40s and 50s currently. as we take a look at the forecast first along the coast, we have that cloud cover right now giving way to some sunshine close to 11 by 4:00. we're in the mid 50s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline. we have a great start to our day, but that fog is pretty much gone by 11 a.m. and then into the afternoon we'll go into the low 70s. it is breezy today with winds frequently gusting over 20mph inland. this morning we do have a partly cloudy sky and then we'll find temperatures nice and mild in the upper 70s. let's check in on the roads with amanda. good morning. yeah good morning drew. >> we're going to start off with our overall map and a little update that stall that we are following on the upper deck of the bay bridge that is no longer slowing things down. it is actually cleared in the last 30 minutes. and then we're going to take you straight into dublin where there is a three car crash westbound 580 before 680, you can see speeds are down to ten miles per hour. this is going to impact altamont pass commuters specifically. they'll run into this with the drive times looking and reflecting that 70 minutes from tracy to dublin, 17 minutes from san rafael to san

francisco and then antioch to concord. that's going to take you 23 minutes. kumasi thanks, amanda. >> today a federal judge in san francisco is expected to reopen the sentencing of david depape. he is the man convicted of breaking into nancy pelosi's home and attacking her husband in 2022. the judge failed to allow depape to address the court before he sentenced him to 30 years in prison. he was convicted of attacking paul pelosi with a hammer. opening statements in the state case begin tomorrow. >> developing news out of san jose. this morning, homicide detectives will begin looking into the death of a woman found in a home following a shooting last night. dozens of officers swarmed a neighborhood on east julian and north 20th streets, which is across the street from san jose high school. police say they got a call about a possible shooting at the home just after 6:00. for 2.5 hours. they negotiated with the suspect, who was barricaded inside. the suspect was taken into custody around 830. that's when officers

found a woman's body inside the house. >> we are also tracking another major police response in the east bay. one person was taken into custody after an incident that put a whole concord neighborhood on lockdown. that shelter in place order started around 730 last night for the neighborhood around saint francis drive, just off cowell road. we are working to find out what brought police there in the first place, but video shows officers surrounding a man on the ground and taking him into a police car. officers gave the all clear around 845. >> the smoke has settled on the massive lumber yard fire that started burning in oakland sunday night. now investigators are looking into what started that fire. firefighter were on site for most of the day yesterday. crews brought in excavators to tear one of the buildings apart so they could put out the last hot spots. the owner of economy lumber, near the corner of coliseum and high street, says the losses are in the millions. >> well, i could go sit and cry,

but what are you going to do? i mean, like i keep closing my eyes and expecting you guys not to be here. and why am i at the lumber yard on memorial day? >> john bacon says his family has owned the business for more than 40 years. he says they'll stay closed the rest of the week. >> governor gavin newsom is feeling the pressure from his closest allies, the california teachers association has released a new ad taking aim at the governor over his education budget plans. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez here at the. look at that spot. and, gloria, what does the governor have to say about it? >> well, kumasi, i did reach out to the governor's office, but of course it is early. i have not heard back yet, but the ad urges the governor and lawmakers to pass a state budget that protects public schools. the ad by the california teachers association alleges that california classrooms are facing a crisis, predicting huge cuts to public education over the next three years. bigger class sizes and thousands of teachers laid off essential resources

like counselors, nurses and special education aides gone and the governor's office has set a revised may budget proposal for 2024 2025 would ensure the budget is balanced over the next two fiscal years, tighten the belt and stabilize spending after the pandemic. the governor's new budget calls for cuts of about $151 per student, compared to the january proposed budget, and it essentially delays billions of dollars in cuts to the future. the teachers union and the california school boards association tell the sacramento bee that the governor's maneuver to avoid $8.8 billion in immediate cuts to schools is not lawful under proposition 98. it sets aside a minimum amount of funding for schools in the state budget, and the ad is up on youtube right now. and again, i'm working on getting a response from the governor about this live in the studio. gloria rodriguez abc seven news. >> outrage is growing in the

