francisco to two popular djs are expected to bring up to 25,000 people to civic center plaza tonight. good morning everybody. it's saturday, june first i'm stephanie sierra. let's get right to your forecast lisa is here. and boy this cool down we're prepping for. yeah that's right. >> we've felt the wind yesterday. most of us you can see the fog behind us and the satellite picture confirm terms that there's a system moving into the north of the coast there. and that is bringing some pretty good rain. so still, the air quality is moderate and once the winds continue to overspread the bay area, we get improved air quality. there's a look from our sutro tower camera. the cloud cover stacked up 52 san francisco and half moon bay, 53, in oakland, and a hazy looking bay bridge where numbers are from the low 40s in petaluma to the mid 50s in concord. that is anywhere from a degree to about six degrees cooler from livermore to san jose. and there are the winds from oakland to

concord, 24 to 29 mile an hour gusts. and from okay, our camera there, you'll notice the cloud cover over into the east bay. so sunny and cooler for the bulk of the day with those gusty winds. temperatures down at least ten degrees in many locations, possibly more than that, especially in the inland. even the peninsula dropping considerably. and those winds making it kind of a blustery and cool if you're closer to the shoreline. so we'll talk about the increasing clouds tonight and the heat coming our way next week in a few minutes. stephanie. >> all right. lisa, thank you. happening today san jose mayor matt mehan will deliver his second state of the city and address. uh- is supposed to focus on service. he will be joined by other city leaders and volunteer groups at the happy hollow park and zoo. and he told our news partners at the mercury news that he sees it as a community work opportunity city. mehan is expected to work on the site with other community members after this address. service awards will also be presented. well, it's june 1st

today and officially the start of pride month celebration have already started for many cities in the bay area. organizers say that events this year could be part celebration and part call to action in san francisco. this year's parade grand marshals ushering in pride for me. >> all the people that i grew up listening to watch it on tv, they are part of the lgbtq community. that means a lot to me. it's about just being your authentic self and just be you and not think about anything else. >> it's embracing the fact that we can shine and also be a beacon of love, even in the darkest times. >> the theme this year is beacon of love, and i think that that's what it means to me this year. >> celebrate pride with abc seven all june and you can watch our exclusive live coverage of the 54th annual san francisco pride parade live on june 30th, streaming wherever you watch abc

seven. and west hollywood is home to one of the largest pride celebrations in the nation. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend the three night party this weekend. today is the start of the street fair and women's freedom festival, and sunday is the parade. there are extra deputies, security and other first responders on hand to make sure everyone has a safe experience. >> security is our top priority here. we want to make sure that everybody who's coming into west hollywood not just the festival grounds, but the city as a whole, feels comfortable and safe. >> diplo will be taking the stage this weekend, as well as musical artist cyndi lauper, who will be headlining on sunday. she is this year's lifetime ally icon honoree. we're also following new developments now. three people have been charged in the murder of a man whose body was found in pleasant hill this year, 37 year old santiago jacobo was stabbed and killed after his custodial shift at a park in february. police say

jacobo and the suspects, two women and a man, all knew each other. they say he was in a relationship with one of those women and she was being romantically pursued by the male suspect. police also say evidence indicates they are all working together at an assisted living facility, and that attack was coordinated. notorious killer richard alan davis will not get his death penalty conviction overturned. a santa clara county judge denied a motion to overturn the sentence davis got for killing 12 year old polly klaas back in 1993. attorneys for davis argued the death penalty conviction should be recalled because of california's moratorium on executions. polly's father, mark klaas, said the family will only get closure when davis is put to death. a reminder you can watch our streaming documentary, struck by justice the impact of polly klaas, over on our abc7 news streaming app. it's about the tough on crime laws that

followed the murder of polly klaas. paul pelosi faced his attacker in a courtroom in san francisco. it is trial number two for david depape, now facing state charges over the assault at his home. the husband of speaker nancy pelosi told a jury how he went to get help that night. in october 2022, paul pelosi explained h he got to a bathroom to call 911, then convinced depape to go downstairs where police could get to them faster. pelosi's testimony came after sfpd lieutenant carla hurley spoke, and at one point she held the hammer used in the attack. she also described the contents of depapes backpack at the time. it included an inflatable unicorn costume that depape says he planned to wear during his interrogation of the house speaker, depape was already convicted on federal charges and sentenced to 30 years in prison. now to a story you'll only see

on seven calabanga in the south bay will not be opening next week. as expected, the popular san jose water park, once known as raging waters, is making a comeback. abc7 news reporter lauren martinez talked to the ceo about what to expect. just in time for summer, raging waters, now called calabanga, is just weeks away from opening in june. >> it's going to be a big surfboard. it says cowabunga! and, yeah, we're going crazy. >> steve dooner is the ceo of california dream and entertainment, which acquired the park for the past 90 days, crews have been repairing and revamping the 23 acre water park. >> this park. what's nice about it is it's big and the you're surrounded by all this nature. >> dunar has built a career creating theme parks for disney and universal studios, making improvements to this park hasn't been easy. >> you ever see the movie the money pit? this is it. >> the work behind the gates has included new food partnerships and installing three acres of

turf. this is a high end, competitive, almost like a golf course grass. >> and underneath it we put a layer of what's called cooling sand. so every morning we spray the whole thing down. it retains the water. so when you walk on it, it's not hot. california dreamin entertainment and the city of san jose, which owns the land, struck a deal earlier this year, with local hiring being key. >> cowabunga! san jose. they're hoping to fill 400 positions and to date, they still need 250 more. >> but yeah, we need we need people. fast and furious council member domingo candela said the new operators are making a big investment. >> it's not little money, it's a it's a couple million dollars. he hopes with the new energy back to the park, it can bring new focus to the surrounding lake cunningham to be incorporated the marina and to see how we can potentially reimagine this park for, for decades to come, for the community to be able to enjoy, quite frankly, for dunar and his team, he said, the home stretch is the fun part.

