change goes through, city leaders say it will cause confusion for people who may fly into the wrong airport. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez joins us live with this possible fight. hi, gloria. >> hey, good morning reggie. the port of oakland board of commissioners is set to meet on thursday to consider changing oakland international airport's name to san francisco bay. oakland international airport. and it's those words san francisco bay that have san francisco officials threatening to sue oakland airport officials are hoping that the name change would help travelers understand. there is another airport in the san francisco area, and possibly bring more tourists to the east bay, but san francisco officials believe it will lead to confusion and they say the name will violate trademarks held by sfo. city attorney david hsu has gone as far as sending a warning letter to the port of oakland. >> we also believe the currently proposed name infringes on sfo's trademarks. sfo has been in operation for almost a century,

since 1927, we've used san francisco international airport or san francisco airport throughout most of that history, adding san francisco to it certainly makes it more attractive or more recognizable to those that are traveling. >> traveling from out of the state, out of the country. >> in a statement on monday, the port doubling down on the proposal, saying that will clarify, not confuse is the new name identifies where okay is actually located, which is on the san francisco bay. if the proposed name modification is approved by the board, the port will take all appropriate measures to defend its right to use this accurate geographic identifier. but a travel industry analyst and marketing expert says a name change would cause confusion for travelers, saying many people might even accidentally fly to the wrong airport port kumasi. >> thank you gloria. breaking overnight shots ring out in a usually quiet part of contra

costa county. amanda is at the live desk with what we know. amanda. >> yeah, this all happened overnight in rodeo. we have video showing investigators combing the scene on napa avenue and mariposa avenue just after midnight. you can see the evidence markers all over the street in the video. you can also see deputies look at vehicles that have some sort of gun damage to them. at this time, we don't know how many people were shot or even if anybody was hurt. deputies tell us the shooting near rodeo grocer and liquor. that's where it was located. that's what they say. it's unclear what may have led up to the shooting. we have reached out to contra costa county sheriff's deputies for more information, and we'll let you know when we hear back. kumasi >> thanks, amanda. happening today, u.s. health and human services secretary xavier becerra is coming to the bay area to talk about the biden administration's efforts to expand health care access for the latino community. the sierra will be highlighting affordable health care options at a roundtable discussion in oakland, and there he'll be meeting with local health care

burn truck out of the tunnel. nobody was hurt in the north bay. >> we are learning. two people facing charges for a chop shop operation this morning in sonoma county. investigators with the chp and sonoma county sheriff's office arrested the men last month after searching a vehicle repair shop in santa rosa and they say they found dozens of cars and trucks, seven of them listed as stolen. parts of the vehicles had been removed, several had altered vin numbers, so now detectives are asking anyone who may have more information to give them a call. >> the slow economic recovery of downtown san francisco has the attention of other california city leaders, who are dealing with much of the same thing san francisco mayor london breed met with the mayors of sacramento, long beach and riverside at the state capitol yesterday for the first legislative hearing on california's post-pandemic recovery. mayor breed expressed support for a series of bills created by barrie lawmakers, which would encourage renewed investment in downtown san

francisco. the ceo of san francisco's union square alliance was also there and says the meeting gave her hope. >> bar and restaurant boom in union square were actually expecting quite a few more announcements of new restaurants this year and into next year. >> mayor breed told the group both violent crime and property crime downtown are improving. she says it's the shift to remote work that remains the biggest reason for the slow recovery. >> new. this morning, pfizer just released new data about its rsv vaccine and amanda, that data suggests a shot could help younger adults with underlying medical conditions. >> kumasi pfizer tested its vaccine in people ages 18 to 59 with underlying medical conditions. researchers saw the vaccine produced a similar response and side effect profile as in prior studies, they say the vaccine was well tolerated and demonstrated an immune response no different to adults ages 60 and older. the company plans to ask the fda for approval based on these results,

san antonio road near the novato dumps, a three car crash is blocking one lane there. traffic is almost backed up from petaluma boulevard south back to the desk. >> take a look at this video from new zealand. a freak crash sent a race car over the fence and into the stands. one car hit another. it sent it flying to where the spectators. luckily, all the fans got out of the way. the driver was shaken up, of course, but they also got out and they're all right. what happened is still under investigation. the taxi industry in san francisco continues to experience hardship as part of building a better bay area. we want to focus on the medallion owners and how they are doing. the drivers will tell you that the medallion program is broken. for those who aren't familiar with this, taxi medallions look like many license plates. they cost $250,000. here's how it started.

