>> but we have a few days before we get there. >> good morning! welcome to monday, march 25th. >> of course, we're going to start the check of our forecast with drew. >> yeah you're right. we dry out today. it's going to be nice today outside this morning. we do have a lot of that cloud cover still lingering from the weekend storm from the exploratorium camera. we do have partly to mostly cloudy skies out there this morning. so we will begin with temperatures in the 40s and in the 50s, 46 in saint helena. this morning, 50 in hayward, currently at 54, in san jose, 51. that current temperature in the city right now. here's how the day shakes out. we'll have a mixture of sun and clouds throughout the day. those clouds from time to time will give us mostly cloudy conditions. we'll get a little bit of sunshine here and there, but the takeaway today is that we are done with this weekend's wet weather. we do have a dry afternoon, temperatures slightly below average. we'll get into the upper 50s to the mid 60s for your daytime highs later on today. so looking across the board 62 in oakland but 59 in the city, 64 in san jose, 67 in santa rosa. rain does return later this week. we'll talk

about that in eight minutes. let's check in with gloria and see how the commute is going. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. so far, commute is looking pretty good out there in the bay area. this is our map showing all the roads here in the bay area. you can see mostly in the green. no major slowdowns other than that usual slow spot from tracy to livermore. and looking here at our live camera in san jose, you could see not too many cars out there on 87. right now, highway 87 is moving at the limit and you're right in the south bay is looking great on all of the highways, guys. >> thank you. gloria. oakland leaders are hoping the city's new police chief can convince local businesses to stay in oakland after the city's only in-n-out restaurant closed for good over the weekend. abc seven news reporter lena howland is here in lena. this is the first time in-n-out has ever closed one of its locations. >> kumasi. that's right, this restaurant first opened in 2005, but ongoing crime on the property and in the neighborhood left the burger chain, making the tough call to close over safety concerns. their final full day of business off of

hegenberger road brought in a long line of customers yesterday, from firefighters to young adults that had their first job here. this will warning signs to customers are still posted across the parking lot about not leaving anything of value in your car. city officials hope the incoming police chief can stop other businesses from packing up and leaving town. oakland mayor shang tao's office announced friday that floyd mitchell will begin his new role as opd chief in early may, making it far more than a year than that. oakland has been without a permanent chief. city council member noel gayo says he has expectations it's going to take, a strong police chief action, and working with our police department, the neighborhood, and make sure that this does not continue in a statement, in-n-out says we are grateful for the local community , which has supported us over 18 years. but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our customers and associates.

the company says employees can transfer to other restaurants or receive a severance package live in studio. lena howland, abc seven news thank you, lena. >> community members in the east bay are calling for police officers to stop responding to mental health emergencies. they held a vigil at lake merritt yesterday, two weeks after deputies in southern california shot and killed a 15 year old with autism. here's abc seven news reporter ryan curry. >> together we can raise our voices and demand justice for those who have been silenced. >> demanding change no longer does this group want to see disabled people of color killed by police, by fighting for a future where every individual is valued and respected. on march 9th, san bernardino sheriff deputies shot and killed 15 year old ryan gainer. he had been acting out that afternoon, and a family member called 911. ryan was autistic. body camera video shows ryan charging at a deputy carrying a gardening hoe. those deputies began shooting in oakland sunday. activists held a

vigil for him and other victims of police violence. they want one thing police to stop responding to a mental health crisis. >> we're calling for us to decriminalize mental health care, right? we're calling we're calling for us to decriminalize autism, right? because people are neurodivergent. it's not a death sentence. ryan's family now have an attorney and will possibly sue the county. >> guess who had to tell my sister that her baby was dead? >> i did his case especially hits home for tom hall. >> walnut creek police killed her son myles in 2019 while he was experiencing a mental health issue. >> well, you know, it's very similar to myles. myles had a garden tool. myles thought he was, you know, a, he had the staff from god. you know he was in a mental health emergency. so was ryan. ryan was autistic. you know all he needed was help. >> she is calling for the need of trained mental health professionals who can respond to these calls. she believes her son and ryan should still be alive when something is a medical condition, which is autism and mental health. >> we shouldn't rely on police

