multiple homes on fire. sky seven is live now over that scene just off of quimby road. firefighters say there are three separate fires burning right now. we've seen very intense flames come off these homes as firefighters blast them with hoses. this is happening just off of east capitol expressway, not far from the reid-hillview county airport. there are homes burning in at least two spots that we can see on sand point drive and on judkins court nearby. right now, we're hearing the fire started on sand point as a garage fire and then spread to a house and a court about a block away. cameras captured how that smoke quickly uh- went up just after five tonight, going from dark smoke to light. you can see it's blowing pretty much sideways in this video. back to sky seven. now intense firefight happening right now and again a live look. right now we have a crew on the ground now gathering

information for you, and we'll bring you updates as they become available. thank you for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. now to another brush fire near livermore that forced evacuations and burned a home. here's the latest on the so-called corral fire. it has scorched 14,000 acres, nearly 29mi■!s. cal fire now saying its 50% contained. some neighborhoods were evacuated, but moments ago, we got word that evacuation orders would be reduced to warnings. two firefighters were injured. cal fire says they were taken to the hospital suffering from minor to moderate burns. to add to that concern, the fire is burning near the lawrence livermore national lab site 300 and experimental test site of explosive materials. you see the fire is right along i-5 80. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard spent the day there and has the latest on the brush fire fight. >> cal fire says crews have gained the upper hand on this

major fire. most neighborhoods are now out of danger. sadly this home here on bernard road and west tracy was lost in the fire. folks here got out safely. but firefighters say strong winds fueled this fire across thousands of acres, chasing many people from their homes. >> it was very terrifying. fire. big, big, huge fire in front of our eyes. a very scary 24 hours for angie garcia. >> her family sharing this cell phone video of the corral fire making a fast march toward her tracy hills neighborhood saturday night, we packed our things as there was a warning that of evacuation. >> barely got any sleep. >> neighbor lakshmi says she grabbed what she could and got out. >> when we started seeing the flames, we saw how catastrophic it was and the whole hills were burning. i think from my from my house we could actually see like a big line of fire. >> cal fire says fierce winds carried the grass fire from near the livermore national laboratory site 300 to the edge

of the tracy city limits. >> this is the largest significant fire of the year for us as an agency. >> battalion chief josh silvera says. 400 firefighters from across the state helped stop the wildfire at interstate five, 80 just yards from homes. he says by sunday, the weather started to cooperate with calmer winds and cooler temperatures. >> last night we had very different conditions. we had sustained winds in the high 30s, low 40s. >> this ranch home west of 580 was destroyed in the fire. cal fire says the residents living here got out safely. >> it was very scary to be out of town and not be able to here, be here and do anything, amanda mamani lives across the street. >> a portion of her front lawn shows how close the fire got before firefighters stopped it. we're so incredibly thankful. >> like beyond belief uh- seeing part of our grass right there burned is like scary enough. >> from sky seven. you can see how close the fire came to other homes in the area. just a matter of feet. residents sending a

very big thank you to all firefighters. >> thank you to everybody who had worked hard and given us the home back. thank you so much. >> interstate 580 through tracy has just reopened, and we have learned that mandatory evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings, meaning people can return home, but they must remain vigilant in case they have to leave. once again, a cause of the fire is under investigation in tracy. cornell, bernard. abc seven news, cornell. >> thank you for that. let's bring in abc seven weather anchor spencer christian to talk about the winds that have been a problem for those crews. and we continues to be a problem. spencer. >> that's true. joe. not surprising because it's windy all across the bay area. let's take a look right now at the wind speeds, the surface winds all across the region. you can see gusts between 25 and 30mph along the coastline. but even inland areas have pretty windy conditions as well. so i'll take you to the site of the corral fire. now we've got a three panels up here. the one in the middle is from altamont, which

is not reporting temperature and humidity. right now, but you see gusts there up to 29mph. now, over in tracy, the wind gusts only under ten miles per hour at the moment. and over at livermore, just a just under 15mph. that's not very strong, but you have to bear in mind that near these fires, these fires can create their own microclimate. so near the base of these wildfires, they could generate wind gusts that are far , far greater than what we're seeing at the reporting station. so it's quite a challenge for the firefighters. we don't expect the winds to diminish much during the overnight hours, but at least the humidity is going up and that's that's an improvement. that's encouraging. i'll have our full accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. >> j.r, thanks so much, spencer. we are sending updates as they happen on this brushfire on the abc seven news bay area app. you can download it and enable push alerts to get news notifications sent to your mobile device. with our weather getting hotter and conditions getting drier, cal fire has suspended burn permits starting tomorrow. in the counties that you see here on

your screen. cal fire says its crews have already responded to 1200 fires this year. the fire agency is asking everyone to take time to ensure that they are wildfire prepared in the south bay. police in san jose are investigating the city's 17th homicide of the year. officers got a call about a person down just after 1115 this morning near 17th street and east santa clara, right next to roosevelt park. police tried to help the person, but the victim died at the scene. we don't know yet how they died or whether police have any suspects in the east bay. two people are in critical condition after an suv hit them while they were setting up for the walnut creek farmers market this morning. police say it was a hit and run, and they later arrested the driver. abc seven news reporter ryan curry is hearing from vendors tonight. >> i spoke with the vendor earlier this afternoon who told me he was on his way to start setting up for the farmers

