flag. and why a famous donkey is getting $10,000 from one city with a budget problem. abc seven news at 430 starts right now. >> always live. abc seven news starts right now. >> we begin today with the explosions of color and joy as the bay area kicks off. pride month. the celebrations this year are part party, part call to action. hi everybody. thanks so much for joining us. i'm dionne lim, the rainbow flags are flying today and thousands turned out for pride celebrations across the bay area . it has been a big you can see there lots of joy on market street in san francisco. as the s.f. lgbt center holds its first block party celebrating pride. they brought in live music and food trucks to kick off the month. in pacifica, neighbors celebrated with a car parade down beach boulevard. a festival followed at ingrid b lacey school complete with music, food

and local artists and in the north bay, sonoma county kicked off the month with its biggest pride parade ever. thousands of people came together to celebrate equality, love and inclusion. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard takes us to the party. >> the sun was shining in santa rosa, and so was the pride. this parade through downtown giving vibes of love and inclusion. >> pride is about celebrating community. everybody coming together and, celebrate our differences, our similarities and, being present >> thousands of people coming out for the 39th annual sonoma county pride parade and festival. the spurlock family is here showing their support. >> it's just a moment to really be proud of ourselves and celebrate and just be be us. >> we grew up in a place that did not have a lot of queer support, and so it's really nice

to come out and just see a big community. uh- supporting the queer community. i love to dress up and show my, and my support as an ally because, this is just the best day. >> i have so much fun at pride. >> some marched advocating for the rights of trans youth, which are under attack across the country. >> i think it's really sad that people are attacking people who are just trying to live their lives and be themselves. >> years ago, this pride parade started very small, with a few dozen participants. today it stretches more than a mile with a record 105 parade entries. i've been here all along, so i've seen the growth and it's great. it's all about inclusion and that's important. and our community understands that. they appreciate it and they support it. >> pride overall for me, means that we can be out and proud in a safe place and be with our loved ones. >> organizers say it's great being among the first in the bay area, kicking off pride month celebrations. >> we love it. we call it the

book ending. you come here, you have a great pride, and then you go to san francisco and have a better pride in santa rosa. >> cornell, bernard, abc seven news. >> i like that book ending. you can celebrate pride with abc seven all month long and watch our exclusive live coverage of the 54th annual san francisco pride parade live on june 30th. it's streaming everywhere you watch abc seven on what was once a dreaded high school tradition is turning into one of the hottest tickets in town spots to take the sat are tough to get, and today, more than 1000 registered students didn't even get to start. parents tell us a wi-fi outage at the downtown marriott in oakland kept their kids from taking the test today. it just went all digital this year, replacing the bubbles students used to fill in with pencil. the college board, which runs the sat, says about 1400 students couldn't take the exam. sats testing spots have been limited in northern california. the college board blames it on a

shortage of schools willing to serve as test centers. in an email to families, the sat program apologized for the issue, promising a refund and an opportunity to retest. new at 430 now, a small fire forced people to evacuate a park in san mateo this morning. that fire started just after 1030 in the grass near the dog park at seal point park. that's off jay clinton drive. the good news firefighters were able to put it out within an hour or so. no word yet, though, on how it all started. and another small fire gave firefighters a scare up in lake county. this is a time lapse of that fire in clear lake. strong winds made this fire spread fast, burning more than one and a half acres. the fire even threatened a building. fortunately, the smoke was pretty much gone by 1:00. university of california police are searching for an arsonist suspected of torching one of their police cars on the cal campus. take a look at the

damage to the vehicle there. uc berkeley says the suspect set fire to the car just after 5 a.m, and it happened right behind behind sproul hall, where the uc police headquarters is located. the suspect wore all dark clothing and walked up bancroft way after setting that fire. administrators are asking for your help. if you have information about this morning's arson. building a better bay area is core to who we are here at abc7, and today we're getting an update on how that work is going in san jose. mayor matt mahan delivered his state of the city address this morning. he focused on crime, police department staffing, traffic safety and small businesses. but the main focus the mayor says, is getting people off the streets. his plan includes an investment in safe sleeping sites. more than 600 new quick build units and a new safe parking site for people who live in their cars. >> over the next year, we will move over 1000 additional people out of unsafe conditions who

