>> the president also told our david muir he would accept the verdict in his son hunter's trial on felony gun charges, and he also ruled out a pardon. today, prosecutors say they will rest their case after calling two more witnesses. some of the most dramatic testimony so far came from hallie biden, the widow of hunter's brother beau and hunter's romantic partner at that time. she described being so worried after finding a gun in hunter's truck that she tossed it into the trash outside of a grocery store. defense attorneys say they are not sure yet if hunter biden will testify. >> now to the other major story we're following severe weather causing damage in central florida. one storm destroyed an awning at a gas station north of orlando. part of it landed on a car. none of the four people inside was hurt, but authorities say a tree fell on another car nearby, killing a 14 year old girl. the area saw a tornado warning and more than three inches of rain fell for firefighters were hurt while battling wildfires in california's napa valley. >> flames broke out as temperatures in the area rose

into the triple digits. statewide, more than 10,000 acres have burned. we will have more on that historic heat wave coming up in just a few moments. >> overseas, israel is defending an airstrike on a school in gaza, which left dozens of people dead, many of them women and children. the school became a shelter for displaced palestinians and israel, says a hiding spot for hamas. abc's perry russom has reaction from the white house this morning. perry. good morning. >> andrew. good morning to you. israeli military officials say they delayed the strike twice because of the number of civilians in the area, but they carried out the strike yesterday morning saying hamas fighters were operating from parts of the building. that building served as a united nations run school, sheltering displaced palestinians at least 40 people were killed, including at least three women and nine children, according to local health officials. experts tell abc news the weapon used in that strike appears to be us made. the state department says the u.s. is planning to wait and see what information israel releases. >> we've seen the claims that 14

children were killed in this strike, and certainly when you see if that is accurate, that 14 children were killed, those aren't terrorists. and so the government of israel has said that they are going to release more information about this strike, including the names of those who died in it. >> and the strike is putting more pressure on the white house to help free the hostages in gaza. president biden and 16 other world leaders signing a letter demanding hamas accept the current ceasefire proposal, writing, quote, there is no time to lose. and then last night, house speaker mike johnson revealed israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu will address congress on july 24th. andrew >> perry. thank you. >> texas authorities say they busted an ongoing human smuggling operation. the smugglers are accused of hiding 26 migrants in a compartment that was part of a flatbed trailer. the migrants say they were in the compartment for three hours in triple digit temperatures. 11 of them were hospitalized. seven suspects were arrested. >> now to the suspected gilgo

beach serial killer charged with the murders of two more women. this as officials released details of the horrifying notes allegedly found inside his home. here's abc's andrea fujii. >> this morning, the suspected gilgo beach serial killer is now charged in the deaths of two more women, bringing the total number of alleged victims to six. >> his intent was nothing short but to murder these victims. >> prosecutors say rex heerman killed jessica taylor in 2003 and sandra castillo in 1993, which is ten years earlier than any prior known killing. taylor's family was at yesterday's indictment. >> this year has been 21 years since she was taken from us. longer than the chance that she got to be alive. >> prosecutors say dna left on both victims matched humans. they also revealed evidence found at humans long island home gathered for more than 350 electronic devices, including computers, cameras, hard drives, cell phones and routers. a newly

unsealed court document contains what investigators called a planning document utilized by heerman to methodically blueprint and plan out his kills . they say it had a list of how to commit murders, dispose of bodies, and how not to get caught, including how to package a body for transport. avoid leaving traces of dna and notes for steps to take next time, like use pushpins to hang drop cloths from ceiling and use heavy rope for neck light. rope broke under stress of being tightened. prosecutors say the document led investigators back to sherman's home to conduct a second search in may, and found evidence of what was in the documents, like pushpins in the ceiling, and they revealed the way the women were killed was the same method detailed in the documents. >> if he made mistakes, this is where he made his mistake. he hung on to these devices and of course, this thing. today, the planning blueprint, the microsoft document that goes through the entire methodology of killing someone.

>> heerman was already facing charges for the killings of four other women megan waterman, melissa bartholomae, amber costello and maureen brainard barnes found near gilgo beach in 2010. human now 60, has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges . prosecutors say they believe the killings likely happened inside his home and in the summertime, when his wife and family were out of town. >> you see this collection of all this evidence piled together, and the defense will call it circumstantial. what was so much evidence? it really is compelling. what's the most compelling thing now is he went back to 1993. so that increased the timeline. >> the d.a. says human is now the leading suspect in the death of a seventh victim, valerie mack, whose remains were found near jessica taylor's prosecute. say they'll be going through decades of cold cases in suffolk county to see what else human might be connected to. andrew. rhiannon. >> all right, andrea, thank you.

seen responding to a kroger outside cincinnati last week. >> an officer can be seen firing at 42 year old joseph van neiman, who points a gun towards officers. prosecutors say moments earlier, van neiman ignored officers orders to stop after they allegedly saw him take part in a drug deal, then walk across the kroger parking lot. van neiman taking cover in the store's entrance, repeatedly stepping out and engaging in a shootout with officers as customers duck for cover. authorities say an undercover officer then made his way into the store from a different entrance, forcing van neiman to run. that's when officers shot him. prosecutors calling it justified, adding the officers involved will not face charges. >> everyone else's instinct is to run for their lives. these officers ran in the direction of danger to save others. >> one customer was injured, likely by bullet shrapnel. van neiman is recovering in the hospital. he faces 12 charges, including attempted murder. >> well, a big turnaround from the fda about e-cigs and vaping
