straight to the drive times. everything is on time. it seems. i'm talking about mass transit. here it is, 5 a.m. you guys. thanks for dealing with me elsewhere. traffic is moving at the limit across the bay area. your only trouble spot so far is the usual commute from tracy. >> thanks so much, amanda. a terrible development to share this morning. police say the baby, whose parents and brother were killed at a bus stop in san francisco's west portal neighborhood, has died. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is live with this tragic story. gloria. >> yeah, this has been just so sad. reggie. that baby was fighting for their life in the hospital, but sadly did not make it. the entire family has died. diego cardoso de oliveira and his wife matilda ramos pinto, their toddler and baby, were waiting at a muni bus stop in san francisco's west portal neighborhood when an suv plowed into them on saturday. police chief william scott spoke about the tragedy at yesterday evening's police commission meeting, this was this was a horrific incident and heartbreaking, there was a vigil

held monday night and the community came out in mass to support the victims of this accident. this collision, rather, police arrested the 78 year-old driver who was behind the wheel of a mercedes suv. >> she was arrested on reckless driving and vehicular manslaughter charges but has since been released from police custody. and we spoke to the attorney for the driver who said his client is also devastated by what happened. >> this is a very difficult time for her as well, you know, this is a tragedy that she has to find a way to live with and navigate. >> san francisco da brooke jenkins says her office is still reviewing the case to determine what charges the driver might face live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. this morning, one week after the house approved a bill that could potentially ban tiktok here in the u.s, senators from both sides of the aisle have a stark new warning about the app. a man is tracking that story from the

live desk and amanda, one senator compared tiktok to a gun aimed at americans. >> yeah, kumasi certainly an alarming statement. >> lawmakers are raising new security concerns as they consider a crackdown. it comes after senators yesterday got a classified briefing about how tiktok, owned by chinese company bytedance, uses the information it gathers against americans. one concern the app could be used by china to influence the upcoming presidential election. >> tiktok is a grave national security threat to americans. >> tiktok is a gun aimed at americans heads. i will say very emphatically, the american people need and deserve to hear what we've just been told because they would be deeply frightened. >> bytedance denies sharing americans data with the chinese government. >> tiktok has urged its 170 million users in the u.s. to contact their lawmakers to oppose the bill, passed by the house. if passed, the bill would force bytedance to sell the app

or face a ban in the u.s. still, no word on whether the senate will take up that bill, but there appears to be growing support for some action later this spring. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. this morning, the social media platform that calls itself the front page of the internet enters a new era. san francisco headquartered reddit will go public. the company is targeting a valuation of about $6.5 billion. reddit said yesterday it would offer 22 million shares, pricing them at $34 each. tech analysts say the ipo is more of a necessity than a choice. >> they have to monetize because they, you know, they're income is in negative because of the expenses they have to maintain the servers and the computers. >> the company has infamously never turned a profit. reddit's debut on wall street has many analysts cautiously optimistic it could lead to other ipos in silicon valley later this year. >> new developments in elon musk's endeavor into the human mind. his company neuralink,

along with satellite. we're still under the influence of a weak area of high pressure. but what is getting closer to us is our next storm system. first, we'll have a cold front move through here tomorrow with some light to moderate showers, and then the low pressure behind it will kind of spin over us on saturday. so we do have some wet weather moving our way for the start of the weekend, but right now, sunday we may actually finish the weekend with some dry skies in the afternoon. but today it's all about that cloud cover advancing in here ahead of the storm. tomorrow we'll find temperatures going into the mid and upper 50s. by 10 a.m. there's that filtered sunshine, maybe 1 or 2 degrees cooler today compared to yesterday, a little bit below average and a lot of spots. but we'll get you into the 60s and into the 70s for daytime highs today. enjoy the dry day today. so the next three days showers back in the forecast here tomorrow. it is a level one. and then as we head towards saturday with that low we have the chance of even a rumble of thunder moving through. so we're going to go hour by hour in future weather,

valid before takeoff. abc news confirms he was booked on two standby flights that were full. he told authorities he was just trying to get home. >> it has been quite the past few months for airplane manufacturer boeing. the recent series of mid-air and runway mishaps have caused a slowdown in production of new planes. while the faa demands safety changes now, some airline ceos are saying your summer vacation could be more expensive as a result, there is no doubt this summer we're facing delivery delays, which will constrain ryanair's growth this year. >> instead of carrying 205 million passengers, i think we're heading for somewhere between 100 and 98 200 million. >> boeing's bottom line is taking a big hit from the door plug incident on that. alaska airlines jet earlier this year, the company's chief financial officer told investors its commercial airplane unit's profit margins will drop to -20. that's their biggest loss in two years and some more unfortunate

airline news if you fly jetblue, there's about to be a lot less access to bay area airports. the carrier is set to end flights between san francisco and l.a. the move is a part of a restructuring plan. the airline will end operations in five cities, and 16 other routes will be cut. right now, there's only one daily route between lax and sfo. this comes after a federal judge blocked jetblue's acquisition of spirit airlines earlier this year. >> the 2024 game developers conference is bringing a big boost to businesses in downtown san francisco, so nearly 30,000 people are at the world's largest conference for game industry professionals at moscone center this week, according to san francisco travel. gdc will generate more than $40 million in economic impact for the city. and we noticed a line outside of this peruvian restaurant right across from the conference. >> super happy. you know, i want everyone to try my food. you know, this is why i am i am good for all the guests coming today. more busy today. we have today.

