afternoon. it's a nice day close to the coast around the bay shoreline limited if any fog this morning. a little bit of cloud cover over the city, a little bit of cloud cover over oakland, but for the most part, it's a bright afternoon and temperatures going into the low 70s for daytime highs inland this morning. we are totally clear. so that means we warm pretty fast into the upper 60s by 10 a.m, then later on this afternoon, our warmest areas under sunshine going into the low 80s. let's check in with amanda. she's got some info at the live desk. >> so first i'm going to hit your drive time. traffic's here at 501. we're taking a look. tracy to dublin 43 minutes. and then that drive from dublin to mission boulevard south that's going to take you 16 minutes. and then 101 to cupertino. so that's going to take you 15 minutes. and now i have some breaking news. i'm tracking for you at the live desk right now. less than an hour ago, the chief prosecutor from the international criminal court announced he is seeking arrest warrants for israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, the leader of hamas, and several

others. the charges are different for each, but they are war crimes charges related to the israel-hamas war and the situation that is still unfolding in gaza. in a statement, the prosecutor called for the immediate release of all hostages. a panel of icc judges will now consider the application for the arrest warrants. the warrants against the israeli politicians would mark the first time the icc has targeted the top leader of a close ally of the united states. we'll keep tracking this story throughout the morning. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. we are tracking developing news out of iran this morning. the country's president, foreign minister and several others have all been killed in a helicopter crash. they were traveling to an event when the helicopter went down in a rural area overnight. the white house says president biden has been briefed on the situation. senate majority leader chuck schumer says there is no evidence of foul play. >> it looks like an accident. there was very bad foggy weather in northwest iran where the

copter crashed. >> iran is the in iran, the president is the second most powerful political figure after supreme leader ayatollah ali khamenei, the ayatollah vowing there will be no interruption to government affairs. >> developing news in the south bay a person is in the hospital after getting shot by san jose police. investigators say this all started when they got a call of a man firing a gun in the neighborhood, prompting officers to open fire. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at police headquarters. with what we need to know about this investigation, lena. >> reggie. we know that one suspect is in the hospital with life threatening injuries. this morning after being shot by san jose police. now, police tell us that they responded to this area along colmar drive in east san jose. this is right near the tersection of story road and the capital expressway. police tell us this call first came in right around 4:00 yesterday afternoon with reports of a man

shooting a firearm. san jose police claim the suspect was still shooting that firearm when they arrived. they say the suspect was hit by officer gunfire and taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and that no officers were shot. police giving this brief update on scene due to evidence. >> we have to review body worn camera video that we have to look at witnesses we have to interview as well as the officers have yet to be interviewed. so there's still a lot of information we don't know. we're learning things as they're developing at this time. we don't think there's any other injuries other than the suspect, but we are still canvasing, combing through evidence to determine whether or not there are additional victims. and we're asking the public if they saw anything, if they were involved at all prior to police arrival to please contact the police department. >> we also spoke with a neighbor living in the apartment complex where the shooting happened. he says he was on his way home when police were arriving and just cop after cop after cop. >> so, i didn't think they were going to be here though. so when

i made the corner came in and i seen everything taped off, it was actually pretty, pretty crazy. it was a little bizarre scene of seeing all the cop cars come here. you know, i have, actually another daughter, so it's a little concerning because they're both little girls and we're constantly taking walks, and, it's a little alarming to know that that happened here. >> and police say they will be holding a press conference sometime later on today, once they have a little bit more information about what happened. live in san jose. lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you. lena. a sidewalk mural originally made to oppose israel's military campaign in gaza is being defaced by hate speech in san francisco's noe valley neighborhood. abc seven news reporter j.r stone is following the story and has more on this contentious back and forth. >> it's a very one sided. it is very violent and it is not a call for peace. >> matt, who has asked that we not use his last name, is giving

us his opinion about this mural in san francisco's noe valley, one that he walks by every day with his child and one that reads, stop the genocide in gaza. now he'd like to see a message conveying a cease fire and release of hostages, as matt showed us the section that angers him most. >> so that dollar sign replaces a jewish star and historically for all time replacing a jewish star with money has been patently anti-semitic. >> the jewish community relations council says they have received numerous complaints about this mural. >> the message is outrageous to form a blood libel against the jewish community. the bloody visuals, the dropping star of david replace the star with a dollar sign. it's a classic trope that jews control the government or some form of manipulation, and it reads like textbook anti-semitism. >> at least one parent from this nearby daycare told us they don't think it's right that their children have to see these red images every day. some neighbors we spoke with disagree

