news, new york. >> president joe biden proclaimed today, march 31st, as transgender day of visibility. the occasion is usually marked on this day each year, but that decision is now being criticized by some republicans today because today is also easter, a christian holiday. in a statement, former president donald trump called the move appalling and insulting. transgender day of visibility began in 2009 as a day to celebrate transgender people and recognize the discrimination they may face. biden issues a proclamation march 31st every year and new overnight. the white house has now issued a statement in response to the trump criticism. it says in part, as a christian who celebrates easter with family, president biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every american. developing news now at least two people died after a small plane crashed as it was trying to land at the truckee airport on saturday. it's not clear how

many people were on board. witnesses reported seeing a fireball at the time of the crash, and emergency crews quickly put out the flames. power lines came crashing down, but thankfully no one on the ground was hurt. the crash site is blocked off in the airport, is now closed until 7 a.m. today we're learning more about a story we first told you about on abc seven mornings. a san francisco community wants answers after multiple fires broke out at two separate places on the same block within 24 hours. saint john the evangelist episcopal church was damaged early friday morning by a suspicious fire. the other fire happened saturday morning at a residential building on 15th and y streets. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke to people worried and arsonist may be targeting their neighborhood. >> flames ripped through mission district apartment buildings early saturday morning, injuring two people and displaced ten more. the fire, about a block away from saint john evangelist episcopal church, where about 24

hours earlier, another fire forced it to shut the doors of its daytime shelter. >> we were worried that it was the church again, that someone had come back and wanted to finish the job that they had started the night before. >> investigators now saying the church fire was set on purpose and they're looking for a suspect. >> we were lucky that the extent of our damage wasn't as bad as it could have been, but looking at our neighbor's building, it looks pretty bad. so i'm i don't know when those people will be able to go back. >> daylight exposing the damage from saturday's early morning fire building seemingly gutted. >> so initial reports told us that uh- vehicles on fire had spread to the buildings. the flames had spread up the back of the buildings. these are what we consider uh- ordinary construction or wood frame buildings. these are older buildings. they catch on fire and spread very quickly. more than 100 firefighters battling to keep the blaze from engulfing nearby buildings, hitting too close to home for some. >> julian hatfield lives just

zephyr cove and you see the snow coming down. the snow pack is expected to get help from this latest storm. statewide, it's 105% of normal for this time of year, and the snow pack of course, is vital to the state's water supply. so two wet winters in a row has certainly helped erase years of drought conditions and a similar story here in the bay area. but today we get a break. i'm going to send it over to my fellow easter egg. full disclosure we did not plan this, but here we are. >> yeah, with our peep colors, right? right. yeah, it just seemed appropriate, right? yeah. and we've had a couple nice days and kind of going back to some cooler weather. well, this week will be no different. even though starting a new month, we're going to be on the warm side for monday and tuesday compared to how it's been. but don't get too used to it. it looks like some cooler weather, even rain returning before the week is out. 655 the official sunrise setting at 732, and we've got a decent day out there

to start. but you know, unfortunately that cold air aloft is still with us, even though you see that circulation. well to the south of us off southern california, still influencing our weather. we get in closer and it's quiet here in the bay area. but stephanie talked about our winter storm warning through 11:00 for the greater lake tahoe area. yosemite could pick up a half a foot through 5:00, but just a couple of inches left over at 28 and 30 degrees. now, blue canyon, the tahoe valley airport snowing pretty good. so a little bit more to come there. 50 in hayward it is 46 in fremont. so temperatures are cool starting out in the upper 40s. for many of us that uh- as we go through the eight 9:00 hour, a mix of clouds and sun, and still certainly on the cool side with temperatures just in the low 50s and afternoon highs today running shy of average. our headlines then sun and cloud mix today and looking for that chance of showers in the hills. the afternoon hours we'll say the diablo range and concord.

yesterday was belmont the peninsula but even napa today could see a shower late day. but then as we get into monday and tuesday, high pressure builds in. it will be sunny and warmer. so monday, tuesday, one of the warmer days depends on where you are. and then by wednesday everyone cools off. thursday and friday the rain returns. the weekend looks like another system on sunday. saturday could be a break. so here come the low clouds and fog from the north bay to the peninsula. and then you'll see some of the clouds build up in the upper elevations throughout the afternoon. and then this high resolution model wants to bring in some showers sinking down from the south. you'll see that line there throughout the late afternoon, and then they disappear as that sun sets. so amounts will be light, but it can't say we won't see any rain at all. there is still that possibility out there . so 15 to 25 mile an hour winds making for a breezy afternoon. look how nice it is for your tuesday upper 60s to mid 70s for most cool at the coast. wednesday begins to cool quickly and then by thursday no one gets

