presence will boost business in the struggling union square area. >> and you can own the mansion featured in home alone, just outside of chicago. it's now on the market how much you will have to pay to own a piece of cinematic history and people outside of your house taking pictures all the time. >> true, right? it's gonna happen. assume it. assume it. good morning. >> on this monday, may 27th, yes, we're going to start the check of our forecast. drew. yeah. >> it's shaping up to be a really nice afternoon. today is the warmest day of the three day holiday weekend. this morning we begin with the tam cam. it is showing you that our fog is with us in areas right now along the coast. we have cloudy skies reported across oakland into napa, but elsewhere we begin with mainly clear conditions, so temperatures right now underneath some of that cloud cover. we're cool in the 40s, like sonoma and san rafael around the bay shoreline, low and mid 50s, 52 in oakland right now 53. that current temperature in san jose along the coast this morning. we have that fog giving way to a mix of sun and clouds

as we head later into the morning and into the afternoon. highs today in the mid and upper 50s later on this afternoon. now around the bay shoreline. some patchy cloud cover right now. quickly breaks down for sunshine close to 9 a.m. so into the afternoon it's bright. highs in the upper 60s to the lower 70s. feels quite pleasant today. and then inland we have clear skies from the get go. that means lots of sunshine by 11 a.m. we're in the low 70s and then later on this afternoon it does feel warm. we'll have daytime highs in the low 80s. >> kumasi thank you drew. developing news in the east bay. firefighters still monitoring the scene of aasve fire in oakland. it broke out a lumber supply company on high street just off 8thflames and smoke prompting traffic delays and air quality concerns for people in that area. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez tracking the latest and gloria. thankfully, no one has been hurt so far. >> yes, kumasi nobody was hurt and our photographer, stefan stifter just got this video. you can see right here the fire is still smoldering and firefighters are still monitoring it. firefighters are

also still trying to figure out what the cause of the blaze is. big plumes of smoke could be seen in east oakland last night. the fire started around 7:45 p.m. yesterday at economy lumber company on high street near interstate eight. 80 people driving by could see it from the freeway. more than 75 firefighters responded. the oakland fire battalion chief says they initially faced access issues because of the train tracks there, and rail travel was stopped temporarily. >> upon arrival, they found heavy fire making its way and impinging into the main building of economy lumber uh- immediately on scene. our first two engine company called for a second alarm, bringing more units on scene. realizing that this fire was heavily established into the building and was going to cause us some significant difficulties to be able to put it out, the battalion chief says the building was used to store materials and was a main showroom for doors and windows as well, and high street near

the fire is still closed right now. >> there were no injuries reported, but a smoke advisory was issued late last night and fire officials are reminding anybody who lives in the area to keep their doors and windows closed to prevent any smoke exposure. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. more than 50 people who live at a senior care facility were displaced in the east bay overnight. a call about someone stuck in an elevator at the apartments in oakley spiraled into something much bigger. this happened at the oaks apartments on carol lane, just off main street, when contra costa county firefighters got there to help with the elevator, they found a sewage leak on the second floor. they say the water was spilling from a bathtub down into the electrical room. yikes. p-g-and-e's turned off the power and firefighters helped all the residents and their pets evacuate. it was especially stressful for seniors relying on medical devices. >> i didn't have an extra oxygen tank. i will be in bad shape

because they don't have no generators here. >> firefighters say they've been to the building several times before for flooding problems. the fire department says building management is putting residents up in hotels until that leak is fixed. >> it started with racist messages left at the front door. then a fire destroyed a san francisco family's home. now, neighbors near alamo square are showing that family how much they are supported in the community. abc seven news reporter ryan curry brings us the block party, helping them recover. >> a block party is always a way to bring a neighborhood closer together, but this one holds a deeper meaning. it's about supporting a family who currently doesn't have a home. >> i feel like, someone has died . my house died. my childhood house that i've been at since i was three years old. >> a fire broke out last week, destroying the inside. latisha's mother almost didn't make it. she says a neighbor had to help. >> her name was teresa. she's

