountable difficulties , having approached more than 30 insurance companies for help securing the $464 million bond, saying they were rejected by all of them. the main reason being trump does not have enough cash and the insurance companies were unwilling to accept his real estate assets as collateral. trump and his eldest sons were found liable for inflating the value of their real estate holdings to get favorable bank loans. they've been ordered to post bond by next monday. they're now asking an appeals court to lower the bond amount. >> there's no telling when the appeals court may rule, but if trump. the attorney general could begin to take ownership of trump's properties. we're not sure that means padlocks and stickers on the door, but she told us she is determined to make sure trump

pays. the case criminal indictments the former president faces. >> yesterday, trump lost his attempt to block testimony from his former fixer, michael cohen, and from adult film actress stormy daniels at his upcoming trial over alleged hush money payments to daniels. trump pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records to pay daniels for her silence about his sexual encounter, an encounter that trump denies. >> i came out of a bathroom to find myself cornered. i don't remember how i got on the bed. >> in a new documentary, daniels says she was scared for her life when news of the alleged affair and hush money payment came to light. >> at one point, you recorded like a last will. >> yeah, i was completely sure

new problems. for more bugs and bears, to more pain for allergy sufferers, the calendar says. spring arrives tonight, but from the deep south to the upper midwest, it feels like spring really sprung. weeks ago this winter was the warmest on record for the lower 48 states. average temperatures in wisconsin were nearly ten degrees above normal. the deep red areas on this map show where plants sprouted their leaves up to three weeks earlier than normal. the cherry blossoms in washington have already hit peak bloom two weeks earlier than normal. while most of us welcome the sun and the flowers in early spring comes with consequences. >> we've had a really warm winter and spring and that's really kicking off our pollen season into a frenzy quite early, nearly every region of the country could now see a more intense allergy season earlier and longer pollen seasons are something we need to prepare for. this is something that climate change is going to keep driving in coming years. >> from pollen in the air to

smoke this year, texas has already seen its largest wildfire on record. officials as far north as minnesota are already warning of a high risk for fires. part of the problem the lack of snow, adding to drought and water supply concerns in parts of the country. maple sirup producers also forced to make changes, tapping trees as early as january. the earlier spring also impacting wildlife. >> it is certainly strange in the beginning of february to see so many bears out. >> bears have been waking up from their hibernation earlier. people have already been warned to secure their trash and bird feeders. you can also expect more mosquitoes this summer, experts say late winter and spring are the times of year. seeing the most dramatic climate change. el nino is also a factor this year. >> well, spring also means a rise in gas prices and right now prices are higher than they were at this time last year. the national average is 3.47 per gallon. that is up $0.40 since january and up $0.07 in just the last week. in addition to seasonal demand, recent attacks

by ukraine on oil facilities in russia have also driven up prices. >> president biden and israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu had their first phone call in more than a month yesterday. the white house says the leader spoke at length about rafah, the city in gaza where more than a million palestinians are sheltering. biden urged netanyahu not to launch a ground operation against hamas. they're netanyahu agreed to send a team to washington to discuss other options. >> a humanitarian crisis has descended across gaza, and anarchy reigns in areas that israel's military has cleared, but not stabilized. hamas should not be allowed a safe haven in rafah or anywhere else, but a major ground operation there would be a mistake. it would lead to more innocent civilian deaths, worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis, deepen the anarchy in gaza and further isolate israel internationally. >> the un also warns about 300,000 people in northern gaza could be facing a famine in the coming weeks, a possible setback

in the case of two murdered girls in indiana. >> the suspect now wants all charges against him dismissed, claiming evidence that could clear him was destroyed. richard allen is accused of killing abigail williams and libby german in 2017. now, during a hearing yesterday, his lawyers presented evidence that a recording error destroyed 70 days worth of police interviews in the case. authorities say the videos were accidentally erased. as of now, the trial is set to begin in may. >> more colleges are bringing back sat requirements and that is causing quite the chaos among students and schools. many colleges and universities dropped their sat requirements during the pandemic, but now some are bringing them back, while others are making the exams optional. in addition to the confusion, though, teachers say students who take the sat this year may suffer from a lack of preparation time, it is time for a look at your tuesday weather >> as we mentioned, spring

the most popular dog breeds. so what? dogs made the list? it's gonna be a big one. >> back now with the first video of kate middleton since her abdominal surgery back in january. the video, obtained by tmz, is from a weekend shopping trip showing princess kate appearing happy with her husband, prince william. her long absence from the public eye has fueled conspiracy theories about her condition. british tabloids are celebrating the sighting, the sun saying great to see you again, kate. >> new details this morning in the case of a utah wife, mother and children's book author charged with murdering her husband. court documents show investigators now believe corey richards mother may have been involved in the alleged poison plot. here's abc's derrick dennis. >> this morning, new allegations in the case of corey richards. the utah mother accused of killing her husband, eric, by poisoning him with fentanyl, then writing a children's book on dealing with grief. investigators now claim richards may have had help from her mother, lisa darden. darden

spoke about the case late last year and claimed eric may have accidentally overdosed on his own. >> i believe eric may have gotten pain pills and didn't realize that they had fentanyl in them would never, ever do this. not only to eric, but to those boys. >> newly unsealed documents reveal lisa darden was living with a woman back in 2006, who also died suddenly from an overdose, investigators now say based on lisa darden's proximity to her partners suspicious overdose death, it is possible she was involved in planning and orchestrating eric's death. corey richards attorney responded saying the fact that miss darden significant other was one of the millions that suffered from and ultimately succumbed to opioid addiction, is hardly suspicious. it is tragic and unfortunately quite common. but the similarities may go beyond overdose, as

investigators say darden benefited from her partner's life insurance policy, just like richards allegedly tried to do. when investigators say she changed eric's life insurance policy months before his death, richards has pleaded not guilty to all charges. her attorney, also defending richards mother, saying the fact that miss darden was the beneficiary of her romantic partners life insurance policy is also not unique. it only demonstrates that her circumstance are no different than most families in america. richards is due in court today in a separate case accused of assaulting her sister in law. as for richards mother, she has not been charged with any crime. lionel rhiannon. >> all right. derek. thank you. more fallout from the law enforcement crisis with staffing nationwide, a sheriff's department in southern indiana says it can no longer staff the overnight hours. it cites low pay as one factor, causing a recruitment challenge. other factors for the police shortage nationwide include low morale and a spike in retirements. coming up, a new trend in home

task force to crack down on burglary tourism. we have a significant increase in burglaries from organized groups that are outside this country that are coming into the country, and they are targeting, high end residents. >> authorities say sophisticated groups are traveling from south america, entering the u.s. on tourist visas to target upscale neighborhoods, breaking into homes to steal jewelry and cash. >> they come into this country or many other countries around the world as well, on 90 day visas and take advantage of our systems and our laws. >> surveillance videos show two homes being burglarized in redlands, california. three thieves are seen smashing a window before entering one of the homes. it comes amid a rise in home burglaries across southern california, all similar in nature to burglaries committed by the organized groups, the lapd reports more than 900 home burglaries this year alone, and this past weekend, police in irvine warned