to come and be the first responders. >> a new police chief is ready to take over the city of oakland. those at lake merritt sunday want this chief to understand the differences in catching criminals and responding to mental health emergencies. >> anyone coming into oakland, you know, interested in public safety, what they need to know is how we keep us safe here in the city and how we invest in programs that are affirmative, that are life giving, right, that treat people with respect and dignity in oakland. >> ryan curry, abc seven news, the billionaire backed group that wants to build a new city in solano county, says its opponents are spreading misinformation. >> it has to do with people gathering signatures to get the project on november's ballot, according to sfgate. some people say the signature gatherers are misrepresenting the measure as being for better roads, or to protect cuts to benefits. in a statement on its website, the group california forever says it's not true. the statement says signature gatherers are provided with a fact sheet. the group also posted a photo of the

signature form showing the text that says the ballot measure is to rezone farmland and to develop a new community. developing news this morning, former president donald trump faces a deadline today to post a bond of nearly half $1 billion in his fraud case. and if he doesn't post it, he's risking having his assets seized. >> good morning kumasi donald trump is demanding new york keep its hands off trump tower as the state gears up to potentially seize some of his assets. a new york judge found trump and his adult sons overstated the value of nearly every major property they own to get more favorable loans, and other advantages. attorney general letitia james has said the court could start seizing trump's assets as soon as today, if he fails to secure a $464 million bond. trump's lawyers have said he does not have the cash his lawyers have said he can cover at most about a quarter of the civil fraud judgment, and anything more they said would be a practical impossibility.

issue on the line. >> the fight back calls sunday from the front of the san francisco federal building to protect access to abortion pills . the supreme court is set to hear oral arguments tuesday on a drug called mifepristone, used in the majority of abortions nationwide. >> what we're concerned about is that, given the supreme court's past record, any thing is possible. >> alliance for hippocratic medicine v fda is the court's first case involving abortion, since they overturned roe v wade in 2022. the justices will consider rolling back the food and drug administration's approval for the drug to be dispensed by mail, and for nurses to prescribe it, as well as allowing women to take it ten weeks into pregnancy. >> the lower court of appeals, uh, essentially rescinded some power in earlier regulations of the food and drug administration . petitioners, the fda, the biden administration. others are arguing that that is

medical center in daly city will begin a two day picket over concerns about their health care coverage. workers say the hospital's new health care plan costs them more, and they can't find doctors who take the insurance. the hospital's owner refutes that claim. they tell abc seven news the health care plan remains free for employees and their immediate families. more than 400 workers are expected to walk off the job, including nursing assistants, housekeepers and medical technicians. >> happening tonight high ranking members of congress will be hearing concerns from residents over a number of questionable incidents at local refineries. congressman mark desaulnier is hosting a town hall at john muir elementary school. it starts at 630. his office says recent safety incidents at two separate refineries in martinez have prompted this discussion, and one of them includes the martinez refining company. there have been dozens of reported releases of hazardous ash into the surrounding areas. now here is a live look this morning from

the bay bridge toll plaza. there is a new warning about text messages trying to imitate fastrak toll invoices. now, this has happened before. around of fake texts from fastrak went out last month. according to the chronicle. another volley of texts have gone out in the past week and this time the fraudsters have fixed the spelling and the grammatical errors in the text, making them look a bit more convincing. the mtc says fastrak will never text you demanding payment if you do respond by mistake, contact your credit card issuer or your bank immediately. the commission believes an international fraud ring may be behind this. >> the 27th sonoma international film festival is now in the books. the five day festival wrapped up yesterday and broke attendance records for a second year straight. organizers predict attendance will be up another 10% this year. the festival ended with an awards brunch at the fairmont sonoma mission inn and spa this year, there were 107 films, 43 narrative features, 16 documentary features and 48 short films from more than 25