we have many reservations, many parties. >> oh, now i want to go to the restaurant. so it's called bocado. and you can tell the chef there was really happy. this whole thing is a sigh of relief for so many businesses in the area, because they're still recovering from the apec summit. it forced multiple streets to close and it blocked foot traffic to some of those businesses, and they really didn't see a boost in business as they were hoping. well, a similar boost happening this week in the south bay. san jose is hosting one of its biggest conventions since the pandemic. nvidia's ai conference is drawing people from all over, and visitors could provide a nice boost for local companies. one of them is frost. it's a cupcake factory, the owner tells abc seven that nvidia ordered a thousand cupcakes from her. besides being grateful for that business, she's noticed a change in the downtown area. >> you can just tell the whole city is booming. the hotels are packed, everything. there's people walking with lanyards everywhere. it's pretty cool.

evening. mostly cloudy overnight tonight. overnight we do stay dry. those temperatures in the 40s and in the 50s for friday and saturday. it's a level one light system on the storm impact scale. we're tracking light to moderate showers, slick roads, and some breezy conditions at times, and then again on saturday. that's the best chance of an isolated thunderstorm popping up. if one does could hear a clap of thunder. here's future weather tomorrow morning, right around noon. the rain is mainly focused in the north bay, so a lot of us are waking up to just cloud cover to start out our friday. by friday afternoon and friday evening, this front is moving south into the peninsula, the south bay and into the east bay. then on saturday, the low pressure will bring us more scattered showers and then into the afternoon. you see these hit or miss pops of yellow. there's that chance of a thunderstorm popping up to start out the weekend. rainfall totals in our wettest spots approaching an inch of rain and our drier locations probably closer to a quarter of an inch of rain through saturday. a winter storm watch is in effect for the west slope of the mountains through

the north bay. 1 to 1 is looking great as you travel northbound into santa rosa. no major issues to report. number seven lego and the makers of fortnite expanding their partnership. >> you can now design and build your own island within fortnite using lego elements. there are four templates to get you started. then you're only limited by your imagination. investigators say three bart workers made a habit of showing up to work, clocking in and then going right back home. bart's inspector general has put out a new report. it says these employees were getting paid their regular salary and overtime. in one instance, a technician for the systems automatic fare collection system clocked in and didn't work the shift for a total of 106 hours over 18 days last year. that earned him more than $9,000 in falsely billed wages and benefits. he retired after investigators got bart police involved and is now facing criminal charges. bart's management is handling the other two.

>> police have arrested a man who they say hid a camera inside of a starbucks bathroom in san jose. apparently, more than 90 people were reportedly filmed since january, the youngest being just four years old. this happened at the starbucks near coleman avenue and taylor street. san jose police say an employee found the camera under the bathroom sink facing the toilet. we spoke to a father whose son attends the school nearby. >> it's sickening. it is a feeling of being violated and this is wrong, you know, i'm glad they caught the person and i hope they the hammer comes down hard on them. >> police found guns. a lot of them, and other micro cameras at the 35 year old suspect's home. he's facing multiple charges, including child. authorities couldn't comment if the footage was sent to another location or uploaded online, starbucks said in a statement. this is a deeply disturbing incident and we are grateful for the quick and thorough response from the san jose police department and apprehending the suspect.

>> authorities in the central valley rescued 86 dogs and two people from a home in deplorable conditions. an anonymous call for a welfare check led police to this home in stanislaus county on tuesday, where they found five people and 86 dogs and what police called unlivable conditions. a four year-old and an elderly woman were removed from this home. three adults were arrested on abuse and animal cruelty charges. officials tell us the conditions inside were so were horrific and unsafe, even for the rescuers. >> fire department determined it was too unhealthy to enter without protective equipment, because the oxygen level was only at 16% and the oxygen level was so low because of all of the urine, in ammonia that was caused by that. and just all of the filth of the waste from the dogs. >> oh, no. oh, boy. >> that's a lot to process.

>> so they took the dogs to the county animal shelter to be treated. as you can imagine, a lot of the animals were sick. now, shelter officials there say they are well over capacity. >> a southern california police department has been getting attention for putting lego heads over the faces of people they've arrested. now lego is demanding they stop sharing these photos online. see what i'm talking about? and we mean virtually, by the way, not actually putting the lego head on their bodies. lego says the practice violates their trademarks. the murrieta police department says it began the practice to comply with the new state law earlier this year. it bans police from sharing mugshots of people accused of nonviolent crimes. >> a little fun, get some attention. you know, game the social media algorithms generate some attraction. it likes follows stuff like that. i definitely believe strongly in the value of transparency with

our community and letting them know what their police department is doing out there. >> it is hard not to laugh when you see these photos. i mean, there is something about it. >> it's something about the faces, the point of the new law was to protect people from being assumed guilty before they were tried or convicted of a crime. >> the department says it plans to just do something else moving forward. they could use emojis. >> maybe that's what they'll have to do. >> yeah. >> come on, bear not. come on, bear. in lake tahoe have been removed from homes and other buildings this winter. the bear league says it has forced out more than 100 bears. sometimes they remove eight bears a day. can you imagine? so a pastor in tahoe city recently found out a bear looking for warmth was lodging underneath the church for about a month. he says he called in a contractor after he realized the chapel just wasn't heating up
