now a five. a wildfire continues to burn in. tracy, we have the latest information and the number of acres it is now burning. >> three separate fires all burning at once, just blocks apart in a san jose neighborhood . we are hearing from one homeowner who was inside when the fire reached her home. >> a hit and run crash at a local farmers market. two people critically hurt. what we know about the driver this morning. good morning to you. it is the first day of pride on a weekday. so happy pride month to all of us. yes, yes, i'm going to count that as something. >> it counts, friend. >> it does. >> it all counts. yes and today starts cloudy and cool. and then our first heat wave of the season is upon us starting tomorrow. here's live. look outside. this is our sutro tower

camera. we've got a mix of low stratus, fog, clouds, and then up above we have some high, thin cirrus clouds. so a lot going on this morning. you can see variable sky conditions, some areas reporting clear skies, other areas reporting mostly cloudy conditions today. just a mix of sun and clouds. temperatures right now in the 50s and in the 60s. underneath those cloudy skies in areas, believe it or not, there's rain falling across parts of northern california around eureka. this cold front will bring us one comfortable day today, and those temperatures take off in a big way tomorrow. so today along the coast, it's pretty cloudy. we have temperatures basically in the mid and upper 50s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline. it's a lot of cloud cover today. some peeks and pokes of sunshine throughout the afternoon. temperatures basically in the mid 70s and then heading inland. not too much warmer than that. we'll find some breezy conditions at times and then highs in the upper 70s. but by tomorrow, get ready. our first heat wave of the season, our first heat advisories and excessive heat warnings will kick in here starting tomorrow, lasting through thursday. so we'll take

a look at the hot temperatures reggie aqui coming up in a few minutes, but let's check in with amanda and see how the commute is going. >> yeah. good morning drew. our overall map showing a smooth commute in much of the bay area except for that typical slowdown, of course, on the altamont pass westbound 205 is slow from highway five to northland road on westbound 580. there were closures yesterday into the early morning. today because of that corral fire. expect minor delays on 120 in manteca as you head into the bay area. but back to the desk. >> thanks, amanda. developing news on that massive wildfire near tracy. hundreds of firefighters still looking at these hot spots. the corral fire in san joaquin county started over the weekend. it quickly jumped to more than 14,000 acres. drivers along 580 could see it for miles. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here with a look at the damage, and gloria, we know at least one home is gone. >> yes, reggie, but the good news is that firefighters are making progress on this fire. and right now, the corral fire in san joaquin county is 50% contained. evacuation orders have been lifted and downgraded

to warnings. the fire started on saturday afternoon east of a lawrence livermore laboratory site near tracy. more than 400 firefighters responding and two alameda county firefighters were hospitalized for treatment of minor to moderate burns on saturday. colonel gil has lived on bernard drive for about four years. he noticed his neighbor's house across the street was up in flames. >> uh. we were in the thick of it. we couldn't breathe, couldn't see. the heat was intense. burning your eyes, burning your eyebrows. it was intense. >> cal fire says fierce winds carried the grass fire. but by sunday, the weather started to cooperate and calm winds and cooler temps took over. the cause is still under investigation and residents in the area are asked to stay vigilant. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news if you're driving along highway four this morning, you will notice charred grass. >> a small brush fire burned

about two acres near the willow pass road exit last night. it started around 830. it was quickly contained. as we get into fire season, make sure you have the abc seven bay area app. we'll send alerts with the latest information on fires, the weather forecast, where you live and other breaking news as it happens. so just make sure to turn on notifications today, pgd will give an update on what it has done to prepare for this year's fire season. >> the event includes p-g-and-e's fire forecast and a demonstration of how they're using technology to mitigate the risk of fires. p-g-and-e's been spending millions of dollars every year for the last few years on projects to protect the power grid from fires. the work ramped up after a series of devastating wildfires across northern california. you may remember back in march, the california public utilities commission approved an electricity rate increase to help pay for that work. also today, with our weather getting hotter and conditions getting drier, cal fire has suspended burn permits in the counties that you see here on your screen

. cal fire says its crews have already responded to 1200 wildfires just this year. the agency is asking all of us to make sure we are ready for a wildfire, and we have tips to help you get ready and to stay ready. go to abc seven news.com slash. >> prepare norcal in the south bay. the wind is being blamed for spreading embers from a house fire. a block away. three homes ended up burning before the flames were put out. this all started around 4:00 yesterday afternoon on sand point drive near quimby road. embers then blew onto the house next door, and as crews were fighting the fire, the embers blew down the street, catching a third home on fire. one of the homeowners whose house was burned shares what she noticed as the fire started. >> i was inside my house and i could hear crackling and glass breaking, and as i was looking around, i could see that my bedroom window on the farthest side, the window broke and there was fire in the side yard between our two houses. >> luckily, everyone was able to get out of their home safely.