abc news reporter perry russom explains isis is claiming responsibility as vladimir putin accuses ukraine of being involved. a warning that some of these images are disturbing. >> this morning, russia continues to question who was behind the deadly concert hall attack in moscow. four men have been charged, all from tajikistan. their faces bruised and swollen in court. this man apparently unconscious as isis claims responsibility for the attack. on friday, russian president vladimir putin claims without evidence the men were headed to ukraine, where people there were preparing to let them cross the border. vice president kamala harris with abc's rachel scott. >> does the us have any evidence to back that up? >> no. there is no whatsoever any evidence. and in fact, what we know to be the case is that isis is actually, by all accounts, responsible for what happened. >> ukraine has repeatedly denied playing any role. on saturday, a us state department official said the us did share

was too ambiguous and it did not reflect a direct demand to end fighting in gaza. japan's prime minister has proposed a summit with north korean leader kim jong un. according to kim's sister and senior official kim yo jong. she says the meeting would depend on japan's tolerance toward north korea's weapons programs. both countries are also engaged in a long standing dispute over past abductions of japanese citizens. the last meeting between both leaders of north korea and japan was in 2004. >> police are investigating after a deadly shooting in san francisco's portola neighborhood . officers got a call around 9 p.m. last night of reports of a shooting at a home near dwight and girard streets. that's roughly a half a mile away from john mclaren park. two victims were found shot inside the home. they were pronounced dead. it's unclear who shot them and no arrests have been made. oakland's only in-n-out restaurant is no more. it's shut

down over the weekend over concerns of rising crime in the area. abc seven news reporter leana howland is here now to tell us more about the closure. they're getting ready to welcome a new police chief. >> hey, richie, that's right. as in-n-out joins a growing list of restaurants leaving the city over rising crime, oakland mayor shang tao just announced on friday that she has tapped former lubbock, texas, police chief floyd mitchell for the job. the mayor's office says that mitchell has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement, and is expected to begin leading opd in early may, marking more than a year for the city of oakland without a top cop. tao says chief mitchell's strategy of strong officer community engagement vaulted him to the top of the list. on in-n-out's final full day of business in oakland, city officials told us they hope the incoming police chief can stop other businesses from packing up and leaving town. this restaurant first opened in 2005, but ongoing crime on the property and in the neighborhood left the burger chain, making

antlers near the el dorado national forest. >> about 52 miles northeast of sacramento. deputies say the 21 year old was found dead with a mountain lion nearby 30 minutes after his brother called 911. the mountain lion was facing the deputies and in an attempt to get to the individual to render first aid, they discharged their firearms. california's fish and wildlife calling it the first fatal mountain lion attack in northern california. in 20 years. but residents say seeing mountain lions in the area is common. >> we're overpopulated with them by all means. yeah so they used to be hunted back in when i was a kid up here, we'd go hunting and they banned the hunting on them, and we were overpopulated. yeah, the sightings nonstop up here. now. see him in packs 2 or 3. and that was that. wasn't that wasn't common. >> the 18 year old was taken to the hospital game wardens recovering the body of the mountain lion. zohreen shah, abc news, los angeles.

it is quiet out there this morning, but we still have mostly cloudy skies up above. looking at the pollen forecast, little has changed over the last week. tree pollen still running at high levels. oak, sycamore and pine are the top allergens this week. look at the morning rush. no issues with wet weather. you can see future weather showing you a lot of cloud cover this morning. limited sunshine, early on, temperatures starting out in the 50s. by about 9:10 a.m. we'll start to see a little bit of sunshine break through that cloud cover. however, temperatures are slow to warm today, barely into the mid 50s. by 11 a.m. here's live doppler seven, along with satellite. it's really quiet across california this morning we got rid of our storm system that brought more than an inch of rain in spots over the weekend. you could see some clouds will stream in from time to time today, so we'll call it partly sunny for our monday, but we are dry today. breaking down region by region. you can see early on we do have a lot of cloud cover giving way to some sunshine throughout the afternoon. temperatures today below average