helped my dad. she wouldn't let him go back in because he wanted to go get my mom. and i just want the world to know. i thank her. >> the fire came almost one month after leticia's brother, terry, started getting racist packages at his doorstep. one had a doll with a noose around its neck. terry is still processing everything. >> like i was having bad moments, man. like seeing my nephew break down this morning and like he was like, uncle, i never seen you cry before. my daughter's like. i never seen him cry before. >> daddy, he's lived in this area. his whole life, and he's gotten to know his neighbors through his dog walking service. the threats he received confound him! >> they're walking dogs, doing what i'm doing for so long. they don't like that i've been told they don't want me walking dogs. on a note, they said they don't want me up here no more. get out of here. >> the cause of the fire is under investigation, and police are looking into those threatening deliveries. but his neighbors on sunday wanted to make one thing clear. they've called it home for years. but now they can't go inside. but to get an idea just how much support they're getting from the

community. look no further. >> now you see all the love and all the kindness and everything that you've done for people in this community is being paid back to him. >> but it goes beyond messages on his house. one neighbor started donation bins for his family. the gofundme now has received over $100,000. he says this level of support gives him and his family strength. >> you can get down but keep your head up, keep pushing in san francisco. >> ryan curry, abc seven news. >> there are several events planned across the bay area today to mark memorial day. mare island naval cemetery in vallejo holds its ceremony starting at nine this morning. mill valley's annual memorial day parade begins with a veterans ceremony downtown at 945, followed by a parade at 1030. san francisco national cemetery and the presidio holds its annual commemoration starting at 1030 this morning. oak hill funeral home and memorial and memorial park in san jose holds a remembrance at 11 at the veterans section of the cemetery at 300 curtner avenue. and just a reminder, bart and muni are

running on a holiday schedule today. gathered at the uss san francisco memorial at land's end to honor fallen brothers and sisters, very few who served during world war two are still alive. this year's ceremony was a gathering of their descendants, family members who came together to recognize the tremendous sacrifice of those who serve for america's armed forces. >> time now, 608 this morning as we get you going on this holiday. we do have some fog out there along the coast, across the city, and patchy fog stretching into oakland and in napa. we'll bring back that sunshine in full force later on by about 9:10 a.m. across the region and temperatures will warm into the 60s right around lunchtime. your weather wellness today. air quality is good. we have some positive news when it comes to pollen levels. they were at high levels when it came

severe turbulence. the boeing 787 dreamliner was flying from doha to dublin, ireland, when turbulence hit in turkish airspace. that flight was able

to land safely in ireland. medics were waiting at the gate. six passengers and six flight attendants got hurt. eight people had to go to the hospital and this is what happened last monday. dozens of people got hurt when a singapore airlines flight flying from london to singapore experienced turbulence over thailand. a 72 year old british national died from a suspected heart attack during that episode. u.s. transportation secretary pete buttigieg says the sudden turbulence incidents are becoming more common because of climate change workers who ferry tourists to and from alcatraz island have walked off the job. last week, the union voted to approve the strike as a push for a contract with higher wages and benefits. the strike started saturday and forced some of their managers to pilot the boats over the holiday weekend. the union president tells our media partners that the sf standard that quote, the walkout would continue as long as it needs to until management decides to negotiate in good faith. the group that runs the

cruises says it will make sure this strike will not disrupt operations. is encouraging news for businesses in downtown san francisco. video game giant nintendo is making plans to open a store in union square next year. now, details on the store are still being worked out or unknown, i should say, but the company's first us location could be in location in new york. could be the blueprint. so that store is a two story building with games, merchandise, all the consoles. union square has space for a similar layout. >> you know, it's a great psychological boost. it's a great financial boost, and it really tells us that union square is still alive. it is still vital. it's still attractive. >> this is great news with nintendo, who doesn't like a nintendo? a nintendo store in union square in san francisco is fantastic. >> it is a sign of a promising trend. local commercial real estate experts say more businesses are signing leases in downtown san francisco. golden gate park's seasonal bar is expanding its beer and wine

