this afternoon and this rainy weekend. this is what it looked like earlier today in richmond. light showers and slick roads. it's been raining off and on all day long. we want to check in with spencer christian right now to get an update on what's to come. is the rain over at this point? >> it's not over yet. not over yet. we're getting more scattered showers right now as opposed to the downpours we had earlier today, but it's still wet out there. here's a look at live doppler seven. you can see where the rain is. the entire area is not being hit by blanket rainfall. but as we close in a little bit on the central part of the bay area, you see little pockets of showers just moving on shore, mainly in the central part of the bay area, through the golden gate onto the peninsula in and around san francisco and oakland and the heaviest concentration right now is actually in the mountains around mount hamilton area and the east santa clara hills. so it's pretty wet over there, but it's moving away from the more densely populated areas. this is a level one storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale through tomorrow morning. we expect more light to moderate showers. there's a possibility still of an isolated

thunderstorm. it'll be breezy to gusty. here's that forecast animation. notice in the evening hours. still just widespread scattered showers. no heavy uh- extended downpours expected except an occasional brief downpour here and there. and by about midnight, we'll see the system weakening a bit, but then re-energizing tomorrow morning. that means more showers on the way. i'll have a look at tomorrow's rainfall and when we can expect some sunshine a little bit later. j.r. >> spencer, thank you so much. this weekend's storm is good news for the sierra. check out all the snow at the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab. they got more than a foot of snow and are expecting up to another foot in the next 24 hours. in the east bay, police are trying to find the person who shot and killed a woman at a gas station in east oakland. she was killed around 545 this morning at the quick serve on east 12th street, just off of 880. police have not released details on a suspect or what led up to this shooting. this is the final weekend

business for the in-n-out burger in oakland. it's the chain's first ever permanent closure. crime on the property and along hegenberger corridor is the reason behind it. other businesses in the area, including a subway and denny's, have also closed over safety concerns. those community concerns mean oakland's new police chief will have a lot of work to do when he comes to the bay area. floyd mitchell is expected to begin in may. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard spoke with advocates about what they believe mitchell's priorities should be a neighborhood day of action in west oakland, volunteers pitching in to clean up parts of 28th street near adeline, organized by grassroots nonprofit community ready corp. >> our belief is, is that it's our job to serve our communities. it's our job to clean up. if the city doesn't do it, we're going to do it. that's why my loyalty is to this. >> crc founder troc says his organization is also committed to making oakland streets safer

and preventing crime by investing in community based solutions. he hopes oakland's next police chief, floyd mitchell, will share the vision. >> if you do not plant seeds in this soil, the problem will keep going. no matter how many police chiefs we have, no matter who's in in the situation, what stands out about chief mitchell is that he's a strong leader and he's really smart. >> he's a really smart crime fighter who delivers results. >> on friday, mayor sheng tao announced floyd mitchell will be opd's next top cop, more than a year after former police chief lauren armstrong was fired. mitchell served 25 years on the police force in kansas city and then as police chief in both temple and lubbock, texas, where crime rates reportedly went down during his tenure. >> it's about reaching out and resourcing. it's not. it's about prevention and intervention, and that's the most important thing. >> message day one got to be oakland. tough to survive here. and, i'm ready to give him an

releasing liquid nitrogen into the air. six people were at the facility and we're told to evacuate. they were allowed back once the all clear was given a wild situation at a hotel in berkeley, police say a man walked inside and set the place on fire. happened at the aden hotel at sacramento street and university avenue around 11 a.m. investigators say a man dumped a jug of gasoline on the floor, lit the fire and ran off. no one was hurt, but the hotel is damaged and hundreds of people are spending their saturday walking nearly two dozen miles through the east bay. it's part of a protest calling for a ceasefire in the israel-hamas war. religious leaders across different faiths are leading the walk. they started in berkeley, and in a few hours they'll end the night in alameda. it's 22 miles the same distance people in gaza are walking to reach safety in rafah. >> this is a way for the faith

