jail still remains closed. while the san francisco one is set to reopen. the two jails have been under lockdown since last friday, while authorities investigated recent attacks. the sheriff says as many as seven staff members and nine deputies have been injured since late march. deputies warned the sheriff something like this would happen nearly 100 of them signed a letter saying in november to the sheriff. critical levels of staffing shortages. deputies in san bruno said they were mentally and physically exhausted. fights, drug use and assaults. staff had said they have seen them increase. the sheriff described some of the injuries over the past week. >> as i mentioned, we've had a number of deputies go out on injuries that include punches to the head, face and neck. being spit at and kicked in, the head slammed against walls, which result in the injuries of bone fractures, dislocated shoulders and bloody eye sockets

protesters who shut down the golden gate bridge are not being charged with a crime. but that could change soon. district attorney brooke jenkins says her office just needs more time. abc seven news reporter tim johns was outside the jail when some of those detained were released. free, free, free palestine protests outside the san francisco county jail tuesday. >> dozens gathering to demand the release of the 26 people who were arrested the day before for shutting down the golden gate bridge as part of a wider pro-palestinian protest. those 26 people arrested by the california highway patrol and booked into custody on multiple charges, including felony conspiracy. these unprecedented the uh- that this felony charges are being made. earlier in the day, san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins announcing that her office wouldn't be charging those protesters by a tuesday afternoon deadline, saying her team needs more time and help from witnesses who were stuck on the bridge, stressing, however, that this is an open and active investigation and that charges are indeed coming.

boeing 787 dreamliner to be grounded by regulators over aircraft quality concerns. several safety incidents on boeing jets is putting the company in the spotlight, and amanda's at the live desk with more on this. >> amanda kumasi today, a congressional hearing brings boeing safety and quality concerns back into the public eye. a senate committee will hear from a whistleblower and a panel of experts who call for significant improvements at the aircraft manufacturer. the whistleblower, engineer sam salarpur, claims the 787 dreamliner wide body jets are not properly put together and could eventually break apart over time. he wants the faa to immediately ground these jets. boeing is calling salarpur claims inaccurate. the company says in part the issue raised the issues raised, i should say, have been subject to rigorous engineering examination under faa oversight. this analysis has validated that these issues do not present any safety concerns. salarpur has not provided any

documented evidence. boeing is now encouraging employees to speak up about quality concerns ahead of today's hearing. the company says. reports to an internal tip line about aircraft quality are up about 500% this year. back to you at the desk, reggie. >> thanks so much, amanda. tomorrow is the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake in san francisco, and the mayor is taking a major step in its 3030 year plan for improving seismic safety. she issued an executive director directive instructing city departments to identify concrete buildings that may be vulnerable in major earthquakes. experts say these at risk buildings are not easily identified from the street, so a screening process is needed to identify them and prioritize those that need to be retrofitted. >> the city is also a step closer to installing 33 speed cameras. yesterday, the municipal transportation agency board of directors unanimously approved the locations for these cameras. they're expected to be installed as soon as next year. the cameras are part of a

statewide pilot program that will ticket drivers who exceed the speed limit by at least 11 miles an hour. >> bart is giving cash refunds to those who turn in their paper blue and white tickets. it now requires riders to use clipper cards for access into bart stations. however, according to our media partners at sf standard, if you still have any of those old paper bart tickets, you can turn them in for cash. the tickets must have $1 or more on them to receive a refund. there's no deadline to turn in these tickets. you can get a refund form online or at a bart station. a new musical soon to be playing in san francisco has the best possible credentials. it won the pulitzer prize even before it got to broadway, and it won the tony once it opened. it's called a strange loop. it's based on a frustrated writer working as a lion king usher, writing a musical about being a lion king, usher and i had the chance to talk with the creator about his circle of strife and jesus

dismissed. >> so far, seven jurors have been seated. three are women, including a teacher, a software employee at disney, abc's parent company and an oncology nurse who said, i didn't know i was walking into this for jurors or men, including the four person who was born in ireland and works in sales to our attorneys. and there's an it consultant originally from puerto rico who called trump for donating and mysterious, adding he walks into a room and he sets people off one way or another. lawyers have been questioning the jury pool, looking at their social media for potential bias. one man was asked about a 2017 facebook post where he wrote, get him out and lock him up. that man was dismissed from the case. trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide a payment he made to former fixer michael cohen to pay off adult film actress stormy daniels to keep her quiet about a long denied affair. prosecutors say trump falsified documents to hide that information from voters in the 2016 election. trump has pleaded not guilty.

>> i was paying a lawyer and marked it down as a legal expense. some accountant i didn't know marked it down as a legal expense. that's exactly what it was. and you get indicted over that while trump is in court, president biden is on the campaign trail. >> he will be in pittsburgh today to meet with steelworkers. biden has said he would not be watching trump's trial. instead, he says he will be talking about the issues perry, russom, abc news, washington. >> happening today, the hawaii attorney general is expected to release the first phase of an extensive report on the august wildfire fires on maui, a massive the live dust tracking that reggie aqui. >> we are working to learn more about what exactly happened during the deadly maui wildfires back in august. the state's attorney general is set to release that information later on this afternoon. the report is expected to address the 72 hours before, during and after the fire. the maui fire department yesterday released its own report about what happened. the

seven. >> new overnight, the happiest place on earth looks like it's going to get bigger. the anaheim city council voted to expand the disneyland. amanda is tracking that from the live desk. >> reggie aqui, citing developments for fans of disney. the disneyland forward project is a multi-billion dollar plan to expand disneyland with land the company already owns. the agreement between disneyland and the city of anaheim was unanimously passed last night by the city council. the expansion plan will allow for development of new attractions, shops and restaurants with land under utilized by disneyland. the company plans to invest about $1.9 billion toward the project. the city's mayor says it will bring more opportunity to anaheim that this project will bring a benefit to our community, not just in the near future, but in decades to come. >> the success of disneyland forward provides a really important way for us to build affordable housing for us to invest in making our parks in every single district better. it