the cause of the original fire is still under investigation. >> we could learn more today about the charges. a person will face after a hit and run crash at the walnut creek farmers market. two people are in critical condition this morning after that crash that happened yesterday morning. so it happened sometime after five in the morning while people were setting up their booths on locust street, one vendor told abc seven news that the victims were vendors. he says the area is dangerous. in the morning, they put the signs up, they put the blockage up to block the road. >> but people ignore that. they don't seem to. i mean, they'll drive up on the sidewalk to go buy, he adds. >> people police usually come during the market, but he'd like to see them there earlier while people are setting up. the driver took off after the crash but was later arrested. that person has not been identified today. >> hunter biden goes on trial on three felony gun charges. this is the first time in us history that the child of a current

president will stand trial. he's accused of lying about his drug use in october of 2018, on a form to buy a gun in delaware. he has acknowledged going through addiction during that time. his lawyers say he did not break the law, calling the case politically motivated. if he's found guilty, biden could face up to 25 years in prison. legal experts suggest that as a first time and nonviolent offender, he would not likely serve time. former president trump is lashing out against his felony conviction in new york, a man he's now asking the supreme court to intervene. >> reggie on social media last night, the former president railed against last week's conviction, saying he is innocent and calling on the supreme court to, quote, decide side. >> he's scheduled to be sentenced on july 11th, four days before the republican national convention. we asked about the possibility of jail time or house arrest. trump had this to say. >> that could happen. i don't know that the public would stand it. you know, i don't i'm not sure the public would stand for it. >> a jury found trump guilty of

34 counts of falsifying business records. experts say it's unlikely trump will get prison time. his legal team is expected to appeal. >> i think when you look at the jury instructions here, judge mershon essentially, i wouldn't say rigged the deliberations, but certainly steered the jury towards the verdict that he clearly wanted. >> the appeals process could push sentencing back months even beyond the november election. trump has accused president biden of using the justice department as a weapon against him. now let's go to drew for a look at what. >> hey there. good morning amanda. we'll take a look outside the exploratorium camera showing you salesforce lit up for pride month as you take a look at the cloud cover. it's a mix of stars and clouds out there. temperatures right now we're in the 50s, but a lot of us are in the 60s, so it feels mild out there. this morning. but it's going to be a day that's filled with clouds and temperatures at or below average. here's the reason why live doppler seven along with satellite. we actually have a cold front across northern california. rain is falling around eureka this morning. we're not going to get rain, but

we will get the cooler temperatures this afternoon. here's future weather showing you by 830. we're still basically in the 50s and 60s. there's no extreme heat today. today feels pretty comfortable out there. you may notice a little bit of an increase in humidity as some of this moisture in the form of cloud cover moves through here, and the afternoon will be a partly sunny sky and temperatures mainly in the 60s and 70s for daytime highs, it's a little breezy today. we'll find winds by 4 p.m, gusting onshore about 20 to 30mph, so it will be another breezy afternoon on the way. not as windy as yesterday was. yesterday was very windy in the afternoon so highs today. we'll go to 65 in the city, 70 in oakland, about 76 in san jose, 80 in santa rosa, 79 in concord under a blend again of sun and clouds and some breezy conditions. today is certainly the coolest day we have this week. temperatures are really going to take off starting tomorrow. in fact, you look at the heat advisory and excessive heat warning that begins tomorrow morning and encompasses most of the north bay, the inland east bay, the santa clara

a shipment of six potentially deadly toads from coming here to the bay area. so these are called granular toads, and they're usually in the amazon. officials say they were being illegally shipped and if they got loose, they could pose a threat to bay area wildlife and ecology. so now the toads are at the oakland zoo's vet hospital, and the zoo is working with the wildlife confiscation network to find them a new home. work to develop a bird flu vaccine for humans is intensifying. federal health officials say they are moving forward with plans to stockpile nearly 5 million doses of a bird flu vaccine, just in case. the moderna and pfizer,

moderna and pfizer confirm that they are working with the u.s. government on developing an mrna. bird flu vaccine. some versions are undergoing clinical trials right now. the risk to humans remains low if no evidence that the virus is spreading from person to person. a third u.s. dairy worker tested positive for the virus. this week after exposure to infected cows. the man who became the face of the covid pandemic response back in the spotlight, doctor anthony fauci is going to be on capitol hill facing some tough questions and amanda has more on what's expected to be a fiery hearing led by house republicans. amanda? >> yeah, kumasi this morning, doctor anthony fauci is set to publicly testify on capitol hill for the first time in two years. the hearing is about the government's handling of the pandemic ahead of the hearing, a subcommittee released a transcript of closed door interviews with fauci in january. that's when he was questioned about whether he knew former colleagues allegedly skirted public records laws. doctor fauci also acknowledged