earlier and does not appear to include financial information or call history. the discovery was made on a hacking forum nearly two weeks ago. this morning we want to tell you about a plan in oakland. four of the city's largest companies are now teaming up to keep their workers safe as they travel through downtown. it's a mlion plan from p-g-and-e's kaiser, clorox and blue shield. abc7 news reporter suzanne phan has more. >> blue shield of california kaiser permanente, pacific gas and electric, and clorox. they're all headquartered in downtown oakland. in january, blue shield and kaiser told employees to stay on site and not to leave for lunch because of concerns about crime. clorox and blue shield offered employees security escorts to their car, bart, or a location within two blocks. now, the company's ceos are joining forces to make downtown oakland safer for their employees. our

first obligation to our employees is to ensure that they are safe, the ceo and president of blue shield explains the three basic components of the new $10 million plan. >> we're using off-duty oakland police officers to increase the feet on the street. security in the downtown oakland area. >> secondly, there will be an ambassador program that allows people to get escorts to and from work. >> finally, there's a shared transportation system that we are setting up with mini busses, where people can move, for example, from public transportation or get a ride from public transportation. >> like many other cities, oakland is dealing with budget cuts and challenges, with hiring more officers. mayor shengtao says she is so grateful for the deep collaboration with our four largest employers during this time of change and opportunity in oakland, and see this as an example of strong public, private partnership. the new program will be rolled out in

good morning, everybody. thank you for being with us on this holiday weekend. lisa is here tracking your easter sunday forecast. >> it's so not planned. >> i like your color though i will say we clearly both like it. yeah feels like easter and april and the easter egg hunt, right? >> as we look at mount tam. pretty ominous with the clouds, but the sun coming up, so that's a pretty sight there. 52 degrees san francisco. it is 50 in hayward with upper 40s, san mateo, half moon bay, a cool 46. in just a second ago. the snow is coming down pretty good here at zephyr cove, so still a winter storm warning through 11:00 for the greater lake tahoe area. while we are in the mid to upper 40s locally. and as we go through the next couple of hours near 50 degrees, eight 8:00 9:00, some low 50s. look at the fog though, coming back to the marin county coast, the san mateo coast, it's sunny to partly cloudy and then stopping

this at 5:00. that line of showers just does not want to leave us from napa to concord, even up through santa rosa, maybe healdsburg. so we are not eliminating the shower chance today, but most of us remain dry. we'll talk about a much warmer day to start the workweek as soon as tomorrow. stephanie. >> lisa, thank you. breaking overnight. at least seven children are hurt after a shooting in downtown indianapolis, where a large group was gathered. police say they're between the ages of 12 and 17. it's unclear what led up to the shooting or how many people opened fire. officers say six children were sent to the hospital, and a seventh child arrived to a hospital later on. as of this morning, no suspects are in custody. we'll be following this closely. new. this morning, negotiators of a cease fire between hamas and israel are expected to resume today in cairo. this is according to the egyptian state run media. egypt and the united arab emirates are reportedly

at 637. >> now to the effort to reduce the city's homeless population and build a better bay area, san francisco's board of supervisors voted to expand a program that would help unhoused people leave for good by offering them bus tickets. abc seven news reporter lyanne melendez has this update. >> the concept of putting people on a bus to reunite with friends and family is not new. >> for less than a few hundred dollars, we give them a ticket. majority are from are from other parts of california. and again it's voluntary. >> the program to help the unhoused find their way back home is and for decades has been called homeward bound. and abc seven news has been reporting on it since the early 2000. >> san francisco's department of human services has a program to encourage out of state transients to take a free trip home, but not many people want

to go. >> san francisco supervisor and mayoral candidate ahsha safai proposed revising and rebranding the program after it moved from one city department to another, and its numbers went down. so you said there's nobody there hasn't been anybody to mind the program? >> absolutely. i mean, last year in hsa, only 12 people took advantage of homeward bound when in the past they were doing over a like 1800 to 1000 a year. >> the issue has now become a political hotbed. mark farrell, who is also running for mayor, posted, quote, mayor breed, let the program wither to a shell of its former self serving nearly three times fewer people. but it's well known among nonprofits that the program was hit hard during covid. public transportation wasn't accessible . >> you know, we weren't able to put people on busses and get them to where they they wanted to go. >> also during the pandemic, the homeless became more isolated and the use of fentanyl
