to move. oh! oh my god >> and that breaking news. a chaotic and dangerous scene in oakland as several people are injured in a shooting that happened right after graduation ceremonies wrapped up at a high school. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. we know tonight that two people were hit by gunfire. this happened right around 745 tonight. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone is live at the scene. we got the latest from police just a short time ago j.r. still a lot of police out there. what do you have for us? >> yeah. dozens of officers out

here tonight dan here at skyline high school. this is still an active crime scene. and i can tell you we learned within the last hour that two people had been shot, a male and female, both in the hospital right now and both in stable condition. the principal of this school does tell us that this was after graduation ceremonies. i did talk with witnesses a little while ago. this is what they had to say. >> you start seeing the people running and everything like that. >> they were running? yeah. >> oh, yeah. anybody hell, i started ducking down, trying to figure out you. just trying to figure out. was it some kind of pop, like, celebration or what? they were popping off the little confetti poppers and i thought it was all cool. >> and then everyone started running and we saw hella smoke. i don't know what happened, but it sounded like someone was driving by. we saw the smoke, heard the popping, it was that was just a series of sound. like someone had an automatic gun at one point.

>> this is cell phone video showing some of the moments that played out. there appears to be some sort of fight, and then gunshots can be heard along with yelling police are calling this an isolated incident. but that's all we know that both the male and female who were shot are adults. i asked if they are students, but officers didn't have didn't have the answer to that. lieutenant spoke a little while ago. >> we just finished up with a search of the school, with the assistance with chp, the school is currently clear. safe, at the moment, we are in the preliminary stage of the investigation. our investigators are out, piecing all the information together, and they say that it's running. >> yeah. >> tough scene for so many different people out here. i saw a lot of hugs. students hugging their parents who came to meet them later on when they finally left this area. at this point,

actually an acronym for a racial slur. cappuccino high school in san bruno had already handed out more than 100 yearbooks when this discovery was made yesterday. it's now asking those students to return them. we went to the high school tonight where there was a softball game and found some people were clearly angry about what had happened. >> this is upsetting and it happens all the time. 72 years old and still happening. so it's not better. it's still happening . >> the school is now in the process of covering up the offensive language in the remaining yearbooks with tape. the school says if students try to remove it, the page will tear. in a letter, the principal says in part, quote, i interviewed the student and they admitted that this was their intention, using hate speech as serious consequences, which may include suspension, exclusion from year end school activities and the graduation ceremony. end quote. happening now. an active police investigation going on in san jose after a woman was found

dead inside a home. this happened on shadow dance drive near highway 87. police are not saying a whole lot about this incident other than her body was discovered just before 11 a.m. there was a heavy police response when abc seven news crews were on the scene this evening. as the investigation continues in the east bay, a pair of fires kept firefighters very busy. this afternoon in antioch. the first one was off slaton ranch road near highway four and the ebart station. it happened just before 4 p.m. and grew to about ten acres. it spread because the wind was pushing it. sky seven got there when firefighters were mopping up. you can see what appears to be a pile of fencing and other debris, but they got it out pretty quickly. not far away, this fire at the antioch marina. it blackened about five acres before firefighters brought it under control. no one was hurt in this fire either, and we have not heard about the cause or if the two fires are connected in some way. all right. i want to give you a first look at the

weather. it was, as i said, breezy out there which fanned those flames. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with your 24 hour, four hour accuweather forecast. sandhya >> yeah. and dan, the wind is still with us tonight. let me show you a live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. the biggest change we are experiencing is it's a murkier view. so clouds and fog gathering tonight. visibility down to five miles in half moon bay. something you'll need to watch out for if you're commuting tomorrow or you're getting out of town. 7:00 clouds and fog. temperatures in the 50s. partly cloudy by noontime, and we are looking at a breezy to gusty wind and a cooler day. upper 50s to mid 70s clouds up again by evening, so going hour by hour you can see those winds will remain elevated, getting stronger, especially near the coast. tomorrow afternoon and evening. there is going to be a change in our pattern as we head into the weekend. i'll be back with those details coming up. dan. >> okay sandhya, thanks a lot. touch base in a few minutes. now to the south bay and a story we've been following for quite

some time actually was last year when dozens of koi were stolen from a san jose garden, but that's just one of several problems the city is dealing with. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez got an update for you tonight. >> the japanese friendship garden in san jose is lush and serene, but the koi ponds are empty long before alex hirata was a park ranger, she remembers coming to the garden with her mom growing up. >> i remember when these ponds were absolutely full, the city's park department says the ponds have been dry since a flood of 2017, when the pump houses were damaged, and since then the cost for repairs has been slow. when things happen, we get to see those effects for a while after recovery takes time. >> one year ago, park officials discovered 50 koi were stolen from their private holding tanks . harada tells us there's no further information on their whereabouts to date. in 1965, 300 koi were gifted to san jose from the city of okayama, japan. >> so it's actually such a privilege to continue to be part

of the history of these parks in such a personal way. well, not every pond is empty. >> one out of the three is still full of koi fish that are descendants from the ones that were gifted back in the 1960s, probably about in the content right now, probably between 60 and 80 fish. we spoke with park goers to hear their thoughts. well, we were wondering what happened actually that there was no water. kiana is visiting from the netherlands and saw pictures of the park online. >> yeah, it didn't match expectations, i would say. but it's still nice though. >> soon to be oak grove high school graduate darius meza said the garden is a beautiful backdrop. he looks forward to seeing the ponds restored. >> it's too beautiful not to be up to what it could be, you know, and people come here and if they see the water, they just want to keep coming back. and i feel like that's just the best for the park, harada said. >> repairs for the ponds is in the budget for next year. in the meantime, people can still enjoy what the japanese style tea garden has to offer.

