gathered at the more than 103 foot tall cross on mount davidson to mark the holiday and participate in the sunrise service. the mass is hosted by the regional chapter of armenian american organizations. travel is picking up as people at airports or on the roads arrive to their easter and spring break destinations. you're looking at a live picture now from sfo. this busy travel comes as we get closer to the total solar eclipse. abc news reporter chuck sivertsen has more on the busiest days expected in the skies. reporter tamara. >> airports across the country have been filled with large crowds as travelers hit the sky to reach their easter or spring break destinations on thursday, tsa says it screened 2.7 million passengers, the most so far this year and the largest number since the winter holiday season last year. in addition to large crowds, there have been some other issues affecting airline

passengers. on friday, a united flight from tel aviv to newark was forced to make an emergency landing in orange county, new york, due to severe turbulence, and they said the flight was pretty rough coming in to newark, but we had multiple ambulances here from new windsor and multiple surrounding agencies. in a statement, united saying one passenger deplane due to a medical incident and a few other customers were seen by medical personnel for possible motion sickness. the high travel volume is expected to continue as thousands travel to cities in the path of the upcoming total eclipse of the sun, the faa says the busiest day next week will be thursday, april 4th, with more than 50,000 flights set to take off, so you can expect some limited parking. >> even delays at airports right along the eclipse path from texas to maine. >> for those choosing to drive to their destinations, they're going to find higher prices at the pump. according to the faa, the national average for a gallon of gas is now 353. about $0.24 more than just one month ago, and about $0.10 higher than

last year. chuck sivertsen, abc news, new york. president joe biden proclaimed today, march 31st, as transgender day of visibility. >> the occasion is usually marked on this day each year, but that decision is now being criticized by some republicans because today is also easter. a christian holiday. in a statement, former president donald trump called the move appalling and insulting. transgender day of visibility began in 2009 as a day to celebrate transgender people and recognize the discrimination they may face. biden issues a proclamation march 31st every year. now new overnight, the white house has issued a statement in response to the trump criticism. it says in part, as a christian who celebrates easter with family, president biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every american. to developing news now, we're learning the identities of the two people killed after a small plane crashed as it was trying

to land at the truckee airport yesterday. lauren and naomi petrushka from israel, had been living in california in recent years, according to israeli media. they are now survived by four children. witnesses reported seeing a fireball at the time of the crash, and emergency crews quickly put out the flames. power lines came crashing down, but thankfully no one was on the ground and was hurt. we're learning more about a story we first told you about on abc seven mornings. a san francisco community wants answers. after multiple fires broke out at two separate places on the same block within 24 hours. saint john the evangelist's episcopal church was damaged early friday morning by a suspicious fire. the other fire happened saturday morning at a residential building on 15th and wise streets. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke to people worried and arsonist may be targeting their neighborhood. >> flames ripped through mission district apartment buildings

early saturday morning, injuring two people and displacing ten more. the fire, about a block away from saint john evangelist episcopal church, where about 24 hours earlier, another fire forced it to shut the doors of its daytime shelter. >> we were worried that it was the church again, that someone had come back and wanted to finish the job that they had started the night before. >> investigators is now saying the church fire was set on purpose, and they're looking for a suspect. >> we were lucky that the extent of our damage wasn't as bad as it could have been, but looking at our neighbor's building, it looks pretty bad. so i'm i don't know when those people will be able to go back. daylight exposing the damage from saturday's early morning fire. >> building seemingly gutted. >> so initial reports told us that uh- vehicles on fire had spread to the buildings. the flames had spread up the back of the buildings. these are what we consider ordinary construction or wood frame buildings. these are older builds. they catch on fire and spread very quickly.

>> more than 100 firefighters battling to keep the blaze from engulfing nearby buildings, hitting too close to home for some. julian hatfield lives just three doors down. >> yeah, i mean two, two fires in the street and two nights is obviously alarming and yeah, not not a great not a great place to be uh- staying at the moment. >> as for the cause of saturday's fire investigators are still trying to determine whether it was intentional. but the reverend says he wouldn't be surprised if the two are connected the same block, the same time, like setting the fire at almost exactly the same time. >> uh- and the night after. it seems like too much to be coincidence. >> tara campbell abc seven news. >> we're following new developments in the effort to keep the a's in oakland. abc seven news has learned the city will make an offer to extend the team's lease for up to five years. now, the a's lease at the coliseum expires at the end of this season, but its new stadium in las vegas won't be ready for another three years. the team is