broke out as fans were waiting for a russian rock band to take the stage at crocus city concert hall. hundreds sheltering behind seats and running for the exits. you can see the gunman armed with assault rifles, the building then engulfed by fire, helicopters dropping water on the massive flames. russian authorities say all four attackers were detained near the ukrainian border, along with seven other suspected accomplices. the islamic terror group isis issuing a statement claiming responsibility for attacking a large gathering of christians and causing great destruction. the group also releasing a photo of the alleged attackers. this comes just two weeks after a rare alert from the u.s. state department warning of imminent risk of extremist attacks on concerts in moscow, russian officials telling state media the information was general authorities in russia have not confirmed if the attackers have ties to isis, but claimed they had contacts in ukraine. ukrainian officials denying any

services show more than 45 million people have coverage through the affordable care act's marketplace and medicaid expansion. president biden today signed the $1.2 trillion spending bill, ending the threat of a possible government shutdown. the house passed the bill yesterday, and the senate passed it early this morning. legislation funds federal agencies through the end of september. part of building a better bay area is highlighting organizations that lift up our neighbors when they need it most. tonight we're helping campo chizu as they give children with cancer a place to feel like kids again. the camp helps children with cancer and their families find support and escape. even after 2020, north complex fires destroyed their property. organizers are keeping the camp going, renting out other camp grounds while they look for a permanent new home. today on abc seven mornings, okayasu board chair anna brubaker shared the powerful impact of giving children a

what i mean. the showers are scattered about, although within these scattered showers there are some brief local downpours. so uh, if you're out and about this evening, you'll probably encounter some raindrops at some point. satellite radar composite image shows that center of low pressure to our north northwest spinning just offshore, and it's bringing in wave after wave of moisture. but again, the rain is relatively light. this is a level one storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale through tomorrow morning. we expect more light to moderate showers. there's still a possibility because of the atmosphere being unstable of an isolated thunderstorm or two, but not highly likely. so here's the forecast animation starting at 6 p.m. notice the system remains in scattered fashion as it swings through during the late night hours after midnight. we'll see the rainfall taper off just a little bit to more widely scattered light showers, but then it will re-energize tomorrow morning around 6 a.m. or so as we get more pockets of steadier, heavier rain swinging through the area. but that will

be in the early part of the day. by midday or afternoon tomorrow, we expect the system to start winding down and we'll get some partial clearing. rainfall totals from this storm by 6:00 tomorrow evening will generally be under a quarter of an inch, although there will be a few exceptions. san ramon and fremont about a third of an inch of rain from this system, and there will be some heavy snow in the sierra. in fact, a winter storm warning is in effect until 8 a.m. tomorrow for the western slopes of the sierra, where 1 to 2ft of snow could fall between 6000 and 7000ft. and of course, driving conditions will be difficult. it's pretty gusty right now along the coastline. in fact, many locations near the coast and the bay are receiving wind speeds right now of about 25 to 30mph. breezy inland, but not as gusty as it is near the coastline. and it's several degrees cooler in most bay area locations right now than it was at this time yesterday. so let's move along and take a look at current conditions in san francisco right now. 58 degrees. also upper 50s at half moon bay, san mateo and san jose, 60 at oakland and hayward. looking at a mixed sky conditions over the

golden gate. some blue and some clouds. other temperature readings right now. mid 50s at santa rosa, petaluma, napa. upper 50s at concord and fairfield. 61 and 54 at livermore. now tonight, as the scattered showers continue overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 40s. and then tomorrow look for a relatively cool day with high temperatures just above 60 degrees around the bay shoreline, inland east bay and down in the south bay. we'll see some low 60s and maybe even a couple of mid 60s at places like santa rosa and fairfield and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so we get some drier weather on monday and tuesday. and then on wednesday rain returns thursday showers, morning showers giving way to rainy and cooler conditions on friday. so even through as we go through the week, we'll see unsettled weather before we can expect any extended periods of dry weather. >> abc seven sports is sponsored by your northern california honda dealers. >> well, just a few weeks ago, it was a foregone conclusion that, at the very least, the warriors would make the play in
