is america this morning. >> good thursday morning everyone. i'm rhiannon ally and i'm andrew dymburt. >> we begin with former president trump's criminal trial. the jury is about to begin day two of deliberations. >> but before they do, they have made two requests. they have asked the judge to reread jury instructions, and they have asked to hear some crucial testimony for a second time. >> abc's perry russom has new details on this. perry. good morning andrew. >> good morning. the 12 jurors deciding whether to convict trump had some questions for the judge about three hours into their deliberations this morning, the second day of jury deliberations and former president trump's hush money trial after the jury met for more than four hours yesterday. sources say the longer the deliberations last, the more trump's legal team is hoping for a hung jury. we want chaos. we want evidence of strong disagreements, a person close to trump's legal team tells abc news. the jury pausing deliberations yesterday to ask two questions. the first, a request to rehear testimony from

trump's former fixer michael cohen, and former national enquirer publisher david pecker regarding a meeting in trump tower in 2015 where prosecutors say trump, cohen and pecker hatched a scheme to bury damaging stories about trump. a catch and kill agreement. the second question from the jury requested the judge to reread his jury instructions. it tells us that they're taking the prosecution's theory at least seriously. >> they're asking a lot of questions already about this 2015 meeting at trump tower, which prosecutors argued was the beginning of the scheme between david pecker and michael cohen and donald trump. and then three of the four requests relate to specific conversations with donald trump himself, because that's one of the critical questions in the case, is exactly what did donald trump know about this? not what was michael cohen doing, but what did donald trump know? >> sources say trump's lawyers are optimistic after hearing the jury wants to rehear testimony from cohen, a possible sign they want to examine his credibility.

but sources say trump's legal team did not react positively after finding out jurors want to rehear testimony from pecker, who linked the catch and kill agreement to trump's presidential campaign. the jury is weighing whether to convict trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records for a payment to stormy daniels before the 2016 election to keep their alleged affair secret from voters. trump denies the affair. >> mother teresa could not beat those charges. but we'll see. >> and this morning, the judge will bring jurors out for readings of the testimony they've requested and then deliberations resume. rhiannon. >> all right. perry, thank you for that. the other big story this morning is new concerns about the terror group isis. k the concerns not just overseas but now right here at home this morning, police on high alert after terror threats made against the upcoming cricket world cup on new york's long island. >> we take every threat seriously. >> authorities now saying an extra 100 officers will be

assigned to the event after a pro isis k outlet circulated this poster calling for a lone wolf attack on the june 9th match between india and pakistan . >> an we handle these threats the same. it doesn't matter when you got a game and a crowd as big as this, everything is credible. >> hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the tournament. a no fly zone will be enforced and no bags will be allowed inside unless they are clear and medically necessary. isis has carried out multiple high profile attacks just this year, killing more than 100 people at this concert hall near moscow in march. and killing more than 90 at a funeral for an iranian general in january. >> terrorists only have to be right once. we have to be right all the time. >> new york's governor says the state has been working with federal officials for months to secure the tournament. >> another close call at a major airport, this time at reagan national, just outside of d.c,

an american airlines plane taking off for boston was speeding up to 110 miles an hour when air traffic controllers ordered the pilot to stop. >> three 2134 cancel takeoff clearance. two zero alpha go around, go around rejecting the takeoff. >> 2134 zero off, off. i cannot go around. we were already out on the ground, so the smaller plane in this incident that was already on the ground used a runway that intersected the one being used by the american airlines jet. >> the faa is now investigating. no one was hurt. we've reported on the shortage of air traffic controllers. no word if that played any role. yeah. you got a gas leak right there. >> gas leaks, i got her, i got her, and new body camera video shows the moments after a building explosion in youngstown, ohio. >> first responders pulling out several people. investigators say so far, they've found no evidence of suspicious activity. one man who worked at a bank was killed. experts now say american made bombs were used in israel's