>> this is a beautiful, meditative walking garden. it feels like we're somewhere completely different, away from the hustle and bustle of all the traffic in san jose. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> lagunitas is leaving the windy city, the popular bay area based brewery is moving its chicago brewing operations to its original brew house in petaluma. the change will affect 86 employees, some of whom will retain remote roles or relocate to california, according to a statement from the company. the chicago closure is expected to happen in august. lawmakers in the state assembly have approved a bill that would limit landlords who deny housing to pet owners. the bill would bar property owners from asking about pets on applications and prohibit additional monthly fees for pet owners, among other changes. san francisco assemblyman matt haney authored the bill. he estimates about 70% of california renters have pets, but only 30% of available rentals accept them. the bill

now moves on to the state senate will keep tabs, tabs on that for you. oakland mayor sheng tao is vowing not to cut jobs or services as she faces some difficult budget decisions. tao's office will release her full budget proposal tomorrow, so we're waiting for that today. she revealed a few of her ideas for trimming a deficit of about $117 million. one involves a hiring freeze and the consolidation of some city jobs. another uses money from the proposed sale of coliseum land. >> we're just thankful that you know that the stars kind of aligned. however, at the end of the day, we'll still be working towards making sure that we address the structural deficit as we want to be really responsible when it comes to our finances. >> council member noel gayo says right now he doesn't support the sale, since he doesn't even know if the city has the right to sell the land. >> i am not in support of it until i get clarity that legally i can sell that property. the coliseum property, to a private

entity. >> the mayor says her budget includes no cuts to the police or fire departments. the city council has until the end of june to submit its version of the budget. remote learning at uc santa cruz will continue tomorrow, raising some concerns about graduation plans. grad workers and teaching assistants are entering a fifth day of a strike against the uc system over how it handled the pro-palestinian protests and the encampment that popped up. this is worrisome to students because teaching assistants often do the final grading. the strike has been authorized to continue until june 30th, two weeks after the planned graduation ceremonies in person. learning is set to resume as usual on tuesday. some maui fire victims are getting the trip of a lifetime after everything they've been through. we'll take a look at who's footing the bill and making that possible. a bay area fitness festival, vendors paid to be involved, and it turns out to be a fitness fake.

spoke with vendors who were planning and paid to be a part of this. >> a little bit like a like what? this is what's happening right now. >> performance artist cassandra hampel, describing the moment when she realized a big fitness expo planned in santa rosa likely wasn't real. >> the main producer fell off of communicational bandwagon was really disheartening. >> norcal fit fest was scheduled for may 25th at the veterans memorial building, billed as a magical saturday packed with fitness, dance and health adventures so people invested their time and their money. sonoma county health and wellness professionals like tristan saint germain were contacted through social media in january by a man named john, asking if they would participate and pay between 90 and $120 through a paypal account for a booth at the festival. >> he said he was a philanthropist that has been retired and that he was helping his friends emily and jess, and that this was their event. >> tristan said it seemed legitimate. there was an event

website and posts on instagram, but when it came time to meet john and secure the event space with a signed contract last month, he no showed and never met us, never signed contracts, never paid anybody. >> all my friends for the work that they put in. that's when the light bulb happened with the like. >> this is a scam. >> we had red flags from the beginning. >> this group says the worst part is john added a benefit dance party to the event, with $25 ticket sales going toward medical care for tristan's teenage son kainoa, recently diagnosed with ms. tristan, believes that two was a scam, a bit bamboozled. >> i mean, i it's hard for me to understand how people can be so mindless and heartless and cruel, really, because i feel like they he really played on my vulnerability and the most vulnerable time of my life. >> we tried to reach john several times with voicemails, texts and messages. so far no response. police now investigating and they confirm fit fest is not happening.

>> you encourage anyone who uh- purchased their vendor space or their attendee tickets on a credit card to maybe give their credit card company a call. >> for now, vendors say they'll move on. tristan offering this gofundme page for her son's health care, which she says is definitely the real thing in sonoma county. cornell bernard abc seven news louisville police have released new video footage from an internal investigation into the arrest of the world's top golfer, scottie scheffler. >> scheffler is seen driving his suv as an officer runs after him. the officer swings his arm and hits scheffler's window. it appears the officer tried to open the door several times about 40s later, scheffler gets out, turns around and puts his hands behind his back and is taken into custody. not shown, the police report stated an officer was dragged by scheffler's suv. louisville police say they don't have that video because the officer didn't turn on his body camera. new research shows the chances of

having children are actually improving for younger women with breast cancer. the study was conducted for the american society of clinical oncology. of 200 women ages 40 and younger with non-metastatic breast cancer who wanted children, roughly three quarters were able to become pregnant after diagnosis and about two thirds went on to have a baby. experts say a big reason for the encouraging numbers advances in breast cancer care, which is good to hear. well, disney is helping give out free trips to disneyland for maui fire victims . after nearly a year of rebuilding and difficulties, some families have the chance to just get away and relax. >> i am happy, grateful that we get to get out of maui and something other than our get out of survival mode that we've been in since the fire. >> they've been through so much. alaska airlines is chartering the free flight for 180 people
