city of grants pass, oregon, passed an ordinance banning people from sleeping in public spaces because there were no shelters in grants pass, a homeless group sued and won. it argued the ban violated the constitution's eighth amendment, barring cruel and unusual punishment. the case then went to the ninth circuit court of appeals, which is based in san francisco, and won there as well. >> the reality is, the only thing that works is more permanent affordable housing. >> the supreme court is expected to make a ruling by the end of june. that decision will have an impact on how san francisco handles the unhoused. earlier this year, a separate lawsuit over how the city clears encampments was put on hold pending a decision in the grants pass case. back to you, kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. this week, governor newsom is planning to propose legislation to make it easier for people from arizona to get abortions here. it's in response to that state's near total abortion ban. the governor wants to offer abortion