before uber and lyft existed, the demand for more taxis grew in san francisco. in 2009, then mayor gavin newsom came up with the idea to sell 700 taxi medallions to help sfmta's million budget deficit. the medallions fell by the wayside when uber and lyft hit the streets. taxi drivers who already paid for the medallions took out loans. but with business down and an almost worthless medallion, many stopped paying the loans, damaging their credit. abc seven news talked with one medallion owner who is still trying to pay his loan while struggling to make ends meet. >> they don't think even we are human beings if they think they spending $1 billion on homeless, they should give us some break on the medallion price. >> it's safe to estimate that about 300 of those medallions sold through the program have been foreclosed on. >> recently, during an sfmta board hearing, taxi drivers suggested the city bail them out. some medallion owners will

be asked to start paying the yearly medallion fee again. it got waived during the pandemic. it was the talk of the country all day yesterday, continuing into. eclipse here in the bay area. we only got a partial solar eclipse. the moon just covered a portion of the sun, but that didn't stop people from coming out to enjoy what was there to see. everyone looking up at the exploratorium in san francisco, it was such a hot spot to watch the solar eclipse. the museum sold out of the glasses, so people got creative watching a clip. shadows with calendars from home and reflect from mirrors by making the mirror smaller, by blocking part of it with my hand, we're able to get a small image of the eclipsed sun on the wall. >> it's sad we don't get to see the total eclipse, but 40% is still fantastic to me. >> a crowd watch live nasa coverage from texas and the midwest. a crowd of people with all different types of viewing gear came together in los altos

to see the partial solar eclipse. the peninsula astronomical society helped host this event, welcoming people to check out telescopes inside and outside the observatory. >> we are actually able to have light come through and project it onto a card so that we can actually see the eclipse with our naked eye. >> and this man here had his own telescope recording a time lapse video of the eclipse that he plans to share with others. people who wanted to get a glimpse of the eclipse in totality. we had to make the trip east. abc7 spoke with people arriving at sfo after their eclipse trip. dan russell from palo alto took these photos in austin. he stopped there on his way back from raleigh so he could see friends and of course, see the eclipse. >> it was cloudy, but every so often there'd be a little parting in the clouds and you'd see it, and then it would go away and you'd see it and go away. so it was really nice, actually. it was surprisingly dark. it wasn't. it was very slow to get dark. and all of a sudden it got very dark. street

us with what's behind these concerns. >> good morning, reggie. library workers say they've been forced to intervene in dangerous and violent situations, and now they want the city to step in and provide help. they're asking for security guards at all 28 branches across the city. currently, they say a majority of the branches do not have a dedicated guard. in a press release, a part time librarian says their job is to ensure equitable access to the library for everyone. this comes as the city is cracking down on open air drug use by un plaza, near the main library branch, currently, library staff are in contract negotiations along with tens of thousands of other city employees, and they are also fighting for more full time jobs. the rally starts at noon today at sf main library. that's on larkin street, and i reached out to the san francisco public library to get their response. and of course, we'll bring that to you as soon as we have it. kumasi. >> thank you, gloria. east palo alto community advocates are trying to make sure violent

crime does not make a comeback, as police try to solve the first homicide of the year and investigate whether a death yesterday is criminal as well. east palo alto police say it's just too early to determine if a crime occurred yesterday. police also say a man who was stabbed back in february died from his injuries a month later. the department is still looking for his attacker. authorities are now asking for the public's help in solving the crime. in addition, local nonprofit mothers against murder is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. >> families tend to be scared. so we're here as a community organization doing it on behalf of the families, on behalf of the community as well. there is always hope and if some reward can help, then we're willing >> back in the 1990s, east palo alto was called the murder capital of the u.s. it is a stark contrast to last year's

