we're milder in the north bay and around the san carlos airport. but look at the wind from santa rosa and to half moon bay. so that builds and we'll have the temperatures come up through the upper 60s by the afternoon around the bay and inland will be in the low to even mid 70s. the coast, windy just in the 60s, 50s. >> lisa thank you. happening today, students are set to protest the war in the middle east at sf state. it's just the latest campus where we are seeing demonstrators voicing their displeasure about what's unfolding in israel and gaza. abc7 news reporter lena howland is in the studio now. selena, what's happening today is apparently similar to what happened over the weekend. >> reggie that's right. this demonstration is expected to be similar to what we saw on the stanford campus over the weekend. a group called students for gaza at sfsu says the rally will be focused on calling on the csu system as a whole to stop providing support to israel , as sfsu associated students

already voted to divest from israel back in 2020. their message follows calls for divestment from students on college campuses nationwide. at stanford, more than two dozen tents have been set up on the campus's white plaza. their demonstration first started on thursday for what student activists are calling a people's university for palestine. this group told us they're demanding stanford separate itself from any companies or organizations advancing military efforts in the israel-hamas war. and they're calling out three well-known companies. >> stanford has ties with lockheed martin. stanford has ties with chevron with hp, and all three of those companies, are are hurting the palestinian people. you know, in some way or another. lockheed martin is more directly through weapons, right. but then there's technology, then there's gas. >> both stanford and uc berkeley's demonstrators demonstrations have remained peaceful so far, but that hasn't been the case at places like

columbia or usc. to protect students, a newly formed group called the faculty for palestine at sfsu is calling on the university administration to do three things refrain from dispatching police forces against potential student demonstrations. refrain from any academic retaliation against students, and respects students right to protest. today's demonstration on campus is expected to start right around 1215 this afternoon on the malcolm x plaza, live in studio. lena howland abc seven news. >> lena, thank you. usc officials say protesters taking part in a demonstration on campus there damaged property over the weekend. the university says they vandalized the tommy trojan statue and a fountain. usc also says its president has tried numerous times to meet with the students, but they have declined these offers. this all comes after the university decided to cancel its main graduation, citing there wasn't enough time to process guests with these new safety measures. police at more than a dozen

college campuses have arrested about 600 people over the last week. grand prix palestine you hear the tense moments at ucla yesterday as counter protesters clashed with pro-palestinian demonstrators. the university says a group broke through a barrier meant to keep the protests apart. no word on any arrests from this incident. >> now, up north at north poly humboldt, the campus is still closed. police are threatening people with arrest if they enter without permission. students are still camped out in two buildings. they're demanding the university, as we've seen at all these other campuses, divest from companies connected to israel. they also want the university to call for a ceasefire in gaza. the campus is closed. classes are remote through the end of the semester. >> more students in gaza are sending messages of thank you to american students taking part in protests on college campuses. yesterday, messages were spray painted on tents near a school

we understand that meeting comes as the white house is meeting with israel. >> yeah. secretary of state antony blinken flew into saudi arabia overnight to push for a temporary cease fire. a six week pause in fighting. this trip comes after president biden and benjamin netanyahu spoke over the weekend. the u.s. is taking a clear position opposing israel's plans to invade rafah. that's where more than 1 million palestinians are sheltering. netanyahu's government is divided on how to move forward. right wing hardliners are threatening to leave the governing coalition of israel if israel agrees to what they call a reckless deal. other members are urging the government to prioritize the release of hostages, as the u.s. military is working to install an offshore temporary pier to bring in large shipments of humanitarian aid into gaza. the white house says it will likely take 2 to 3 weeks before it's ready to use. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. abc seven news continues to follow the story of banco brown. his death sparked protests and vigils, but no criminal charges. saturday

marked one year since a security guard shot and killed brown at a walgreens in san francisco. the guard suspected him of shoplifting. there was a scuffle, and that is when the guard shot brown. now, the guard later said that he felt his life was threatened. the san francisco da's office did not charge the guard with brown's killing, saying there was clear evidence that this was self-defense. people are still angry about this one year later, the anger is just coming from that. there really isn't justice for banco right now. in this moment, a year after banco brown. >> sadly, things have not changed, they've only gotten harder and harder. >> the young women's freedom center, where brown worked as an intern, honored him during a rally over the weekend. >> new developments in the fallout from sexual assault allegations against a rising political star in san francisco. our partners at the san francisco standard report, speaker emerita nancy pelosi, is now weighing in on the

