>> good morning everyone. i'm andrew dymburt. >> good morning to you. i'm rhiannon ally. we begin with the shocking death of iran's president, hardline leader ebrahim raisi was killed in a helicopter crash along with his foreign minister and several others. >> a drone located the crash detecting a source of heat near the azerbaijan border that was more than 12 hours after the chopper went down in bad weather . this morning, iran's president and several other leaders have been found dead at this helicopter crash site. president ebrahim raisi. iran's foreign minister and seven others were aboard the aircraft. drone video shows the site on a steep, wooded hillside. little of the aircraft remaining beyond its blue and white tail. raisi, seen here in the helicopter on sunday traveling to the iranian border with azerbaijan for an event. heavy fog blanketed the area of northwest iran, making it difficult for search and rescue teams to locate the aircraft. after a more than 12 hour search, drones provided by turkey using thermal cameras pinpointed the crash site

overnight. senate majority leader chuck schumer saying there was no evidence of foul play. it looks like an accident. >> there was very bad foggy weather in northwest iran where the copter crashed. >> elected in 2021, president raisi was a hardliner and the second most powerful figure in iran. he was seen as a top contender for replacing ayatollah khamenei, who vows after the crash there will be no disruption to state affairs. but just weeks after iran and israel launched unprecedented strikes on each other, experts are questioning how a transition of power in iran could affect a region already in turmoil. >> nuclear issue is part of them. the regional peace and conditions are part of them. these are all going to be political, politically relevant issues in in the years to come. >> iran's constitution mandates a new president must be elected within the next 50 days. >> now to the severe storms here in the u.s, multiple tornadoes were reported across the plains, including this tornado in oklahoma. it comes as an area brace for summer-like heat.

overnight, severe weather slamming the plains where multiple tornadoes touched down. this large twister hitting outside oklahoma city after officials urged residents to seek shelter. at least three tornadoes were spotted in kansas, causing extensive damage in the city of russell. >> she grabbed the dog real quick and, just took off east. >> the national weather service received eight reports of tornadoes across colorado, kansas and oklahoma yesterday and more severe weather is expected today. >> thunderstorms will begin to bubble in the afternoon, right in the great lakes region during the evening commute, but then sweeping across nebraska and iowa. there we could see a few tornadoes. the threat persists on tuesday, sweeping eastward into places like kansas city, stretching from green bay to oklahoma city. >> meanwhile, parts of texas could see triple digit temperatures this week. >> the heat is not going to get

any any less. it's only going to get hotter from here. >> nearly a quarter of a million people in the houston area are still without power after a deadly storm hit last week. now many are left without air conditioning, with record heat on the way, some of those people may not have their power back until wednesday. >> the cargo ship that destroyed baltimore's key bridge is being moved back to port today. five tugboats are assisting the dolly to a terminal nearly eight weeks after it crashed into the bridge, causing it to collapse. officials say baltimore baltimore's port will be fully up and running by the end of the month. >> now to the race for the white house and president biden reaching out to a key voting bloc, biden faced crowds of black voters in the battle ground states of michigan and georgia, starting off with the commencement address at morehouse college. abc's em nguyen is live in washington with the latest on this. good morning m rhiannon. >> good morning. yeah. president biden taking the stage twice sunday delivering speeches to

she is not taking anything less than $800. rhiannon. >> all right. and thank you for that. the senate is set to vote again this week on the bipartisan border bill. >> majority leader chuck schumer is vowing to bring the legislation back to the floor. but republican sources say it will be dead on arrival in the house if it even gets through the senate. republicans killed the initial package under pressure from donald trump, who is making the border a key part of his campaign message. officials in the african nation of congo say they've foiled a coup attempt, and they claim three americans are among the perpetrators of the attacks. yesterday on congo's presidential palace. and another residence left three people dead, including a self-exiled opposition leader now to sean diddy combs breaking his silence. >> the music mogul is admitting to beating his ex-girlfriend in a hotel back in 2016 after video of the attack recently surfaced. abc's melissa don has the details as sean diddy combs

admitting to beating his ex-girlfriend, apologizing two days after this disturbing surveillance video exclusively obtained by cnn showed him attacking singer cassie ventura at a los angeles hotel in 2016, throwing her to the ground and kicking her. >> my behavior on that video is inexcusable. >> in a lawsuit settled last year, ventura claimed combs became extremely intoxicated and punched miss ventura in the face, giving her a black eye, adding when she tried to leave, combs followed her into the hallway, yelling at her and grabbed at her. combs had previously denied the allegations, his attorney last year calling them offensive and outrageous. now, the entertainment mogul acknowledging he attacked his then girlfriend. >> i was disgusted then when i did it, i'm disgusted now. i'm so sorry. i'm not asking for forgiveness. i'm truly sorry. >> combs releasing the video statement after the l.a. district attorney's office

indicated they would be unable to charge combs as the incident is outside the statute of limitations. sources telling abc news. combs is the subject of an ongoing federal investigation out of the southern district of new york into human trafficking, his attorney calling raids of combs houses a witch hunt, adding, mr. combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name. in recent months, combs has been accused in civil lawsuits of sexual assault and sex trafficking, allegations which he has denied. melissa o'donnell , abc news, los angeles. >> diddy also says he takes full responsibility for what happened in that video. >> police in a detroit suburb say a weekend propane tank blast was an accident. surveillance cameras captured the explosion outside of a restaurant in rochester, michigan. five people were hurt, including three children. streets in the area were shut down for a few hours. >> it is time now for a look at your monday morning weather.

scottie scheffler in the big scheme of things. >> scheffler had been on track to win the championship before this. >> guys. >> his arrest early last friday morning just outside the valhalla golf club, hours before he was set to tee off. >> he's going to jail and it ain't nothing you can do about it. >> according to the police report, scheffler was behind the wheel, being directed by a police officer around an unrelated fatal accident scene when he refused to comply and accelerated forward drag ing the officer to the ground, scheffler later calling his arrest a big misunderstanding and that he never intended to disregard any of the officer's instructions. his wife rushing to his side with their newborn son from their home in dallas. louisville's mayor says there is no body camera footage from the police officers, but he says video of the incident could be released this week. >> there is some footage from across the street of a fixed camera when mr. scheffler was being arrested, and we will release that footage in the coming days.