in the interviews, as he had before publicly, the wuhan lab leak hypothesis about the origin of covid 19 is one of two likely possibilities. now, he continued to insist no federal funds were used for research to manipulate the coronavirus to be more transmissible at the facility. doctor fauci is expected to face questions about social distancing, masking and remote schooling, and if guidance on those issues was based on science. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. bart will be running on schedule for the morning's commute. service was suspended over the weekend for construction work between san francisco's 24th street mission station and daly city, the glen park and balboa station's balboa park stations are back open. we are expecting green line service to be open from daly city out to berryessa san jose. people in philadelphia kicking off pride month by establishing a brand new guinness world record

category. so 263 people attended a drag queen story time reading. organizers say this was a first ever record for an event like this. drag performers read to an audience of adults and children, and books like twas the night before, pride and kevin the unicorn is not all rainbows. we're still waiting to hear if that guinness world record was approved here in the bay area. >> pride month is in full swing today. an event to kick off the festivities in san francisco city leaders and community members will be at city hall this morning for the annual pride flag raising. this has been a tradition at city hall since 1988, and that is going to start at 1130 in the north bay. sonoma county kicked off the month with its biggest pride parade ever. thousands of people came together over the weekend to celebrate equality, love and inclusion. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard takes us to the party. >> the sun was shining in santa

will be out there and i can't wait. they have great weather in sonoma. they did county for this. they sure did. and i know that we'll have the same. >> i know we're all sitting here and none of us is moving. yeah, yeah. sorry, i heard that. >> i heard that it's beautiful weather. okay, we have to gear up. it's the first heat wave of the year. we're talking the first heat advisories, the first excessive heat warnings. enjoy today, because today is going to be the coolest day of the week. tomorrow these temperatures are really going to take off. so today we actually have a cold front that is moving through northern california. it will bring about cloudy skies today. cooler temperatures and then tomorrow behind that cold front, high pressure quickly builds. in here. our heat wave arrives. heat advisories kick in here starting tomorrow morning, lasting through thursday. and then by the weekend we get rid of a lot of that heat will keep the sun shining. temperatures are really back to average, so today it's a pretty cloudy one. even inland. it's breezy. later this afternoon, temperatures in

the upper 70s. a lot of clouds around the bay shoreline will basically stay in the 60s all day today. and then along the coast, we are totally clouded up and we'll find temperatures in the upper 50s. so we're below average for this time of the year. 65 in the city, 70 in oakland today, about 76 in san jose, cool along the coast, half moon bay, 59. but santa rosa will manage to get up to 80 degrees. there 79 in concord, 80 the high in antioch overnight. tonight, we're going to clear out those skies as high pressure moves in. we'll find temperatures starting out in the 50s first thing tomorrow morning. and then those temperatures get hot pretty fast . in fact, much of california will go under heat advisories, excessive heat warnings tomorrow as this wave moves in here, some hot temperatures, the central valley, we're going to find numerous cities above 100 degrees, even parts of our area will likely see triple digit heat. so you look at the heat risk on tuesday. it's low to moderate along the coast. but then as you move inland, you see these bright reds, even in the valleys of parts of sonoma and napa county, that is a major

heat risk, meaning it's the first of the season. our bodies aren't quite used to this heat yet, so that means the first heat wave of the year is always tough on our body. so take it easy because future tracker temperatures. i mean, look at these numbers tomorrow afternoon we're watching those areas inland like antioch, concord, fairfield, calistoga, hitting 100 degrees. i mean, in oakland you're in the mid and upper 80s for daytime highs. i think the city goes into the upper 70s close to 80 degrees, low 90s for san jose, close to 100in santa rosa. so it is going to get hot here very quickly tuesday afternoon. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. cloudy and cool today. but then we have that heat alert starting tomorrow. excessive heat continues on wednesday. it's still warm on thursday, but the heat begins to ease before we head into a very nice weekend saturday and sunday, guys. >> thank you drew. coming up, the seven things to know this morning. >> another launch aborted when boeing's starliner is now scheduled to take off, and the importan

now carry some crucial cargo a toilet pump essential to keeping the water clean. we recycle our water up to 97, so each, you know, each each liter we bring up, we use it and yet we still get 97% of it back. mike fincke helped design the space station's plumbing. he says it costs about $5,000 to bring a liter of water up to space. so without the ability to turn wastewater into drinking water, nasa's utility bill would be out of this world. >> any of you who have ever out there that have a swimming pool or even a car, you know you need to have a pump to circulate the fluids. and this pump did, and it broke early. and thank goodness that starliner was available. >> the pump is so important. the astronauts are leaving some luggage behind to make room. this isn't the first time the pump has broken, but fincke says the booming business of private space travel is making it easier to send up a replacement. >> we have a robust economy. we're sending rockets up to space station quite a bit, so this was the next available opportunity. >> until the new pump arrives, astronauts on the space station