international community over israel's attack on rafah. the un security council has called for an emergency meeting after dozens of civilians were reportedly killed in this attack. a man is at the live desk with more on how the biden administration is now responding. >> reggie, this morning, the biden administration is reportedly assessing whether the israeli airstrike on sunday crossed president biden's red line. the attack left a refugee camp in flames and according to the hamas run health ministry, the airstrike killed 50 people and injured hundreds of others. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu calls the airstrike a tragic mishap. he says there was a technical failure now under investigation, the israeli military says it was conducting an intelligence based strike which killed two senior hamas officials. the military also says it regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians during combat. the deadly strike targeted a location only 650ft from a designated humanitarian area. more than 1 million

palestinians have fled to rafah during the war to seek refuge, a us official says. material from the airstrike may have ignited a fuel tank, creating that huge fire. a white house spokesperson calls the images devastating thing, saying israel must protect civilians while maintaining israel has a right to target hamas militants. reggie. >> all right. thanks, amanda. today, grad assistants and faculty workers at uc davis and ucla will begin to strike over how the uc system has handled pro-palestinian protests in recent weeks. a group of union members went on strike at uc santa cruz earlier this month. they're asking the universities to drop disciplinary and criminal charges against its members. the uc system argues these strikes violate the union's contract. >> 608 this morning, we'll take you to our okay camera this morning, as one of the planes gets towed to its gate. you can see a lot of cloud cover up above the airport, reporting cloudy conditions 53 degrees right now with a light southwest

breeze that will pick up later on this afternoon. now looking at the travel forecast across the country, we're watching two areas. first, chicago will likely be dealing with some gusty thunderstorms, possibly some severe weather later on this afternoon. that's an area that could see some delays. and this morning we have a bit of fog in l.a. the marine layer is banked up right along our coast. we'll get some afternoon sunshine there. 71 the high in la, chicago 70 much warmer in atlanta with full sunshine, up to 87 degrees today. back here at home. here's future weather at 10 a.m. we're breaking down that fog around the bay shoreline. we turn to sunny skies right around lunchtime and into the afternoon. we will find temperatures pleasant, but we will find windy conditions as well. future tracker wind speeds showing you those onshore breezes. gusts anywhere from about 15 to 35mph later on today, so temperatures today 1 or 2 degrees cooler than yesterday. 60s mainly around the bay shoreline. our warmest areas inland in the 70s. it's game two

alcatraz who say they're at a breaking point. we first told you about their strike yesterday on abc seven mornings. and amanda, workers say that strike could happen again. yeah. >> kumasi. on saturday, workers went on a four hour strike to push alcatraz city cruises to listen to their demands. they say if the company does not listen, they may strike again. after two years of failed negotiations with the company, 94 union workers say they are running out of patience. they are asking for fair wages and they want alcatraz city cruises to maintain or meet what other ferry companies are paying their workers. >> we've had our economic proposals on the table literally for months now, and they were supposed to bring an economic response to us on the 23rd, and they did not. combination of things between wages uh- benefits, you know, medical and simple things, just like

scheduling these these folks here don't know what their schedule is a week in advance. they can't plan their lives. they can't take vacations. >> the general manager of alcatraz city cruises shared a statement. >> it reads in part, we are disappointed the union would threaten our passengers, partners and the community with a potential disruption of those services. supervisor aaron peskin represents the district where the cruise line operates, and he says the company needs to stop stalling and enter into a contract with the union. back to you. kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. california snowpack is once again melting into high water supply. this year's snowpack was 113% of average, so that means better business for river rafting. rafting companies say the late season storms making a huge difference this year. one owner in tahoe says a start to this year's season has been epic. >> we collectively think that june is by far the best month to go rafting. the water is still up from kind of the tail end of