garden into a cocktail foodie destination. its new name is the whale's tail, located on the jfk promenade. kids, dogs and bikes are all welcome. you can enjoy live music, food trucks, street art and games. it's open every weekend this summer and select holidays including today from noon to 6 p.m. >> it's the final day of the ski season in the sierra, the very last of the big ski resorts in tahoe palisades will be shutting down its slopes after one last memorial day ride. the resort called this past season memorable, with ample snow for visitors. the other big resorts, heavenly, kirkwood, northwood and sugar bowl, closed last month. >> new at six starting today, if you get federal assistance food assistance through snap, you can get into the monterey bay aquarium for free. all you need to do is show your ebt card and your id at the ticket counter. then you and up to three other people can get in for free any day of the year. the aquarium says its mission is to make sure everyone has access to the joy and wonder that the ocean

heat returning inland, feeling more like summer than spring. as you take a preview of the upcoming weekend, saturday and sunday, expect a lot of sunshine and above average temperatures. here's a look at the winds today. you can see by 5 p.m. we have that traditional onshore flow picking up in some areas. we'll see some frequent gusts over 20mph. at times we'll have mild sunshine, a look at our highs and our microclimates in the south bay, 74 and sunny in cupertino, we'll go to 76. in san jose, 75. the high in gilroy, along the peninsula. we're starting out with cloud cover. we'll have increasing sunshine. 50s for the coast, 60s and 70s from millbrae to palo alto, 69, in mountain view, across the city. right now, we do have that fog. we'll see that fog break down close to 11 a.m. this morning, upper 50s to the mid 60s in the north bay. it is mild with those sunny skies. 80 in santa rosa, 75 in nevada we'll go to 77. the high in vallejo, the east bay right now we do have some fog that will give way to sunshine closer to 9 a.m. this morning, mid 60s to the low 70s for daytime highs.

the event pays homage to cultural traditions in san francisco and of course, brings a financial boost. and what a beautiful day to have it. it's 20 blocks long. it celebrates the diverse latin american, caribbean and african roots of the mission district. the executive director says the 46th annual carnival is sending a message to the city and the world. >> the theme this year is honor indigenous roots, and so we're

blend of sun and clouds this afternoon. temperatures in the mid 50s. it will be breezy today. we'll have winds gusting about 15 to 25mph, peaking around 4 p.m. around the bay shoreline. we do have patchy fog out there. any of that fog really breaks down close to 9 a.m. for full sunshine. we'll get those temperatures today very pleasant in the upper 60s to the lower 70s inland. we have clear skies from the get go. it's going to be a warm one later today away from the coast, inland cities going into the low 80s by about 4 p.m. reggie aqui kumasi drew. >> thank you. developing news in the east bay. a massive fire destroys a showroom at a lumber supply company in oakland. this broke out last nign gh street, which is just off of 880 people driving by could see it and smell it, prompting air quality concerns. abc news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. gloria, that fire is contained, but crews are still monitoring it. >> yeah, they're still out there right now. reggie and we have this new video in that shows the fire is still smoldering and firefighters are still monitoring it. they're also

reminding anybody who lives in the area to keep their doors and windows closed to prevent smoke exposure. you can see the flames at economy lumber company on high street near interstate 880, in oakland. the blaze started around 745 last night, and there were plumes of smoke for miles in east oakland. more than 75 firefighters responded throughout the night. >> the fire was very established, putting up significant amount of heat due to the materials inside of this building being a lumber supply company, the building behind us was used to store materials. it also was their main showroom for doors and windows as well. >> rail travel was stopped temporarily and some roads were blocked after the blaze broke out. and right now high street is still closed. it's still not clear how the fire started, but thankfully no injuries were reported live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news thanks, gloria. >> it has been a deadly i'll take it from here. >> it's been a deadly memorial day weekend after two dozen