51 santa rosa with some cool mid and upper 40s temperatures dropped off the past couple of hours. they're up in the north bay. and how about a continuation of the weekend? that means the gusty winds at the coast 21 miles an hour right now. half moon bay. you can see santa rosa is breezy and they'll continue to build. so we've got 30 to 40 mile an hour winds on tap for the shoreline. otherwise it's sunny and breezy around the bay. tomorrow, very little change. we'll see the temperature spread from the 50s at the shoreline to the mid 70s inland. then we'll see the numbers come up. bayside will be in the 70s with 80s arriving later this week. so the winds, yeah, they've been kind of a nuisance haven't they? if you head to the shoreline, you'll notice from stinson to point reyes it is quite gusty out there. so the rest of us enjoying a breeze for sure. and we'll see. temperatures climb by wednesday to near 80. reggie. >> all right. thanks so much, lisa. still to come, a governor who has been mentioned as a

month. a man is tracking that from the live desk. reggie we know many of you are looking for information about what's happening. >> this has been one of the top google search trends this morning. so here's what we know. there are norovirus outbreaks on both princess cruises, sapphire princess and royal caribbean's radiance of the seas. almost 200 people, including some crew members, have become sick. both ships have increased their cleaning and disinfecting procedures in response to the outbreaks. passengers who reported symptoms were also isolated. this comes after more than two dozen silversea cruise guests reported having stomach issues on board the silver nova during a one way trip that started back in march that cruise has since arrived to its destination in florida. the silver nova is expected to arrive here in san francisco next month. back to you, reggie. >> you got to wash those hands before you go to that buffet. okay, amanda. thank you. you might be hearing about the spread of bird flu through dairy cow populations in the u.s. the

virus has been detected in grocery store milk. but what is the actual risk for your family? the fda says milk from the store is safe to drink, but to stop the spread of the virus. starting today, there is a new federal order in effect for more testing of cows. the goal is to stop the spread of bird flu as soon as possible. >> i think people are worried that if this particular strain of bird flu infects a pig because the pig can be infected with both human flu and bird flu, they can sort of like commingle and then create a kind of bird flu that can affect humans. >> right now, there are only two reported human cases in the u.s. medical experts have a few reminders in order to keep everyone safe. first, don't drink unpasteurized milk. that means stay away from raw milk. the pasteurization process is effective at getting rid of the live virus. don't handle dead birds or sick cows. i doubt that applies to many of you, but just in case, if you do handle either

of those, you should talk to your doctor as soon as possible. in the east bay now, residents from an oakland neighborhood plagued by sex trafficking are calling for more help from city hall. saturday there was a rally on 13th avenue in international boulevard, marching tell and alameda county district attorney pamela price were there. neighbors and community groups say the area is seeing an increase in prostitution, often involving underage girls. they asked city leaders to do more than make arrests. >> will you lead a multi-jurisdictional effort to fund design and launch regional human trafficking awareness campaign to increase public awareness of the impact of sex trafficking on victims and consequences for those who buy sex? >> that news conference took place just a few blocks from saint anthony's k through eight school. that's the same place where over a year ago, the abc7 i-team shot video of a parent sex workers soliciting outside of the school. in the middle of the day, the city says when they put up barriers near saint anthony's, the prostitution and the trafficking just moved down the street.

>> safety advocates in san francisco are celebrating four years of jfk drive being shut down to vehicles. mayor london breed first made it car free during the pandemic so people could have a place to be socially distant voters made it permanent in november. now city leaders are looking into changes for other streets to protect pedestrians and cyclists. >> we're not trying to get rid of cars. we want to make sure we balance that with the right infrastructure and that leads to safety and efficiency and opportunities in a city to have everyone come together in a community environment is something to really nurture as a city. >> so i'm all for keeping this the way it is. >> pedestrian safety has been at the top of people's minds since a deadly crash in the west portal neighborhood last month. some are pushing to recommit to vision zero. the policy to end deadly traffic crashes. >> may the force be with you and also your dogs. the power of the

everybody. so we are starting out quiet here for your monday. and with the temperatures on the comfy side we are near average a couple of weather systems to the north and west of us will be slightly affecting us with a reinforcing shot of those breezy winds the next few days, not allowing the temperatures to come up until high pressure builds in the second half of the workweek. check it out. some lazy c lines there. pier 39 and a quiet start in the city with 51 degrees 52 in hayward. good morning to you, redwood city. low 50s there and up in the north bay. it's cooler. this is a live look from vollmer peak. and temperatures have dropped off into the low 40s in petaluma . 48 for you by the delta with a southwest wind at 12. in the south bay today. enjoying low 70s again for san jose. average high. it should be about 70 there. upper 60s here along the bay. and we'll be looking at similar readings for you in redwood city. those breezy winds throughout the afternoon quite