data, when east palo alto had zero murders. >> you're going to see a lot more electric rental bikes in the east bay today. lyft is set to announce it's expanding its bay wheels bike share program. the company will roll out 500 new bikes in oakland, berkeley and emeryville, along with 24 new docking stations. lyft says they hope this expansion will grow ridership and reduce operational costs. >> we're learning more this morning about a story we gave you a heads up about yesterday. state lawmakers are taking on ticketmaster. east bay assemblywoman buffy. buffy wicks introduced a new bill that would allow multiple companies to sell the first official tickets for a concert or sporting event. right now, for many events, especially concerts, there's only one option. the hope is more options would make tickets less expensive. >> since ticketmaster and live nation were allowed to merge in 2010, ticket prices have gone up an astronomical 140. ticketmaster controls 80% of the primary ticket sales in the

united states. this lack of competition, or otherwise known as a monopoly, hurts consumers. >> ticketmaster said in a statement. we support reforms to improve ticketing, but ab 2808 will not do that. it will instead undermine the efforts of artists, sports teams and primary ticketing companies to minimize tickets scalping us has presented a proposal for a ceasefire in gaza. >> it comes six months after the war between israel and hamas started. cia director bill burns presented the deal to leaders from israel, qatar and egypt over the weekend. it calls for pushing israel to release more palestinian prisoners. that would be in exchange for 40 israeli hostages who would be freed during the first phase of a three stage cease fire deal. all the leaders involved agreed to at least study the proposal. >> israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu received a report on the talks in cairo and in a video posted yesterday, he

says a date for a rafah invasion has not been set, but he did not say when it would happen. >> we are constantly working to achieve our goals, primarily the release of all our hostages and achieving a complete victory over hamas. this victory requires entry into rafah and the elimination of the terrorist battalions there. it will happen there is a date. >> state department spokesperson matthew miller says the u.s. has not been briefed on the date israel will invade rafah. >> a total of 419 humanitarian aid trucks entered gaza yesterday. officials say that is the highest number of aid trucks to enter the area in one day. since the war started, and in fact, it just beats the record of the day earlier, when 322 trucks entered gaza. >> that number represents a significant improvement, but it is important not just that we see the daily number continue to grow, but that it be sustained over time. our hope is that by later this week, 350 trucks will enter gaza each day. and we are

you. thanks amanda. >> as donald trump continues to campaign ahead of november, the former president is also dealing with a number of obstacles in the courts and recent legal defeats. special counsel jack smith is urging the supreme court to reject trump's claim of immunity from prosecution in the election interference case. this comes two weeks before the justices take up the question of whether a former president is protected from criminal charges for official actions taken while in office. >> trump's legal team has lost the appeal to delay the criminal case involving hush money paid to stormy daniels. the trial begins next week in manhattan. the former president's lawyers tried getting the trial delayed and then moved to staten island. but the judge denied that request. when it starts next wednesday, it will be the first of trump's four criminal indictments to go to trial, and would be the first criminal trial ever of a former president. >> trump's net worth has dropped by $2 billion since his truth social platform went public last month. shares of trump media and technology dropped by another

place in north america to see the moon totally cover the sun. now that the eclipse is over, everyone's going back home. immediately after the eclipse, traffic was backed up across new hampshire roads and highways in several states, including texas, ohio, illinois, michigan, indiana and vermont were impacted by eclipse traffic. the faa advised pilots to carry more fuel in the event they were rerouted. because of heavy volume in eclipse zones. some airlines offered flights to give people a view of the eclipse from the air. the faa reported ground stops that briefly halted arrivals into some small airports, from vermont to illinois to travel for the eclipse and spring break led to the faa issuing a travel warning from sunday night until wednesday, but mostly you just paid a lot more. >> for those of us who couldn't make it to the path of totality for the event this year, we can start to plan for 2045 when it will come through the us again, through northern california, all the way to florida. so this is