and don't want the mural touched . >> i can understand that you know that for children it can be sensitive. however, this is the reality. the children in gaza have no choice but to see. you know, they're seeing their family members dead, in the streets. >> so you don't have a problem with it up like it is? >> well, i don't think it's very neighborly, but at any rate, no, i don't have a problem. >> the mural has been defaced numerous times in recent weeks, but the artist has fixed it each time as to what comes next. that is unclear, for this mural is on private property and we were unable to reach the owner regarding his future plans. jr stone, abc seven news and our media partners at sf standard report. >> the supervisor representing the district, rafael mandelman, is aware of the defacements and is working with san francisco police. our request for comment to supervisor madeline's office were not returned.

>> a federal judge is reopening the sentencing of david depape on friday. depape is given 30 years in prison after being convicted of attacking congresswoman nancy pelosi's husband paul, with a hammer at their san francisco home. now, the judge says they will review his sentence again because he did not get a chance to speak during the sentencing hearing. a new sentencing hearing has been set for tuesday, may 28th. >> happening today, 2000 uc santa cruz graduate student employees say they are planning to strike. their union says the uc system violated people's rights in the way it handled pro-palestinian protests on campus. university of california officials say the action is in violation of the union's contract, and is asking a state board to issue a cease and desist order. this is likely the first in a series of strikes across uc campuses in the coming weeks. >> that follows that charged commencement ceremony at sonoma state on saturday. a group of pro palestinian protesters staged a silent demonstration during graduation, a line of law

and a warming trend the next couple of days. so what to expect? limited morning clouds throughout the week. it's a lot of sunshine, some warm days, the warmest days likely tomorrow, and into wednesday. with those temperatures above average, we'll show you those numbers in a few minutes, but future weather showing you by 8:00 this morning. any cloud cover we have is gone, even along the coast. and that means we have warmer weather throughout the day. by midday this is noon, 60s and mid 70s under that full sunshine and then heading into the afternoon. even the coast is looking lovely 60 degrees along the coast we'll see 70s and 80 and our warmest spots away from the coast, and even this evening those skies remain clear so we get a break from those morning clouds. the next couple of days. the pollen count is still high. we just got the latest numbers in this morning. trees are high, grasses are at moderate levels, so still we're dealing with a lot of pollen in our atmosphere. 67 in the city, 72 in oakland, near 80. in san jose we'll go to 82. in fairfield. look at the next

at least 13 tornadoes overnight and amanda, it was a really tough night for so many people and it could be a long day for even more. >> yeah, kumasi thunderstorms are expected to impact the great lakes region this afternoon, and the severe weather threat continues for a big portion of the middle of the country tomorrow. last night, a large twister hit outside oklahoma city. people there being told to seek shelter. three caused

damage in the city of russell, kansas. in houston, texas, the power is slowly coming back online after a series of deadly storms over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of residents were left without power or air conditioning during near 90 degree heat. now, the storms brought hurricane force winds to the downtown area, and a tornado touched down in the suburbs. so far, 88% of the power has been restored to the houston area, with the rest expected back by wednesday. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. the country of brazil living through an extreme flooding emergency. thousands of people have been displaced in the southern part of the country over the past three weeks. our community is helping in that relief effort. some brazilian citizens in the bay area hosted a donation event in saratoga yesterday, collecting supplies and aid for those in need. >> a lot of people lost their homes. they closed everything that they own, and we and the brazilian community start to uh- request for donations for winter

clothes, blankets, hygiene supplies, diapers, things that they needed. and we had actually an overwhelming response. >> the nonprofit organization kind hearts for you estimates it will be sending about 18 tons of resources to those in need. bruce nordstrom, a retail executive who helped expand his family's department store chain into an upscale national brand, has died. seattle based nordstrom inc. said its former chair died at his home on saturday. he was 90. his family remembering him as a legendary business leader, a generous community citizen and a loyal friend, saying he leaves behind a powerful legacy, dramatic new video of a difficult rescue in sonoma county. >> the sheriff's office says a driver went off of a cliff on highway one near the jewel gulch area, south of fort ross yesterday. deputies say the vehicle alert system in the driver's ford sent a notification about the crash. when it happened around eight in

