says pope francis called for a ceasefire between israel and hamas during his traditional easter message at the vatican francis addressed the conflicts in the middle east and europe, condemning war as an absurdity. the pope has been forced to skip recent events or limit his speaking due to poor health. but on easter sunday, the most important day in the christian calendar, he delivered his full easter blessing and appeared in good spirits. president joe biden proclaimed today, march 31st, as transgender day of visibility, but that decision is being criticized by some republicans because today, of course, is also easter. the two days only coincide this year, by chance, former president donald trump called the move, quote unquote, appalled and insulting. house speaker mike johnson said the biden administration had, quote, betrayed the central tenet of easter. transgender day of visibility began in 2009 as a

day to celebrate transgender people and recognize the discrimination they may face developing. right now, we are learning about the two people killed when a small plane crashed while trying to land at the truckee airport saturday, li, ron and naomi pietruszka are from israel and had been living in california in recent years. that is according to israeli media flightaware shows the plane to parted from an airport near denver, colorado, and plane lines, power lines, i should say, came crashing down, but no one on the ground was hurt. the patricias were tech entrepreneurs and investors and invested in the venture capital firm up west, based in palo alto. the fund released this photo of liron petrushka, and the couple is survived by four children. starting tomorrow, pay for fast food workers in california will go up to $20 an hour. abc's jaclyn lee explains how some business owners are considering layoffs or closing

locations to save on costs. >> some fast food workers in california will soon be making at least $20 an hour, the highest minimum wage within the restaurant industry. set to begin monday. >> this is a start to improve the wages and also improve the working conditions in the industry. >> this is a $4 increase from the current minimum wage in the golden state, meaning some workers will make 25% more on their paychecks. advocates say it's about time, given the extremely high cost of living and inflation, more and more folks are unable to raise bigger families or at least, you know, put themselves in a position to retire. effectively. the new law impacts more than half a million workers in california, and only affects fast food chains. with at least 60 locations nationwide , and some small business owners worry they won't be able to compete with the wage increase. >> that's going to impact us by an increase of $470,000 annually. across those ten stores. it means that we have to

raise prices, which we don't want to do. >> two pizza hut franchises in california reportedly laid off 1200 in-house delivery drivers in preparation for the new minimum wage hike. carrie harper howie owns 21 mcdonald's and says she does not anticipate closing any locations. >> the bottom line is everyone is not going to be able to afford even the measured and carefully thought out price changes that we are going to be implementing as a necessary part of us responding to the increase, starbucks saying in a statement they plan to offset the minimum wage increase by changing their pricing, as well as other efficiencies in their stores. >> mcdonald's saying they'll provide price recommendations as this law goes into effect tomorrow. there are some exceptions for bakeries and smaller fast food stores that you find inside airports and grocery stores. jaclyn lee, abc news, los angeles starting tomorrow, an e.r. on the peninsula will be closed through december. >> seton medical center

coastside, will be closed for renovations, and during that closure, the closest emergency services will be at san mateo medical center's emergency room, about 20 minutes away. abc seven news was in moss beach and reported on the storm damage caused by fallen trees. earlier this month, a seton spokesperson says the building suffered significant water damage. moving on to a developing story now in monterey county, a partial collapse of highway one has stranded some 2000 people. caltrans says the highway is closed in both directions at rocky creek bridge, and you can see why part of the southbound lane just crumbled away yesterday. crews say the northbound lane is too unstable to remain open. big sur lodge opened a conference room for people who were stuck overnight due to the slide. the chp is now leading convoys under close supervision on the northbound lane in the north bay. easter brunch plans at restaurants in healdsburg were delayed during a

power outage. the city says a major electrical outage occurred in the downtown area late this morning. some traffic lights were affected, and some people in the area say they were turned away by restaurants that didn't have power. there are reports that a power line was down as well. at last report. crews say that power was back up by 2 p.m. work is now underway to remove the wreckage at the baltimore bridge collapse site. this is going to be a long road. >> it's a very complex operation. >> maryland's governor explains why it is such a difficult process. the big worry for crews and thieves strike for the third time at the only grocery store in one san francisco neighborhood, and this burglary took some muscle. >> i'm spencer christian. looking at a sunny easter sunday for most of us, but a little stormy in some spots. i'll have the accuweather forecast coming up when

baltimore started clearing the first pieces of the francis scott key bridge. today they're trying to open up a temporary channel so more boats can get close to the wreckage. it is a complicated and slow process. crews have to clear the bridge one piece at a time, with checks from engineers and divers in between each one. they are worried about the ship buried underneath where the bridge moving further out into the channel and could destabilize the entire thing. >> we have a ship that is nearly the size of the eiffel tower that is now stuck within the channel that has the key bridge

sitting on top of it. >> divers are on standby to recover the bodies of four of the six people killed in the collapse. there is still no timeline for reopening the harbor or rebuilding the bridge. thieves struck treasure island's only grocery store for the third time this year. it happened at the island cove market early saturday morning, where the owner heard the alarm and saw on his security video. three men drive up in a hummer. they broke the windows with crowbars and used cables to pull out the doors and the security gate. the atm was also tied to a cable and hauled out of the store. >> is really, really frustrating to see this happen. i don't know what else to do. i had a scissor gate. i have bollards that was very costly to put up and i don't know what else to put in there to stop this. >> the owner is still processing the damage despite the robberies. he wants to find a way to stay in the treasure island community. for tickets sold in california came oh

>> is that beautiful? yeah. lots of blue sky today. just as we expected it to be. there are a couple of stormy spots though on the radar. i'll show you right now. here's live doppler seven. now these are excuse me. not in the central immediate bay area, but they are in the bay area, over in the inland east bay near brentwood. antioch, out towards tracy and altamont. we've had a couple little storm cells moving through the area, producing some heavy downpours. they're moving rapidly and changing their locations even as we speak, so they won't last very long. down in the santa cruz mountains, this cell has been sort of stationary for the last few minutes, producing some heavy rainfall as well. it's away from the most densely populated area, so it's west of morgan hill and san martin. but it's raining nonetheless. so when we go to our futurecast showing our forecast animation for the evening and overnight hours, spotty showers developing over in the inland east bay, they will disappear by about nine 10:00 tonight, giving way to clearing skies overnight leading into a sunny day tomorrow. right now we're looking at fairly breezy to gusty conditions, especially near the coast and bay, with gusts over 25mph in some spots. nice view from emeryville. looking a westward 56 degrees here in san francisco. oakland 5960 hayward

66 at san jose, mid to upper 50s at san mateo and half moon bay. blue sky and breezy conditions at the golden gate as well. the temperature readings at this hour up in the north bay. santa rosa 64 a cool 57 at petaluma 64. napa 59. fairfield and low to mid 60s at concord and livermore. let's check out our forecast. at a few clouds off to the east, they're looking down onto san francisco from sutro tower. overnight, it will be mostly clear and breezy next two days, sunny and much warmer, but by the end of the week we'll see rain returning to the bay area. tonight. look for clear skies generally overnight. low temperatures, mainly in the mid to upper 40s. a little chilly in some spots farther inland like lakeport, with a low of 41, livermore a low of 42, then tomorrow, bright sunny skies and mild conditions with high temperatures reaching 7666. rather, in san francisco, 69 over in oakland, inland areas will see highs in the low 70s. and here is the accuweather 70