the snow melt, yet the air temperature and the air temperature is extremely nice. >> if you can't make it by june, companies say they will have rafting through september because of the late season storm systems. >> memorial day drew thousands of people out to ocean beaches across california, but in southern california, some were not able to get in the water. a shark sighting south of los angeles closed all ocean access on sunday night. surfers in san clemente reported seeing a shark lurking around them. one surfer was even knocked off their board . >> it was a shark about six seven feet, roaming around, going back and forth as somebody who likes to get in the water a little bit, but is always a little bit leery about what's underneath me, it is a little scary. >> the beach was open for the holiday, but city officials enforce a 24 hour closure on the water. it's unclear if that closure has been extended. >> one of the world's rarest whales was spotted off the marin

county coast. these are photos of the north pacific right whale spotted last friday. just three miles west of point reyes. researchers aboard a noaa ship spotted the whale. the north pacific right whale is critically endangered. marine biologists believe there are fewer than 500 of the whales remaining. noaa says. right now, right whales are documented to sing or to use repeated patterns of whale calls, which makes them all the more unique. >> if you think that jeans are not comfortable, i don't understand, but i guess those people are out there. one clothing company has come up with a solution that is stylish and not stiff. they're actually sweatpants, but they're printed to look like they're jeans, and they're reportedly flying off the shelves. rag and bone created this. the company sold 200 200,000 of these so far. the denim looking shorts cost 98 bucks. the pants going for more than $200. i mean, that's how much rag and bone usually is. so that's about in line with what

live look at the pier 39 camera. the sea lions are awake this morning. we have overcast skies right now, certainly a may gray kind of morning out there. we'll find that cloud cover pretty much gone close to 10 a.m. this morning. and then we'll have sunshine this afternoon. the one issue by about 4 p.m. the winds will be gusty. we'll have winds gusting about 20 to 40mph. temperatures a couple of degrees cooler compared to yesterday. looking at your weather wellness today, air quality is good. we have fresh air out there. pollen levels, trees, especially at moderate levels. your uv index and eight out of an 11 that is very high. here's a look at the wind speeds as we go throughout the day. you can see the trend is for them to increase and peak after 2 p.m, and we'll find those winds out of the west southwest gusting about 30 35mph. later on this afternoon, with some higher gusts likely along the coast. so windy day in the city 61. it's breezy in the east bay. we'll go to 66. in oakland we'll have breezy conditions in the south bay as well, but it is very bright. 73

in san jose, warmer in santa rosa at 83. hit about 76 for daytime. high in concord. half moon bay clouds right now a little bit of afternoon sunshine, a high of 56 degrees. you will notice as you go throughout the evening a real lack of cloud cover. our marine layer is getting compressed as we head through the next 24 hours, so that means we really aren't going to see much fog later on this evening. in fact, overnight tonight we have a mainly clear sky because high pressure is building in and that high pressure is going to bring about a warming trend starting tomorrow feels almost summer like here by thursday and friday. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. gusty winds this afternoon. then we track that warming trend thursday and friday. look at those temperatures 90 in our hottest cities over the weekend as we welcome june the 1st of the month. on saturday, we will have temperatures closer to average with lots of sunshine both afternoons. guys. >> thanks, drew. now we're going to bring in ginger zee. she is live in new jersey with a look at what is coming up in gma. >> good morning ginger. >> hey good morning to you reggie kumasi. how wonderful to

be with you. yes we've got some sunshine behind me but boy did we have the tail end of that storm that did so much damage. it has been the busiest severe season to date in 13 years, and unfortunately we started the morning with even more 70 to 80 mile per hour winds in dallas fort worth. they've got ongoing warnings this morning. just chaos over the weekend, at least 22 people were killed, hundreds of homes and businesses have been damaged. and unfortunately, we got a real busy day ahead. i will be tracking that and gio is all over how this is going to impact travel. then this morning, 30 years after nicole brown's murder, her sisters sit down with diane sawyer in an abc news television exclusive, and diane discusses like only diane can, how they are really hoping to give nicole a voice. still. and for all of those that are in domestic abuse situations. also our exclusive with the american father now home after being detained in turks and caicos for having ammunition in his luggage. and finally, we have a grocery store challenge coming up this week on gma. we're taking store brands versus name

