transgender day of visibility began in 2009 as a day to celebrate transgender people and recognize the discrimination they may face. developing right now, we are learning about two people killed in a plane crash while trying to land at the truckee airport saturday. lauren and naomi petrushka are from israel and had been living in california in recent years. that is according to israeli media. flightaware shows the plane departed from an airport near denver, colorado, and power lines came crashing down, but no one on the ground was hurt. the petrushka's were tech entrepreneurs and invested in the venture capital firm up west, based in palo alto. the fund released this photo of lauren today. the couple is survived by four children. starting tomorrow, pay for fast food workers in california will go up to $20 an hour. abc's jacqueline lee explains how some business owners are now considering layoffs or closing locations to save on costs. >> some fast food workers in

california will soon be making at least $20 an hour. the highest minimum wage within the restaurant industry. set to begin monday. >> this is a start to improve the wages and also improve the working conditions in the industry. >> this is a $4 increase from the current minimum wage in the golden state, meaning some workers will make 25% more on their paychecks. advocates say it's about time, given the extremely high cost of living and inflation, more and more folks are unable to raise bigger families or at least, you know, put themselves in a position to retire. effectively, the new law impacts more than half a million workers in california and only affects fast food chains with at least 60 locations nationwide. some small business owners worry they won't be able to compete with the wage increase that's going to impact us by an increase of $470,000 annually. >> across those ten stores. it means that we have to raise prices, which we don't want to

do. >> two pizza hut franchises in california reportedly laid off 1200 in-house delivery drivers in preparation for the new minimum wage hike. carrie harper howie owns 21 mcdonald's and says she does not anticipate closing any locations. >> the bottom line is everyone is not going to be able to afford even the measured and carefully thought out price changes that we are going to be implementing as a necessary part of us responding to the increase . >> starbucks saying in a statement they plan to offset the minimum wage increase by changing their pricing as well as other efficiencies in their stores. mcdonald's saying they'll provide price recommendations. this law goes into effect tomorrow. there are some exceptions for bakeries and smaller fast food stores that you find inside airports and grocery stores. jacqueline lee, abc news, los angeles. >> starting tomorrow, an air on the peninsula will be closed through december. seton medical center coastside will be closed for renovations now. during that

closure, the closest emergency services will be at san mateo medical center's e.r, about 20 minutes away. abc seven news was in moss beach and reported on the storm damage caused by fallen trees earlier this month. a seton spokesperson says the building suffered significant water damage. moving on to a developing story now in monterey county, a partial collapse of highway one has stranded some 2000 odd people. caltrans says the highway is closed in both directions at rocky creek bridge, and you can see why they're part of the southbound lane just crumbled away yesterday. crews say the northbound lane is just too unstable to remain open. big sur lodge opened a conference room for people who were stuck overnight due to the slide. the chp is now leading convoys under close supervision on the northbound lane. work is now underway to remove the wreckage at the baltimore bridge collapse site. >> this is going to be a long road. it's a very complex operation. >> maryland's governor explains

join us. after this week's deadly bridge collapse, crews in baltimore started clearing the first pieces of the francis scott key bridge. today they are trying to open up a temporary channel so more boats can get close to the wreckage. it is a complicated and slow process. crews have to clear the bridge one piece at a time, with checks from engineers and divers between each one. they are worried about the ship buried underneath the bridge, moving further out into the channel and destabilizing the entire thing. >> we have a ship that is nearly the size of the eiffel tower that is now stuck within the channel that has the key bridge sitting on top of it. >> divers are on standby to recover the bodies of four of the six people killed in the collapse. there is still no timeline for reopening the

harbor or rebuilding the bridge. thieves struck treasure island's only grocery store for the third time this year. it happened at the island cove market early saturday morning. the owner heard the alarm and saw on his security video. three men drive up in a hummer. they broke the windows with crowbars and used cables to pull the doors and security gate. the atm was also tied to a cable and hauled out of the store. >> is really, really frustrating to see this happen. i don't know what else to do. i had a scissor gate. i have bollards that was very costly to put up and i don't know what else to put in there to stop this. >> the owner is still processing the damage despite the robberies. he wants to find a way to stay in the treasure island community. for tickets sold in california came oh so close to winning that huge powerball jackpot. just how much is up for grabs in tomorrow's draw? and a longtime san francisco cabaret was set to close for good today. but the