tornadoes tore through parts of the plains in the south, and this morning, the severe weather being blamed for at least 18 deaths. here's abc news reporter perry russom. >> a car is shaking. deadly tornadoes killing at least 18 people in the south and southeast in texas, governor greg abbott says at least seven people have been killed, including a two year old and five year old from the same family. >> this dog found alive in the rubble valley view, texas, north of dallas, one of the hardest hit cities. this gas station destroyed with 60 to 80 people hiding inside the sheriff says no one was seriously hurt. the destruction is widespread. the governor signing a disaster declaration for more than a third of the state. >> candidly, it's been a harrowing week, with lives lost, property reduced to rubble, the hopes and dreams of texas families and small businesses have literally been crushed by storm after storm.

>> storm stretching from texas to illinois. in oklahoma, hail the size of baseballs. in arkansas, at least eight people killed, buildings collapsing and roofs ripped off homes. >> we felt it hit the house and just felt it started sucking air up through the through the walls and the windows. >> tried to make it to the hallway. that's the most central part of our house. and that's when we realized we didn't have a roof. >> tens of thousands of people without power. >> we are seeing the great humanity of arkansans and neighbors helping neighbors, even when their own homes and businesses are damaged. >> the storms are now moving east and could likely have more effects on travel. there have been nearly 30,000 flight delays and cancellations since travel started on thursday. perry russom abc news, washington. >> developing news more than 2000 people could be buried alive after a massive landslide swept through papua new guinea on friday. that's according to

local government officials. a separate un agency says more than 670 people have died. crews are searching for survivors in an area that's about the size of 3 to 4 football fields. only six bodies have been recovered so far. papua new guinea's government has formally asked for help from other international groups in the east bay. >> port costa's annual community wide flea market was interrupted by a bomb scare on saturday. firefighters helped a resident pry open an old box handed down to him from a family member years back, and there was an alarming find inside a live hand grenade and a tear gas canister. firefighters gently set the box down, called in backup. travis air force base bomb squad showed up to take the hand grenade back to the base so it could be detonated. the sheriff's office took custody of the tear gas can. no one was hurt this morning. >> the community of half moon bay is in mourning. we've learned the victim in a deadly motorcycle crash is the mayor's son. san mateo county deputies

say it happened saturday along highway one near miranda road. and the unincorporated community of miramar. it is a painful loss for this close knit community. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone talked to neighbors who share concerns about that stretch of highway. >> half moon bay mayor joaquin jimenez's family, seen here in this video saturday night, are in mourning right now after the mayor's son died in this motorcycle accident. >> you know, saw the there was the truck there and the motorcycle that was more or less lodged under the truck was somewhat in the middle of the intersection. so they i, i think he was trying to make a left turn. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office is still trying to figure out what led to the crash, but says the accident happened here on highway one at morada road in half moon bay. the mayor's son is also named joaquin, and he was just 28 years old. sunday a picture of him and friends was left on display at the crash site,

surrounded by dozens of flowers. one of those flowers, left lying along highway one, just feet from where joaquin's motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. community members are heartbroken over what happened and for the mayor, who they say worked so hard for area farm workers after the half moon bay shooting, he made things he made change for a lot of farmers, and now he has his own tragedy to deal with. >> and i just i can't even imagine no parent should ever have to bury their child. >> those who live near this intersection say they don't feel safe turning left onto highway one here from morada road. is it a dangerous intersection? >> what are your thoughts? dangerous intersection. i've lived here for over five years in this neighborhood, and definite. it's a challenging to get across the highway safely, but i hate thinking about. >> is that it sometimes takes something tragic like this for a change to happen. like, you