on the launch pad again this morning, and a bit of boeing's reputation is on the line as well. the starliner capsule sits atop of a huge atlas five rocket that will propel it into space. after blasting off from cape canaveral in florida. it's the second attempt to get to the international space station. the last launch was scrubbed because of a fluttering oxygen valve. now it's all set to launch. even though there's a small helium leak. mission managers say it's safe and there's a redundant system. we could manage about, roughly a double the leak rate, and we can manage it in flight. >> what we will do is we'll look at, once the system is pressurized and open, we will be able to look at how much helium is being used from the tank. >> the mission is already years behind schedule because of software glitches and fuel valves and parachute problems. today's crew of two veteran astronaut test pilots, butch wilmore and sunny williams, and

laying out a new proposal by israel for what he calls an enduring cease fire. >> for months. people all over the world have called for cease fire. now it's time to raise your voices and to demand that hamas come to the table. agrees to this deal and end this war that they began. >> the proposal includes three phases. the first would be a six week cease fire, when israeli troops would withdraw from gaza. some hostages, including americans, would be released. phase two would allow for the release of all remaining hostages, while both sides negotiate for a permanent cease fire. now, phase three is a plan to then reconstruct gaza, including homes and schools. there is no indication yet whether hamas will accept israel's deal. pro-palestinian demonstrators who were camping out at uc santa cruz for a month were cleared out by law enforcement, but not for long. university officials say the unlawful campers had a chance to

that resulted in more than $1.5 million in losses. california attorney general rob bonta joined law enforcement from several different departments to announce these arrests. bonta says the suspects are members of an organized crime ring responsible for more than 20 robberies and burglaries, similar to those captured on video right here in the bay area. they're charged with stealing merchandise from high end jewelry stores in san diego, orange, riverside and kern counties. >> going into stores when members of the public were present, engaging with the retail employees and removing and stealing and grabbing, smashing and grabbing. at times, jewelry and fleeing the store, of course, without paying for it . >> bonta says the arrests are the result of an investigation that started more than a year ago, helping to build a better bay area. new federal funding

will be used to help streamline public transportation in contra costa county. transit officials say it could boost ridership and have a huge impact on the county's fastest growing population, aging seniors. the goal is to help people plan their routes better, even if they use multiple transit methods, including paratransit. i had to take thr transit systems to get there, and as a consequence, going was slow enough. >> but coming back, it took me four hours. >> the contra costa transit authority says the new one call, one click system will streamline this process. this impacts riders using any of the county's 12 transportation systems. they hope to have it up and running next year. for more than 20 years, her work changed lives around the world. now, a woman from the north bay is a nominee for the nobel peace prize, the international eurasia press fund

east of us, so the winds continue to build throughout the day. 36 to 43 mile an hour wind gusts from the san mateo coast, the marin county coast, and then across the bay. 25 to 30 miles an hour. so a breezy day. and the national weather service has already speculated that the sacramento valley, the carquinez strait, it's going to be pretty hot there to near 100 degrees. so get closer to the coast and it's pretty nice. look at the upper 70s for tuesday in san francisco. so that is 13 degrees above average in wednesday it stays mild. so leading up to that it's cool and breezy with the fog. and then we'll look for the warmer weather. and then dropping off next thursday and friday. highs today in the south bay from those mid 80s to the upper 70s. for you in morgan hill to san jose, sunny skies on the peninsula, a mix of clouds and sun with mid 60s san mateo to the low 70s los altos. so that's a big switch. and look at the wind. it is really going to be gusty at times from the coast, although you'll see some sun, but it is going to be a

of latin rock in the bay area, will be playing. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez has the details. >> reporter he's played with the legendary band malo and with carlos santana. and now leo rosales is part of a new group, momotombo sf. the ten piece band is made up of mostly former members of santana and malo, and they're playing at this weekend's annual latin jazz festival in downtown hayward, where they played before the reaction was really exciting. >> people just were dancing our whole set and everybody is very, really, really family oriented. you know, wherever you go. people were, you know, hello. how you doing? nice to meet you. you can get an autograph, you know, t shirt. and so it was just very, very nice atmosphere. and so it's a it's an honor to be invited again. >> the 70 year old grew up in

san francisco. he remembers being inspired to play latin rock after seeing the band santana at the fillmore when he was a teen drummer. >> it was like i had a moment of clarity. i was like, this is incredible music. and this is what i'm supposed to do. >> little did he know, he'd eventually play with carlos santana. a full circle moment. >> i think that that is one of many highlights in the career. playing carnegie hall central park, uh, american bandstand, rolling on the river with kenny rogers. those are, you know, playing at the fillmore, playing at winterland, where all of your friends come and they see one of their homeboys up on the stage. >> now, rosales and the rest of momotombo sf are bringing their own flair to the jazz festival. >> what we're trying to do is to keep the legacy alive of latin rock music and by the way, the name of the band comes from a song on a malo album. >> the jazz festival in downtown hayward goes on saturday from