of south dakota on the backlash over a story in her new book. the story is about the shooting of her puppy. kristi noem is considered to be in the running to become donald trump's pick for vice president, and her upcoming memoir. she said she shot and killed her 14 month old puppy named cricket for bad behavior after she claimed cricket had an aggressive personality that included misbehaving on a hunting trip, killing several chickens and biting her hand. the revelation

has caused a huge backlash from both republicans and democrats, with many saying she can no longer be considered for the vice president role. noem responded, saying, i followed the law and was being a responsible parent, dog owner and neighbor. she added that shooting her dog wasn't easy, but often the easy way isn't the right way, she said. if you have plans to visit big sur in the coming weeks, we have a big update starting today, the public can convoy in and out of the area. highway one has been closed at rocky creek since a portion of the southbound lane slid into the ocean last month. convoys have been running twice a day for residents and essential workers. today, they'll be available to everyone else. public convoys will run from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. however, during the afternoon, convoys that the public will be able to access will only be able to exit that particular area. highway one will remain closed for the remainder of each day so crews

>> final days of april here. and you know we're certainly where we should be for this time of year with comfortable temperatures and a little bit breezy out there. that's what we get springtime. but look at this gorgeous shot from the exploratory zoom camera. we're in the low 50s hayward in san jose. good morning, san francisco 51 for you. 49 in oakland from our sutro tower camera. nice and quiet out there, but cool in petaluma. 43 for you. napa is at 45 with 51 and breezy winds at 22 miles an hour. up in santa rosa, you can see the gusts right down through half moon bay. not too bad. elsewhere across the bay, we'll continue to see the winds build throughout the day. so inland, mid 70s, even maybe 76 out there, perhaps in brentwood, across the bay there from hayward to palo alto and fremont, will make it into the upper 60s. so a nice afternoon, the winds kicking up though, and at the coast, we'll just call it windy with winds over 20 miles an hour at times. and we didn't even manage a mid 50s. so it's going to be cool there. but upper 50s at the shoreline.

>> stephanie lisa thank you. new developments now and a potential cease fire in the war between israel and hamas. abc news confirms the hamas terror group is now sending a delegation to cairo, egypt today, negotiations are set to resume in a hostage and ceasefire deal. president biden spoke with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu yesterday over the phone. the president urged netanyahu to consider more humanitarian aid to gaza, and reiterated america's stance on a possible israeli ground invasion of rafah. >> we have to have a better understanding from the israelis about what they want to do. as a matter of fact, we've had several staff talks with them. we intend to do that more. they've assured us that they won't go into rafah until we've had a chance to really share our perspectives and our concerns with them. >> secretary of state antony blinken is traveling across the middle east this week to help broker the negotiations. the white house says he will be pushing for a six week ceasefire after hamas released new video showing two more hostages, 47 year old israeli citizen omri

says a man came into her shop and robbed them of their cash register with $1,400. inside, savannah, who has millions of views on tiktok for posting cambodian recipe videos, shared the news on social media. the community came out in a big way, not only raising more than $4,000 in a go fund me campaign, but buying out her entire inventory for two days in a row. yesterday, oakland firefighters stopped in to show their support to savannah is beyond grateful and has this hope for the future. >> i was so happy when i saw the firefighter went over there like a whole crew of people around the world. that message me, they concerned about me and they give me a supportive energy just to keep me going on. i hope that mayor of oakland step up and do something about oakland and make oakland a better place for everyone to enjoy and for our

interstate 680. road work has finally wrapped up and the roads are now reopened on southbound i-680. you'll notice smooth new pavement in the pleasanton area this morning. this was the

second southbound weekend closure. caltrans says two weekends of work saved them from having to close the southbound lanes for 40 individual nights, and on highway 37 in the north bay. repaving work is complete on the westbound lanes. lanes were closed from vallejo to sears point, but have also reopened just about an hour ago. next weekend, caltrans will start work on the eastbound side of the highway. >> this morning, people in the middle of the country are bracing for more severe weather after they endured a tornado outbreak over the weekend. at least five people have died in oklahoma, including a four month old child. president biden spoke to the state's governor yesterday, offering the full support of the federal government. a total of seven southern and midwest states are affected right now. drone footage captured the destruction in douglas county, nebraska. that's where roads are filled with debris and the roofs are torn off for that big of a storm to have the property damage that was so extensive. >> but the loss of life, that's
