drops, a lot of like, frenzy. it's going to be very, very high energy and sold out in san francisco tonight. >> two popular deejays are expected to bring up to 25,000 people to civic center plaza. good morning everybody. it's saturday, june 1st. i'm stephanie sierra. let's get right to your forecast. lisa is here and i like the color coordination we have going on this morning. >> right i know good morning to you. we are looking at a cool down this weekend. so if you thought the last couple of days were pretty hot, they were in spots. but certainly that breeze picked up yesterday. you can see a system moving into the pacific northwest. and in response to that, we're going to have the winds pick up and more fog move into the bay. it's 53 in fremont as well as oakland with 50 two half moon bay. there's patchy fog and some clear sky to the north, so we've dropped off into the upper 40s. santa rosa and novato. so anywhere from about two to about seven degrees cooler this morning. and the winds are already kicking up in concord. gusts to 28 miles an hour. so we'll look for the

clouds to start. and then they're going to clear to a mostly sunny afternoon. but it's going to be cooler. the winds are going to be breezy to gusty and highs trimmed back at least ten degrees in our inland valleys, maybe about 5 to 6 degrees around the bay. so we'll talk about further cooling. and then a major heat wave coming our way in a few minutes. stephanie. >> all right. lisa thank you. it's june 1st today and officially the start of pride month. celebrations have already started for many cities in the bay area. organizers say that events this year could be part celebration and part call to action in san francisco. this year's parade grand marshals ushering in pride for me, all the people that grew up listening to watch it on tv, they're part of the lgbtq community. >> that means a lot to me. it's about just being your authentic self and just be you. and not think about anything else. >> it's embracing the fact that we can shine and also be a beacon of love. even in the

darkest times. the theme this year is beacon of love, and i think that that's what it means to me this year. >> well, you can celebrate pride with abc seven all june, and you can watch our exclusive live coverage of the 54th annual san francisco pride parade live on june 30th. streaming everywhere you watch abc seven and west hollywood is home to one of the largest pride celebrations in the nation. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the three night party this weekend. today is the start of the street fair and women's freedom festival. sunday is the parade. there are extra deputies, security and other first responders on hand to make sure everyone has a safe experience. >> security is our top priority here. we want to make sure that everybody who's coming into west hollywood, not just the festival grounds, but the city as a whole, feels comfortable and safe. >> diplo will be taking the stage this weekend, as well as musical artist cyndi lauper, who

will be headlining on sunday. she's this year's lifetime ally icon honoree. turning now to new developments. three people have been charged in the murder of a man whose body was found in pleasant hill this year. 37 year old santiago jacobo was stabbed and killed after his custodial shift at the park in february. his wife found him outside of a park and police say jacobo and the suspects, two women and a man, all knew each other. they say he was in a relationship with one of those women, and that she was being romantically pursued by the male suspect. police say evidence indicates they all worked together at an assisted living facility, and the attack was coordinated. notorious killer richard allen davis will not get his death penalty conviction overturned. a santa clara county judge denied a motion to overturn the sentence. davis got for killing 12 year old polly klaas back in 1993. attorneys for davis argued the death penalty conviction

should be reconsidered because of california's moratorium on executions. polly's father, marc klaas, said the family will only get closure when davis is put to death. a reminder you can watch our streaming documentary, struck by justice the impact of polly klaas, over on our abc seven news streaming app. it's about the tough on crime laws that followed the murder of polly klaas. paul pelosi faced his attacker in a courtroom in san francisco. it is trial number two for david depape, now facing state charges over the assault at the pelosi home. the husband of speaker emerita nancy pelosi told a jury how he went to get help that night in october 2022, paul pelosi explained how he got to a bathroom to call 911, then convince depape to go downstairs where police could get to them faster. pelosi's testimony came after sfpd lieutenant carla hurley spoke, and at one point she held the hammer used in the attack. she also described the

contents of depapes backpack. it included an inflatable unicorn costume depape says he planned to wear during his interrogation of the house speaker. depape was already convicted on federal charges and sentenced to 30 years in prison. now to a story you'll see only on seven calabanga and the south bay will not be opening next week. as expected, the popular san jose water park, once known as raging waters, is making a comeback. abc7 news reporter lauren martinez talked to the ceo about what to expect. >> just in time for summer. raging waters, now called calabanga, is just weeks away from opening in june. >> it's going to be a big surfboard, it says calabanga and, yeah, we're going crazy. >> steve dooner is the ceo of california dream and entertainment, which acquired the park. for the past 90 days, crews have been repairing and revamping the 23 acre water park. >> this park. what's nice about

it is it's big and the you're surrounded by all this nature. >> dooner has built a career creating theme parks for disney and universal studios, making improvements to this park hasn't been easy. >> you ever see the movie the money pit? this is it. >> the work behind the gates has included new food partnerships and installing three acres of turf. >> this is a high end competitor of, almost like a golf course, grass and underneath it we put a layer of what's called cooling sand. so every morning we spray the whole thing down. it retains the water. so when you walk on it, it's not hot. >> california dreamin entertainment and the city of san jose, which owns the land, struck a deal earlier this year, with local hiring being key. cowabunga san jose. they're hoping to fill 400 positions, and to date, they still need 250 more. >> but yeah, we need we need people, fast and furious council member domingo candela said the new operators are making a big investment. >> it's not little money, it's a it's a couple million dollars.