market when he got a notice from the organizers saying it had been canceled. the farmers market usually takes place right here on locust street every sunday in walnut creek. this is locust street, right between la cassie and cole street, walnut creek. police say this happened just after five in the morning. closer to cole street. when they arrived, they saw two people who had been hit by an suv. they located the driver after the crash and arrested them. the vendor who i spoke with says he sells here every single weekend. he told me the people who were hit were vendors, but does not know who they are yet. he says this area can be dangerous. in the morning, they put the signs up, they put the blockage up to block the road. >> but people ignore that. they don't seem to. i mean, they'll drive up on the sidewalk to go by. >> i did reach out to walnut creek police for an update. i am waiting to hear back. the name of the driver has not been released, but police did say they are expected to be facing charges. the vendor you heard from says police are normally here when the market is open during its operating hours, but they are not here when people are setting up and tearing down.

after this morning, he says he would like that to change in walnut creek. ryan curry, abc seven news. >> happening today, polls just closed about an hour ago in a historic election in mexico. the country is likely to elect its first female president. mexican voters living in the bay area showed up to the polls in san jose and san francisco today. just look at the line wrapping around the block outside of san francisco. consulate general of mexico, the two leading candidates are women claudia sheinbaum is part of the leftist party and backed by the outgoing president. but the conservative candidate is social, gave. this is the first year that mexican citizens abroad can vote in person at consulates outside of mexico. >> it feels pretty good because we didn't see this much like mexican and like people, you know, come together to vote for our own rights. >> in parts of mexico, voters waited many hours in 104 degree heat to cast their ballots. again, polls just closed at 5:00

them. california wildlife officials say their latest seizure may have prevented a potentially harmful incident. these six toes were being illegally shipped to the bay area. they're called granular toads and are usually found in the amazonian basin. they're a restricted species in california because they could pose a threat to bay area wildlife and ecology . the toads were seized by the california department of fish and wildlife and are now at oakland zoo's vet hospital. the zoo is working with a wildlife confiscation network to find them a new home. kids in the bay area had an opportunity today to build their imagination brick by brick. up next, meet the winner of this year's legos bay area mini master model builder competition and heading live outside. get ready for a shot of summer heat. we'll learn just how hot it will get ahead. >> coming up live in sports from oracle park. the sprinklers just

fires with gusts up to about 30mph in many locations near the coastline. and as you can see, even our inland areas have quite windy conditions right now. here's a view from emeryville. looking westward under a mixed sky. some blue, some clouds 59 degrees here in san francisco right now. mid 60s at oakland and hayward, upper 60s in redwood city, 70 at san jose's 55 at half moon bay. nice view from mount tam looking down onto the bay and you can see a few clouds developing here. but most of the bay area is experiencing mostly sunny skies right now it's 85, in santa rosa, only 64 in petaluma, mid 70s in napa and concord. fairfield 80 degrees and 71 and livermore. looking across the bay toward the bay bridge from our exploratorium camera. these are our forecast headlines. it will be mild tomorrow. cooler than today, though, and that will be just one day of cooling because tuesday and wednesday we are going to have sizzling summer like heat with temperatures up around 100 degrees in some of the hottest inland areas. and under those conditions, a heat advisory has been issued for most of the bay area for, in

fact, for all of the bay area, risk of heat related illness along with that advisory overnight, we'll see some low clouds increasing so that marine layer is coming back and tomorrow morning it'll be out there providing its cooling effect. so that's one reason we'll have a cooler day tomorrow than we had today. let's take a look at our overnight low temperatures. it's going to be mild overnight. uncomfortably mild in some spots where low temperatures will drop only to the upper 50s to low even mid 60s. that's very mild for overnight readings. and tomorrow a cooler day than we've had this weekend, with highs barely reaching 60 on the coast, 65 here in san francisco around the bay shoreline, we'll see low 70s inland areas, mainly upper 70s, with 1 or 2 locations topping out at or above 90 degrees. now let's talk about the heat alerts. we have a heat advisory in effect for all of the bay area from 8 a.m. tuesday to midnight thursday, all of the bay area except the coastline and the immediate bay shoreline, and over in solano county, it's a an excessive heat warning. so under these conditions, again, increased exposure to the heat

and sun can lead to heat related illnesses. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. look at that spike up in temperatures on tuesday and wednesday. highs inland, upper 90s to about 100 around the bay shoreline. upper 80s to near 90. even mid to upper 60s on the coast. now on thursday, although the heat starts to ease off a little bit, it'll still be very warm inland with highs in the mid 90s. friday we finally get more cooling and then going into next weekend it will be a much more comfortable and a much more healthy pattern of weather. >> it's sports live from oracle park giants finishing up a tough six game home stand, they took on two of the best teams in baseball. first, the phillies. they won two of three today trying to avoid the sweep to the yankees who put it on them late in this one here in san francisco to the highlights. we go. nice day at the ballpark. and great to see this. the oldest living major leaguer at the game today. mill valley native, former yankee art schallock turned 100 in april. also a world war two navy vet.