are being forced to store waste water, a tough task in such tight quarters. andrew dymburt abc news new york. >> save mart has agreed to pay $1.6 million for selling expired products. the company operates nearly 200 grocery stores across california, including the lucky and food max brands here in the bay area. it had been accused by the district attorneys in six counties of selling over the counter medication, infant formula and baby formula past the use by date. save mart didn't admit or deny these accusations in the settlement, but did agree to that payment. a winning build from an 11 year old lego master on the peninsula, james in hillsboro, beat out nine other finalists in legos, bay area mini master model builder 2024 competition. his winning concept a lego dragon in math class. the competition was held yesterday at the legoland discovery center in milpitas, so now james advances to the national

morning. bring some light rain there for us. it's just a pretty cloudy day and temperatures at or slightly below average numbers. right now we're in the 50s and mid 60s. it feels a touch humid out there as this front begins to move through here. so looking at the coast today, it's pretty cloudy all day long. temperatures staying in the mid and upper 50s as you move towards the bay shoreline. we'll see some peaks and peaks of sunshine throughout the day. it's not totally bright temperatures in the mid 70s and then inland. it's not too much warmer than that. it feels pretty comfortable when it comes to our daytime highs, but again, it's partly sunny and temperatures topping out in the upper 70. then things change in a big way tomorrow. our first heat advisory of the year in excessive heat warnings will kick in. we're getting ready for triple digit heat in some areas. we'll take a closer look at those daytime highs coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with amanda and see that drive times going. >> hi drew. here at 532 we're taking a live look at the eastshore freeway. the headlights, of course, heading west on i 80. you can see from highway four into the city. it will take you about 41 minutes.

the southern border. the plan would reduce the number of migrants allowed to seek asylum in the u.s. white house officials have reached out to mayors who represent cities along the border to potentially join the president, according to cnn. the plan is designed to dull republican attacks on border security. this announcement is coming three weeks before the first presidential debate, which is set for june 27th. for the first time, mexico has elected a woman to be president of the country. mexico's election institute says. claudia sheinbaum has been elected president, and she once worked at lawrence berkeley national lab. this is the largest election in the country's history. mexican citizens were able to cast their ballot in the u.s. in person for the first time at 23 mexican consulate sites. now, we've learned many here at the consulate in san francisco were turned away because locations closed at 5 p.m. our time yesterday, the national institute of elections says they were allotted 1500 ballots, but

headlines. we actually have a cold front that is creating all this cloud cover you see from our south beach camera. it's a cooler day but then everything changes. tomorrow that sunshine is back in a big way. we heat up very rapidly. our first heat advisories of the year and excessive heat warnings begin tomorrow and then the weekend. temperatures are back to average with full sunshine, so the weekend is looking fantastic. let's talk about today though. inland it's going to be a pretty cloudy day. it's also breezy. those winds start to pick up later on this afternoon. we'll stay in the 70s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline. i wouldn't expect a lot of sunshine today. it's pretty cloudy, a touch humid as well with temperatures in the 60s and certainly along the coast. it's just an overcast day and we'll keep those highs in the upper 50s. so looking at highs across the region today under mostly cloudy skies, we'll go to 70 in oakland, 72 in fremont, san mateo palo alto only 65 in the city 76 in san jose, about 77 in napa, 50s for half moon bay. then overnight tonight, we will rid our sky of any cloud cover. we turn clear and those lows dip

into the 50s and then we get hot tomorrow afternoon. in fact, it's not only here locally in the bay, it's across a huge portion of california that we experience our first heat wave of the season, numerous heat advisories and excessive heat warnings kick in here tomorrow. the valleys are going to get hot. the central valley, the sacramento valley. we'll find temperatures well above 100 degrees even in the bay. our hottest cities inland will get to about 100 degrees. so we look at the heat risk for tuesday. it's moderate across a huge portion of the region. the first heat wave of the year is always toughest on our bodies because we're not used to this weather quite yet. we do find some areas in the valleys of sonoma, napa county, certainly solano county, parts of contra costa county where we do have a major heat risk, and those are the areas that will likely approach, if not exceed 100 degrees by tomorrow afternoon. so we take a look at future tracker temperatures on tuesday. it is dramatically warmer than today. you can see those numbers well above average. we're likely about 10 to 20 degrees above average records are possible as well. around the bay shoreline.