♪ ♪ slur during a closed door meeting at the vatican. italian news outlets report the incident happened last week. in the meeting, the pope apparently stated that gay people should not train to become priests. reports say during that conversation, he used an italian word that is an offensive slur for gay people. at least one bishop says he doesn't believe

the pope knew the word he used was offensive at the time. also new at six, an annual san francisco pride month tradition is almost here, talking about the installation of the pink triangle on top of twin peaks. organizers are asking for volunteers ahead of that event, which is happening very soon. saturday, june 8th. the installation requires the help of about 400 to 450 people. there's at least 5000 steel spikes that are driven into the hillside to hold the pink canvases in place for pride month, organizers say. all are welcome to join. just make sure you bring some gloves and a hammer. and i'm going to add, even though you see people here in t shirts, a jacket, because you just never know. up there this morning we're looking at the real purpose of memorial day, a time to remember and honor our fallen soldiers and to recognize their bravery and courage, their services across the bay area from san francisco to across the bay in vallejo and beyond, at san francisco national cemetery in the presidio. praise for the men and women who have served and sacrificed is. navy veteran patrick o'neill was at the

you back to dublin. that three car crash. the good news here is that it has cleared. speeds are down to 59mph. it will still impact and slow people down if you're taking the altamont pass though, so just keep that in mind. and then to vallejo where they are stopped traffic on westbound 37 between sacramento street and the merge. there, traffic continues slow out to the raceway at six miles per hour. kumasi >> thanks, amanda. closing arguments in former president donald trump's hush money trial begin today. the trial wrapped up after more than four weeks in nearly two dozen witnesses. the defense rested its case last week. trump didn't testify. he's facing 34 charges in new york for allegedly covering up a payment made to stormy daniels. he's pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing. jury deliberations could start tomorrow. >> severe storms over the holiday weekend are being blamed for at least 22 deaths, including some children. amanda has more on the tornadoes and thunderstorms that have caused so much trouble for millions of people. >> reggie. it has certainly been

an active few days of severe weather in some parts of the country. it arrived as millions of people returned home after the holiday weekend, and the storms are heading east with downpours in d.c. and a tornado warning in maryland. this is the same system that created more than two dozen tornadoes over the weekend. it left destruction in oklahoma, kentucky and texas. residents in valley view, texas, one of the cities hardest hit, are clearing out the debris. my mom, she's still in the hospital. >> she's in the icu, she broke her spine in half, in the middle, i believe. and she has broken ribs, so she can't feel her legs. >> and this is what's left of one couple's barn. they hid in a bathtub with their dog as a tornado ripped apart their home around them. the storm is impacting travel with major delays at airports in both dallas and atlanta. back to you, kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. developing news out of sacramento this morning. police searching for a suspect after five people were shot. it happened last night

outside of an apartment complex in south sacramento. police say three men, a woman and a teenage girl had to all be rushed to the hospital after being shot. >> it is believed that all five individuals that were shot were in close proximity to each other. at the time of the shooting, so they were all known to each other like a party happening or anything. i don't know if it was a party, but i do know that they were all together and in the same area when they were when they were shot. >> all five of the victims are expected to be okay. it's not clear what led up to the shooting. police haven't released any other details about the investigation or the search for the suspected shooter. >> the california teachers association is escalating its pressure campaign against governor gavin newsom. it's paying for a new tv ad targeting education spending cuts amid a massive budget shortfall. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here with a look at the teacher's message. gloria. the ad features newsom himself in 2021, promising to transform the education system. >> it does. reggie and the ad urges the governor and lawmakers to pass a state budget that
