>> charles, congratulations. you haven't just won the monaco grand prix, you've won your home grand prix. how are you feeling right now? >> no words can explain that. yeah. it's such a difficult race. i think the fact that twice i've been starting on pole position and we couldn't quite make it makes it even better in a way. it means a lot obviously. it's the race that made me dream of becoming a formula 1 driver one day. yes, it was a difficult race emotionally. already 15 laps to the end you're just hoping that nothing happens. already the emotions were coming. i have to say that i was thinking to my dad a lot more than what i thought while driving. obviously he's given everything for me to be here.

yeah. it was a dream of ours for me to race here and to win. so it's unbelievable. >> everyone always talks about monaco as being the jewel in the crown, but they also say saturday it's the most important day. today there's still a lot of work to do out there on the track, 78 laps, the pressure from behind. you have to be a mathematician when it comes to deciding how hard to push. it's tough out there. >> it's really difficult. at first we had quite of lot of margin but we knew there were 78 laps to do on the same tires, which was very, investigator difficult. yeah, we did a great management of the tires. there was a big part of the race where we had to manage the gap with george and then i could push a bit more and the car felt amazing. i want to thank the team for having done such incredible work

weekend. >> you were giving the pressure at the end of the race there. >> once i was sure lando wouldn't attack me at the end, i focused on doing some fast laps. i went down to the 1:14s, which was really quick at the time. i said, maybe i have a chance at putting a bit of pressure on and maybe i can get him to do a mistake. yeah, we got him under but it was not enough to pass. >> nice work. >> thank you. >> ferrari have closed the gap to red bull's 24 points. the victory for charles leclerc today closes the gap to 31 points. verstappen will lead the championship, whatever happens in canada going into spain. with ferrari and mclaren closing

morning, the most in the bay area right now. we're also tracking a handful of delays in oakland and san jose. abc news reporter alison kosik tells us why travel in other states could be held back. >> there are still millions of americans traveling to their holiday destinations ahead of memorial day tomorrow. those traveling by air, dealing with packed airports, with people flying again, just like they did well before the pandemic. >> people are more confident in flying and traveling now. >> on friday, tsa says it screened more than 2.9 million travelers, surpassing the previous record set during the thanksgiving holiday weekend last year, four of the busiest travel days ever happening this month, helping to kick off what's expected to be a busy summer travel season, according to aa, more than 38 million people will be driving to destinations this weekend. >> i'm trying to, like, strategize if i want to, like, drive during the day or kind of

after a cold, wet winter. >> kind of nice just being close to the water. i think. just getting out and relaxing, getting some sunlight. we haven't had too much chance to really enjoy it. >> so this is our first time. really like soaking it all in, relaxing like, oh, it's the perfect time. >> three day weekend in santa rosa, cornell bernard abc seven news. >> today is the third anniversary of the deadly shooting at a vta rail yard in san jose. nine people were killed by a lone gunman in what is considered the deadliest mass shooting in bay area history. the vta observed a moment of silence at 6:38 a.m. to honor the lives lost. some trains and busses paused briefly at that time. a man who was riding a motorcycle died after being struck, and by a pickup truck overnight. it happened on highway one at murata road, just north of half moon bay. the san mateo county sheriff's office says the crash shut down the northbound and southbound lanes for more than four hours. people who knew the man who died held an impromptu vigil last night.