and trees still remain elevated. and underneath this warm pattern the next couple of days, that's unlikely to change. your uv index a seven out of an 11 that is high. so looking at today's forecast, looking inland, lots of sunshine. it will feel warm today. upper 70s to the lower 80s later on today around the bay shoreline. we're not fighting that fog this morning. we're getting into the upper 60s and lower 70s throughout the afternoon with full sunshine and even along the coast. there's just a little bit of patchy fog right now, but that fog is gone by about 8 a.m. and that means we have sunny skies, upper 50s to the lower 60s for daytime high. so across the region it is full sunshine. that pollen count is still high in a lot of spots. we'll go to 67 in the city today, 72 in oakland. that'll feel lovely this afternoon, 78 in san jose, along the coast it is sunny, low 60s to low 70s, from half moon bay to santa cruz, 80 in santa rosa. some of our warmest spots, like antioch and fairfield going into the low 80s for daytime highs. now the evening planner, you're not noticing any sort of fog out

have asked a federal court to fast track the lawsuit over the new law that could lead to a tiktok ban here in the united states. tiktok wants courts to decide by december if the law is constitutional. that law goes into effect in january. this week, we honor the life and legacy of one of the most well-known leaders in the lgbtq plus rights movement in san francisco. wednesday is harvey milk day. over the weekend, a big event was held in the castro activist community organizers and city leaders, including mayor london breed, gathered to celebrate milk's life after being the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in california. he was assassinated inside city hall in 1978, along with mayor george moscone. his advocacy for lgbtq plus rights has lived on, and harvey fought against that as he was representing this neighborhood and this community. >> he fought against that because he understood the big picture. and you fast forward

footage worn during the shooting are still needed to be reviewed. police giving this brief update about agencies investigating on scene said unit is investigating the incident, as they do with any officer involved shooting. >> that's also being uh- going to be audited by the independent police auditor, the independent, sorry, the office of internal affairs, as well as the city attorney's office and the district attorney's office is also here investigating. the officer involved shooting. >> and if you have any information about this shooting, you are asked to call san jose police right away. police told us that they are planning on holding a press conference about this shooting sometime later today. live in san jose lena howland, abc seven news. >> thanks, lena. a fire that burned for more than an hour in the north bay destroyed a home that was under construction. these are pictures of the flames that gutted the 1200 square foot structure. this was in calistoga on franz valley school road. crews from four different agencies were called to the fire

last night. they had it under control by six and no one was hurt. a former irs tax fraud investigator from oakland and his brother have been convicted of scamming the covid 19 paycheck protection program for millions of dollars. frank and reginald mosley pleaded guilty to submitting fake applications to get pgp funds. they also admitted to recruiting others to do the same and then providing kickbacks. in total, the brothers made $3 million off the scheme. they were sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. >> while you were sleeping, a major development in the effort to clear the cargo ship that hit baltimore's francis scott key bridge almost two months ago now. and amanda, the ship is on the move this morning. >> yeah. kumasi overnight crews worked to refloat the ship and begin the slow process of moving it from the baltimore shipping channel to its marine terminal. now, this is a crucial step toward reopening the channel. this step is possible because of the series of controlled explosions that were carried out earlier this month. they disconnected the remaining wreckage of the bridge that had

astronaut candidate after finally making it to space at 90 years old, ed dwight realized his dream on blue origin's new shepard rocket. abc news reporter ike ejiochi has his story. >> pumping his fist in the air after landing, air force test pilot ed dwight making history today at 90 years old, is now the oldest man to travel into space. >> everything you can think of and i thought, i really didn't need this in my life, but now i need it in my life. i am ecstatic, dwight was selected by president john f kennedy in 1961 to become the first black astronaut candidate, but when kennedy was assassinated, dwight's path to space evaporated. >> until now, blue origin jeff bezos aerospace company, launched its ns 25 mission, sending dwight and five others into space for an 11 minute flight aboard its new shepard rocket capsule combo. while he did not get the chance to travel