would otherwise continue to live on our streets and along our creeks. >> mayor mahan also thanked volunteers for participating in initiatives that beautify the city like this mural painting project from earlier this week in san pedro square. he says in the last year, san jose has seen a 300% rise in volunteerism. happening tonight, thousands of music lovers will come together for an outdoor rave in downtown san francisco. and people are already lined up to get in check it out. 25,000 people are expected to attend a huge electronic dance party featuring dj skrillex and fred again. it's all happening at civic center plaza and nearby business owners tell abc seven they are hoping for a positive impact. the show is sold out if you plan on driving in the area tonight, you can expect traffic delays and road closures. if you plan on riding bart this weekend, expect

some delays. crews will be doing maintenance between the 24th street mission and daly city stations. trains could be delayed up to 30 minutes and green line service is canceled now. because of this, bart is offering free bus service between the two stations. developing news now from the middle east, where both israel and hamas are reacting to a multiphase cease fire proposal. that proposal was put forth by israel, but was announced by president biden friday. it includes an initial six week cease fire, where the most vulnerable hostages will be returned to israel in exchange for the release of hundreds of palestinian prisoners. israeli troops would withdraw from some parts of gaza. humanitarian aid would increase. today, the president is urging hamas to take the deal. hamas has said it views the proposal positively, agreeing there must be a permanent cease fire in the region. >> it's time to begin this new stage for the hostages to come

home. for israel to be secure, for the suffering to stop. it's time for this war to end. >> now, despite this being an israeli proposal, it doesn't sound like israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is completely on board. he says the war will not end until israel's goal of freeing all the hostages and destroying hamas's capabilities are achieved. the university of california system is once again asking the state to intervene in a strike set to grow next week. the union for student workers is planning to expand the walkouts to three new campuses this week, all in southern california. they're demanding the universities drop discipline cases over pro-palestinian protests. the uc system is appealing to a state board claiming the walkout by thousands of student workers is illegal. the state rejected the uk's first request. now the union president told us in a statement, quote, management clearly knows that our work is

necessary for the functioning of the university. if they want that work to resume, they should seriously engage with the mediation process and stop wasting time and public resources on legal maneuvers. we'll check this out. this image is setting off big alarm bells for scientists. one of california's largest lakes just turned so green it's actually visible from space. nasa captured the satellite image of clear lake in lake county a few weeks ago. scientists chalk up the sickly color to a major algae bloom there. it's not clear if the current color is from harmful blue green algae, though, which can make people and pets sick. scientists with the county say more testing will give a clearer picture. >> it's only reflecting green algae. maybe there's some cyanobacteria, but you don't know unless you do the sampling on the ground. >> lake county says algae blooms tend to happen at this time of year, and research shows they are only getting worse. an historic site could soon be home

the sound of boeing's first ever crewed mission to space being called off yet again. the starliner spacecraft holding two nasa astronauts, was scheduled to blast off this morning, but the flight was scrubbed less than four minutes into liftoff due to technical issues. tomorrow, june 5th and june 6th, are the next opportunities for that launch. the peninsula could eventually become home to silicon valley's tallest building. there is a new plan to build a skyscraper at the former headquarters of sunset magazine. sunset sold its longtime headquarters in menlo park a decade ago. a developer submitted plans this month for a massive new development on the land filled with apartments, offices, restaurants, a school and parks. the developer wants to build a 431ft tall, high rise

with condos and a hotel. it would be the tallest building in the bay area outside of san francisco. today, people from all around the state kicked off june in the cutest way possible. at the first ever california adopt a pet day. the aspca and cal animals partnered with more than 170 animal shelters to offer free adoptions. several bay area organizations participated, including the san francisco spca. the goal is to make adoptions affordable to help with overcrowding at shelters. >> you know, we wanted a chance for shelters to tell the public about what's happening with the number of animals coming into shelters and we just want to celebrate our really what we can do as citizens and helping the situation. and that is adoption. >> and what a turnout to we do want to give a big congratulations to all of the pets who found their forever homes today. and of course, their new owners. well done. well, speaking of animals, he is the bay area's most famous donkey and apparently he just