woman from the north bay is a nominee for the nobel peace prize, the international eurasia press fund announced heidi kun's nomination. the san rafael resident is being recognized for roots of peace, a group that's helped remove landmines and replace them with orchards around the world. kun is thanking her family and friends in the bay area for supporting her work. >> all of my friends in marin county, the greater san francisco bay area, and around the world made this happen. >> kun's group planted more than 7 million trees on reclaimed mine fields, helping war torn countries create jobs and food sources. her work has made a difference for people from guatemala, south africa, ukraine and afghanistan. khan, the peace prize winner, is announced in october. building a better bay area is our mission here at abc7, and this morning we're highlighting a breakthrough in one county's efforts to tackle homelessness. a federal judge is

allowing marin county to keep managing an encampment that stretched for a mile. at one point, the encampment runs along binford road, parallel to highway 101 north of novato in marin county. has a plan to eventually move all the people living there into housing. in the meantime, the county is removing any belongings spilling out from the rvs. this week, people living in the encampment asked a judge to stop that practice. the judge rejected their request. the encampment went from 115 residents last summer to 90 people. there are plans now to get them all housed within three years. a breakthrough in oakland, where it's the first week of summer for students and the city is making sure no child goes hungry. more than 50 locations for the summer food service program have opened at places where kids are already spending their summers. 35,000 kids rely on free or reduced lunches in oakland during the school year, and the city's goal is to serve

more than 120,000 meals over the next few months. >> that hot lunch is what families depend on during the school year because of the, you know, what's going on, the inflation prices are going up. it's hard to pay bills now. >> these meals were funded by oakland's sugar sweetened beverage tax that was passed by voters in 2016. our last breakthrough is a bay area institution, at least for beer lovers, that is. that could be pouring suds again. anchor brewing closed last year after more than 100 years, but it's getting a new owner now. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has what we know about this buyer. >> the city leaders are calling this a very big deal for san francisco. anchor brewing set to reopen the taproom, including the factory here on dejaras street. a billionaire stepping up to make that investment. >> the beer is just excellent,

this weekend. festa italiana gets kicks off today and runs through tomorrow. it is the annual summer street festival of italian food, drink, music and culture and you'll be able to find it all on stockton between union and filbert. look at him tossing around those pizzas. i went last year at least. it's a lot of fun and i get hungry every time thinking about all the cannolis they have. they're so delicious. >> yeah, it's going to be windy today, so we're looking at a cool down and those winds really kicking up right along the coast. so limited sun there. we'll get into sunny skies. but that wind offsetting that warming and in fact temperatures coming way down because of this system behind me that is moving into the pacific northwest, bringing a lot of rain. and with that rain will be the recipients of the cool weather. so we're well into the 80s yesterday. and looking at that cool down for the next several days. so right now it is 46 in sonoma. clear there, 53 in oakland with

temperatures in the 50s in danville and hayward. so look at the airport where we have the clouds stacked up, areas of fog, breezy to gusty and cooler. today. looking at the middle of the of next week, where that is where we have a summer like sizzle. so here's the fog footprint. so notice we have along the san mateo coast it's patchy the marin county coast. and then it clears. this is tonight. and then we'll be looking at more fog and cloud cover pushing across the bay area into your sunday morning. once again we'll get into some sun partly sunny to mostly sunny conditions for your sunday, but boy, check out these winds all throughout the day. they'll continue to build 30 to 40 miles an hour and then across the bay common to have winds over 20 miles an hour in all the neighborhoods. so the outlook for the week ahead, looking at that hot weather coming back into play, while it's cool in the northeast, we've got the possibility, a great possibility of temperatures becoming above average throughout much of the

upcoming workweek. and already the national weather service has issued a heat risk for the delta , northern and southern lake county. and this is for wednesday morning into thursday morning. and that could expand closer to the bay area. here's a look at tuesday, where we've got 70s and 80s from oakland to san francisco. the coast still stays comfortable. but look at these 90s arriving for tuesday. then wednesday this could be the warmest day of the week where we're looking at the possibility of temperatures over 100 degrees. so lots of heat here to contend with, and even the coast beginning to come up into the 60s and 70s. so these two days, tuesday, wednesday day, if you're planning anything next week, you want to keep that in mind. but by thursday, the heat begins to loosen its grip. and you'll notice that we've got the 70s and 80s returning still fairly warm as you get out towards antioch, but nothing like that two day stretch where we're talking about temperatures anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees above average. so we're going to go down this weekend and then coming up throughout the middle