airstrike in the southern gaza city of rafah sunday, which reportedly killed at least 50 people. >> israel says the airstrike was targeting hamas fighters and that a tragic mishap is what set off a massive fire. meanwhile as israeli forces pushed deeper into rafah, a top official is predicting at least seven more months of war. one palestinian woman leaving rafah said she and her family have been displaced 18 times now to the outcry over high prices of fast food restaurants. >> we've reported about chains like mcdonald's promising new discounts, but now a top executive at the golden arches wants to clarify something. >> when the deals this good, you can wild out every day. >> this morning, the president of mcdonald's with a message to america. our prices aren't that bad. his message coming after reports of a big mac meal costing $18. company president joe erlinger saying we have seen poorly sourced reports that mcdonald's has raised prices significantly beyond inflationary rates. this is inaccurate. erlinger says that

pricey big mac meal was only at one location near greenwich, connecticut. he says the average price nationwide is 929. still, that's a 27% increase since before the pandemic and when it comes to the overall menu, erlinger says prices are up roughly 40% due to supply chain issues and wages. in response to consumer backlash, the company has announced a new $5 value meal this summer. burger king then, following suit. meanwhile, chipotle is also feeling the heat. >> this is like $1,213. i only get one two. i think i can see like four pieces of chicken firing back at critics online who claim their bowls are a little barren and executive now insisting there have been no changes in chipotle's portion sizes. >> backlash over high prices also extending to major clothing, grocery and pharmacy chains. walgreens has announced it's cutting prices on 1300 items, joining walmart, target and amazon, who have announced similar discounts back to mcdonald's, the company president acknowledged they must stay laser focused on value and affordability. >> pro golfer scottie scheffler

says he is moving on now that the charges against him have been dropped. he was arrested two weeks ago in louisville, accused of disregarding police orders outside the pga championship. scheffler called it all a big misunderstanding. he spoke to an officer while in custody. >> i should have stopped. i did get a little bit impatient because i'm quite late for my tee time. i did not know that he was a police officer. i thought he was one of the security guards. that was mistaken. >> his lawyer says scheffler won't be suing police because taxpayers would end up paying for it. >> time now for your thursday weather. well, a strong storm system dumped large hail across ohio and west virginia as it moved into the northeast. clear skies, though, will follow today, but more severe weather is expected from the plains into central texas. some of the same areas that were hit by deadly storms in the last week could be hit again. and checking today's high temperatures triple digits in the southwest, mostly 70s from the northeast to the

to a vet. >> it's not a surprise you'd like to see supreme court justice samuel alito is refusing calls to recuse himself from cases involving the january 6th riot at the capitol. democrats made the request after two flags carried by rioters were seen outside alito's homes, including an inverted american flag. alito told lawmakers the wives were his. the flags were his wife's idea, saying, quote, my wife is fond of flying flags, i am not. and alito says neither he nor his wife knew the appeal to heaven flag at his beach house was linked to the stop the steal election disinformation campaign. alito's case has added to calls among critics for an enforceable ethics code. >> a new ruling in the case of scott peterson, the california man in prison for killing his pregnant wife. his legal team wants evidence retested for dna. abc's andrea fujii reports on the judge's decision this morning. >> a setback in the fight to exonerate scott peterson in the murder of his wife, laci, and their unborn son in 2002. a judge late yesterday denied the

la innocence project's request for new dna testing on all but one of 14 items in the case a piece of duct tape found on laci's pants. >> i am not making a determination about whether mr. peterson is entitled to a new trial. i'm being asked to decide whether he is going to have access to evidence to test it. >> the la innocence project is seeking a new trial, claiming additional evidence has come to light, and saying the evidence used to convict peterson was only circumstantial. no murder weapon was found, no time or even date of death was established, no cause and manner of death were ever established. the defense claims a local burglary and an old van are crucial to the case. they claim laci witnessed a break in across the street from their home the day she went missing. the next day, the burned out van was found nearby with a bloody mattress inside it. the defense wants that mattress retested for dna, but the judge denied the

request, saying the evidence presented isn't enough to warrant a retest. prosecutors claim the burglary was at least two days after laci vanished, and that the van has nothing to do with this case. >> the evidence doesn't have the value, it doesn't have. the trust that should be entitled to reopen this room. >> the duct tape found on laci's pants that will be retested was first tested in 2003 and was found to have human dna, but at the time it could not be traced to anyone. the judge stressed her ruling on the dna testing has no merit on whether or not scott peterson will receive a new trial. the next hearing is set for july. rhiannon andrew. >> andrea, thank you for that. coming up, the volcano erupting in the north atlantic. >> also ahead, forget regular band-aids. these bandages could be