toe, but the city is getting pushed back for ponying up the cash. no pun intended. the donkey, named perry, lives in a park in palo alto's barron park area. now volunteers care for perry and several other burros. perry's claim to fame is, the city says animators used images of him to create donkey from the shrek films. perry is getting up there in age, and palo alto's mayor wants to help the volunteers with his medical bills. now this month, at a city council meeting, other city leaders shared reservations about handing out so much money when the city is in a deficit, the city is losing money. >> we have a deficit this year. we have a deficit next year. we have deficits for the next four, four years or so. and so it just seems irresponsible in my opinion. >> it's a great opportunity for well-being in the community as well to be able to interact with

these wonderful animal animals. >> the mayor says the donkey money is coming from a discretionary fund that is about to expire and does not roll over . some may find this ridiculous. that's all i could come up with. >> i know there was a great debate over this, but i think the two sides decided to burrow the hatchet. >> oh so obvious. i should have thought about it that is pretty good. >> i guess it's time to get along. interweb now here's a look at what's happening in the atmosphere there. a lot of a lot of cloud cover pushing into the pacific northwest. and some of it is approaching the bay area coastline and of course, we've got a cooling onshore flow which has dropped temperatures dramatically since this time yesterday. look at the gusts we've got right now, 31mph at sfo, 40 mile per hour surface winds in san francisco, all across the area. it's breezy to gusty. and what about the 24 hour temperature change? it is 16 degrees cooler in concord right now than at this time yesterday. 18 degrees cooler in livermore, 12 degrees cooler. hayward 11 degrees cooler in

novato. all around the area. it is cooling down, but we've got blue skies just about everywhere except at the coastline. 59 degrees in san francisco right now. low 60s in oakland and hayward, mid 60s. redwood city, 72 at san jose, looking down onto the city from mount tam. the temperature readings of this hour 88 up at santa rosa. that's pretty warm. 70 petaluma. napa 7480 at fairfield. low to mid 70s at concord and livermore. let's check out our forecast headlines this evening. for those who may be going out with plans outdoors this evening. bright, breezy, mild tomorrow and monday, though, look for partly cloudy and cooler weather. and tuesday and wednesday a sharp turnaround sizzling summer like heat will move into the bay area. but for this evening, though, just that continuing onshore flow will see some stratus clouds developing along the coastline. later tonight we'll see the fog expanding a low, clouds expanding across the bay locally inland, there may be a patch or two of early morning drizzle overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s, so pretty mild overnight and then highs tomorrow near 50

near 60 rather at the coast 66 here in san francisco. low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline and only low to mid 80s inland tomorrow. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. they'll be further cooling on monday. cloudier and cooler then. but look at tuesday and wednesday. a rapid warm up begins on tuesday inland. highs upper 90s up to about or maybe even above 100 inland on wednesday, upper 80s around the bay shoreline and then a nice cool down on thursday. still pretty warm inland and next weekend going into the weekend, cooling down all over again. >> giants and yankees are gonna hit the field for game two of a three game weekend set tonight at oracle park. first pitch 705 last night's star of the show, yankees perennial. all star, two time mvp aaron judge, who grew up a giants fan, the pride of linden and fresno state, took the field. i went to fresno state at oracle park for the first time in his career, a given giants fans a close look at the player they tried to acquire two off seasons ago. judge hit not one but two home

runs in last night's yankees six two win, capping off a month of may, where he hit 14 home runs and set a yankee record for most extra base hits in a month. afterwards, the northern california native had a chance to reflect on the journey from giants fan to play on the field at oracle park. >> yeah, you dream about it in the backyard, you know, playing around a little bit and you know, crew can keep i've heard them for years. call the games and you know hear all the homers that barry hit here. so it's pretty cool rounding the bases. i kind of looked out to left field and you know, being out in those bleachers a couple times and just just brought back some memories. it's a special place, you know, grew up a giants fan. you know, love coming to games out here. so pretty cool being on the opposite side, being on the field now don't pitch to judge a's and braves a wild game in atlanta that included mascots body slamming each other. >> watch out. i love that kind of stuff. already. six three a's in the fourth. brant rooker his 12th of the year. he body slams at baseball eight three in the a's are looking good, but it all