atop of a huge atlas five rocket that will propel it into space after blasting off from cape canaveral in florida. it's the second attempt to get to the international space station. the last launch was scrubbed because of a fluttering oxygen valve. now it's all set to launch, even though there's a small helium leak. mission managers say it's safe and there's a redundant system we could manage about, roughly a double the leak rate. >> and we could manage it in flight. what we will do is we'll look at, once the system is pressurized and open, we will be able to look at how much helium is being used from the tank. the mission is already years behind schedule because of software glitches and fuel valves and parachute problems. >> today's crew of two veteran astronaut test pilots, butch wilmore and sunny williams, and they're ready to go to get in with your suit, plug into the spacecraft, affect the mission from launch.

are under arrest in connection with retail crime across the state. that resulted in more than $1.5 million in losses. california attorney general rob bonta joined law enforcement members from several different departments to announce those arrests, and bonta says the suspects are members of an organized crime ring responsible for more than 20 robberies and burglaries, similar to those captured on video right here in the bay area. and they're charged with stealing merchandise from high end jewelry stores in san diego, orange county, orange, riverside and kern counties. that is going into stores when members of the public were present, engaging with with the retail employees and removing and stealing and grabbing, smashing and grabbing at times jewelry and fleeing the store, of course, without paying for it. bonta says the arrests

everybody i'm larry beil. >> thanks larry. well the giants take on the yankees again tonight. first pitch is at 705. so it's going to be pretty cool out there lisa yes that's right steph. >> the winds should be beginning to dial back a bit but it's still going to be breezy. so here's a look at the reason why. system plowing into the pacific northwest bringing plenty of rain allowing for the return of our marine layer. and some breezy to gusty winds here as well. it is 52. in san francisco. you can see the gray sky already there, 53 in oakland, 55 hayward, san jose. and a look at the airport where we've got the low clouds. it warmed up quickly yesterday, well into the 80s in redwood city. but then the winds kicked up. so it was a warm wind, kind of a wild afternoon with all that wind after the heat. low 40s with the clear sky in petaluma right now with 54 by the delta. and it is getting kind of breezy over into the east bay, low to mid 50s. there's a look at our sutro tower camera. so there are areas

of fog mainly along the peninsula this morning. today breezy to gusty with temperatures at least 20 degrees cooler in some spots. and we're looking at that heat coming into play. triple digit heat tuesday wednesday. for much of our inland valley communities. here's a look at the marine layer. and this is 1030 where it is just patchy along the marin county coast. and you'll notice we clear it's sunny, but it'll stay gray and cool there and then into your sunday early morning hours. notice we have more widespread cloud cover. pulls back. we'll get into some sunshine, but once again there'll be more clouds around sunday into monday. the winds swell. they'll continue to build. look at all throughout the day over 30 miles an hour up in the north bay and over 20 miles an hour from about oakland. down through hayward, up to about 29 miles an hour. redwood city, another gusty day for you. so next week the entire state will experience some sort of heat. and already from the delta to the carquinez strait in lake county, we have an

excessive heat watch for wednesday morning into thursday night, but this will be fine tuned as we get closer to it. and as we look at the high temperatures in oakland for your saturday, you'll notice that it's pleasant in the 70s. it's going to take some time to get there. it'll be breezy. we increase the clouds on monday and it's already getting kind of warm there and into tuesday. looking at the warmth in the 80s as well for parts of the bay shore, highs today in the low to mid 70s. so a big turnaround from yesterday's 80s. 77 in san jose, sunny. but to get closer to the coast it's partial sun and wind with mid 60s san mateo downtown is going to be about 65, but those winds will be quite gusty and up in the north bay. notice still some warmth there with some 80s into santa rosa. 75 san rafael. that's a cooler day for you. and on the east bay we've got low 70s from union city today and yesterday we were near 90 in spots. it was 92 in livermore today looking at

on. >> he's played with the legendary band malo and with carlos santana, and now leo rosales is part of a new group, momotombo sf. the ten piece band is made up of mostly former members of santana and malo, and they're playing at this weekend's annual latin jazz festival in downtown hayward, where they've played before. >> the reaction was really exciting. people just were dancing our whole set and everybody is very, really, really family oriented. you know, wherever you go. people were, you know. hello. how you doing? nice to meet. you can get an autograph, you know, t shirt. and so it was just very, very nice atmosphere. and so it's a it's an honor to be invited again. >> the 70 year old grew up in san francisco. he remembers being inspired to play latin rock after seeing the band santana at the fillmore when he was a teen drummer. >> it was like i had a moment of clarity. i was like, this is incredible music and this is
